Parent's Meeting Minutes
Jan 28, 2002


Marie J. welcomed everyone and Frank M. led a prayer.  We had 16 families represented, out of 35 boys.
Marie announced that this was her last parent�s meeting as she is stepping down as committee chair.  We welcome Barbara Groves as our new committee chair.

TREASURER�S REPORT by Betty Jo. Here are the highlights-
        11/26/01 Balance- $6531.94
               Tot. Cash received including popcorn, t-shirts, recharter, hot chocolate, cash box  $2191.36
        Tot cash outlayed-popcorn, trailer & hitch, cash box, new horizons,gas, pizza,rock gym-$6027.65
                (The trailer was $3250., & hitch was $145.64)
        Therefore ending balance for 12/31/01 was $2695.65.
        Tot. Cash received for Rock gym fees $380.
        Tot. Cash outlayed rock gym fees, & pizza $445.
        The ending balance as of 1/28/02 is $2515.30.

Marie also stated we received a $50 check from the Possum Hollow Ruitans for helping them clean up.  We will send a Thank you.

ROUNDTABLE REPORT-The meeting was short & sweet.  Mostly about Klondike Derby.  Planning for the 2003 occurred.

GREENBAR REPORT- We will have 2 teams in the Klondike Derby.  The boys focus will be on this.

REPORT ON PAST TRIPS/EVENTS-
1.      Fundraiser- Popcorn Show & Sell- went very well. Sold $425.  We receive a 35% commission.
2.      Hot Chocolate sale at the Christmas Parade-made about $135-140.  Not as much as last year, but this year was warmer.
3.      Troop 7 provided help for the color guard to Pack 7 in the Christmas Parade.
4.      Trip to New Horizons Home for Men-We went with Pack 7 to Christmas carol.  We provided a cold cut tray and hot chocolate, while the pack provided cookies and gifts.  Participation was low this year.
5.      The scout party was enjoyed by all.
6.      Rock Gym was cold, but the boys had an excellent time.  Next year if we want use of the rappelling tower, we must ask as they need another instructor.
7.      Fort Boykins was postponed due to the wetness of the grounds.
8.      Ski Trip was today Monday.

UPCOMING EVENTS/CALENDAR
1.      FEB. 9-Klondike Derby-8AM.  We will not camp.  When you arrive, you will be told the pick up time.  No class A, wear Class B.
2.      FEB. 10-Scout Sunday-Meet at 10:30 in the fellowship at Trinity.
3.      FEB. 11-Court of Honor
4.      FEB. 13-Roundtable
5.      FEB 19- Green Bar
6.      FEB 25- Parents Meeting

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS
        1. SUMMER CAMP-There will be a meeting-boy & parent-at Court of Honor Night to discuss our options.   Chickahominy is reserved for the week of July 4th, but also under discussion is Blue Ridge Scout Reservation.  It is up near Roanoke-4 � hour drive.  The web site for information is http://www.bsa-brmc.org/camp/campindex.htm
        2. Spaghetti Dinner- Olden Days (Memorial Day Weekend) has been reduced to 1 day only Saturday.  The question is do we get another place, maybe the Episcopal Church or do we coordinate with the pack.   (The pack has the Pancake Breakfast that morning.)  If we don�t do well, we need to consider doing something is September for the 250th birthday celebration.   Basically, we need ideas for fund raising.
        3.  From the scoutmaster, please everyone look at the merit badges and see if you can teach 1 or more of them through your knowledge from your job, hobby, or just interest.  There are helps at meritbadges.com.  Please let Brian know.
