| Parent's Meeting Minutes - February 24, 2003 7:15 Call to Order & Welcome Frank Mc. said a prayer for Barbara Bremus and her family Chris, Frasier, and Preston. Barbara died on Sunday afternoon. Visitation is Friday at Colonial Funeral Home from 7-8pm. Funeral service will be Saturday 11 am at Smithfield Baptist Church with burial at St. Luke's. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. A motion & vote passed on contributing $100 to the memorial fund from Troop 7. Minutes from Feb 3, 2003 were approved. Treasurer's Report from Betty Jo. H. balance $4120.80; income $118.60 from hot chocolate after costs; $684.80 distributed for recharter fees.; Balance $3564.60. Nothing notable from Roundtable. Greenbar (Feb. 18)-patrol assignments will be sent out via email. John H. Has sent them to Liz M. To distribute. Report on past events 1. Hike on the Noland Trail-a nice 5 mile prehike for the merit badge. 2. Klondike Derby-biggest attendance ever, muddy 3. Boy Scout Sunday-well represented despite icy roads. The extra food was sent to Portsmouth Homeless Shelter. 4. Order of Arrow Ordeal-Tom L., Jeff M. Along with Justin T., Edd H., Nick L., Jamie L., & Tony A. Worked the kitchen and are now certified food handlers. Stephen B., Daniel C., Jamey M., David B., Jon K., Nick G., & Jordan Mc. endured their ordeal which was the "2nd to the worst" due to weather and came out with flying colors. They were presented with their OA name tags by Tom L. Marie J. Was recognized also for completing her Ordeal. Justin T. And Tom L. Were inducted into the Brotherhood for OA. Upcoming Events--- 1. Cub Scout Pack 7 Crossover Ceremony March 15. Four of the 7 scouts will be Crossing over to Troop 7. They are Sean C., Ben L., Brandon S., and Brian K. It is possible that Mike D. May also cross to Troop 7. This will be an informal event held at the Bill & Ann G.'s home (please contact me for last name and address to protect them). Bring a chair, there will be a fire. 2. March 15 Troop Activity at Nwport News Park- This will be an overnight campout. And work will start on the Hiking merit badge. Fishing will also occur. Ask Brian L. For details. 3. March 17 will be Troop Elections and Realignment of patrols. The Ghost patrol will be absorbed and the Flying Eagles will be disbursed. A Senior patrol will be established as well that night. Please attend if at all possible. 4. Peak Experiences Climbing Gym-March 29 in Midlothian, Va. Money needs to be Turned in to Marcia D. Within the next 2 weeks. Final details as to transportation TBA. $30 for lock-in, and $20 for the merit badge. 5. May 2-4 Scout Show at Nansemond Suffolk Academy. A BIG THANKS to Scout Show Tickets: Jennifer K. for heading up Scout Show ticket sales. BSA Summer Camp-June 6-12, 2003 at Camp Shenandoah, ~9 miles from Staunton, Va. Tom L.-overall coordinator-Tom states he hopes to be getting a hard copy of the packet this week. Which means hopefully we will know next week exact cost, and what merit badges will be offered. First payment of $50 due tonight (Feb. 24) to Liz M. Physicals-to Liz M. Merit Badges-Marcia D. Some will have prerequisites-be prepared. On the Horizon- Junior Leader Training will be offered again after troop elections. Encourage your socut if in a leadership position to take this training. State of the Troop-John H. Reported we have 28 members. Old Business-- Some scouts are still deliquent in their dues. New Business Prospective new Troop leaders will be trained in March. Barbara G. handed out applications to several parents to consider. Mar 7 during the day will be new leader essentials, Mar 8 during the day will be leader specific training, and Mar 21-23 will be outdoor leader training. Next parents Meeting is March 24. |
