The Taj Mahal |

The Taj Mahal was a palace built for love, and is truly as splendid and awsome in reality as you have always imagined from pictures. It was built as a tomb for Moslem Emperor Akhbar's third wife. It is made of local marble and completely inlaid with semi-precious stones. There's no paint anywhere. He had planned to build another for himself in black onyx, but was imprisoned by his son before he could complete it. From his cell he could look at it each day. |

Not many people seemed to know about this little alcove near the back wall where we took this picture. |

Mary and I in front of the Taj. It is very crowded here, but we did manage to get a picture on the famous bench where Lady Di had hers taken. |

This is the mosque to the left of the Tomb. Sunset was pretty amazing! |

Such a grand design. If you notice, the minarets are angled 5 degrees away from the building to protect it from damage in case of an earthquake. |
