SB ASSAILANT - MISSION 2.2 The Nascent
Post by Magellan Lin on 16 Apr, 2005, 8:21pm

The next mission probably won't start for the next few days poss even a week. I m wanting to wait for our new CMO - Stuart Mercy before starting. So to keep people ticking over this is a thread to illustrate how everyone is integrating back in to Assailant life.
- Andy: you ve been missing, your wife and children have been living with a mad man

- Me: I ve been working with an unknown and am continuing to have strange memories, perhaps something that peeps saw of the Alternate magellan can help him.

- Saarok: Your memory seems to have returned but is it all back, who took it and how do you feel about the Real Magellan after the alternate one shot you.

- Tedak: you got to see a different side to your wife. How does that make you feel?

As the Copenhagen limped into the main dock a small Cardassian Hideki ship entered one of the lower shuttlepads.
It passed through security and was granted landing iin the private bays. The rear ramp descended and a weary Magellan emerged. He was met by Zoilip. The bolian looked at little ruffled.
"Whats up" Magellan asked,
"Its the Copenhagen sir she just got back"
"Got back? She should have been back days ago. Why wasnt I told"
"Sorry Sir. I did put a call through to Command but they told me you were on an assignment and couldnt be reached."
"True" Magellan nodded, his mission with T Val, Jira and Steve had been top secret, and he had been out of radio contact since its start.
"So any idea what happened?"
"Not yet. The Copenhagens got a little damage and oddly Ambassador Saarok was one of the people to hail us."
"What about Drew?"
"F'Rras said he made the first hail announcing there return from the nebula"
"Did they say whats happened?"
"No. And thats the odd thing. When they went missing Tomlinson swept the nebula with the new fighter wing and turned up nothing, then today here they appear."
"Odd indeed. Okay let me freshen up and then have Admiral Drew meet me in my office as soon as possible for a debrief."
"Aye Sir" Zoilip nodded, "Oh and sir" he asked turning at the turbolift "How did your assignment go?"
"Oh dont ask" Magellan said rolling his eyes, "Nearly a complete wash out. Though it did give me chance to pilot T Val to the Jefferson and Jira and Steve to the Nevada."
Magellan watched the bolian depart and then went back aboard, fetching his kit bag, he exited and locked his shuttle. Time for a shower.

Tedak had been quiet ever since they came back to their own universe. He had been astounded to encounter an evil version of his bondmate, whom he knew as a (for a Vulcan) very gentle woman. This one went over dead bodies if she had to, to achieve her goal.

He had understood that indirectly, she had been responsible for the death of Magellan Lin, even though she had been devastated by it. He had witnessed her tempers, and even the threat of killing them to achieve her goal. She had even been prepared to kill her other lover.

Tedak compared the traits of this woman to his own wife. He could understand the feelings for Magellan, as his T'Val had confessed having such feelings as well, but he knew his wife did not possess such a temper. ~I will have to tell her about this~ he pondered, then realised that the woman had glanced at him with pure hatred in her eyes. ~the woman must have suffered from my version in her universe....and he must've gotten himself killed at that~

The Romulan ambassador looked up from his ponderings when the announcement was passed on that they were approaching Assaillant. He was looking forward to being with his bondmate again...though he was aware that she was away on a mission with the USS Jefferson. She had taken D'Beren with her, as he needed her care. ~good thing we both have firelizards~ he thought, and leaned back in his chair to enjoy the final stage of their flight to Assaillant.

When the Copenhagen was finally docked back at Assailant, Drew was one of the first ones to disembark; eager to get off the ship, and the memories it carried. Most of the young crew looked tired and shaken up, it had certainly proven to be a more eventful mission than any of them expected. Drew was also eager to finally see his family again, it had been months since he last seem them, but he was also worried, what had his counterpart done during the time he was captured?

However, before he could even get out of the airlock, a Lt. Commander Bolian came hurrying along.

“Admiral Drew! Admiral Drew!” the officer called, catching his breath as he approached, “Admiral Lin would like to see you straight away.”

“Hold your horses Commander,” Drew said, holding his hand up, “there are some things you need to know first.”

“Commander Zoilip,” Saarok said, approaching from behind “I believe it would be more prudent if Admiral Drew first returned to his quarters.”

Zoilip shook his head, “Admiral Lin was most clear, he wishes to meet with Admiral Drew now.”

Drew sighed in defeat, he knew it wouldn’t be good practice to revel the truth to Zoilip before informing Magellan, and indeed Starfleet Command, Admirals being kidnapped and replaced was a major security breach, one that Starfleet Security would be very quick to investigate.

“Very well Commander,” he said in a dull voice, “led the way.”

Minutes later, Drew was entering Magellan’s spacious office adjunct to Ops, Drew had of course worked with Magellan before, there pervious ships the Victory and the Fang had been assigned to the same squadron. Still it was un-nerving to know Magellan had been working with another him for so long.

“Ah Paul, welcome back,” Magellan said as Drew walked in, “please take a seat.”

“Thank you,” Drew answered, pulling out a leather chair and sitting down in it, and then looking up at Magellan seriously, he said, “We need to talk.”

“Indeed we do, what took you so long getting back?”

“The easiest way to explain it, is that the ship was tricked into travelling to the mirror universe,” Drew explained calmly.

“Tricked?” Magellan repeated, “by whom?”

“My counterpart,” Drew said very simply.

It was interesting to see the way the colour drained from Magellan’s face, it made his spots stand out even more.
“Explain,” Magellan simply said, pulling a cup of coffee closer to him.

“The Paul Drew you have been working with for the last six months was actually my mirror universe counterpart,” Drew explained, “He abducted me some months before, and took my place.”

Magellan was speechless; he kept opening and closing his mouth, clearly uncertain as to what to say.

“Believe me, it came as a shock to me as well,” Drew continued, “Especially when we encountered counterparts for a number of Assailants key personnel, yourself included.”

There was a silence as Magellan thought over the implications of this startlingly revelation.

Magellan was stunned,
"It wasnt, not... him. But he was so... Well I guess that solves our leak. But"
Paul smiled,
"Your barely making sentences, think what its been like for me."
"By the pools Paul" Magellan said in sudden concern, "Here sit down. Computer two Double Saurian Brandys."
The replicator whizzed into life and the drinks appeared,
"Get this down you."
Suddenly a thought crossed Magellans mind.
"Computer scramble all command codes. Issue new ones and begin a level 1 diagnostic of all systems and subsystems immediatly. Phew thats better"
Magellan picked up his drink and took a long long sip.
"And thats even better. I don't know where to start, what happened to you?"
"I m still a little fuzzy on that myself. I woke up with two people standing over me, Ambassadors Tedakand Saarok I believe"
"Ah yes good people both of them, despite Tedaks Romulan-ness"
"Then it was a confusing rush back to... the copenhagen.. and back here. Somewhere I ve not been for years."
"Oh my." Magellan paused suddenly his jaw dropping open, "Oh Paul"
"What is it? Whats wrong?"
"Its well, its Joanna and the kids. There here, theyre fine, but he... well he brought them"
Paul was already on his feet.
"Your quarters are on Deck 121 Section 41a."
"Thanks Magellan I talk to you later"
"Take all the time you need. You have a lot of explaining to do, and Good Luck"

Drew was up and out of the office before Magellan could even finish his sentence, he pushed past a group of officers who were working at the central station, and was in the turbolift seconds later, ignoring the cries of protest from the people he had pushed.

“Deck 121,” he instructed the computer urgently, the ride down seemed to take hours instead of minutes, and when the lift doors finally opened, Drew found he didn’t know which way to go.

“Computer, location of Section 41a, Admiral Drew’s quarters.”

“Please follow the arrows,” the calm voice of the computer replied, as yellow arrows appeared on the black display screens. Quickly Drew ran down the corridor, following the display signs, until finally he reached a silver door where the arrows ended. The manuscript on the side informed him that this was his quarters. He pressed his finger down on the sensor pad, and was surprised to see that his hands were shaking, just what had that monster done to his family? If any harm had come them, he would never be able to forgive himself, never.

The doors whisked open, and Drew was greeted with the most joyous sound he had ever head, his eldest teenage daughter arguing fiercely with her mother.

“I am eighteen years old, you can’t stop me going out!” Tammy yelled.

“Oh yes I can!” Joanna yelled back at her daughter, Tammy opened her mouth to say something back, but they were both interrupted by Max running across the room towards Drew, a grin on his shouting “Daddy!”

Drew swept his youngest child into his arms, and hugged him tightly, not wanting to let go, the young boy looked up and at him, and gave him a bemused look.

“Daddy, why are you crying?”

It was a few moments before Drew could answer, and when he did, it was only to ask them all to sit down. As Tammy and Tyler walked towards the seating area, Drew couldn’t help but hug his other two children, tears still running down his cheeks.

“Dad?” Tyler asked, clearly embarrassed.

“Paul, what’s wrong?” Joanna asked, fear in her voice.

And so with great difficulty, Drew explained to his family all that had happened, when he had finished, they were all in tears, expect for Tyler, who now stood up angrily.

“So because of you, we have been living with a mad man for months!”

“Tyler…” Drew began, reaching out for his son.

“How do I know your you?” Tyler yelled, pulling away from Drew, “Stay away from me!” and with that the teenage boy ran into the next room. Drew went to go after him, but Joanna put a hand on his arm to stop him.

“Give him time,” she said softly, tears were running down her cheeks as well, although Drew could detect the anger in her voice, although not as prominent as his son’s. Guilty flooded him, as he realised his wife, and his eldest son both couldn’t help but blame him for some of what had happened, because of his career, the entire family had been placed in danger. It was with deep hurt, fear, and regret that Drew wondered if his family would ever forgive him.

As Joanna left to check on Tyler, Drew was left alone with just Tammy and Max; Max ran over and gave Drew another hug.

“I am glad your home again Daddy,” he said softly, “I missed you.”

When they finally reached SB Assailant, and when the Copenhagen docked, Saarok accompanied Drew of the ship as Tedak seems to have slipped out somewhere before Saarok had a chance to say anything to him. When Drew and Saarok went through the hatch and boarded SB Assailant. Commander Zoillip came running down the corridor with an urgent message for Drew: He was to go to adm. Magellan’s office right away.

As Drew went with Zoillip Saarok was left alone in the corridor, with only his two firelizards for company. The time has come for me to meditate on all that has happened he thought as he proceeded to his personal quarters. As he arrived he entered the code and the door swooshed open. He went inside and right after he changed into his meditation clothes he dimmed the lights and began to meditate.

"There is no emotion, there is peace", he chanted

"There is no emotion, there is peace"; he resumed

And slowly but surely he distanced himself from the reality and rose above the storm cloud that represented his thought inside his mind. He needed to let everything slide back into place slowly. He slowly let his memory part by part to fall into place.

--Several hours later--

When the storm cloud dispersed slowly but surely, there were only emotions left in it. And they would need to be buried in the unconsciousness.

"There is no emotions, there is peace.", he resumed

Slowly but surely the cloud of emotions disappeared from his conciseness. There was finally peace. But there were still fragments of memory that were not available to him he did not remember how he arrived to SB Assailant nor what he did before he met Ambassador Tedak, and that was something that needed to be discovered.

The Drew family’s quarters were unusually quiet; all of its occupants bar one were tucked up in bed, safely asleep. Paul Drew sat in the main living area, the room was in darkness, with just the tiny twinkling stars casting light, it had been a few hours now since Drew’s return to his family, and things had gone even worse than he expected.

All those months he had spent locked up; his one source of hope was the thought of his family, but now back with them, he felt like a stranger, he needed someone to talk to, who would understand. And then it came to him, the one person who had always been there for him.

Taking care to not make too much noise, Drew pulled out the computer console, and keyed in a series of commands, seconds later, a familiar, and very welcoming face appeared on screen.

“Paul?” Captain Anna Shipley asked, “It’s a bit late for a chat isn’t it?”

“Sorry Number One,” Drew said in a hushed tone, “I haven’t disturbed you have I?”

“No more than you usually do,” his former First Officer said with a chuckle, then her features softened in concern “My god Paul, you look terrible, what’s happened?”

And so Drew told her, about how his counterpart had replaced him, and his family’s reactions.

“You have to give Tyler time,” Anna said softly, after Drew had finished, “he is going through a difficult time in his life, its easier for him to lash out than to try and deal with the problem.”

“I know,” Drew answered slowly, “its just I feel so guilty, if it wasn’t for my career, my family wouldn’t have been in such danger.”

“Correct me if I am wrong,” Anna said, “but you and Joanna got together while serving of a Starfleet ship, if not for your career you wouldn’t have your family.”

“That doesn’t make any of this right though Anna,” Drew said sadly.

“Maybe not,” Anna replied, “but you’re a good husband, and a good father, most of all you’re a good man, you’ll find a way to cope, after all, Captain Drew can do anything.”

“Captain Drew had a much easier life,” Drew laughed, for the first time in days, “what I wouldn’t give to deal with some Luxons round about now.”

Anna shuddered at the mention of the dark alien creatures, which had been a constant threat during the last years of the Fang, and who Drew remembered, had held her captive, forcing her to betray her family and friends, at once he felt stupid for even brining the subject up.

“Anna I am sorry,” he began, but Anna cut him off with a wave of his hand,

“Forget about it,” she said softly, “but just remember, I got through what they did to me, with help from you and the others, and now we can do the same for you.”

“I just don’t know how to make it better,” Drew said, his voice breaking slightly, “the things that man did, to me and my family.”

“You mustn’t blame yourself,” Anna said, her own eyes starting to water up as she saw her former Captain’s distress, “there was nothing you could have done.”

“The terrible thing though is he was me,” Drew continued, “and what if, in some part of myself, I am capable of being as evil, and filthy as he is?”

“Your not!” Anna exclaimed, “your nothing like him.”

“But, I must be, if not for a mix up of birth, I would have been him.”

“Do you remember how Jonny used to feel about Echo?” Anna said sternly, “he had to live each day not knowing what evil his twin brother was going to do next, wondering if somehow, he was responsible as well, you were the one who told him otherwise, made him see that he and Echo were completely different people, each responsible for their own actions.”

“Your not responsible for what your counterpart did Paul, and pretty soon your family will realise that, it’s just a shock to everyone, but everything will be ok, I promise.”

“Thank you Anna,” Drew finally answered, “I better get going, we both have to be on duty in the morning.”

“Give my regards to Jo and the kids,” Anna said, reaching her hand out to the front of the screen, “and say hey to Magellan for me.”

And then the screen went blank, leaving Drew alone again, or so he thought, he was surprised to feel an arm wrap round him, startled he looked up to see it was his wife.

“She’s right you know,” Joanna said quietly, “it’s not your fault, and your not to blame, and just you remember mister that I love you, and our kids love you, even if they wont admit it.”

Drew took hold of his wife’s hand, and for the first time felt like he was finally home, that his ordeal was over, and there in the arms of his beloved, he let all the pain out.

Magellan finished his drink and decided it best that he get on top of the situation. Drew would need sometime to adjust, hell he'd need sometime himself, how blind could he have been not to have noticed the man... his friend had been an imposter.

Checking his messages Magellan pushed that thought away and decided to go down to teh Copenhagen. He was met there by Jilll Tsomba,
"Jill, Whats up" he asked the nurse.
"I m here to collect a body."
Magellans face went ashen,
"Whose?"
"Commmander Abrens"
"Oh no"
Axen Abren had been Assailants Strategic Operations Officer a good man.
"How?"
"Lieutenant Toman said he was killed on landing or something"
"I see. Any other casulaties?"
"No sir"
Magellan sighed slightly. At least the condolence letter would only have to be written once. And once was far too high.
"Carry on Nurse. I ll contact his family"

Magellan started to return to Ops but then detoured to Saaroks quarters.
"Come" came the voice inside as he rang the door.
"Ah Admiral How can I help you?"
"I wanted to check up on you."
"I am well, though my leg does still twinge."
"Twinge?"
"Yes. Well you shot me."
"What?"
"You or rather the alternate you shot me"
"I see."
Saarok invited Magellan to sit and began to tell the Admiral all that had happend to him.
Magellan was particularly interested in what his alternate self was like.
"And you say he mentioned a previous host other than Toya."
"Yes, Loran a Security officer. And he seemed to suggest at least another"
"How odd" Magellan noted, "Although we all know the alt universe isnt quite like ours."
"That I can assure you is quite true."
"Well I best let you rest. I want to check on Tedak and see how he is before I get back to work."
"Goodbye Admiral"

As the shuttlecraft was preparing its final approach to arrive at the starbase main shuttlebay, Stuart looked out of the small porthole to witness a beautiful looking starship in dock. It was very sleek with four warp nacelles. Stuart did not know what class of ship it was, he was ignorant of such things…he was a doctor after all. He could make out the name…USS El Salvador-B. Stuart wondered the history behind the name.

The shuttle had finally landed and everyone was disembarking. Stuart grabbed his gear and headed directly to…
~Hell. Where am I going?~ Stuart looked about for some type of directory. He finally spotted it. Stuart remembered seeing the huge starbase from afar, yet looking at the directory confirmed its immensity.

He finally located the hospital; it was in the science level section of this base, several levels down from his current position. Stuart decided to get there first, in order to stow his gear and become a little familiar before reporting in to the station CO. Stuart followed the posted signs. A couple of turbolift later, he had finally arrived…his first official duty station.

Stuart was ready to dive into some of the personnel files of the VIP’s of this station, but he was going to have to report to his CO first. Admiral Lin, he remembered. The thought of having to trek all the way back to the command level did not encourage him at all. “I should have done that first after all.” Stuart chided with himself. He deserved a small break. Stuart ordered a cup of coffee, with cream and sugar, sat down behind his very first desk, and kicked up his feet while sipping away and reveling in what was to come.

The trip to the starbase had been tiring and the coffee was soothing and relaxing…

Stuart had just subbed in. He was one of the midfielders in this indoor soccer game. His team, the San Francisco Stars, was in a 2-2-2 formation with a goalie in the box. As the right midfielder passed the ball across to him, Stuart noticed that the opposing team left him with some running space. He had run past their midfielders and their two defenders were the only ones left to beat. It was Stuart’s luck that those defenders were busy trying to cover the San Fran strikers, in case Stuart was to pass to them.

Instead, he ran from left to right, right up the middle to where he just entered the goalie’s box. This was it…just the goalie and him. Out of his peripheral vision he could see the goalie getting himself set for a shot, so was Stuart. All Stuart could think was
~Don’t shoot at the goalie. Aim away from the goalie. One side or the other.~ The ball finally rolled into position, in front of Stuart just to the right of his left foot. His right foot was cocked and he had one last peripheral glance at the goal before he let loose.

The ball went sailing into the air directly into the upper left corner of the goal, just outside of the goalie’s reach. The crowd cheered and his teammates ran at Stuart with jubilation. It was the first goal of the match, and it gave proof that it was going to be a good game.

…A knock was at the door, startling Stuart awake from his comatose state. He nearly spilled the cup of coffee that he had been holding in his lap.

Stuart stood and quickly set the coffee down on the table. Straightening his jacket he rose and crossed to the doorway. He reached out and pressed the door release. It slid back with a faint hiss revealing an Admiral.
The man was in perhaps his thirties, moderate height and build. He had mousey hair and a twin lines of dark brown spots running from his temples down his neck and plunging beneath the high starfleet collar.
"Dr Mercy" the man stated.
"Yes Sir"
"Pleased to meet you" The man extended a hand, "I m Admiral Lin. I was in the area visiting an Ambassador and thought I d save you the trip to Ops. May I?"
"Oh Yes please come in."
Stuart stepped away from the door allowing the Admiral entry. The Admiral stood stiffly a moment surveying the boxes.
"I was nt aware you knew I was aboard."
"Hmm yes There was a time I d have said I knew everything that happens aboard" Magellan replied reflectively, then he lightened and continued "Besides F'Rras informed me of your shuttles arrival. Good trip?"
"Fair. Its not too far from Conqueror."
"No not at all. You were on the Hepta I believe."
"Yes Sir."
"You can drop the sir for now. Save it for the diplomats and for duty."
"Yes... I ll remember that"
"Magellan." Magellan proferred,
"Thankyou Magellan"
"Your Welcome. How was Commodore ONE?"
"Well He sends his regards."
"Did you get to meet Admiral McCormick?"
"Only at the graduation ceremony and around campus."
Magellan sat down moving a box to one side.
"Shes a good officer, I havent seen her in an age. Anways I best get down to business. Have you had chance to check the facilities?"
Stuart shook his head,
"Not fully. Theres a lot here."
"Thats an understatement." Magellan agreed, "This is a big assignment especially as its your first. Assailant is home to 100,000 sentients. We have a Starfleet Medical Sickbay" Magellan gestured to the rooms about him, "As well as a civilian hospital."
"I readthe specs on the flight over"
"Good, because theres a lot to sort. Up until now we ve not had a medical manager. Nurse Tsomba has handled starfleet matters and Healer T Val has handled the civilian side. Its sort of worked but I want it integrated. Starfleet and civilians working as one for the better health of the station. And that in a nutshell is your job. I want you to work up a new working practice and ensure we meet all the new regs. We also on top of our general flow of patients and visitors have extra responsibilities. We have a quarter of a million Debrune living in an ancient and substandard city on the planet below and daily more of them and the ship loads of Takaran refugees arrive. All will need screening etc etc"
Stuart stared at the Admiral in awe at what was expected of him.
"Think you can handle that" Magellan asked with a wry smile onhis face.

"Think you can handle that?" Magellan asked with a wry smile on his face.

Stuart’s eyes lit up and all he could say for the moment was “Wow!” :o He let the information sink in and processed it some more in his mind. ~100,000 on station, Starfleet and civilian. Another 250,000 on planet with more arriving daily, plus refugees.~

“Wow!” He had to let out once more. “I mean that is quite a task.”

“Yes it is. Of course you realize that you have a complete medical staff at your disposal. So you’re not alone in this.” Magellan added for some encouragement.

After some more thought. Stuart finally spoke up with courage. “You know sir, I mean Magellan, I was an EMT and paramedic unsure on how I was going to proceed in life. I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to follow in my parents’ footsteps until I transferred into the Starfleet Headquarters district, in San Francisco. Seeing the hustle and bustle around Starfleet and all of that inter-space commerce and the interspecies relationships, gave me the drive to challenge myself. That’s when I decided to join Starfleet to become a doctor.” Stuart paused for a moment to let that sink in, not just for Magellan, but also for himself.

“Yes! I accept the task. I accept the challenge.” Stuart raised his right hand to shake with Magellan. Magellan returned the gesture with a smile. “I’m glad to hear it.”

While they were still shaking hands, Stuart added “I understand that you have just returned from a mission. One of my first changes for the betterment of this facility, if not this quadrant, will be to require starbase personnel to report for a physical checkup after their return of a mission. Starting with you, I want you to report in to me at 0800 tomorrow.”

Magellan’s wry smile had disappeared, now Stuart had one. ;)

Shortly after Magellan departed from his quarters, his computer beeped informing him that he has a message waiting. After hearing the signal he slowly made way towards the desk on which the computer was sitting on. He sat down and activated the computer. It was a video message from his current chief of security Lt. York.

=/\=Hello sir, I hope you are recovering well from the mission you just returned from. Anyway on to the message now. On sd. 2391.0421.024738 Lt.jg Stuart Mercy arrived on the station, he is to take over as the Chief Medical Officer of the SB. He has only just graduate from the Academy, the USS Hepta, and his personnel record follows in the attached file. I have deployed your two standard guards, to take place in front of your quarters. They should be arriving shortly; they will follow you around as usual. Lt. York out. =/\=

After listening to the message left by lt. York, Saarok opened up the attached file and began reading, not that he knew why they were sending this to him, as he still did not remember what he was or what he did before he arrived to the base. But he was surprised that he possessed some skills an ambassador would never need.

After he finished reading through Stuart Mercy’s bio, he came to a conclusion, at least when he was concerned that it looked pretty normal and there was nothing odd inside of it. The allergies were interesting but nothing other then that.

After he finished reading through his bio he decided to give it a try once more to access his own bio to which the last time he tried, could not access.

=/\=Computer, access Ambassador rating 6 Saarok, personnel records=/\=

=/\=Access to part of the requested files is restricted to those above the rank of admiral or those with special permission, displaying unrestricted parts of the bio=/\=

And his bio was displayed. Well better than last time he thought as he started to read his own bio. After reading through the non restricted parts of his bio, he got some info on why he possessed some of the skills an ambassador doesn’t need.

=/\=Computer remove restrictions from parts of bio that are now restricted, authorization Saarok pi alpha 1-9-1 omega=/\=

=/\=Code accepted, restrictions removed=/\=

This is highly illogical he thought, before I departed on the Copenhagen I attempted to access these files and my codes were rejected but now as if someone has granted me higher clearance codes while I was away.

As he was about to start reading the previously restricted parts of the bio, a report from DCS arrived for him so he had to delay reading of his own bio for later and turn his attention to the report.

After getting some rest, but not much sleep, Drew stepped into the sonic shower, and let the power beams wash away the gathered dirt, if only it could remove more than that. Although Magellan had kindly given him clearance to take as much time off as he needed, Drew found that he didn’t want to spend all day sat in his quarters, he wanted to get out there and see just what his counterpart had been doing.

Pulling on his first fresh uniform in months, Drew zipped up his jacket, and looked at himself in the mirror, apart from his skinny appearance, there was no other signs of his ordeal, convinced he was ready. He headed for the door, and walked straight into a rather large Klingon.

“Darok!” Drew exclaimed, shocked to see his old friend, and personal assistant before him, “what are you doing here?”

“Delivering your morning schedule of course!” Darok growled, “do not think I will let you neglect your duties!”

Drew had to shake his head to stop himself laughing, trust Darok to be so abrupt.

“I was actually on my way to the office,” Drew explained, “I have no intention of neglecting anything.”

“Then you are abandoning your family?” Darok said, equally as aggressive as when he was demanding Drew return to work.

“I am sorry, you have lost me Darok,” Drew said, getting annoyed, just what did the old man expect from him?

“A piece of filth held your family hostage, and you are leaving so soon,” Darok objected, “it is a grave dishonour.”

“Let me make one thing very clear Darok,” Drew said, anger in his voice, “I have not forgotten what that piece of filth did, nor do I have any attention of dishonouring my family by hiding away like a cowardly targ, am I understood?”

To Drew’s shock, Darok’s response was to pull him into a bear hug, which considering the size of Darok, knocked Drew’s breath away.

“Your spirit has not been broken!” Darok exclaimed happily, “come let us celebrate, I have a barrel of blood wine…”

“Darok, work, remember?” Drew, pulling himself free of the hug.

Darok quickly recovered his composure, and thrust a PADD into Drew’s hands.

“With both Admiral Lin and yourself off the station, the paperwork has of course built up,” Darok explained quickly, “But we shall we through it.”

“Songs will be sung,” Drew, commented, as he looked at the workload laid out before him, one of his first appointments of the day was with a Captain Turner, of the Destiny, which was to be followed by a staff meeting with Magellan and the other senior staff, including there new doctor.

As Drew followed Darok out of the door, he wondered if perhaps taking a few days of leave would have been a good idea after all.

Lieutenant Commander Simon Tomlinson spun his fighter around, toying with the asteroid that ay just in front of him. Of course, the asteroid had nothing to say on the matter, did not even have the ability to attack him. However, something very small on it was of great use to the Starfleet officer. His uniform, ragged and dirty told a bit of his toils. On the asteroid was a small beacon that he had dropped onto it almost X weeks ago. The beacon was nothing other than a short trail of neutrinos. However, if he followed those the line that those neutrinos pointed, he would come to another beacon. And once he had followed them far enough, he would arrive back at Starbase Assailant.

He thought back to try and figure out what had gone wrong. The fighter that he was in had been engaged in standard flight operations practice. He had been rounding an asteroid, not much different to the one he was currently over, when a large ship had flown past. It had dropped out of warp for only a second, but when it re-engaged, it caught Tomlinson’s fighter in the warp bubble. As he had been dragged along, he had managed to drop these beacons, but they were far apart, and tracing them back had been difficult. Especially as he had spent a lot of the time hitching rides on ships with warp capability. However, this beacon was the second to last one, and he knew that he would not need to hitch anymore rides, but rather, would be back on Assailant in under a day.

--- 18 Hours Later ---

“This is Lieutenant Commander Tomlinson requesting permission to dock.”

He heard a burst of static, and then Commander F’rras came onto the line.

“Is that really you Simon?”

“No! It’s Mickey frelling Mouse. Who else flies this fighter, has this voice, and calls themselves by my name?”

The Regulan laughed. “Point taken. Permission granted, take bay 6, yours is taken at the moment.”

Bringing his fighter into the bay, Simon jumped out as soon as he was down. He was amazed at how happy he was to be back home again, although, at the same time, not amazed in the slightest.

When he arrived back in his quarters, and accessed his computer, he found 26 messages waiting for him. He instructed the computer to read them out as he showered.

“Message from Ayiana, message from Admiral Lin, message from Station Security, message from…”

“Read message from Station Security.” He ordered the computer.

“Message from Station Security. Received yesterday at 0900 hours. Notification of passcode change Contact Admiral Lin for further information.”

He nodded, wondering why there was a passcode change, the only normal reason for this was a serious security breach. He finished showering, and threw on a fresh uniform.

"Yes. Hmmm I d forgotten how... thorough you Starfleet Medical types can be. Can I suggest you acquiant yourself with your staff and facilities first"
"I don't need that to be able to do a work up." Stuart grinned, "In fact I have my kit here, I could do yo.."
"Oh no your okay, I m rather busy at the moment. I only popped into say hello and mention that we have a reception this evening. It ll give you chance to meet the rest of the senior staff and some of the Ambassadors. I must warn you though the Ambassadors here are... high maintenance. They pop up everywhere although I must confess they do come in handy. Trouble might follow them where ever they go but they certainly pull their weight when it comes to the crunch."
"I ll bear it in mind"
"Excellent. Oh Nurse Tsomba is down in the shuttlebay shes collecting Commander Abrens body. He was killed in a crash. Could you ensure the autopsy is sorted ASAP. I m going to conatct his family now I would think they'd want the body shipped back to Betazed."
"Will do. Oh and wheres the reception?"
"Ah yes. Its in the Fishtank."
"Fishtank?"
"Oh yeah the Starfleet Bar on the Ops level. It overlooks the Docking Bay. An engineers paradise. Right I must be back to the office."
"Thanks for coming down sir."
"Thats my job and its formal tonight so dust off your dress uniform."
With that Magellan left the doctor to his duties and returned to his office. He had a very difficult call to make to Abrens family.

Tedak felt rather lonely in his quarters, now that his bondmate was temporarily assigned to a ship. His sources had quickly informed him that the Jefferson had gone into the Romulan Empire, and Tedak hoped there wouldn't be any trouble. There was no way he could contact the Jefferson now, and he held very little influence in the empire so convincing key people to leave the Jefferson alone was out of the question too.

His two firelizards weren't talking to hers yet, in the sense that the little green didn't talk much to Tedak's fair. He sighed, as he skimmed through his messages. Access codes were being changed, something which Tedak thought was quite sensible. Then another message caught his attention: there was a new chief medical officer on the station.

"Oh no," Tedak muttered, guessing which way this was going to go, "you're not replacing my wife." Determined to tell this new doctor off, he left his quarters and went in search for the new doctor. He'd discuss the Romulan situation with Saarok over dinner later. He knocked on Mercy's door forcefully, choosing not to use the chime. However, he didn't call out, and waited for Mercy to open the door. Above him, his two firelizards picked up on his mood, their eyes whirling red in anger.

After Saarok was done with reading the most recent update from the diplomatic corps. he started to write his own report on the latest occurrences on Assailant and around it which he would then transmit to DCS and to the federation council. As excursions to the mirror universe, not to mention the situation of someone from the mirror universe taking place of someone from our own would make everyone on the council nervous.

He began writing the report:

-On sd. 4981664 the USS Copenhagen departed for...-

--Some time later--

-... he immediately issued a command to change all of the SB command codes.-

After the report was done he sent it to the interested parties and turned of his computer terminal. He checked the time and decided he would go and greet the new doctor who had only recently arrived on base, perhaps he would even let him take a look at his leg as it would be logical to have it sorted now that no pressing matters were hanging above his head, not to mention that he would avoid visiting the doctor later.

He got up from his seat and went out of his private quarters he looked at his pets and motioned for them to stay and rest they needed it and if he needed them they could easily be summoned later. As he went out of the door he was greeted by his guards and he informed them where they were going.

=/\=Computer is Dr. Stuart Mercy in sickbay=/\=

=/\=Negative Dr. Stuart Mercy is in his quarters=/\=

=/\=Is he alone there=/\=

=/\=Negative ambassador Tedak S...=/\=

And the computer voice stopped. And as that was said he changed the direction in which he was going and went towards the personal quarters of dr. Mercy.

Post by Paul Drew on 24 Apr, 2005, 6:27pm

Drew walked into his office to find Captain Turner already waiting for him; she was a middle aged human female, who had a very formidable looking face.

“Captain Turner,” Drew said, offering his hand to the Captain, “a pleasure.”

“Indeed,” Turner said simply, shaking Drew’s hand, her own hands were thin and cold, no effort was put into the handshake.

“So,” Drew said, taking a seat behind his desk, “what can I do for you?”

“I did submit a report to your office,” Turner said sternly, “I would have thought you had viewed it.”

Drew gave the Captain a small smile, “You will have to excuse me, I have been off station.”

“Yes, so I have heard,” Turner said, “frankly, I am unimpressed with how this Starbase is run, my ship has been awaiting for repairs for almost two weeks, neither yourself or Admiral Lin have been available to meet with.”

“Owing to uncontrollable, and unforeseen circumstances,” Drew answered her, “I will look into the Destiny’s status, and see what the delays are.”

“I want my ship ready to depart by the end of the day,” Turner said coldly, “We have waited long enough.”

“Remember who you are talking to Captain” Drew answered in an equally cold tone, “I have told you I will look into the matter, it is not your place to question how this station is run, if there is nothing else, you are dismissed.”

“I am dismissed?” Turner said in shock, her face turning red, “why I am outraged! Admiral Lin will hear of this!”

Before Drew could reply to her, the comm system kicked in.

“Tomlinson to Admiral Drew, we have a situation in one of the crew quarters,” a male voice Drew didn’t know said.

“Understand,” Drew answered, tapping his comm badge, “I am on my way, excuse me Captain.”

A few minutes later, Drew was approaching Dr. Mercy’s quarters, where he could hear loud angry voices; two Ambassadors seemed to be in a disagreement with the Doctor. A Security Officer with Lieutenant Commander pips was trying to diffuse the situation.

“Commander?” Drew asked approaching, he recognised the man from the crew manifest images. It was Security Chief Tomlinson, who right now looked very stressed.

Post by Q2 / Simon Tomlinson on 24 Apr, 2005, 7:42pm

Tomlinson was extremely pleased when Rear Admiral Drew arrived. For one thing, it meant that he wasn’t the ranking officer, and for another it meant there was someone who had enough ‘say’ to yell at ambassadors.

“I received a call from Dr Mercy a few minutes ago, complaining about Ambassador Tedak, and when I arrived I found Saarok here too.”

“So what’s actually going on?” The admiral asked.

Tomlinson paused. Admiral Drew seemed kind of different, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. But then, it was possibly just because Tomlinson had been absent for so long.

“As I understand it, Tedak feels that the assignment of Dr Mercy to the station has put his wife’s position in jeopardy. So, he came here to… actually, I’m not quite sure what he was trying to do, but all he did succeed in doing was starting an argument.”

“I see. And Ambassador Saarok?”

“Not a clue.”

“Right. Have you made any headway?”

“Oh yes. I managed to prevent the fire-lizards from doing too much damage to Mr Mercy.”

“And how did you achieve that exactly?”

Tomlinson pointed at the stunned fire-lizards on the floor. He knew that once the Ambassadors had stopped arguing, they would probably file some kind of complaint with Starfleet for the attack on the fire-lizards, but Simon had always placed life above a clean record. Which was probably one reason he didn’t have one. (A clean record that is, not a life.)

The Admiral had left, leaving Stuart relieved. He seemed a personable man. Stuart was going to enjoy working under his command. Nurse Jill Tsomba returned with the dead Commander’s body, Cmdr Abren.

Stuart and Nurse Tsomba exchanged greetings and a quick history of each other. She had explained how a T’Val, a Vulcan healer, had been running the medical section here. She seemed to have done a good job.

Cmdr Abren’s body was placed onto the autopsy biobed. Scans revealed his internal injuries were consistent with falling debris striking his body, with a final blow to his skull that took his life. A severe sub dermal contusion to the cranial region which caused the swelling of his brain. This became the official report of his cause of death. Nurse Tsomba finished preparing the body for shipment to his home world, Betazed. Stuart forwarded a final copy of the autopsy report to Adm Lin.

Back in his private quarters, Stuart was preparing his dress uniform for the gathering at the Fishtank, when he was startled by a loud forceful knock at his door. Stuart opened it only to be bombarded by a Romulan male…with two dragon-like creatures.

“I am Ambassador Tedak. Healer T’Val is my wife and I will not have you think for one minute that you will be replacing her position at this hospital.” Before Stuart had time to reply, another voice from behind spoke up. “That is enough Ambassador Tedak.” It was a Vulcan male, who also appeared to be an ambassador.

One of those mini dragons proceeded to accost Stuart while the two ambassadors proceeded to argue with each other over this situation. Stuart covered his head and reached his terminal. “Security to my quarters, and hurry. I’m being assaulted here by some alien thing.”

A security officer finally showed up. He used his phaser to stun the creature and its colleague as it too joined in the pecking and ripping of Stuart’s uniform. Then he did his utmost to keep the two ambassadors separated, while they were still arguing with each other. An admiral finally showed up and finally brought peace to the situation.

Tedak was surprised that his firelizards attacked the new doctor, he hadn't come to make an argument only to ensure his wife's position in the hospital. Yet still the brown and bronze attacked him, and even his attempt to call them back didn't work.

Unfortunately, when he tried to swat his pets away to save the poor human, he accidently hit the doctor himself. That was just the point where Saarok entered and he felt the Vulcan - who was much stronger - wrestle him away. Angered, the Romulan diplomat tried to shake his Vulcan friend off, but failed. Helplessly, he had to watch as Tomlinson stunned the two firelizards.

Tedak glared at the security chief, and then at the doctor, then his eyes rested on the latest newcomer Admiral Drew. "You've got it all wrong," he growled, "I didn't set them onto the doctor. I tried to call them off, but this once they didn't listen. The doctor can testify that I tried to swat them away from him." He doubted though that the doctor would indeed testify that.

Finally, he succeeded in shrugging Saarok off and he knelt beside his pets, who were slowly regaining consciousness. Carefully, he cradled them in his arms, still glaring at the station security chief. "If you damaged them...." he started, then turned to leave.

After the commotion settled down a bit. And Tedak checked his firelizards who at first sight appeared uninjured. Saarok finally got a chance to speak.

"Let us try to remain calm"; he said to everyone especially to the security officer who came down shooting like he is a character from the ancient west holodeck program

"I believe everyone just got a bit overly excited.", he resumed

"Dr. Mercy i hope you were not greatly injured by that accidental hit from Ambassador Tedak while he was attempting to call of his pets"; he said and before Stuart got a chance to answer he continued

"Mr. Tomlinson perhaps you should run a level 1 diagnostic on that phaser of yours it would appear to have a soft trigger, too soft when it comes to barging in, shooting and asking questions later when there is no one here that is carrying a weapon"; he paused for a moment before proceeding remembering his two guards who had drawn their phasers just in case, "that is there is no one carrying a weapon except official security personnel. But as the thing you did was as much as i would not like to agree with it, logical I do not blame you and I am sure that Ambassador Tedak, after he calms down will see that it was the only thing you could do"; he continued while motioning to his guards to lower their weapons

"But what is done is done there is no going back but i trust that it is in everyone’s best interest to forget this little incident, don't you think ambassador Tedak"; Saarok said motioning to his friend who was about to leave the good doctors quarters

"And Dr. Mercy I do not believe filling an official complaint when there are no serious injuries will be necessary", he looked at Dr. Mercy

Meanwhile Drew was waiting for Saarok to finish and to hear the responses of the other participants before adding anything as he was tired as it is and did not need any more stress especially not arguing with diplomats.

Ambassador Saarok was trying to diffuse the situation and wanted to ensure that Stuart would not file any complaints. Stuart took a moment to assess the situation. Ambassador Tedak did show up a little upset and it seemed that his creatures sensed that somehow. Stuart knew that one can’t always control one’s pets. The situation did just get out of control.

Stuart realized he was going to have to work with these people. He did not want to start things off on the wrong foot, yet these same people were going to have to work with him also. Stuart addressed them all. “Ambassador Saarok, Ambassador Tedak, and Admiral Drew, if I heard the names correctly, as I am sure that we will all one day look back at this incident and be able to laugh at it, I will only dismiss charges if you are willing to follow one of my new protocols.” They all gave Stuart a quizzical look and were eager to hear what he was talking about.

“I have perused your files and it comes to my attention that the very three of you have just returned from a mission of one type or another. One of the new Starbase Medical Procedures will be the requirement of all official personnel to undergo a physical within forty-eight hours of their return of a mission. This will ensure that your health has not been compromised, and that you will not compromise anyone else’s on this starbase.”

The two ambassadors and the admiral looked at each other with the expression of ‘what can we do?’ The security officer had a slight smirk on his face. Apparently he never saw them in such a compromising position before, especially by a junior officer.

Stuart did not wait for an answer; he just wanted to get this over with. “Good. I’m glad we are all in agreement. Ambassador Saarok, I will see you at 09:00, Ambassador Tedak, at 10:00, and you, Admiral, at 11:00. Now if you all don’t mind, I have to get ready for a reception that Admiral Lin has invited me to. I’m assuming you will be there, at which we can then become more acquainted.”

Stuart returned to his quarters, leaving the others standing outside in a bit of bewilderment of what had just happened. His door swished open once more, when Stuart came back out with one more thought. “One more thing, these creatures will never be allowed in my hospital. There is no telling what they might be carrying.” With that said, he disappeared once more into his quarters.

Tedak stared at the new CMO with openmouthed amazement, then laughed. "I think I might like you after all doctor," he said, but his mood quickly changed again when the new doctor forbade firelizards in sickbay.

"They are quite useful," he objected, "and they carry no diseases, you may check for yourself. T'Val had hers in the hospital at all times, after she Impressed - and hers is still very young - and nobody got ill from the creature. I assure you, they are very clean. They bathe daily, and are well looked-after."

There was no way to bar them anyway, but Tedak - nor Saarok - mentioned that to the doctor. Though the firelizards on the station - 6 in total - were well behaved, if the oowner was upset or ill, the creatures responded in kind and there was no telling them off in such a situation.

"Would you forbid an admiral to bring his pet?" Tedak querried, smiling mischievously, "you will find that Admiral Lin has a young bronze. You've met my two." He pointed to the brown and the bronze, we were now sitting on the table. "The gold and blue belong to Saarok. Usually they are quite friendly."

He laughed again, called his two and left the CMO's quarters.

After the doctor was done speaking Saarok thought of his request and found it quite logical none the less 24 hours was plenty of time in which after they return from an away mission, they'd have time to take care of any pressing business and then when that is completed they can visit the doctor.

And also the doctor most certainly possessed some diplomatic skills which could come useful at a later time.

As Stuart was about to enter his quarters Saarok called out to him,

"Doctor, a moment"

Hearing Saarok calling out to him Dr. Mercy stopped as he was about to close the door.

"Yes ambassador."; he said

"You never found out the reason I sought you out."; he started

Post by Magellan Lin on 26 Apr, 2005, 6:31pm

Magellan put down a dish of food for Dinas and then finished pulling on his dress uniform. It had seen more use in the past year than in his entire career in Starfleet. All part of the job nowadays he supposed.
He consoled himself that things seemed to be settling down a little.
The Deburne had resettled thier city and appeared quite happy, the tekarans where starting to filter into the station. The Terraforming project was coming on leaps and bounds, in fact Qualinost would have a breathable atmosphere within weeks. Even the persistent pirate problem seemed to have calmed down.

Magellan made his way up to the Fishtank, ensuring that he was the first there. These meet and greet functions were always better than the really formal affairs and helped integrate new staff. Magellan had actually learned to enjoy these affairs, if only because the Chef always managed to out do himself on teh nibbles.
He took himself, drink in hand to stand at the vast glass window over looking the Dock. A magnificent site. So engrossed in the view was he that he didnt hear someone walk up behind him. A gentle tap on his shoulder caused him to turn.
"Lenara!" he exclaimed,
An older tall well dressed trill stood before him a smile on her face.
"And hows my favourite Field Docent."
"Favourite hah. Is Gregor here somewhere and I cant see him" Magellan joked, and mocked looking around the room
Lenara raised an arm and touched his,
"Oh Gregor, I had nearly forgotten him... such a shame."
Magellan looked down,
"Of course I d forgotten... so many, so many gone"
"Its alright Magellan. I ve been on Trill since the disaster and still find it hard to accept what happened. You heard that they have just started allowing joining again."
"They have?"
"Oh trial basis only and under completely new guidelines. Pretty strict if you ask me. If I was still in the Symbiosis Commission I d be kicking up a fuss."
"All ways the hell raiser"
"Hardly." Lenara smiled,
"And how is Kahn" Magellan pointed to her abdomen,
Lenara grinned and tutted,
"You and Lin still don't get on."
"Its not that we dont get on... we just have an understanding."
"I may be able to help. In fact its why I m here."
"You can?" Magellan looked round in puzzlement.
"Yes but we'll talk later it looks as though your guests are arriving."

Stuart was trying to get ready for the reception, but now he had a ‘patient’. Well, that was what he was there for. Besides, Ambassador Saarok did seem like a personable man. “Aren’t you lucky that the doctor’s quarters are near the infirmary? If you would come this way, Ambassador?”

Stuart and Amb Saarok took their leave from the others and headed down the hall to where the infirmary was. The evening shift nurses were milling about and greeted the two newcomers with a surprised look. “Please, have a seat on this biobed.” Stuart instructed.

There was no need to activate the entire biobed for this knee injury. Stuart retrieved a medical tricorder and started a resonance tissue scan – a medical diagnostic to screen for infection. A nurse was standing by, ready to give assistance. “Ah, just as I thought. You have a mild phase pulse infection. You see here?” Stuart showed the ambassador the scan of his knee, and pointed out the infection.

“Can you heal it and alleviate me of the pain associated with it?” Ambassador Saarok questioned. Stuart reassured him. “Yes, of course. Nurse, get me a hypospray containing an equal mix of 5cc’s of trianolin and 5cc’s of asinolyathin, for a total of 10 cc’s” The nurse went to the cubicle where the medicines were stored while Stuart cleaned up the tricorder.

The nurse returned with the hypospray and handed it to Stuart. “Here you go, ambassador. This should take care of it. The relief of pain should be immediate, and the infection should be gone by tomorrow morning when I see you for your physical. I’ll check it again then.”

Somewhat later, Tedak arrived at the party all by himself. He had ordered his two almost permanent companions to stay at home for the moment, so not to frighten off any new guest. With T'Val serving on the Jefferson, and their son having gone with her, he felt really alone.

The Romulan ambassador didn't feel very comfortable at parties, not only because his better half wasn't with him, but also because mostly he got looked upon with disdain and hate. He preferred to avoid parties if he could, but as a diplomat that was hardly an option. At last, he spotted Saarok at the party, no longer walking as if he were in pain.

"How do you feel?" Tedak asked his best friend.

"Thank you doctor"; Saarok said

"I did not feel pain, but it did create a minor distraction, which at this time is not good. I should leave you now doctor, to get ready for the reception tonight. And if there is anything you might need, feel free to stop by my quarters or office and tell the guards I told you that you can come. Perhaps we will talk again later at the reception.", he said

With that being done Saarok departed from sickbay meeting his guards in front of the door. He exchanged a few brief words with the guard and then they left for Saaroks quarters where he had something to take care of.

--That night at the reception--

When Saarok arrived there were already several people in the Fishtank, but Dr. Mercy, Ambassador Tedak, Admiral Drew and chief of security Tomlinson have not arrived yet. He told his guard to mix with the crowd, using the human term which he always found illogical as a liquid is something you would mix not humanoids, but none the less.

As he greeted some of the people he met on the Starbase he noticed Admiral Magellan next to the window overlooking the docking bay. Magellan was speaking to someone Saarok did not recognize, either due to his loss of memory or because he never met the Trill woman (hope she is a woman :) ) before.

"Admiral Magellan", he said as he approached the admiral

<Tag Magellan>

--Sometime later--

After he exchanged a few words with the admiral he left the Trill alone to speak with his old friend Lenara. While he was walking around the party he spotted Tedak coming towards him.

"How do you feel friend", Tedak asked him

"I do not feel anything", he said

"Of course, but you know what I meant"; Tedak said

"Indeed, the knee is no longer a distraction thanks to Dr. Mercy.", Saarok said

"I certainly believe that you and Dr. Mercy will get off the right foot", Saarok began using another human term he picked up along the way, "and that there will not be another incident here tonight, you would not want to leave a bad impression on the good doctor, now would you?", Saarok asked

"Oh fine. That new doctor of yours has healed it adequately."
"Excellent." Magellan replied, "Allow me to introduce Dr Lenara Kahn. She was my Symbiosis Instructor."
"Please to meet you" Lenara extended a hand, "How did you injure your knee?"
"On our last mission we ended up in an alternate universe, I was actually shot by the alternate Magellan"
"Really!!"
"Yes. The Magellan there was quite different in key ways to ours in fact he refered to having a previous host named Loran, it was she who had taught him to shoot people as an interrogation tool."
For a split second a flash of emotion flickered over Lenaras face before being submerged.
"Yes most odd" Magellan added, "Luckily we'll never meet him, aparently he was killed in the durationof the mission"
"I see how awful, I ve read a lot about the alternate universe"
Magellan spotted two new arrivals,
"Ah heres Paul and Simon, I want you to meet them, excuse me Ambassador" Magellan asked
"Of course" Saarok nodded and moved off towards Tedak,
"Paul, Simon over here" Magellan waved,

“What may be a discomfort for you, would be considered pain to a human I’m sure.” Stuart commented when Saarok assured him that he had had no pain. He was a Vulcan, after all. Ambassador Saarok thanked the doctor and took his leave. They were sure to meet again at the reception.

Stuart returned to his quarters to get changed. He wasn’t sure how formal this was going to be. Did he wear his dress uniform or should he go in civilian attire? Then he realized two things. One, Admiral Lin did mention that the ‘Fishtank’ was a bar of sorts. Two, Stuart was sure that he had already met some of the most influential people within this last half-hour. He didn’t feel the need to have to impress anyone anymore. Stuart decided to get cleaned up and put on a clean duty uniform. It would suffice.

~ Ops level, ops level…Fishtank…there it is. ~ Stuart was looking once more at one of the directories located throughout the starbase. He had already made it to the ops level and was now able to follow the directions to the Fishtank. He entered and it was a sight to see. It was a huge bar and lounge with an incredible view of the interior dock. There was that intriguing looking ship again, with the four warp-nacelles. The El Salvador, if he remembered correctly. His gaze of the ship and interior dock was interrupted by someone who had approached Stuart from behind.

Tomlinson, who after his arrival at the Fishtank had been chatting with Admiral Drew, glanced over as he saw the new doctor enter. He was still in his duty uniform, the security chief noticed. He himself had had time to change out of his uniform, and was now decked out in a pair of jeans, and an understated shirt. He considered moving over to engage the doctor in conversation, but before he could do so, Admiral Lin called them over.

“Paul, Simon over here.” Simon shook his head slightly at the commonality of his call. You’d never guess that he was one of the highest ranking Starfleet admiral’s in the area. On this man’s say, whole fleets could be brought together, ship’s sent to their doom, captains removed from their ships.

“I’d like you to meet Dr Lenara Kahn, my symbiosis instructor. This is Rear Admiral Drew, my right hand man here, and Lieutenant Commander Tomlinson, the guy who tries to keep me from doing anything stupid.”

Drew stepped forwards, extending his hand. “Magellan talks about you… well, actually he’s only mentioned you a couple of times to be honest. It’s wonderful to meet you.” The doctor took the hand and shook it, slightly bemused.

As Drew moved away, Tomlinson offered his own hand. “I don’t know what the Admiral is talking about. Most of the stupid things he does are my idea.” Again, the trill wasn’t quite sure how to take the human response, and merely shook his hand, and then retreated back towards Admiral Lin.

As Simon was about to say something, a girl appeared in front of them. She had long, straight black hair, and was wearing an extremely low-cut white top, which contrasted her hair dramatically. Her eye lingered on Simon for a few seconds before moving over to Admiral Drew.

“You didn’t say you were coming here.”

“I did, you just weren’t around to hear me say it.” He replied, slightly chidingly. The young woman, who Tomlinson now recognised as Drew’s daughter turned to her friends, a small group of three other girls and a pair of boys, and hollered to them.

“Come on. We’ll find somewhere else to go. Too much brass around here.”

The group followed her, all of them giving the trio of Starfleet officers dirty looks. Drew sighed quietly in exasperation. Dr Kahn placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Don’t blame yourself too much. Teenagers are awkward. It’s not your fault.”

Jatira had heard that there was going to be a reception over at the Fishtank. She checked her schedule and saw that it was clear. I may as well go, she thought, hearing that a new medical officer had just arrived. I wonder who it is?

For the party she dressed simply, but still looked very nice. Her sister J'Leera had a maroon dress that she loved to borrow when they had still lived at home, but since J'Leera was often away on classified mission onboard the USS Tiger Shark, she did not hear from her very often and she certainly was unable to borrow the dress. So, finally she settled on a light green dress with a pink floral print.

When she reached the Fishtank, she noticed that many people had already arrived and were roaming around enjoying themselvs. She went over and picked up a drink for herself. A group of people were chatting and she went over to them.

Magellan chatted with Paul and Simon awhile, discussing the ups and downs of parenting, of whom only Lenara could really contribute, being the only one to have had children, several in several lifetimes.
Magellan noticed their newest Ambassador appear, he waved her over,
"Ah Jatira good you could make it. this is Lenara Kahn, Lenara this is Jatira, shes teh Fabrini Ambassador"
"Ah Fabrini, how fascinating. How is New Fabrini, I ve never been?"

"Speaking about you duties I have some news for you. Saarok has now recovered most of his memory and will be rturning to his duties, meaning I wont need you to act as the primary Federation Rep"
"Oh I see" Jatira nodded somewhat disappointed in losing the temporary promotion, "What will I be doing now?"
"Ah now there I have a major project for you. I need you to be the new liason between the Debrune, the Tekarans and US. Your first task will be to work with Dr Mercy to arrange medical checks with the Debrune living on Qualinost, Come I ll introduce you."
Magellan left Lenara with Simon and Paul and took Jatira over to Stuart,

F'Rras stood motionless in Ops watching the general bustle going on around him. It felt as if he'd been on duty for ages and could feel the fatigue beginning to over take him.
"Sir, long range sensors are picking up something odd"
F'rass sighed,
"Define odd"
"Its the nebula, part of its expanding at an exponential rate"
"Really! On screen."
The viewscreen was filled with the purple swirling gas of the Bertreka nebula. It was moving and pulsing. A violent electrical storm sparked within it as a thin finger roiled outwards, out towards the starbase.
"Will it reach here?"
"At this rate the storm will cover the station in 12 hours"
"Risk?"
"Minimal, but we'll have to lock the place down."
"Okay lets give it a few hours and if its still a problem we ll call Drew and Lin"
"Aye Sir"

After Saarok exchanged a few constructive words with his friend ambassador Tedak, he noticed that Jatira Laika, the Fabrini ambassador has arrived to the reception. Which was good as he did really need to exchange a few words with the ambassador, and give her to "good job", phrase as it was logical if one does a good job, that he is rewarded for it in some way and it will serve as a good encouragement for her.

"If you would excuse me for a moment, I see ambassador Laika over there, I will need to exchange a few words with her.", Saarok said as he left Tedak's side for a few moments

As he was walking to where Magellan, Stuart and Jatira were standing and talking.

"Ambassador Laika, Doctor, Admiral", he said as he approached the group

"Ambassador"; the three responded when they he was done talking

"Ambassador Laika", Saarok began

"I would like to extend my gratitude for your excellent management of the federation diplomatic interests on this station and in this area of space while I was incapacitated."; he said

"I am going to inform the federation diplomatic corps of how well you are performing and propose that you are assigned additional duties, which I am sure admiral Magellan has already seen to, but none the less", Saarok finished and was looking at the group while waiting for a response

Stuart extended his hand to greet her. They exchanged ‘Hellos’ and Stuart turned towards the Admiral. “Admiral, I don’t mean to bring up a somber moment, but I wanted you to know that I have forwarded the autopsy report you requested to your office.” “Ah yes. Thank you! He was a good officer. As you said, this is not the time for sadness.”

“I agree. You mentioned Debrunes living under substandard conditions and we have Tekaran refugees coming in droves on a daily basis. I can only imagine the medical conditions on the planet. I was wondering, sir, I’m sure these people have their own skilled physicians. I would like to go to the planet and meet with their leaders to set up some type of medical facilities. If we can supply them, then they can take care of their regular illnesses, while more serious conditions will have to be treated here on Assailant.” Stuart’s mind was going over the logistics of such an endeavor.

"Excellent, that should work well. Jak'dor, The Debrune leader can be a little... prickly but he has the best interests of his people at heart. I can arrange a meeting in the morning" Magellan replied

Stuart then continued. “Are there any religious aspects I need to know about that might affect our treating them? Of course, the politics I leave to you ambassadors.” Stuart listened intently as the Admiral explained Ambassador Laika’s role as it pertained to this question. Then Ambassador Laika voiced her thoughts about what she thought of all this.

As Jatira made her way over to the group, Admiral Magellan noticed her and waved. She smiled and walked over to where he was with a woman she did not know. As she neared, she realized that the woman was a Trill. She wondered if she was a friend of Admiral Magellan.

“We have many agricultural areas on the planet,” she said, “so most of surface is not developed, although there are a couple of large cities. Most of our people live in the rural areas though instead of the cities. Some say that is because people grew tired of living in a small spaceship,” she said, referring to the asteroid that had been used as a spaceship to reach their new home. “Are you familiar with our history?”

"Not really, I of course know the part concerning your encounter with Kirk, and a recall seeing some of the celebrations when you joined the Federation. but other than that not much. Do you manage to get home much, it must be hard being so far away, I rarely leave Trill if I can" Lenarae said

“I try to get back whenever my duties permit it …”

Magellan left Lenara with Simon and Paul and took Jatira over to Stuart,
"Dr Mercy, meet Ambassador Laika, Ambassador meet Dr Mercy"

“Pleased to meet you,” she shook his hand.

He returned it and turned to Admiral Magellan briefly. When he began speaking about the Debrune, she listened carefully knowing that she’d be involved in it. When he asked about religious aspects she spoke. “I am not aware of any,” she said. “However, I will check the database to be sure there are any small groups within their culture.” She turned to Admiral Magellan. “I believe that the doctor’s request is reasonable and I would like to ask permission to accompany him. If I am to become liaison officer, then it would be a good idea if I became familar with them.”

"Excellent idea, Jak'dor the debuni leader is aboard at the moment. I will set up a meeting for the both of you tomorrow all being well. The Tekarans on the station dont seem to have a representative at the moment, perhaps you could find someone to fill that role." Magellan agreed.

As he finished speaking, she noticed that Ambassador Saarok was making his way over. She turned around as he came up and greeted her.

"I was only doing my duties, Ambassador," she said. "And I would gladly do them again if it were necessary."

He gave a slight nod. Jatira had not known very many Vulcans, but she knew that she had made a very good impression on the Ambassador. She smiled, "You are correct, Admiral Magellin has seen to it. I have just been assigned as the station's liaison officer to the Debrune. I'll be working with the station's new medical officer and arrange some medical checks among the people."

"Ensign what is the Status of the cloud?"
The ensign checked the sensors oncemore,
"Its still coming, in fact its accelerated, the storm is now almost completely enveloping us. The electrical disturbances are playing havoc with some of our systems."
"Okay. Tamont suspend all departures till after the storm has passed. Put out a beacon saying that Assailant is closed until further notice."
"Aye Sir."
"Better get the brass up here. Ops to Admirals Lin and Drew, please report to Ops immediatly."
"Acknowledged" Magellan answered,
"Understood... on my way" Drew replied.
"Sir. The storm has... stopped, its no longer moving along its vector... it seems... I dunno snagged. Electrical disturbances are increasing, its starting to affect the station. Lights are out on decks 121-123, water processing on deck 45 is out and..."
"Okay ensign I get the picture. Shut down non essential systems. there must be a way to take the claws out of this storm. Perhaps we could de-polarise it. Take the charge from it. Suggestions"
Ensign Tamont frowned a moment, well we do have a broadband deflector to protect us from particulates their is anti polaron beam in the array, a 500 terravolt blast could disperse the cloud."
"Excellent discharge a 1000 terravolt beam and lets get back to business"

The nebula cloud crackled about Assailant like an anrgy octopus, tentacles of lightening leapt to its hull, coruscating it in an eirie blue white glow. The anti-polaron beam, a pale green by comparision, shot from the emitters however it didnt quite work as expected, the lightening did pause but built. It built and built until with a thunderclap a ball of vibrant purple energy was thrown from its centre. It flew towards Assailant passing through its hull and in to the centre of the command level. The purple energy halted in the middle of a corridor near the fishtank where it pulsed and glowed before flashing in brilliant white light.

Tedak was growing tired of the function in the Fishtank, it was little fun without T Val and he decided to return home and catch up on communiques from Romulus. He bid his farewells and left. As he walked down the corridor from the Fishtank he thought he heard a faint wail. He paused and listened again. Definitely a wail.
He followed the noise to a deserted corridor, the corridor looked odd, the paintwork almost bleached and there was the faint smell of ozone in the air, it was then he noticed a huddled form on the floor. The figure was naked and shook with sobs.
"hello?" Tedak asked tentativly, "Are you okay?"
Getting no reply, Tedak bent down and laid a hand on the persons shoulder, they flinched at first and then allowed themselves to be pulled up to a sitting posture. The person was female, young, perhaps in her early twenties. Her face had soft lines with a sort of commonality that Tedak remained him of almost every human face he'd seen that was save for the deep purple irises and matching hair.
"What happened to you then" Tedak asked the obviously terrified woman.
She just looked at him in terror, stricken mute.

Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on 30 Apr, 2005, 9:00pm

Tedak gazed at the young woman with fascination, then quickly looked away in embarassment as he realized she was completely naked. Quickly, he pulled off his ambassadorial robe, and placed it over the woman's shoulders. It meant for him being left in his underclothing, but at least the woman was now decently covered. "I won't hurt you," he told her, as he pulled her gently to her feet, "who are you, what happened?"

The woman stared at him, her purple eyes filled with fear and she remained silent.

Tedak pulled the woman against him in an attempt to comfort her. "Come, I shall take you to sickbay. Doctor Mercy will see if you got hurt." Gently, he lead the woman to sickbay, and handed her over to Stuart Mercy. The woman wailed again, and stretched out her arms toward him. "I will be right here ma'am," he said softly, "I will just leave you and the good doctor some privacy."

The Romulan diplomat nodded towards the human doctor, and stepped away a few paces, but so that the woman could still see him. "Tedak to Tomlinson and Lin. I've got a situation in sickbay. I've found a young woman in a corridor, and she's terrified. She looks humanoid but she's got the strangest hair and eye colour I've ever seen. Doctor Mercy is currently giving her a check up, but she will not let me leave her line of sight. Please advice."

Tomlinson sighed. He never got to enjoy anything as much as he deserved to. And he was meant to be off-duty. Only one of the ambassadors would contact him rather than just contact security. He sighed once more, more for effect than wanting to, as a young ensign was passing him, and he wanted some sympathy.

"Got a call out huh chief?"

"Yeah, don't I always. It's the way of life. Whenever Tomlinson starts having fun, something comes along to screw it up."

He tapped his commbadge. =/\= I'm on my way Ambassador. =/\=

He hit it again. =/\= Tomlinson to Dr Mercy. Make sure your patient doesn't go anywhere. I will need to assign a security team until we determine what she is doing here. =/\=

Of course, he could have simply told this to the ambassador, but he was sick of them thinking they were as good, or better than the starfleet officers.

"You still on duty Liz?" He said to the Ensign beside him.

"Sure chief." She replied, not quite sure why he would need her. She was a brig officer, he job was to stand watch on the few vagrants who got themselves locked up in there. She had nothing to do with the field work, as it were.

"Well we'll get you some active experience. It's not much, but if you want to progress in future years, you need to be more than a prison guard.

"Yes sir."

"Great, now come on, let's get over there."

"Ah indeed, but you will require all of your skills to convince Jak'Dor the Debrune elder that this is the logical way to proceed.", he said to her

While they were talking Saarok noticed with the corner of his eye that both Magellan and Paul Drew rushed out of the Fishtank after they finished a conversation with someone over the comm. line.

As he was listening in on the conversation between Jatira and dr. Mercy waiting for something interesting to come up for him to add a few words, the lights and the few consoles that were in the Fishtank, flickered. After this the attention of everyone including him was no longer on the conversations and small talk but on the lights and consoles which could be seen in the Fishtank.

His two security officers approached him immediately after the lights flickered and they went over to the window. When they looked out side they could see nothing but a purple cloud. This is peculiar Saarok thought as he raised an eyebrow. He decided he would pay a visit to the ops center as his ambassadorial privileges included free access to all parts of the SB.

He excused himself from Dr. Mercy and Jatira, and he and his two security officers proceeded out of the Fishtank and went in the direction of the ops center.

The lights began flickering and people were milling about with a hint of wonderment and fear. The two admirals had already left, as had Ambassador Tedak and now Ambassador Saarok. Knowing there might be an influx of minor injuries to the infirmary, Stuart needed to take his leave also.

“Ambassador Laika, I look forward to working together with you. You must excuse me. I believe I may be needed in the infirmary. If this station doesn’t fall apart, I will see you tomorrow for our meeting with the Debrune leader.” Stuart left quickly.

No sooner had Stuart arrived at the infirmary, Ambassador Tedak came in with a strikingly beautiful young female, who was just wearing his robe. “Is there a shortage of clothing on Romulus?” Stuart quipped as it became apparent that Romulans didn’t wear much under their robes. Ambassador Tedak first thought that he was referring to the young female until he realized the mentioning of Romulus. He wasn’t amused.

Stuart retrieved a medical tricorder and started his scans of this female. He wasn’t sure yet if she was human or not. She looked like one with purple hair, but he had never seen one with purple eyes.

=/\= Tomlinson to Dr Mercy. Make sure your patient doesn't go anywhere. I will need to assign a security team until we determine what she is doing here. =/\=

Stuart replied that he understood. Before he continued his scans he went over to a console, at the head of the biobed, and activated a security force field. It enveloped the two of them, and the ambassador as well. Security would have access to shut it down when they got there.

Continuing his scans, he could not discern anything unusual as far as her health was concerned. She seemed to have all of the right organs in all of the right places, for a human. Then he noticed it…it was her blood. It seemed to be charged, charged with energy…like electricity. He didn’t know what to make of it. He wanted a sample of her blood.

“If it’s okay, I would like to get a blood sample from you.” Stuart stated to her, but she didn’t respond. She was just sitting there with a worried look on her face. Ambassador Tedak was nearby and that seemed to comfort her a bit. Stuart proceeded to get a hyposyringe. He placed it on her arm, on the inside of her right elbow while looking straight into her mesmerizing eyes.

Just as Stuart was about to take a sample, he saw her eyes begin to change. They seemed to crackle with lightening before a charge jumped out of her eyes and straight into Stuart’s. Stuart was flung back at the security force field before falling to the floor. Ambassador Tedak came forward to hold the young woman and to keep her from doing any more harm.

Stuart slowly got up as he had the wind knocked out of him. He held his midriff with crossed arms, trying to catch his breath. “Okay. We won’t be drawing any blood from you.” That was all he could muster for the moment.

Re: MISSION 2.2 The Nascent
Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on 2 May, 2005, 9:44am

Tedak cast a worried look at the young physician. "Are you all right doctor?" he asked, as he held the young woman, who clung to him in fright. "She doesn't seem to want anyone to touch her, would you mind terribly if I tried?" he continued, as he held out his hand towards the syringe.

With practiced ease, he re-applied the tourniquet around her arm, yet when he produced the syringe, he too was flung away. "It seems you are correct doctor, we shall not be getting any bloodsamples from her at present."

The Romulan ambassador gazed from the doctor to the woman and back. "If it is possible, could sickbay attire be replicated for her, so that I may have my own clothing back?" he enquired, somewhat embarassed.

There was something about the woman that he couldn't quite put his finger on, apart from the fact that she didn't want him to leave and she was strikingly beautiful. When she clung to him, she gently disentangled himself from her hold on him. "You must know I am a married man," he said gently, "but if needed I will care for you as if you are a sister."

She still stared at him mutely, but cast angry glances towards the doctor. Tedak smiled and followed her gaze. "He is a doctor, his prods and pricks will never be to harm anyone, only to see if they are ill and if they can be made better." He held her tightly against him, as he straightened her right arm and beckoned Mercy.

"Look at me," he told the woman, gently moving her face towards his, as Mercy approached again. "Don't be afraid, keep looking at me." His eyes locked gaze with hers, and he held her gaze as he waited for Mercy to continue.

When Admiral Magellan had left, Jatira did not think much of it. Afterall, he was a busy man and probably had something to attend to. But when the lights started flickering, she knew that something was wrong.

She glance about the room looking for any problems. People around her seemed puzzled, but did not seem terribly concerned. When she turned back around, she noticed that Ambassador Saarok had walked over to the window and was now staring at the neary nebulae carefully, which seemed to be growing. She didn't know much about nebulaes unlike her sister who was chief science office on the Tiger Shark, so she could only speculate that the two incidents were related.

She nodded and watched as he hurried away. She hoped that he was wrong and that his services wouldn't be recquired. The station seemed to be in enough turmoil at the moment.

"Ambassador Laika," she heard her aide's voice coming over communicator.

"Yes, what is it?"

"We are having power flucuations on the station, we need you to return for your safety," Sala said.

"Understood," she nodded. "I be there in a few minutes."

"Do you recquire additional security, Ambassador?"

"No, I have one officer," she said and began to head back to the offices. "It'll be enough."

Cmndr Tomlinson showed up with another security officer. They had their hands ready on their holstered weapons as the commander punched in the security code to release the force field.

"I assure you that you won't need your weapons as long as you keep your distance." Stuart admonished.

Ambassador Tedak agreed. "Yes. She does not mean any harm. I can sense it."

Stuart went over to one of the garment replicators and produced a hospital robe for the young woman to put on. Stuart pulled a curtain so that she would could dress in privacy. The ambassador retrieved his own robe and looked regal once more. Just in time as Admiral Lin had made his presence known.

Drew and Magellan quickly hurried to the nearest turbo lift, after getting the call from Ops, F’Rras had sounded worried, which was unusual enough to make both the Admiral’s worried as well.

“Any idea’s what could be wrong?” Drew asked Magellan, as they both stepped into the turbo lift.

“Not a clue,” Magellan answered, as the doors closed and the lift made its way up to the Ops level, “I just hope it’s easily fixed, whatever it is.”

Suddenly the lift came to a halt, causing both Admirals to briefly lose there balance, the lights flicked for a few seconds, and then came back on.

“You ok?” Drew asked, as he helped Magellan get back onto his feet.

“Fine,” Magellan replied, “but I have a bad feeling about all of this.”

“You and me both,” Drew told him, as he pulled off a wall panel to revel a control board, a few minutes later the turbo lift resumed its trip to Ops.

“Report,” Drew and Magellan said together, as both stepped out onto Ops.

F’Rras looked up at them in greeting, as the duo walked down to the central command and control console, the man looked slightly stressed Drew noticed, almost as if he didn’t like being left in charge.

“As odd as this is going to sound,” F’Rras began, “we are trapped in a Nebula.”

“How is that possible?” Magellan asked, as Drew confirmed the story with a brief look at the console readouts.

“For reasons yet unknown, the Nebula began to expand,” F’Rras explained, “and it has encompassed the entire station.”

“I presume we are on lock down?” Drew asked.

“Affirmative,” F’Rras answered, “We have just released a terravolt blast, that seems to be clearing the cloud away.”

It was then that the message came from Security, requesting Magellan’s presence in sickbay, as the Admiral headed towards the turbo lift, Ambassador Saarok walked out of the lift, and onto Ops, flanked by his two security officers.

“Begin an detailed sensor sweep of the nebula,” Drew ordered, as Magellan left, “We will stay on lockdown until we have determined the cause of the Nebula’s expansion.”

“Admiral,” Saarok greeted Drew as he walked up next to him, “Is there a problem? It appears the station is experiencing a power drain of some kind?”

“We were briefly trapped in the nebula,” Drew told him calmly, “We have since broken free, we have yet to determine if there was any lasting damage to the station however.”

“And the cause of the Nebula’s expansion?”

“We are investigating that as we speak,” Drew said, “hopefully a simple scan will tell us everything we need.”

“Perhaps we should send the Copenhagen out to investigate,” Saarok suggested, “It is after all a science vessel.”

“The Copenhagen is still in dry dock, she wont be going anywhere soon,” Drew answered, “we will have to make do with the station’s own science equipment for now.”

“Admiral!” Ensign Carter called out from communications, “we are getting a distress call from Qualinost, the proximity of the Nebula has caused a huge amount of radiation to enter the atmosphere.”

“Emergency Planetary Support Team Alpha, report to launch pad A, we have a class four situation on Qualinost,” Drew ordered over the comm system.

“Admiral, we should inform Ambassador Laika,” Saarok said calmly, “she has recently been made Liaison Officer.”

“Go and tell her to join the rescue mission,” Drew told Saarok, “I’ll inform Magellan of the situation.”

Magellan arrived at Sickbay worried by the state of affairs. The Nebula was several parsecs away and shouldnt have been anywhere near Assailant. Still strange things happened out in space.
"Yes Doctor what seems to be the trouble. I have a crisis developing."
"Over here Admiral. Ambassador Tedak brought in this young lady. We re having trouble with her, I dont recognise her species and I cant get close to her to check her over"
"I see. Tedak where was she?"
Tedak explained where she had found the woman, Magellan nodded appropraitly.
"Where is she now?"
"In Isolation 1"
They moved over to the window, where the woman now dressed in a hospital gown sat cross legged on the bed. She stared about her in fascination as if everything around her was new.
All of a sudden these was a loud noise like a thunderclap and a ball of electrical energy burst into the room. It fizzed around her sparks flying in to her. She threw her head back and screamed,
"By the moons get her out of there" Magellan yelled but Stuart was already moving towards the door.
He had barely opened it when the woman thrust out her palms and with a cry of anquish turned them upwards. The electrical discharge funnelled down into the palms. With a flash it was absorbed and she collapsed on to teh bed.
Stuart reached her side and tenativly reached a hand out.
The womans skin was clammy and gave him a faint tingle like a static discharge. Quickly he checked for a pulse, it was irregular but strong. Next he moved up to check her pupils but as he neared the womans eyes flipped open and with a scream she flung him with superhuman strength backwards.
Tomlinson like lightening itself has phaser out and was in the room. He pulled the Doctor to his feet and dragged him from the room. he punched the console locking the small isolation room.
"I suggest we keep this locked for now"
"Agreed" Magellan answered "Doctor how are you?"

Tag Stuart

"Is this true Tedak - you have an affinity with this...girl?"

Tag Tedak

"Very well then I want you and the doctor to find a way to make conatct with her. Find out where she came from and whats happening to her. I ll be in Ops. I suspect this storm and her appearance are related."

In response, Tedak moved towards the girl, and stayed between her and Tomlinson's line of fire. He glared at the admiral for a moment. "Affinity, yes. I found her and brought her here. Yet, now she does not want me to leave, watch."

In demonstration, he walked away from the girl and out of her line of sight, upon which she woke up and screamed again. She didn't stop screaming until he returned to her line of sight. When he returned, she clung to him like an infant would to her father. Gently he disentangled her fingers from his robes and guided her back to the bed.

"It's all right now, I'm not going anywhere," he whispered to her, then returned to Magellan. "It is quite disturbing, how am I to go about my duties when this girl won't let me leave her side? I cannot begin to guess what will happen if I leave sickbay to attend to my duties, and my firelizards. I have not dared calling them here, as I fear what she may do to them."

Stuart looked at Admiral Lin in disbelief while still shaking his head. “Uh, sir. Can we get back to where 100,000 beings on this station and 250,000+ on the planet below were going to be a challenge? I mean I’ve been on station less than twenty four hours and have been zapped by an electrical discharge and thrown halfway across a room already.” Stuart held his head and looked at the strange visitor. “I don’t even know if her beauty is even worth all this pain.”

The admiral simply smiled.

Stuart did notice from earlier, as well as now, how much calmer the young woman was when within Tedak’s vicinity. “Sir, if I may suggest. Even though I have had my share of dealings with her already, I truly believe that she will not cause any problems if she was to accompany Ambassador Tedak. Maybe she’s here looking for something or someone, but we won’t find out with her locked up in here. Of course I’d attach a security detail to the ambassador.”

Admiral Lin was pondering the idea in his head while Ambassador Tedak was comforting the woman in question.

Stuart couldn't get passed those mesmerizing eyes that had literally electrified him.

“Go and tell her to join the rescue mission,” Drew told Saarok, “I’ll inform Magellan of the situation.”

"I need to sort out some things in the embassy so I will inform her as well.", Saarok said

After finishing the convo with the admiral, Saarok and his security moved out of the ops center and proceeded towards the turbolift. As they were walking down the corridor the lights flickered again, which was not a sign of good things to come, and it certainly was not going to give anyone a chance to get some rest nor to do the exams Dr. Mercy planned for them, but perhaps that was a good thing.

As they entered the lift, they ordered it to the correct deck, but something appeared to be wrong with the lift, as it appeared to be moving more slowly than usual.

=/\=Ambassador Saarok to ops=/\=

=/\=Drew here go ahead=/\=

=/\=There appears to be a problem with lift nr. 5, you should send an engineering team to run diagnostics on it, it appears to be moving slower then usual=/\=

=/\=Understood, Drew out=/\=

As the lift finally made it to the correct deck, Saarok and the two officers got out of it and proceeded down the corridor. When they approached the embassy, they entered. Even though it was night there were still people running around inside, attempting to restore the link to central DCS news network and a link to Earth but the nebula appeared to be affecting long range communications as no contact could be established.

He made way to the hive and arrived to the office of Ambassador Laika. He pressed the bell on the side of the door and entered without even waiting for a response.

"Ambassador Saarok"; Laika said as he entered her office leaving his guards outside

Skipping the human way of polite talk at the start of the convo Saarok got right down to business. He told Jatira everything about the current situation, and the nebula and the distress cal from Qualinost and also that she should accompany the rescue team, she was supposed to report to launch pad alpha ASAP.

<Jatira>

After ending the talk with Jatira he went back into the central hive of the embassy where people were still running around carrying pads, transportable receivers and transponders, and even paper, although Saarok could not see the logic in replicating paper at a time like this. He approached the main comm. console where the chief liaison officer between the DCS, Earth and Assailant was working.

"Report!", he said to the man

Tedak sighed, a suspension of his normal duties was the last thing he needed. Yet, glancing back at the obviously frightened girl, he knew that there were more important issues going on right now. "I'll take her with me," he said, "she can stay in the guest room. I am sure T'Val would not mind me playing host to this girl."

He looked her over and glanced from Tomlinson to Mercy. "Is she medically fit or must she remain in quarantine?" he finally asked.

<mercy>

"Very well, I will take her with me then," Tedak said and bowed lightly towards the CMO, then courteously extended his right hand towards the woman. "If you would follow me please, ma'am," he said gently, "I believe now is the time we should introduce ourselves to one another." He bowed slightly yet again. "I am Ambassador Tedak, representative of the Romulan Empire. You have met Doctor Stuart Mercy and Lieutenant Tomlinson."

<does this girl give her name now? No, lol>

Tedak took her arm, and escorted her out of sickbay, towards his own quarters. "This is where I live with my wife," he explained, then pointed at the two firelizards, who were watching the woman with silent curiosity. "That are my companions, the brown is Nut, the bronze is Sev. They will not harm you, and will protect you if I tell them to."

He gazed the young woman over. "I would assume that you would like to freshen up and get out of that sickbay attire. Please follow me." He led the woman to the bathroom, and showed her how to work the shower, while he ordered proper attire for her from the replicator.

Half an hour later, the girl re-emerged from the bathroom, her purple hair still damp, and dressed in a long elegant dress that matched her eyes and hair. "Lovely," Tedak remarked, "you look absolutely astonishing." Then he smirked at her. "if Doctor Mercy would see you now, he would go down on his knees for you."

The Romulan ambassador hadn't missed the looks the young doctor had cast at the girl, and assumed that the young man was smitten with the girl. "Would you care for some refreshment?"

<I'll leave you to reply for the girl Magellan; Thanks.

The girl cocked her head to one side and stared at Tedak. Her lips and mouth moved but nothing but noise came out. It was no language Tedak was certain of that.
Tedak went to the replicator and called up a speciality dish to try and tempt her. As teh replicator whooshed into life the Girl looked up and rushed over.

"See food" Tedak pointed and lifted the plate, The girl ignored him and placed an outstretched hand on the replicator screen. Electricty erupted from her fingernails and entered the replicator. There was a whir and a swirl of purple gas appeared.
Tedak stared at the small pocket of purple gas as it roiled around the pad of teh replicator, it looked for all the world like the nebula outside.

Lieutenant Timmy Tucker hurried down to launch pad alpha as soon as the call came in from Admiral Drew, he was the security officer assigned to the rescue team, and this was going to be his first major rescue mission.

Reaching the launch pad, he was greeted by the team commander – a Vulcan male named Vok, who was currently speaking to Admiral Drew over the comm system, being briefed on the situation on Qualinost. Timmy was no scientist so he couldn’t understand how it was possible for the Nebula to have expanded so much, but he did understand the dangers posed to a planet that experienced such a phenomena.

“Your attention please,” Vok said, catching everyone’s attention, “I have our orders.”

Timmy stood extra straight as Vok explained how the radiation from the Nebula had entered the atmosphere of Qualinost, causing the air to become polluted, the job of the Away Team would be to evacuate the worst infected areas, and provide medical treatment. As this was happening, a squadron of Runabouts would orbit the planet, and repair the damage done.

“Any questions?” Vok asked as he finished the briefing, nobody answered, but the doors to the room did open as Ambassador Laika hurried in, “Ambassador,” Vok said in greeting, “I was informed you would be joining us, we were just about to beam down.”

<tag Jatira, I’ll NPC some members of the away team with you>

As every one had left the infirmary Stuart was left alone, to contemplate what to do next. Just having arrived on station and already in the middle of a crisis situation, he was sure that now was no time to be idle. He tapped his com badge.

=/\= Admiral Lin. Dr. Mercy here. I was just wondering if you have any reports of any injuries or anything else of medical importance. =/\=

=/\= Injuries on station, no. We do, however, have a situation on Qualinost. It seems the nebula has entered the atmosphere and has caused some radiation poisoning. Admiral Drew has activated the Emergency Planetary Support Team Alpha and they are just about to transport to the planet. =/\=

=/\= Ah, I see. Does Admiral Drew not think that I am capable of handling the situation or did he think I was way too busy, for I wasn’t notified of this support team call up? I can’t emphasize enough that I feel I should be included in this. =/\=

=/\= My apologies dear doctor. I’m sure it was just a small oversight with you having just come on station. You just haven’t been integrated into the automatic call up. Collect your gear. I’ll have the team wait for you. Lin out. =/\=

Stuart did just that. He assembled his med kit and added a few items specifically for radiation poisoning. Anyone with severe symptoms would need immediate transport to the station anyways. He informed nurse Tsomba to be expecting casualties and to have the EMH on standby.

Dr. Stuart Mercy made his way to the transporter room.

He didn't know whether to be impressed or afraid by the young woman's actions as his gaze remained fized on the purple cloud. At last he set the tray down and gently pulled the girl away from the replicator. "That is a replicator," he explained, "it is used to make us food." With that, he pointed at the plate of food, which was a variety of foodstuffs from different cultures.

Tedak was fairly sure that there ought to be something to her liking between the foods, but apparently she craved for the energy emitted by the replicator. The girl pulled herself free from his grip and returned to the replicator.

"Miss," Tedak started, then wondered what to call the girl, as she'd not spoken in any language he understood, and since he was no telepath, he had no idea what her name was. He pulled her away from the replicator again, and led her to a chair at the dining table. Then he cupped her chin in his hand and gazed at her intently. "You need a name," he finally decided, "so that I have something to call you by. You have beautiful hair, it reminds me of a Lily, so that is what I will call you. Does this strike your fancy?"

The girl returned his scrutinizing gaze as if she were copying him, then smiled brightly at him. Again, Tedak gestured to the food. "Try some," he suggested, upon which she hesitantly picked up a piece of fruit. Her face contorted as she tried the fruit, then spit it out. She glared at him angrily.

"I guess that is not to your liking then," Tedak laughed, as he continued to suggest other pieces of food. At last, she seemed to find something of her liking, as she gulped down three mugs of Raktajino.

To the Romulan ambassador, the girl seemed very intelligent, and seemed to be absorbing the information she was handed all around her, either just by looking at things, or listening to people talking.

"Lily, would you like to see more of the station?" Tedak suddenly suggested.

The girl looked up, and Tedak was surprised to see her nod. "Very well, let's go then and I'll show you around." He held out his hand to her, which she eagerly grabbed. Tedak felt a jolt shoot up his arm as remnants of static electricity shot through him. ~odd~ he thought, but he didn't yank his hand away as he would normally have done.

He led the girl through the mazes of corridors and led her up to OPS. "This is the command centre," he explained, "overthere you see the main office. Perhaps I should properly introduce you to the commanding officer now." They walked up to F'Rass, who held station before the office. "Is the admiral in?" Tedak asked quietly, "I've got someone I;d like to introduce."

F'Rass was not best pleased, Ops as far as he was concerned was no place for civilians, Ambassadors or not.
He smiled politely, a site most found decidedly creepy, something to do with the curl of teh lips and the revealed fangs. But then to bear ones fangs to someone on Regula was the equivelant of a handshake on earth.
"Pleased to meet you... Lily"
Lily seemed not to notice the Regulan and stared around the room in fascination. She walked to the window and stared out into the dock. Then she noticed the viewscreen. It depicted the nebula. It held her gaze and she moved towards it.
"Yes thats the nebula. It surrounded the base... well about the same time you were found." Tedak looked at F'rass, could this be important?
Lily moved away from the viewscreen and over to the master operations table.
She stretched out her hands to touch it. She laid her palms down on it. Blue White electircity arced from her, entering and leaving the terminal. It intensified and began to form a shell of electirical energy around her.
"What the...!" Frass exclaimed dashing towards her,
"No!" Tedak shouted "Dont touch her"
F'rass paused,
"But..."
"The last one to try that was flung across the room." Tedak moved round the table towards her carefully,
"Lily?"
The girl appeared not to hear him.
"Sir somethings going on" Bral announced from Tactical,
"What" teh Regulan snapped,
"Its the systems, its as if we re experienicng a station wide power drain. Also somethingis access or library, data banks, everything, every bit of information is being... scanned... downloaded."
F'rass turned back to Lily,
"Now Miss this is inappropriate."
Lily ignored him. If anything the bond between her and the terminal increased.
"I m sorry Sir, but this has to stop" F'Rass siad to Tedak. He pulled out a phaser and before he could stop him fired on Lily.
The beam lapped around the energy shell. Lily's head jerked up and looked directly at him. She raised an arm and blasted him with a thunderbolt. F'Rass fell back his fur all on end. He looked like a blow dried Cat.
"You okay?" Tedak asked,
F'rass nodded and tentativly touched his comm badge,
"Ops to senior staff and Security. Report to Ops immediatly."
Lily looked at Tedak a pleading look on her face then in a wave of sparks collapsed. Ops blacked out, all the terminals went dead and they were left in the dim glow of emergency lighting.
On the viewscreen however were three words in Purple Text.

The chief liaison officer for the communications in the federation embassy was attempting to explain to Saarok something he himself could not understand, All long range communication were offline and could not be repaired no matter what they tried.

"Well sir, all long range communications are down and we can not get them up"; the man informed Saarok

"That is, odd", Saarok said to the man

"Sir?", the mans asked looking oddly at Saarok

Just as Saarok was about to explain there was a bright flash in all of the consoles in the comm. center just moments before it all shut down. Everything went dead, display pads, operations panels, personal computers, normal lights, everything went offline.

"What is going on", Saarok asked the chief officer

"I do not know sir, everything just died, and all our databases are locked out, no way to access them.", the man said

Just as Saarok was about to contact ops, he heard a hail from Commander F'Rass.

=/\=Ops to senior staff and Security. Report to Ops immediately.=/\=

Seeing what has just happened and now this hail, from OPS, Saarok decided to go up and see what exactly is happening. Seeing that most likely all personnel transports and lifts were offline, he thought of his two firelizards who immediately appeared next to him.

After exchanging a few brief sentences with his two guards, Saarok and one of his guards opened up a Jeffries tube in the bulkhead of the embassy and proceeded, with the help of the firelizards, on their journey to the ops center.

--Some time later--

After finally they arrived to the panel that opened directly to ops, Saarok kicked the panel open and to the surprise of everyone present up there, he, his guard and the firelizards arrived to ops. Adm. Drew was already up there but Saarok could not see adm. Magellan anywhere, however he did see Tedak next to an oddly looking girl and the letters Who Am I written on the main viewer.

"Admiral Drew, what is going on", Saarok asked as he approached the admiral who was talking with F'Rass.

"All of the terminals on the station went off line"; Saarok added while waiting for the admirals response

"No!" Tedak shouted, as F'Rass moved to stop the girl, "it is very dangerous for you to do so. She has the power to fling you aside with a mere gesture of her hand."

They stood waiting as the girl concentrated on the console, and finally turned to Tedak with a pleading look in her eyes, before she collapsed. Tedak rushed towards her, and caught her just before she could hit her head on the deck. He held her close to him, and felt static electricity run through him. Without having to look in a mirror, he knew his hair was sticking out to all ends, as each single hair repelled another.

He felt the girl's body racking with sobs, and he looked up to Saarok, who read aloud what the console was saying. "Who are you indeed," Tedak whispered, as he gathered her up in his arms, and carried her into Magellan's office, not caring whether the admiral minded or not. At present, the office had the most comfortable chair at hand, and he placed her in it.

"She appeared when the nebula engulfed us," Tedak guessed, "so she must come from there. Since her arrival, she hasn't spoken a word, but she refuses to leave my side. She's hurt Doctor Mercy, but she hadn't meant him any harm. She apparently thought he was going to hurt her."

He ran his hand through her beautiful purple long hair, which felt like silk to the touch. "What I can tell you is that she's young, I'm guessing fifteen maybe sixteen standard years old." He paused when Nut came winging in, chirping his worry. The Romulan ambassador held out his arm to the little brown, allowing him to land. The brown gazed at the girl with curiosity, chirping questioningly.

Lily opened her eyes and squealed in fright. Tedak knelt before her, so that he was at eye level with her, then pointed at Nut. "This is my friend Nut," he explained, "he is a firelizard, and he will protect you when I tell him to. He is of no danger to you, and means you no harm." Nut hopped forward, and nuzzled her cheek in response. This time, the girl seemed to giggle but the fear did not leave her eyes.

Tedak looked around the room. "Where is Magellan?" he finally asked.

The transporter chief had started the initiation sequence to energize, but then the power had gone out. Now the emergency lights where on and not much else.

“Sorry sirs, but I don’t think the transporter is going to be back online anytime soon. We just had a major power fluctuation and we’re down to emergency power…not enough to transport you folks.” That was the transporter chief’s assessment.

Dr. Stuart Mercy was the first to speak. “Well, I suppose we could take a shuttlecraft? But I wonder if that is safe enough through this nebula. Chief, who would know this for sure?”

“Well sir, I suggest you check in at ops. The science officer there should be able to asses that for you. Hopefully they got some decent scans before this power outage.”

Stuart tapped his comm badge.

Magellan quickened his pace as the lights went out. Things did not look good. Assailant took on an eeirie quality when under emergency conditions. Officers moved methodically and carefully to their posts. They were good people and knew what to do in such a situation.
Appearing in Ops Magellan appraised the situation. He noticed the frazzled F'Rass and noticed the scorch marks on the ops terminal. He could also see Tedak and Saarok in his office. No doubt the girl was in there and the root cause.
"Report" he barked and listened with increasing annoyance as F'raas relayed his sorry tale.
"...and lastly Dr Mercy and Jatiras rescue mission to Qualinost is stalled without transporters."
"Okay one step at a time. Get maintenance - all of them on this. I want the station operational. Give Dr Mercy authority to use the runabouts to get his team down there. Assign Tomlinson and his pilots to fly them. And then consider yourself off duty"
"Aye Sir" F'Raas replied crestfallen.
Magellan wasnt having any of it. It was the regulan who had initiated a higher energy burst than necessary and who had allowed the girl a) into Ops and then b) access to their systems.
Leaving Ops he entered his office,
"Whats going on?" he demanded,
<Tag Tedak and Saarok>

"but shes okay?. well I suppose thats one thing. And at least shes attempting communication. We need more information. I ve had an idea - Dr Lenara Kahn, my friend maybe able to help. Drew could scarcely believe what had happened, he had been in Magellan’s office, relaying a report to Starfleet on the current situation, when suddenly all power had gone, then upon hearing the commotion out on Ops, he headed out to see what had happened.

He found Tedak, and a girl he didn’t recognise near the centre of Ops, the girl appeared to be in a great deal of pain, and Tedak’s hair was standing on end for some reason, almost as if he had been electrocuted. It was then that Saarok arrived on the bridge, and asked Drew just what had happened.

“I wish I could tell you Ambassador,” Drew said, “because right now, I don’t have a clue.”

Drew knelt down next to Tedak, to more closely examine the girl, as Saarok read out what the console was saying, Tedak and Drew both exchanged surprised glances, and then Drew indicated Magellan’s office.

“Better to get her away from Ops,” he said, as he helped Tedak pick her up.

Minutes later, Magellan was back up on Ops, taking charge of the situation. While the Ambassadors and Magellan busied themselves trying to solve the problems with the girl, who Tedak informed them he had named Lily, Drew was given the task of trying to get the station’s power back up.

Getting a palm torch from the nearby storage locker, he walked back out onto Ops, and cast the light around the area, which upon until now had been lit solely by the stars of the display screen.

“Is everyone ok?” he asked, as he stepped down to the command and control station, in the centre of Ops.

“Just a bit shocked,” Lt. Commander Vicky Nelson, there new Strategic Operations Officer said from her station, “I have never seen anything like that.”

“You must never have served on a ship named Enterprise then,” Drew said with a chuckle, as he checked the status of the rest of the Ops team. In times like this, Drew knew it was important to keep moral up, people didn’t like the station being powerless, especially with so many unexplainable events happening in the last few hours.

“That Nebula is nothing but trouble,” Nelson said, “first the Copenhagen gets lost in it, and now this.”

“That may be Commander,” Drew said, preferring not to think about the Copenhagen’s fateful mission, “but lets concentrate on getting Assailant up and running again before we try to explain what happened.”

Although Drew tried to sound confident in his words, in truth he had no idea how to get power back, just like Nelson, he had never experienced anything quite like this before, it was going to take time to learn how to re-power everything. And Drew just couldn’t help but shake the feeling that time was something they didn’t h

Tedak sighed deeply, as he stood protectively over the girl. "Admiral, allow me to introduce Lily," he started, then hesistated as he had no idea how to explain this. Earlier in sickbay, he'd been unable to explain to.

He coughed a few times, then caught Drew sniggering at him and cast a glare at he admiral. In response, Drew pointed at his hair, and laughed again. Tedak rolled his eyes and tried to smoothen down his hair again, unfortunately to no avail. This action, however, drew laughter from the girl. Tedak smiled wryly at her, tousling her hair. "You like that don't you," he teased, then turned back to Magellan. "She somehow drew energy from the console. She's done this earlier in my quarters, after I had replicated food for her. She's learning to eat our kinds of food, but it appears she needs electrical energy for sustenance."

Jatira was somewhat startled when Ambassador Saarok suddenly came barging into her office, but she knew that she shouldn't have been. He wouldn't have done such a thing without a good reason.

"What is it Ambassador?" she asked, seeing that he wanted to get right to the point.

"It is about our current situation," he began and told her what was happening.

She was uncertain what that meant to her and why he came personally to talk, but then he mentioned that she was needed on the rescue team since she was the new liaison officer.

"You need to report to launch pad alpha," he told her.

"Of course," she nodded and watched as he hurried out the door. She paused for a moment and then called for Sala, her aid. Sala came running and Jatira quickly explained what she was going to be doing.

"Please allow me to accompany you, Ambassador," she asked. "I would feel better if I went along."

"Yes, of course you may come!" Jatira said. "I'm sure you're help will be greatly appreciated."

"Okay," she nodded. "I know what to do," she said and grabbed a few items to take along. A mintue later, both of them were hurrying to launch pad alpha.

Dr Kahn heard the call for her attendance in Ops and quickly made her way up the station the decks. Lighting had been restored to most of the station but strangely certain parts still remained dark. Assailant was an old station. Built in the 2290’s it had been in continuous service. New additions and system upgrades had all been layered on the top resulting in an engineering jigsaw puzzle that resembled Kal-toh. Once in Ops she found Magellan stood looking out of the main window.
“Magellan?”
“Ah Lenara, I need your expertise”
“Of course what can I do?”
“Its your scientific mind I need. In particular your knowledge of nebulas and life forms.”
“You do have your own scientific knowledge you know” Lenara noted,
“Yes, but I’ve drawn as much from Toya as I can. She was an exo-ecologist and this is unusual even for her.”
“You haven’t dug deep enough.”
“I don’t have time”
“I take it yourself and Lin are still not in unison”
“Not exactly. But that can wait for now.”
“Agreed. What do you want me to do?”
“Start with the analysis of the nebula fragment that’s engulfing us.”
Magellan led Lenara to a console and got her logged in. With power still fluctuating it was hard to keep anything going but with perseverance gained from several life times she started to work.

Down on the launch pad the Planetary Support Team had finally assembled. Lieutenant Commander Vok stood beside Ambassador Jatira. The Vulcan, an Operations Specialist paced before them.
“The main city on Qualinost whilst re-inhabited lacks a deflector shield. High levels of radioisotopes have flooded the surface. The inhabitants require immediate medical support. Embark”
The line of officers quickly entered the Runabout. Ensign N’Chok took helm whilst Lt Timmy Tucker took the co-pilot seat. Dr Mercy sat beside Nurse T Somba and Doctors Shav-es and Winston. Three Orderlies and 5 other nurses sat towards the back. Jatira sat near the front with Vok.
“Ambassador I hope that you can smooth the way with the Elders.”
“Smooth?”
“Jak’dor (the Debrune leader) is as illogical as his Debrune and Romulan brethren. He has on many occasions declined Starfleet assistance despite this being a Federation Planet.”
“I see” Jatira answered nervously, she was unsure what to expect from her first diplomatic encounter with the Debrune.
“We’re ready to go. Everyone buckle in this is going to be rough” N’Chok grinned broadly.

Magellan popped into his office to check on the others.
“How is she?”
“She seems well” Tedak replied,
“And seems communicative” Saarok added,
“Destructive more like” Magellan answered ruefully.
Tedak stepped forward protectively,
“She didn’t intend it. It was just… I don’t know too much for her.”
Magellan relented,
“Agreed. At least she communicated, not that its got us far. She doesn’t even know who she is.”
Tedak and Saarok nodded.
“perhaps there is a way we can communicate with her again.” Tedak suggested
“SHE IS NOT going anywhere a terminal” Magellan insisted.
“Perhaps a PADD will do” Saarok suggested
“Okay, do it. Although our priority is power. We need things back up.”
With that he bobbed back into Ops.
“Paul get down to maintenance and find out whats taking Chief Alari so long.”
“Will do, your with me Nelson. Your chance to visit the bowels of the station, and Alaris little domain.”
“Aye Sir.”

The girl that seemed to have emerged from the nebula still was not able to communicate verbally, at least in nothing they or the universal translator would understand. The only way to communicate at the moment seems to be via things that have their own power sources, like terminals and Saarok thought that it might be possible to use the pad in the same way.

Now that the girl seemed to have calmed down, he got one of the pads from Magellan's table and wrote some text on it:

"Do you know where you are from"; he asked her and wrote it down on the pad before giving it to her. After he gave her the pad all they could do was wait

--Meanwhile in the Federation Embassy--

Chief liaison officer Tom Quinn was going mad. He could not get access to anything. All of the databases were still off line; they were able to get partial power thanks to the nice people in engineering that put the as high as possible on their repair list, right after the important systems.

"Any luck with the communications relays", he asked one of the OPS people from the station

"No luck sir, the system couldn't be more dead than it is", the man answered

"This is not good, we need access to the DCS news streams, while we are locked down and blocked down here who knows what might happen out there, for all we know we could start a war with the Romulans and we wouldn't know of it till one of their ships came shooting at the station", Tom said

"I know sir, but this nebula simply is not allowing any signals go through it, which is very odd, not to mention that after that power overload we had earlier most of the systems are dead and without power", the OPS tech said

"Keep trying to get a signal through till I try to think of a solution to this problem"; Tom told the man

They were onboard the shuttle. It was a large complement, at least it seemed like it to Dr. Stuart Mercy. There was no telling how many had been afflicted by the radiation within that Nebula.

Stuart hoped that Ambassador Laika would be able to smooth out the diplomatic side of this mission. They were going to need a large facility right away to handle the influx of patients that may be coming. Of course there could already be a hospital available.

Stuart wasn’t sure what the Debrune had established yet on this planet. The Takara, he was sure weren’t going to have much of anything as they were newly arrived refugees. Stuart just hoped that both species could be seen at the same location. He didn’t feel like having to split up his time and resources just because two species can’t get along. That would be another diplomatic hurdle for Ms. Laika.

Stuart just hoped for the best as the shuttle was coming in for a landing.

When the order had come through for him to take the away team down to the planet, Tomlinson had been slightly confused. Although he was in charge of the stations fighter wing, he was not a shuttle pilot. It was only after he had read the orders again, and then slightly interpreted them in his own manner that he found that they were to his liking. He would not be flying the shuttle, he would get another pilot to do that. Instead, he would take a fighter craft as an escort to the shuttle. Indeed, he decided that three escort craft would be suitable.

So it was that a few minutes later he was sitting in the Draconia, his personal fighter.

"This is Freelancer, requesting permission for launch."

"Permission granted Freelancer, have a good flight."

"Affirmative."

With the order given, he powered up his engines, and rose to hover a foot above the shuttlebay floor. Once he confirmed that the shuttle was ready for departure, he gave the order for the other two fighters to leave the bay. He himself waited until the shuttle had gone, and followed behind.

It was the first time in a few weeks that he had flown, and he was thankful now for the order which had let him. Unfortunately, all too soon the planet was looming large in front of them, and he held back while the first pair of fighters landed, soon followed by the shuttle. Once they were down, he did the same, landing the fighter with only a slight jolt.

He released the glass above him, and with a slight hiss it lifted up and rolled back. He jumped out of the fighter, and then moved towards the team, his phaser rifle slung over one shoulder.

Post by Paul Drew on 16 May, 2005, 6:43pm

Entering the maintenance deck, Drew couldn’t see a thing, and not because the lights were out. The entire area was filled with engineers, consoles were ripped open, wires scattered along the floor, and god knows how many toolboxes were on the deck.

“Chief?” Drew called out into the engineering crowd, apologising as he stepped on one poor man’s hand.

“How can anybody work like this?” Nelson asked, coming up behind Drew, doing her best to avoid treading on body parts.

“You will be amazed what conditions Starfleet engineers can work in,” Drew told her, still searching for Chief Alari, “the real question is how can they work so quickly.”

“I told ya before Admiral, its all done by fairies.”

Drew looked and smiled, as Chief Alari appeared from behind a workstation, his uniform covered in dirt marks.

“How are things going Chief?” Drew asked, as he and Nelson walked over to join the Tiburonese officer.

“Well, whatever the heck you brass are doing up on Ops, it fried half the ODN relays on the station, my boys are going to be working round the clock repairing some of this stuff.”

“But it will be fixed?” Drew asked, catching onto the positive aspect of Alari’s complaints.

“Of course it will be fixed Admiral, what sort of an engineer would be I if I couldn’t handle a simple job like this!”

Drew looked around his surroundings, which still looked like a full squad of torpedoes had it. With a smile he decided it best not to ask the Chief what he called hard.

“Admiral Lin wants things back up and running ASAP.”

“Admiral Lin can want what he likes, I have told him before, I wont rush a job, slow and steady wins the race, as you humans like to say.”

“I’ll be sure to pass along the message,” Drew said with a small smile, “but seriously, how long are we talking?”

Alari looked around at his department, and for a few moments, Drew thought the Chief had fallen asleep, so concentrated was his look, but finally Alari gave him an answer.

“And before you even think about cutting my time in two Admiral, I tell ya now it isn’t possible to finish the job in under the time I set,” Alari warned as Drew and Nelson manoeuvred there way back out of the maintenance department.

“Interesting fellow our Mr. Alari,” Nelson commented; once they were safely back out in the corridor.

“Assailant is filled with interesting characters,” Drew told the young Commander, “as I am just discovering myself.”
“I thought you had been on Assailant for months now Admiral?” Nelson asked, clearly confused.

“Very long story Commander,” Drew said, as they stepped into the turbo-lift, the details of Drew’s abduction and replacement by his mirror universe counterpart had been promptly classified at the highest levels.

When the lift had returned back to Ops, Drew looked round for Magellan, finding him back at the command and control station.

“What’s the latest?” Drew asked, stepping down next to his friend.

Lily gazed at the PADD questioningly, wondering what to do with it. She then gazed up at the pointy eared, robed fellow who had given the PADD to him and shook her head, handing the PADD back at him. After returning the PADD, she gazed up at the other pointy eared fellow, the one who had been protecting her ever since he'd found her. On her lap, she found the brown flying creature looking up at her, it's eyes whirling green and blue. It chirped at her, but she couldn't understand what it meant.

From the people gathered around her, she understood their intentions, but she couldn't quite understand their words. She saw the person, whose name she understood was Tedak, kneel down before her, his face level with hers. She saw him take the PADD from the other person, and hold it out to her, indicating that she should answer the question asked.

~how can I answer if I don't understand who or what I am?~ she thought, gazing at the PADD. It's power supply was too small to answer the question, and she reached for the larger panel, to answer. The spotted creature, however, shouted something and she was stopped.

Her eyes sparkled with anger as she shot a glare at the spoted creature who had ordered her stopped. The air fizzed with electricity, and only her protector's calming touch held her back from releasing her frustration at the people around her. Lily sat back in her chair and angrily glared at the PADD in her hand. There was no way she could give the answer they desired on this item, it just didn't hold enough power.

Helplessly, she looked up at Tedak, and noted that the flying creature picked up on her distress as the colour of it's eyes changed from blue/green to orange/red.

Tedak, on his part, turned to the people present in the room. "I don't think she understands what we're trying to get her to do," he said, "I am getting the impression that she's trying to tell us where she is from, but as long as we can't really communicate with her, nor with her remembering who she is, I doubt we can determine where exactly she is from."

He motioned at her, while smiling at her encouragingly. "Obviously she is trying, and she's impatient at that. Also, it seems that she's short tempered and feels hindered in her attempt to communicate. Look at her eyes, they are sparkling with anger. You all know what she can do when she's sufficiently angered. I suggest we give her the room to try to communicate, but isolate this powersupply to a console from the rest of the station. This way she can use part of the energy required for her to communicate, but it will not harm the rest of the station."

Lily stretched out and made a connection with the isolated terminal and began to drink deeply from it.
"Where am I"

Tedak/Saarok

Lily looked around confused.

"What am I?"

"You appear like a woman, a human woman"

"Hoo mon?"

"What do you remember?"

"I remember freedom, great freedom. Being larger much larger. Now I m small and... and static. Pain I recall pain, I recall being forced, channelled... I... I...."
Lily stopped in confusion.

Out in Ops Magellan surveyed the scene. Systems were slowly coming back online and Assailant seemed to be returning to normal. The away team would be reaching Qualinost about now, he hoped the radiation poisoning wasnt too bad.
Lenara swivelled in her chair.
"Magellan I think we have a problem. The nebula whilst not draining our energy is causing a wider problem. The radiation levels are rising exponentially. It will become deadly within the next 30mins, after an hour it will incapcitate us and cause irreparable damage."
"That doesnt give us much time" Drew answered entering Ops again, "By the way the Chief says hes working on it"
"Okay" Magellan replied, "That may all be academic. Shields?"
"Not yet" Drew noted checking a console, "And not for another 2 hours"
"In that case we need to do something... different."
"I suggest polaron burst. It will depolarise the ions and disperse the nebula cloud. Essentially it will distribute the cloud so thinly as to render it harmless, solar winds will then scatter it."
"Go ahead." Magellan instructed.
Lenara began to refocus the emitters and then let out a burst of polarons.

Inside the office Lily turned round and wide eyed screamed. She doubled up on the floor and seemed to phase in and out of existence in a blur of electrical energy.

Tedak still sat knelt before the girl. "You are aboard Starbase Assaillant," he replied, upon which her following questions appeared rapidly. Between the people present, they answered her questions patiently. She was starting to look increasingly confused, as though their answers weren't helping her any.

"You are safe here," Tedak ensured her, "nobody will harm you here." Just as he said it, she screamed and collapsed. The Romulan ambassador stared at her in a mix of fright and amazement as she seemed to be partially out of phase at certain intervals. He gazed up at Saarok. "Go see what they're doing," he urged, "and whatever they're doing, tell them to stop at once or they'll kill her!"

Saarok darted out of the office, as gracefully as possible for a Vulcan. He returned seconds later, looking rather grave. "It is either us, or her," he reported, "radiation levels are rising, and they will become dangerous within 30 minutes."

"What? No 30 point something minutes?" Tedak mocked him angrily. He gathered the girl up in his arms. "I'm going to take her to sickbay," he announced, "oh...a telepath might be useful in trying to talk to her." He shot a look at his Vulcan friend. "I mean one who does not need to touch her. A Betazoid might help us...."

<r?>

With that, Tedak walked out of the office, ignoring anyone and everything around him as he carried the girl to sickbay. Carefully, he placed her on one of the biobeds and covered her with a blanket. He beckoned a nurse to hand him a hypospray. Now that she was unconscious, he might as well draw a blood sample. ~it may violate her trust in me~ he thought ~but it is our safety we're playing with here. Please let me Lily, please~

He got the bloodsample without trouble, but he was surprised at what he was looking at. The contents of the vial were not fluidic, as they seemed to desintergrate as soon as it left her body. "Now that is odd," Tedak muttered, as he entered his observations onto a PADD. THen he gently shook her. "Lily? Lily are you all right? You gave us quite a scare."

The shuttlecrafts landed and Emergency Planetary Support Team Alpha had arrived at a hastily made medical camp. The Debrune had been briefed of their arrival and had set up this camp in one of the ‘clean’ areas of the planet. Shuttles from the starbase were being used for medical evacuations and were bringing in patients from areas were the nebula’s radiation had reached ground level.

Dr. Stuart Mercy was already making a visual assessment. “Ambassador Laika. There are only Debrunes here. Where are the Takarans? Can you go find out what their status is with whoever might be in charge around here? I mean I want you to ensure that Takarans can be brought here for treatment so that we don’t have to travel to another location. Make it clear to these people that it would be very inefficient. Throw in that word ‘illogical’, like those Vulcans always do.”

Stuart took his medical team and ran towards one of the medical tents. They immediately started looking over patients and began their various treatments. The patients had illnesses ranging from basic radiation sickness to the more severe radiation poisoning. There were even more severe cases with injuries of dermal dysplasia, which was a skin disorder due to overexposure to thermal and ultraviolet radiation. This had been brought on by the nebula in areas where it caused holes in the planets atmosphere, displacing the ozone layer, allowing the natural radiation of this system’s sun to become the culprit. Stuart separated these patients and started intracellular regeneration treatments.

Dr. Stuart Mercy split up his team and assigned them for the respective illnesses. He gave instructions to the head nurses. Adrenalin for those with radiation sickness, and hyronalin for the treatment of radiation poisoning. “Be careful to start with a small dosage of hyronalin. Too much will cause hallucinations, and muscle spasms due to a sudden drop of serum calcium. So monitor the patient’s bio levels. We don’t want to be the cause of anymore unnecessary injuries.”

The teams split up and went to work.

Commander Vok led his team out of their shuttle to find a chaotic scene around them. The population of Qualinost had obviously seen the Starfleet shuttle craft approaching, and had ran for the landing site, eager to receive help.

“Please remain calm,” Vok called out to the panicking civilians, “we have adequate medical resources to treat you all.”

Around him Vok was aware that as the medical teams of Emergency Planetary Support Team Alpha rushed to the worse casualties, the security teams were busy trying to stop the population crushing each other in their desperation to receive help. All the team carried phasers, but Vok had made it clear they were only to be used in the direst of situations.

As he looked around, Vok caught sight of a young woman, with a young child in her arms, crying desperately.

“Please help me, my baby!” the woman welled, “my baby! My baby!”

“Medics!” Vok called out, rushing towards the woman to try and calm her down, “it is all right madam, help is on the way,” he told her in a confident voice, as he tried to shelter her from the manic crowds.

Out on Ops, Drew had pulled out the chair for his usual station and was busying himself trying to find a way to secure the station. He was also arranging for the full excavation of the station, just in case they couldn’t stop the radiation levels increasing. Lucky for Assailant there was now more than enough escape pods, and ships in dock to accommodate everyone, the last time they had to evacuate they didn’t have enough space for everyone. Something Magellan had soon corrected Drew knew.

Over the last hour, as word had spread about what had happened, the full Alpha Ops team had reported for duty, including Drew’s wife who was the stations Chief Science Officer.

“What’s the latest?” Joanna asked, in a quiet voice, her science station was next to Drew’s own station wide operations console.

“Unless we find some way to stop the raising levels, we are going to have to evacuate,” Drew told his wife, “I have already sent Darok to get the kids into the shuttle.”

One of the benefits of Drew’s rank was his own personal shuttle, and right now he was making sure his family were safely aboard the small craft, ready to depart the station at a moment’s notice. In the event of a full-scale evacuation Drew’s own place was on the Copenhagen, directing the relief efforts, he had already sent word to have the Copenhagen crewed and ready for launch, and he knew Magellan was making similar arrangements for his ship.

“I’ll go with you on Copenhagen,” Joanna said, “your going to need all the help you can get.”

“No,” Drew said, shaking his head, “get on the shuttle with the kids.”

“You may have more pips on your collar Paul, but don’t think for one minute that means you outrank me,” Joanna said in a warning tone, “I am coming on Copenhagen.”

“Well, with any luck we wont have to evacuate,” Drew told her, “the Chief may just pull off a miracle.”

“Miracle is the right word,” Commander Nelson said across the way from the Strategic Ops station, “he said himself he couldn’t do the job any faster.”

“Which is way we are getting all the civilians safely onto the shuttles,” Drew said, “Within fifteen minutes it will be only Starfleet Officers left here.”

Nelson and Joanna both nodded there heads in agreement, everyone who joined Starfleet was prepared for this sort of thing, and the all knew the first rule was to get all civilians out of harms way.

“Where are you sending them?” Joanna asked.

“We have made arrangements with the Hood and Excellence to stay just outside the system, they will pack all the escape pods and shuttles.” Drew answered, “we also have a squadron of Miranda class relief vessels on the way.”

Before Joanna could answer, all eyes on Ops turned to watch Tedak rush out of Magellan’s office with the strange woman in his arms, without looking at any of them, or saying a word Tedak ran into the turbo lift and disappeared.

“If you ask me,” Lieutenant Fuller, the Engineering Officer on the deck, said, “all this trouble has something to do with that girl.”

“Careful with that line of fault Lieutenant,” Drew said in a warning tone, “you should know never to assume anything.”

“Yeah,” Nelson chipped in, “it makes an ass of you and me.”

“Well,” Joanna said, catching all their attention, “I have been monitoring the nebula, and based on those readings, and the readings we have of the girl, I’d say there was some connection.”

“Explain,” Drew said simply.

“It’s hard to,” Joanna answered truthfully, “but its almost as if the two are connected, anything we do to the nebula effects the girl.”

“Drew to Magellan,” Drew said, hitting his comm button, “could you come out here please?”

Seconds later, Magellan was walking out of his office, and down to the workstations on Ops, he stopped next to Drew and Joanna.

“We may have found something,” Drew said to the Trill Admiral.

“Oh?” Magellan asked, as Joanna started to explain her findings.

Magellan looked down at the PADD Joanna clutched.
"I m not sure what I m looking at here?"
"Look here" she pointed, "The curve here is nebula density, the one on the left is the biosignature of our guest."
"And..." Magellan asked, he was tired and not thinking particularly clearly,
"And... here they both dip. Its the point the polaron burst was made."
Lenara Kahn came up and looked at the PADD herself.
"Shes right Mag. They are clearly linked. One affects the other."
"Great" Magellan rolled his eyes,
"So if we disperse the nebula we disperse her." Paul confirmed
"Yes" Joanna answered plainly,
"But the radiation will render this base uninhabitable in minutes" Lenara noted
"Is there nothing we can do?"
Lenara shook her head,
"No. And whats worse it will affect the Qualinost too. At the moment the dose is low but it will rise exponentially in a matter of hours."
"Damned if we do and damned if we don't" Magellan muttered
"Perhaps theres another option?" Drew suggested,
"Maybe but I can't see it. Lily is obviously the key. We need more information on her - Lenara, can you and Joanna scan her, talk to her whatever, find me a third option."
"Sure we can try" Lenara nodded
"I think I saw Tedak whisk her away."
"Hes become quite protective of her. If he proves a problem contact me" Drew said.
"Yes dear" Joanna replied sweetly a wry smile on her lips, "I think I can handly him"

Dr. Stuart Mercy heard the security officers call for a medic. He was the closest person there and he could hear the child crying desperately. "Bring her over here Commander." Cmdr Vok guided the mother who was so desperately clutching onto her child.

Stuart started his tricorder scans on the child. "This will only take a moment." He tried to comfort her. The scans revealed that the child had minor exposure to radiation poisening but enough to cause it severe pain for its fragile body. "Your child will be fine." He gave the child a small dose of the Hyronalin for the poisening and a dose of Asinolyathin for the pain. The child stopped crying almost immediately and the mother embraced Stuart with such great strength that he had to catch his breath. Cmdr Vok led them away and Stuart moved on to some of the severe cases.

After all of the commotion which was caused by the newly discovered link between the girl who Tedak was protecting and the nebula was over and people calmed down a bit a new commotion rose up. The radiation within the Starbase was soon going to become lethal and it didn't look like the CEO would be able to get the shields up and running in time, which meant one of two things either take actions which will undoubtedly kill the girl or evacuate.

Alto Saarok had a pretty good opinion of what should be done, as the needs of many are more important than the needs of the one. However he decided to keep that part to himself for now.

"There might be someone here who would suit our needs", Saarok answered as Tedak stormed out carrying the girl in his hands

As Joanna was about to head down after Tedak, Saarok called her over for a moment, but then Adm. Drew came to attempt to get the ambassador to evacuate.

"Ambassador it is time for you to go, we can no longer guarantee your safety here.", Drew said

"Admiral, you need not be concerned about my safety, but I thank you for your concern, and i will be remaining aboard this Starbase till the last minute"; Saarok said as he turned to Joanna

"I would like to accompany you in your search for Tedak, I know where we can find him but first i would like to stop by the Federation embassy, most of the staff should be safely evacuated by now but there is someone who i believe is still there and she could help us in communicating with the girl"; Saarok said

"Very well ambassador ", she said

After finishing the conversation in the Ops, Saarok, Joann and his guard departed for the federation Embassy. They did not speak much while they were moving through the base, Saarok knew that she was probably concerned about the radiation levels and about admiral Drew, but one had to admit that she did not express her worries out loud like some others do.

After they arrived to the embassy, the went inside, most of the embassy staff was gone by now as expected, alto some officials were still doing their jobs, and the security was still there, minus a few officers that were assigned to the personnel that has departed. Saarok moved through the embassy until he reached the office of the Betazoid attaché.

He chimed at the bell and a few moments later he heard the words, come. He was correct in his assumption that Dana Descartes would still be there.

"Ambassador", she said as she rose from her chair

They shook hands after which Saarok got right down to the point, as their time was running short. Saarok and Dana Descartes went a long way back, and she was one of the people who were able to shine some light on his past, at least the part of it they shared.

"Dana, i require your assistance", he said

"I am not sure are you aware.....", he told her the summary of the recent occurrences

"Well i will do everything I can do to help Saarok"; she said, she was the one of the few people in the embassy who tended to refer to the ambassador by using only his name

"Let's get moving"; she said as she rose from her chair and went out of the door

"On the way out of the embassy they picked up another security guard before they went to sickbay which was the place where they would find ambassador Tedak

Joanna let Saarok and his colleague lead the way down to sickbay; the two were deep in conversation about the girl – who had been named Lily – and the effects of the radiation on the station. Joanna herself was busy still consulting with her tricorder, the radiation seemed to be increasing the further into the Starbase they went.

Reaching sickbay, they found Tedak fussing over Lily, who he had placed on an empty bio bed, a few of the Nurses were stood in the corner watching the Romulan Ambassador. One or two of them seemed rather annoyed. Joanna nodded politely at them all, and then approached Tedak.

“Ambassador,” she said in way of greeting, “we have made an interesting discovery.”

Tedak looked up at her with a glare in his eye, almost as if he was annoyed to be disturbed from caring for his patient.

“Really,” Tedak said matter of fact way, “and what interest is this to me?”

“It concerns Lily,” Joanna explained, “We believe she is somehow connected to the nebula.”

“Explain,” Tedak said in a harsh tone.

Joanna didn’t even blink at the Ambassador’s bluntness; being married to an Admiral she had met her fair share of diplomatic officers, and knew how to handle them with ease.

“Based on our primary readings, we believe there is a connection between the nebula and Lily, she appeared the same time as we encountered problems with the nebula, and every attempt to free ourselves has resulted in harming her further.”

“We have brought along with us a Betazoid, with the intent of trying to form telepathic communication with Lily, in the hopes it can give us more answers.”

Tedak paused to take in this information, and then he looked across at Lily before turning back to Joanna, everyone waited for what the Ambassador had to say.

The Romulan ambassador stayed silent for a long moment, just gazing between Mrs Drew and Lily. He had known there was something perculiar about the girl, and his suspiscions had been confirmed by the bloodsample he had taken, but he hadn't yet made the connection between the girl.

Finally he nodded at the Betazoid to approach, but he hovered closeby, making sure the woman wouldn't hurt his charge. Lily was still unconscious but for some reason Tedak doubted that she was completely unaware of her surroundings. He knew she would wake if touched.

Ruefully, he rubbed the back of his head. Lily had woken up after he'd taken the bloodsample, and the girl hadn't been pleased. In fact, she'd been raging at him, and had flung him across sickbay. Of course, she'd started crying afterwards, reaching for him. He looked up at Joanna and Saarok. "If she hurts Lily...." He let his voice trail off, then beckoned Joanna. "Have a look at this," he said, showing her the bloodsample taken from Lily.

From the corner of his eyes, he watched the Betazoid woman trying to make contact with the girl. He was glad she didn't have to touch Lily as so far only he'd been able to touch her without repercussions from her end. "Do not touch her," he warned anyway, and shot a glare at the nurses who still didn't look pleased. Earlier, he'd shoved the nurses aside roughly when they started prodding and poking her, and complaining when they'd been flung away.

Dana approached lily with caution. Her black pupils met Lilys purple. Tentatively she pushed out her mind to meet that of lilys. It was strange unlike anything she had ever encountered before. Disparate was one word for it, disjointed another. Lilys mind was a kin to something newborn in development and yet had a depth of... knowledge if it could be called that.
"Well?" Tedak asked,
"its hard to explain" Dana replied, "Her mind is like an infants, its afraid and learning fast. But on the other hand theres an age to it. Its almost as if someone took an existing mind and took a part of it, a graft you could call it, a splinter."
"So its part of a greater whole then" Joanna suggested,
"Of sorts, except this girl is seperate mentally. She has her own identity, its just that its linked to well whatevers out there"
"The nebula" Lenara noted, "The nebula cloud that engulfed the station had unusually high readings of electrochemical discharges"
"Like a humanoid brain"
"Yes"
"So when F'rras polarised the station he some how created Lily" Paul asked incredously
"I think so" Lenara nodded
"From this I d have to agree." Joanna agreed, "What we have here is a new lifeform, one based on electrical information. Lily has shown herself to be extremely adept at interfacing with computer systems but her corporeal form is tied to the nebula, remove the nebula and her body disappears."
"But dont we have to erradicate the nebula cloud to save the station" Tedak said,
"We do"
"Well that is unacceptable. " Tedak stated " You cant just condemn her to death"
"Need I remind you the needs of the many out way the needs of few" Saarok noted in an unusually vulcan way,
"bah, this is a persons life we are discussing here."
Drew decided to intercede,
"Perhaps there is a third option."
"Like what?"
"Well thats what we need to devise and quickly. We have the following facts - The base is in danger, we need to remove the cloud, to do so will destroy lilys body but not her mind. Lily can interface with our technology. Our computer systems are on the brink of failure, anything we do has to be done fast."
"Sounds simple" Lenara quipped darkly,

Re: MISSION 2.2 The Nascent
Post by Commodore Sonak Reckus on 29 May, 2005, 6:58pm

"And what of her body?" Tedak retorted angrily, "she cannot remain in our computer! She is a life-form, she has a right to remain as she is. You say the needs of the many Saarok, that is so typically Vulcan! What about her needs?"

He glared from Saarok to Paul Drew, to Joanna Drew, past every other person present and finally fixed his gaze on Lenara. All the while he stood protectively beside Lily, who seemed very aware of the tension and anger hanging in the air. She reached out and clung to the Romulan like a frightened child, as if understanding what they were likely to do.

"I won't let you," Tedak growled, and suddenly his two firelizards appeared in sickbay, screeching with anger. Yet, they only hovered before Lily, their eyes whirling red and orange. Nut settled in her lap, flipped his wings onto his back and just stood there, glaring at the people present.

Sev landed on the foot end of the bed, and copied his littermate's behaviour. "I won't let you do this," Tedak repeated, "she has rights, and I am going to make sure that she's given those rights to their full extend. She is a living, breathing person, and we've no right to terminate it, let allone suggest that she give up her life as it is now to continue as computer being. Look at her! Just look at her, she's intelligent. I believe she understands every word we speak!"

He disengtangled her arms from his torso, and gave hr an encouraging pat on her shoulder, then ruffled his hand through her hair with a smile. "Don't worry," he whispered at her, "I'm not about to let them do this to you. There must be a way to save both you and the station. Is there some way you can help us?"

Lily stared back at him, by now wishing that she could make them understand. Her eyes were wide with fear, and then she turned to Dana, her eyes pleading. She had no knowledge of how to form words with her thoughts, but the woman's contact had not been unpleasant. If she had more, perhaps she could learn.

Paul backed away from the biobed and Tedak and Lily. Lenara and Joanna joined him.
"This is nt helping" Lenara noted, "The math is simple. We can save her of a sort."
"But thats it - it is a sort. What you intend is effectivly downloading her into the computer core."
Joanna ran a hand up his arm reassuringly,
"It seems strange but we dont have many options. It will enable her 'essence' spirirt, what you will live on. Live independantly of the Nebula. Something she can't do know. Without teh nebula she'll die"
"And if the nebula stays here we lose this station, Qualinost becomes uninhabitable, The Tekarans are left homeless and the Debrune become homeless again." Lenara noted cooly, "We really do have very few options"
"Tell that to Tedak" Paul answered,
"But what exactly does he expect. The nebula wont just go on its own."
"Hes a diplomat not a scientist. He looks out for people"
"And thats admirable" Lenara snapped "But its not helping us here. We have less than 15 minutes before our shields fail and we're all irradiated."
Paul paced back in to the corridor and then back into the room.
"I can't just condmen a girl, any lifeform, even one we created even by accident to death."
"Its not death, and you dont have to decide" Lenara replied pointedly.
"No your right" Paul looked at Joanna and then tapped his badge.
=^=Magellan, can you come down here a moment=^=
=^=Of course Ill be right down=^=

It took 5 minutes for Magellan to arrive and another 2 for Paul, Joanna and Lenara to explain things to him. With a grim face Magellan entered the med bay.
"Admiral" Tedak greeted quietly,
"I m sorry Ambassador but I m afraid I must ask you to return to your quarters now."
"I will remain with Lily"
"I m afraid that that is no longer possible"
"No longer possible." the realisation dawned in Tedaks eyes "Oh I see you want me out the way while you kill her. And you think Romulans are barbaric"
"Ambassador. I have a station full of people to think of - 1 hundred thousand people, and thousands more below. I ve been assured it will not kill her, merely transfer her consicousness to the computer core. Quite a risk. If Command new they wouldnt like it a bit- they d want her terminated completely. So take what you can get."
"Never. This girl had rights. Doesnt the Federations vaunted system of rights extend to her?"
"Of course they do. But this is far from a simple matter. I ask you again stand aside and allow me to take her to the computer core. We have only ten minutes before none of this will matter. If need be I will summon security and have you removed."

Tedak drew himself up to his full height and faced the admiral in defiance. "Then you shall have to call security, because I am not leaving her," he said calmly, surprised at the sound of his own voice. He gathered the girl in his arms protectively, and even his firelizards responded to his suppressed anger.

"I will not have you, or anyone else kill her. There has to be another way."

Lily sensed the anger coming from the man who'd been her caretaker ever since she'd been found, then looked at the telepath who had been in her mind. She sensed two different emotions, yet both seemed to want to help her. She was extremely confused and thoroughly despaired at being unable to communicate with them. The two flying creatures seemed in sync with the man's emotions and from what she could tell, they were agitated.

Again, Lily looked at the faces of the people around her. The spotted male looked annoyed, if not angry, the other persons looked angry as well, but also worried. The two women, especially the one with the dark eyes looked worried, but also angry with her caretaker.

By now, she was able to link the people by a single name they were constantly called, and also laid that connection by the single word they kept addressing her with. Thus by now she associated the spotted male with Lin, her pointy eared caretaker with Tedak, and the non-marked male with Drew. Yet one of the women was also designated as Drew, and this confused her profoundly. Two people with the same name was unheard of.

She felt arms being wrapped around her, a gesture she now associated with protection. From this, she knew something was terribly wrong. She looked up, meeting Tedak's gaze and was startled by the amount of anger they expressed. Yet, the anger was directed at the other people, not at her...and it was directed at them for her. ~if only I could talk to them~ she thought desperately ~without destroying their home....I understand them but even the woman does not understand me...why?~

She watched as Lin tapped a shiny item on his chest - ~communication~ she thought - and called for someone. ~what is going on?~ she wondered.

He retreated back to Drew and the others.
"I dont have time for this. I m a little concerned how Lily will react to this but its gotta be done"
"What are ..." Drew began to ask but stopped when he saw Magellan reach into a cabinet and pulled out a phaser. In one fluid movement he turned on his heel and walked towards Tedak.
Tedak rose and placed himself in front of Lily protectively.
"Its not her I m aiming at" Magellan stated raising his arm, "I asked you nicely"
Before Tedak could respond the beam of yellow orange light leapt from the phaser striking him in the chest. Tedak slumped to the floor stunned. Lily screamed and looked down at her would be protector.

K I ve had my Beef Stew followed by Raspberry Yoghurt Yum yum and so on with the story.

IC:

Lily stared at the spotted man. She was unsure what to make of what was going on. She knew 'Tedak' had been kind to her and now he was... inert. She could tell he lived and was reassured.
"Lily" Magellan called softly, he placed the phaser down and walked carefully forward arms out before him. Instinctivly she backed away.
"Don't be afraid. I dont want to but in order to save a lot of people and to give you a chance of survival at least in some form I need you to come with us."
Lily stared back blankly.
Magellan turned to Dana, "Is there any sign she understands?"
"She can hear you and yes I think on some level she understands, I ll try and improve the link." Dana closed her eyes and focused on Lily.
Lily looked up and stared at Dana, a link was obviously formed.
"I... I m not sure I understand" Lily stammered, "I am disparate and alone. I am tired so very tired."
Joanna looked at Lenara,
"Its the energy ebb. She hasnt recharged in awhile shes fading"
"We can help you. We need to disperse the nebula otherwise it will kill us all - do you know what that means"
Lily stared oddly with her head cocked to one side.
"Termination. I saw such records in your...computer"
"Yes you will have seen much about us. You must realise or predicament and that we dont want to do this."
Lily seemed to shrug,
"But...Teeedak"
"Yes I m sorry I had to do that. He is your friend I know but I had to act we have so little time, the shields will fail at any moment." Magellan explained, "You were created by us... by accident and we can save you. You are caught between two worlds, the corporeal and the nebula, you cannot survive for long in either but we have another option."
"Option?"
"Yes. You are mostly energy, electrical energy we can download you in to our computer. Like how you interfaced with the station earlier"
"Earlier. I remember. I was in the ....circuitry, I could read all your .... files. What am I"
Magellan looked round.
"You are you. You are Lily" Paul answered for them, "And we want you to survive, but if we here are to live your body must die. We can offer you life in our computer. Once the nebula and the risk is gone we can find a way to give you a body back."
"I am Lily. I am... I am alone... unique... I miss the charges, I miss purpose.... I .... I ... I will do as you ask..."
"Excellent" Magellan answered "Please come with us." Magellan, Drew Joanna and Lenara left with Lily for teh computer core. On the way out Drew stopped beside Nurse Tsomba,
"Make sure Tedak is made comfortable. He should wake soon. Magellan only used a low stun setting."
"Yes Sir."
They left the nurse bending over Tedak and quickly made there way to the computer core.

Lily followed the two admirals to the transporter room, feeling quite strange on one side but on the other side excited. She was finally getting a purpose, yet she was also afraid. She didn't quite trust the spotted creature who was referred to as "admiral Magellan Lin"who had mercilessly shot Tedak, who only tried to protect her.

However, the telepathic woman had been very open to her, and had given her the ability to express herself, for which she was extremely grateful. But, she wouldn't go through with it without saying goodbye to her friend, just in case. She didn't know if she could communicate with anyone when she was in the computer and she wanted to thank him.

Lily gazed up at Dana, who relayed the message for her to sickbay. Now, all they had to do was wait for the Romulan to arrive.

In sickbay, Tedak moaned as he came around, pressing a hand to his aching ribs as he sat up. Gazing at Tsomba he frowned. "He shot me, didn't he?" he asked unnecessarily.

"Yes," the nurse replied solemnly, "and now that you're awake, you're summoned in the transporterroom. You'd better hurry ambassador."

Tedak needn't to be told twice and was out the door before the nurse had even finished his line. He stormed into the transporterroom and found Lily waiting, standing on the transporter pad. "No!" he shouted, but was restrained by two guards who wrested his arms behind his back.

Lily stepped down and gave him a fierce hug. "Thank you," she said through Dana, "for everything. This is something I have to do, my choice."

When he stopped struggling, the guards let him go, and he reached to return the girl's hug. "You don't have to do this," he managed, as his voice choked.

"Yes I do," Lily let him know, then she let go of him and gazed up at him through tear-stained eyes. "Farewell Tedak." She stepped up on the transporter platform without another word, and nodded at the chief.

"Move," Tedak said roughly, glaring at the chief, "if anyone is going to do this, I am." He shoved the chief aside and quickly familarized himself with the console. "She's mainly energy," he muttered, more for himself than for anyone else, "yet she's also corporal. I need to get her into the pattern buffer and separate the energy part from the corporal part. Before I shunt her energy into the computer, I need to beam back the corporal part."

He was so concentrated on what he was doing, that he was oblivious to the guards having moved up behind him, ready to jump into action. "There, the two essences are separated," he muttered on, as he worked the console. He looked up at the second whine of the transporter and saw Lily's body lying on the platform. "Right, now to gradually shunt her into the computer.......there....now we'll have to hope for the best."

The Romulan looked up and walked forward, and drew himself up before Magellan. "How dare you," he said through clenched teeth, and before the two guards could even prevent it, his right fist connected soundly with Magellan's face, sending him staggering. "That was for shooting me," Tedak said, "and for forcing Lily." He motioned at the body. "I am going to see the body buried on Qualinost," he stated, "as soon as we know if Lily made it into the computer. Until then, I want the body in stasis."
Re: MISSION 2.2 The Nascent
Post by Saarok on 2 Jun, 2005, 9:02pm

Saarok was standing in the background and decided not to interfere while the Admiral was trying to convince Tedak into allowing them to do with Lily what they had to. He knew that this was the admirals base, and he had the last word there, and also it was interesting to observe how to admiral would resolve the situation. He nodded for his guards not to interfere also, and when the admiral shot Tedak. Now this came out as the logical and the only other outcome of this situation and Saarok knew it. As they had very little time left it was the only way out of the situation, and the admiral had every right to do it, as there was much more at risk than Tedak might have realized.

Emotions have clouded his judgment but he was a Romulan so this was not so surprising Saarok thought while this was transpiring. After Nurse Tsomba took Tedak to sickbay, and Dana left with the group to resume and communicate with Lily till they transfer her mind to the computer, Saarok and his guards went to ops to hear what did the science officer find out about what will occur when the nebula begins to disparate.

After arriving there he walked over to the science console, where the science officer and F'Rass were preparing to disperse the nebula on the admirals command. Although not too happy about having another civilian sneaking around the ops, F'Rass informed Saarok of the situation and what exactly will happen with Lily after the nebula is dispersed. Saarok thanked him before he departed for the transporter room, where they were scheduled to transfer Lily "soul" to the computer.

He arrived just in time to see Magellan flying across the floor and two guards grabbing a shouting Tedak by his arms.

"And I want her body to be buried on Qualinost"; he said

"And put into stasis until that is possible", he resumed enraged

"I am afraid that will not be possible"; Saarok said as he walked in

All of the eyes turned to him, including those of Admiral Magellan who was being helped by Paul Drew to his feet, and the eyes of admirals’ friend Lenara who was trying to conceal a smile.

"What, why, what do you mean by that"; Tedak yelled at Saarok

"Calm down, it is not something we can avoid, I have spoken to commander F'Rass up in ops and he has informed me that Lilies body will lose cohesion and disperse into its parts or the nebula to be precise when the nebula is dispersed as the links within it will fail and this will unfortunately cause the same to happen to Lilies body, from the nebula she came and to is she will disperse"; Saarok finished

"Or as humans say, ashes to ashes, dust to dust", he said waiting for a response from the crowd gathered in the room

There seemed to be a lull in the care of the wounded and injured. The medical teams had tended to over three hundred patients. Dr. Mercy and the rest had found out that the Tekarans physiology was a little more immune to radiation. they had only made up of about twenty percent of all patients, of which none had died. Sadly enough, there were eighteen casualties amongst the Debrune.

Stuart Mercy was thinking about the purple mystery girl, Lily. Were they making progress with her? He sure hoped so, for this was becoming a catastrophy.

Magellan pulled himself to his feet, and glared at Tedak.
"As Ambassador you have diplomatic immunity so I can't charge you. I can however have Romulus remove you. So watch your step. That punch I ll let you have for free given the circumstances anymore will cost you."
Magellan turned away from Tedak and tapped his comm-badge.
=^=Okay ops disperse the Nebula=^=

Up top F'Rrass initiated the full polaron burst. It flood out of the station pushing back the nebula, like a torch beam erasing the dark. Slowly the effect spread across the small finger of nebula gas that had engulfed them, splitting it, dividing it forcing it apart until none of it remained.

Down at the transporter room Lilys body pulsed in rhythmn with the polaron bursts and gently faded away in to at first a swirl of nebula gas and then nothing. Tedak stared sadly at the figure disappearing.
"Well that seems t be that" the Cheif replied
"Perhaps" Drew replied cautiously
"Indeed" Magellan answered,
=^=Magellan to Ops. Status.=^=
=^= Radiation levels are returning to normal. The base and personnel seem fine. Dr Mercy is also returning from the surface. He reports a successful mission.=^=
=^= Excellent. Have him meet us in my office on his return. =^=
Magellan turned back to the others,
"Drew, Lenara, Joanna your with me. Guards take Mr Tedak to his quarters he requires rest I m sure."
"Not until I m sure Lily is safe in your..."
"That was not a request Ambassador" Magellan answered uncharacteristically harshly, "For now you will do as I say. File a protest if you like, but for now I want you to...'rest'"
Tedak was not happy but allowed himself to be taken back towards his quarters.

Back in Ops Magellan stopped beside F'rass,
"How are our systems?"
"They seem fine, a little slow but fine"
"Well time to see if our guess was right. F'Raas locate the file where Lilys mind was stored"
F'rass looked down and tapped a few keys. He frowned.
"Its here but empty."
"Empty?" Magellan looked up worriedly, "How"
"I don't know. But the file is present and some of the markers but the algorithims are missing"
=^= Magellan to the Chief. Please confirm the locations of the transfer=^=
The chief answered and confirmed the position.
=^=and there were no transfer problems?=^=
=^= No sir. There was a small energy spike but all with in tolerance.=^=
=^=Understood=^=
Magellan turned to the others a stricken look on his face.
"Shes... gone!. I... I... what have I done"
Lenara came up to stand behind Magellan,
"Steady on Mag, your putting the symbiont before the host a little here. The energy surge could just have displaced her to another part of computer core. I ll begin looking. Perhaps you better go into your office have a drink, I ll get started" She looked up and gave Drew a meaningful look.
"Yes I ll handle Ops, It shouldnt take long for us to locate her. Jo" Drew said with a nod.
"Yes come along Magellan" She led him into the office and over to his desk.
"Lets get searching" Drew suggested,
"I m already on it" Lenara answered
"I will assist too" Saarok offered,
"The more the merrier."

Post by Q2 / Simon Tomlinson on 4 Jun, 2005, 12:03pm

Tomlinson was getting impatient. There was certainly no danger down here, and he was no medic, so couldn't help Dr Mercy in any way. The ambassador had plain refused to allow him to escort her, claiming that if she needed a guard here, then she may as well have one all the time. When Simon had pointed out that ambassador Saarok had two with him all the time, she made some comment about spies, and then moved away.

The south african finally decided that he would take no more of this.

"Dr Mercy. If you have no more need of me, then I would like to get back to the station. I will leave these guards with you in case the need arises for them, but I feel that I would be better placed on the starbase."

The young doctor nodded slowly at him. "Of course." As he spoke, he looked around. There were no more patients, indeed, from the reports coming in, he had completed his task. "We will leave to. There is no more that I can do here."

A few minutes later, they all arrived back on the starbase. As soon as Tomlinson had landed, he was making his way to Ops, hoping that everything had been sorted. As far as he could tell, the place was back to normal. The nebula had receded from the base, and there was no sign of Lily, although he was unsure whether that was a good thing or not.

He stepped around a corner, near now to Ops, but was forced to stop by the presence of another right in front of him. He made a side step, and was about to advance, but he way was blocked once more. He side-stepped again, and again the figure in front of him mimicked his move, preventing his advance. He was getting frustrated, when he felt, before he saw, a hand on his chest. He looked down at it, at the end, slowly running over his uniform, feeling the shapes that defined his muscles. Taking his eyes away from the hand, he looked up at the figure in front of him once more.

"You aren't an easy man to find Commander Tomlinson."

"I have been planetside." The security chief replied, a slight sign of impatience and anger slipping into his voice.

"I'm glad you are back." The girl's voice was melodious and attractive, indeed, the girl was extremely attractive, but Tomlinson knew she was worth more than his job.

"This is not appropriate behaviour Tammy." He spoke, and tried to move past her once more, but again she interecepted him. He knew better than to push past her, and instead he turned on his heels, and walked away. The teenager stood in place, not following him, a slight smile forming on her face.

A few minutes later, Tomlinson had arrived in Ops. He walked over to Admiral Drew. "What is our status sir?"

Tedak glared right back at Magellan but chose to remain silent. A nice dark blue patch was forming around the admiral's eye, including his jaw and it made his spots stand out even more. He didn't regret punching the admiral, especially not after forcing his ward to proceed with a procedure that didn't even guarantee her continued existance.

He allowed the guards to escort him to his quarters, walking between them as they did so. He winced occasionally as he stil felt it where the stun blast had hit him at close range. All the way to his quarters, he didn't acknowledge the presence of the guards, nor did he invite them into his quarters when they reached it.

Once he was inside, he locked the door and walked over to his replicator to order a mug of hot milk. With the mug he walked into his bathroom and let the tub fill with hot water. It was one of the luxuries extended to diplomats aboard the space station. Quietly, he undressed and stepped into the tub, sighing as the warm water engulfed his sore torso.

"Teeeedak," he suddenly heard, startling him. He lost his balance and went under. He resurfaced, sputtering as he looked around.

"Lily?" he called, "Lily talk to me, is that you?" His mood suddenly changed from angry to cheerful. "Honey did you make it into the system?"

There was no vocal response at first, but then the lights in his bathroom flickered, changing from yellow-ish to purplish. "Teeedak," came the soft voice again, "thaank you."

The Romulan diplomat sat up in the tub, clamping his hands down on either side of the tub to keep himself from sliding under again. "I'm glad you made it Lily," he smiled, suddenly feeling a whole lot better, "I really am. But what are you going to do now?"

Lily remained silent for a long moment, as if trying to absorb the information needed to give a proper response. "I don't know," she replied softly, and to Tedak's astonishment, in Rihanssu, "what can I do?"

Tedak pondered on it for a long moment, then decided to call on someone who might be able to help. "Tedak to Mrs Drew, could you please come by my quarters?"

He sighed as he stepped out of the tub, dried himself off and got back into a clean robe. He walked back to the living room to wait for Mrs Drew. "Computer, keep water in tub warm until further notice," he ordered. He'd resume his relaxation after his conversation with Mrs Drew.

OCC:

This is a Drew family post LOL If I ever decide to give the other two kids a large storyline as well, someone shot me hehe

Joanna Drew had just been about to drop in to her quarters when she got Tedak’s call, with a sigh; she zipped back up her uniform over-jacket and changed direction for the Ambassadors quarters.

She wasn’t surprised to see two security officers posted outside the Ambassadors quarters, punching an Admiral was never a good thing to do, especially one who was the station commander. She smiled sweetly at the two officers as she approached, both of them of course remained as still as a statue.

“Can we help you Commander?” the most senior ranked of the two asked.

“I am here to see the Ambassador,” Joanna explained.

“I am sorry sir, but we have orders not to let anyone in,” the security guard said.

Joanna made a point of sighing deeply, then moved her hand to her comm badge, “do you gentleman really want me to call my husband, interrupt whatever important work he is doing, just to tell you two to let me in?”

The two guards exchanged startled glances, before moving past to give Joanna access to the door. Nodding in thanks, Joanna rang the doorbell, thinking how handy it was having an Admiral for a husband as she waited for Tedak to answer.

Meanwhile in Ops…

Paul Drew watched the newly promoted Commander Tomlinson hurry out of the turbo lift door red in the face, and with a guilty look in his eyes, almost as if he had had an encounter he wished to forget. Pretending not to notice Drew continued talking to Nelson about the search for Lily.

A few seconds later, Tomlinson had approached Drew, and was asking for the current status.

“Well,” Drew said, taking a deep breath, “we seem to have lost Lily, but apart from that everything else is back to normal.”

“How could we lose her?” Tomlinson asked, sharing the confusion the rest of the Ops staff had had for the last thirty minutes.

“That’s what we are trying to find out,” Drew said, “but with little success, what’s the situation on the planet?”

<tag Tomlinson>

Back in Tedak’s quarters…

Joanna walked into Tedak’s well-decorated quarters to find the Ambassador already in the main living area waiting for her. He had a strangely excited yet worried at the same time look on his face.

“You wanted to see me Ambassador?” Joanna asked, approaching the Romulan.

“Yes, yes I did,” Tedak said, Joanna, noticed his voice was shaking a little.

“What’s wrong?” Joanna asked, gently moving Tedak to sit on the large leather sofa.

“It’s Lily,” Tedak finally said, “She’s here!”

Both Joanna’s eyebrows shot up in shock, the last she had heard from Ops, Lily was still missing, it seem unlikely that Tedak could have seen her.

“What do you mean, she is here?” Joanna asked slowly.

“What can I do?” a different, softer voice said before Tedak could reply.

“What was that?” Joanna asked quickly, looking around the room.

“It’s Lily,” Tedak said with a smile, “it is as I told you she is here, but she is confused as well.”

Joanna couldn’t believe it, she needed to call Ops, she needed to let Magellan known he hadn’t killed Lily, she needed to do so much. But she realised she also had to help this new life form she had helped create.

“Lily,” Joanna said very softly, looking all around the room, “we are going to help you.”

And down in the Drew’s Family Quarters…

Tammy walked into the large living room with a huge grin on her face, he knew her name! She could hardly believe it, for so long now she had been watching Commander Tomlinson from afar, thinking he didn’t even know she existed, but now she just knew that he felt the same way.

She rushed into her room and pulled out the hidden holo image she had taken of Tomlinson a few days ago, laying on her bed she looked at the photo longingly. Soon she and Tomlinson would be together, and nobody, not even her father would be able to stop them.

Joanna and Tedak waited patiently, while Lily absorbed the notion of 'help'. After a long wait, she replied. "I will need the help. There is so much information....what do I do with it? What can I do with it?" Lily sounded overly confused. "Where am I?"

Tedak exchanged a brief glance with Joanna and behind him, his firelizards chirped. "Lily," he started, running a hand through his still damp hair, "because of the nebula causing grave danger to the station, and because of your connection to the nebula, your consciousness has been transferred to the computer system of this starbase. However, apparently something has gone wrong. We had intended for you to occupy only a part of the computer, but it appears that you have been completely intergrated into the computer system."

"Huh?" Lily replied, then chuckled softly. The longer she remained in the system, the better her language skill and communications skill became. "Now I understand the overload of information." She chuckled again, then her voice became husky. "Thank you," she said softly, "please, don't blame them. They only thought what was best, though I think it was very gallant of you."

Tedak noticed Joanna's sharp stare at the mention of the word 'gallant'. "What was so gallant?" she demanded.

By now, Lily was laughing. "He punched the spotty one," she laughed, "on my behalf. Teeedak thought I was in danger, and he wanted to protect me."

Tedak blushed, and was glad that because of his green teint, Joanna wouldn't notice immediately. "At the moment, it was the right thing to do for me. It was a risky procedure, and never done before. I believed they were going to kill her."

At last he tapped his combadge. "Tedak to Admirals Lin and Drew, there is something in my quarters that you should come see and hear." He cast a smile at Joanna. "Don't tell them yet," he whispered, "let's let Lily play with them a little...it's only fair."

Then he frowned as Sev chirped. "Oh never mind, he probably already knows," he said sadly, "sometimes having firelizards for a pet can be a pain in the backside. They're real gossips, so it is likely Magellan knows via his own bronze."

--Somewhere over the rainbow, Section 47 Space, Starbase Assailant, Operations Center--

Saarok and more than 5 other officers were in the process of attempting to locate the conciseness of "Lily" the being that was created by accident out of a cloud of nebula gas, but has somehow managed to become intelligent, and now was somewhere inside the computer core. But no matter how much the group tried to find her they were not successful, but then all of a sudden Saaroks firelizard queen sent him a thought, and moments after that a call came from Ambassador Tedak's quarters for Admirals Lin and Drew to come.

Most intriguing. Saarok thought as he went over to Admiral Drew and informed him that he would like to come along to visit mr. Tedak. To which Drew had nothing against. After everyone was ready, Magellan led the way towards the turbolift, followed by his firelizard, Drew, Saarok, his two firelizards and his two security guards.

As they entered the lift, they didn’t speak much except they brought up the subject of how Lily ended up where she is now, when she was meant to be only inside of a part of the computer. But seeing as this kind of procedure wasn't done everyday, they agreed that it was not possible to see everything that could have gone wrong.

After the lift came to a stop the group went out and proceeded towards the door of ambassador Tedak's quarters. Magellan nodded the guards and the group after chiming entered the ambassadors quarters.

Dr. Stuart Mercy had returned to the station, along with the rest of the Emergency Planetary Support Team. Their mission accomplished and the Nebula seemed to be subsiding from the lower atmosphere of the planet.

The images of suffering were going through Stuart’s mind. He hadn’t seen such suffering at this scale since he had been an EMT in San Francisco. In fact, it was only one other time where he was involved in a mass casualty rescue. A large transporter, one of the many city conveyances for transporting beings around, had a major engine malfunction. It had plummeted from the skyway some two hundred feet. There had been sixty-eight people onboard of which only fifteen survived.

He was thankful to the stars that the suffering on Qualinost may have been vast, many had been healed and saved. A disaster was averted, unlike the transporter accident on Earth. Stuart went to the infirmary to clear his mind. The supplies would need to be restocked and Nurse Tsomba could fill him in on the happenings on the station. Stuart wondered what lily’s status was, if she was alright.

Nurse T Somba quickly explained events aboard Assailant to Stuart,
"It seems you ve had as much drama up here as we did down there. And what of Lily now?"
"Im not sure. Last I heard she'd been lost somewhere in the computer core."
"hmm perhaps we can help. I m sure there will be some kind of bio signature in the relays. We may be able to track her down. I ll be in Ops."

Stuart made his way up the station to the bases nerev centre. Admiral Drew was on duty with a trill woman - Magellans guest beside him.
"Sir. I understand theres a problem."
"Ah Dr Mercy. Yes we seem to have lost Lily in teh computer core. I assume you know what happened."
"I ve heard" Stuart nodded, "Perhaps I can help."
"How?"
"Lily had a unique bio electric signal, call it a representationof her brainwaves. It identifies her, I believe that what ever form she took in teh computer will mirror that signature in some way."
"Your right." Lenara agreed, "What an interesting idea, assist me doctor."
Stuart joined Dr Kahn at the science terminal as Magellan emerged from his office. He was deathly white.
"Any news?"
Drew looked up,
"Not yet but we have a lead..."
=^= Joanna to Paul=^=
=^= Jo?=^=
=^=We ve found Lily. Or rather lily found Tedak. Shes talking through the comm to us in Tedaks quarters.=^=
=^= Excellent news. I ll see what we can do=^=
Magellan seemed to brighten,
"Thank the pools for that. Shes still alive. Now we can find away to give her her life back"
"Of a sort" Lenara noted turning in her chair,
"What do you mean?" Magellan asked,
"Dr Mercys idea and Joannas location has enabled us to locate Lily."
"And whats wrong with that if we know what file shes in we can..."
"Thats the point shes not in A file, shes in ALL the files. She is completely and irreversibly integrated with our computer system. She has replaced our limited AI network and controls... well everything"
Magellan exchanged looks with Drew.
"Is that... safe"
"Essentially, consider it a merger, our computer protocols merged with her identity. Basically our computer now has Lilys personality."
Stuart looked up,
"Congratulations you have Starfleets first Sentient Computer System."
"And systems are not compromised?" Drew checked
"No not at all, everythings working as it should be."
MAgellan looked out the viewscreen,
"In that case we leave her alone. Shes been through enough and if shes happy she can stay."

TAG EVERYONE LOL

OOC: Okay this is a wrapping post to begin to tie up the mission. Everyone can now make a post for their character to round up their place in the mission and set up and mini plot threads for the next one which may begin as early as the weekend unless anyone has any objections.

With things starting to return to normal Magellan began to feel as if he could breath easy once more.
It seemed as if Assailant was one crisis after another and each took their toll. In the past year he nearly been killed several times, the base been on evac orders twice, they'd rediscovered a new race and he'd dueled with his nemesis Kavek. He shuddered to think how others were dealing with all that had happened to them.
He looked around him at the people in Ops, He was pleased to note that Joanna and Paul seemed as close as ever despite there enforced seperation by pauls double. Breifly his thoughts strayed to Tedak. There was a man he found hard to get on with. Admittedly Tedak wasnt your average Romulan but he had always find it hard to trust someone from that empire. They had been starting to get along up until Magellan had clashed with him over Lily. The declicate working rapport they had built up was likely in tatters.
He sighed deeply, in many ways he longed for the simpler life aboard the Victory, but that was just the glint of rose tinted glasses, things on a starship were just as hectic as aboard the Starbase.
He was surprised however at how cold and hard he had become when dealing with Tedak in the end. It was a side to him he hadnt seen before. Another little niggle that he had notcied in the past six months, knowinbg languages he didn t know he'd learned, stray memorys, mood swings. He would need to see Dr Mercy.
Lenara came round and touched his arm,
"You ok Mag?"
"Oh yes, just tired I guess" he replied to his mentor.
"Your getting tired a lot arent you at the moment"
"Yes. But..."
"Odd thoughts, new... abilities"
"Yes and Yes, how did you know?"
"Its why I m here. I was forbidden when still in the commission but now I m not I needed to check on you."
"Check on me"
Lenara drew him over to a corner away from the others.
"Yes. I was concerned it may have more of an effect especially given the troubles you have with your symbiont."
"What Lenara? Whats wrong with me?"
"Its not you its Lin. Magellan your not his second host, your his fifth"

Cut to Magellan looking dumbfounded

Her assignment did not go as smoothly as she had imagined, but it could have been worse. She found the Debrune leader Jak'dor to be just as difficult as he was described to her. Not only was completely disorderly from her viewpoint, but he tended to look down upon her thinking that she was far too young for the job.

"What's this?" he said, as she remembered her first encounter as she was attempting to organize the medical relief. She watched his scrutinizing gaze go over her and felt very uncomfortable. "A child? How can you possibly be the liaison officer?"

"I am, sir," she replied keeping her voice under control. "And I can assure you that I am fully qualified for this position."

"Humph...we shall see."

The rescue effort went very well and supplies were able to get to where they were needed. From a diplomatic standpoint, things were a big success, but personally things were not. Jak'Dor still did not seemed convinced that she was capable and she was determined to prove that she was and to gain his trust...
