Roast one pound of barely at 350 F for 10 min. Let cool and mill.
Mash for 60 min at 155 F. Strike water at 171F 10 qts.
Mash out for 10 min. 5.5 qts at 196 F
Sparge with 3.6 gallons water
Boil with 1 1/2 oz hops for 45 min add remaining for 15 min.
Not bad for my first attempt. It wasn't great as I like my beer darker, it came out almost like Bud. It did improve with some serious aging though.
OG 1.045 FG 1.006
Irish Red 22Dec08
10 lbs American 2 row
1/2 lbs Melanoidin Malt 27L
1/4 lbs roasted barley 500L
1/4 crystal malt
1 oz magnum 14.2%
1 pk Nottingham
First batch
Mash 60 min at 150F 13.5 qts
Sparge 3.6 gallons
Added all hops to boil for 60 min. I misread the thermometer and added some ice to cool down the mash. This resulted in more fermentable sugars and a higher ABV

Second Batch
Mash 60 min at 155F 13.5 qts
sparge 3.6 gallons
This one went more as intended. Both came out excellent, but I had to be more careful drinking the first batch. I made these a week apart to stockpile some beer since I would be short of time until May.
