This page includes various information pertaining to Marlon Riggs and “Tongues Untied.”  On this site you will find:  a synopsis of the film “Tongues Untied”, other film titles directed by Riggs, a list of the awards “Tongues Untied” won and a list of reviews about “Tongues Untied.”  In correlation to the class discussion, I found it interesting that “Tongues Untied” won first prize in the experimental category at the National Educational Film & Video Festival and won best video at the New York Documentary Film Festival, 1990.  This in itself answers several of the questions posed by Professor Carr in class—“Can documentaries experiment?” and “Do documentaries document?”  According to an elite voting poll for these particular film festivals, the answer to both questions must be a unanimous YES!
