MISSION 2.1 REFLECTIONS - Mission Thread
Post by Magellan Lin on Jan 8th, 2005, 9:27pm

Life aboard a starbase could hardly be considered dull. In fact for most on Assailant it was pretty much the antithesis of dull. Every day thousands went about there business unawares of the perils that they were under. Only the select few, those in Ops, or the diplomatic offices knew the full horrors that sometimes threatened the simple tranquility of deep space.
Hanging like a vast colonial mushroom, Assailant above the rusty surface of Qualinost emerged from the shadow of the planet out into the bright rays that for those planetside would be a new day. On board might and day were relative terms. Sensors connected to the station systems tripped the corridor lights bringing them up from the dim half light of night time to the full glow of daylight. All across the station beds were made and breakfasts prepared. Up in Ops, the night watch - Gamma was replaced by Alpha. A refreshed Magellan strode into his office and began to check his messages.

Things were, despite the virgin newness of the day, still somewhat of a mess. The pirate attacks whilst reduced had not stopped completely and the hunt for Sonev was still on going, the man seemed to have vanished. He called for Jibb to be brought to him.
It took about half an hour to find the courier and another hour for him to reach the Admirals office.
"Ah Jibb" Magellan greeted,
Jibb nodded and grasped the admirals outstretched hand ignoring the way the trill seemed unable to use anything but his last name.
"I wanted to up date you on the search for Sonev."
"I see" Jibb replied taking the profered seat.
"I m not sure how your own investigations have been going but so far we have turned up nothing."
"I m afraid to say that is the same for me."
"Its been two days, we ve searched where we can. I cant keep the station locked down any longer. As of 10am today the station will be open for business once more. I understand you want to catch the man, but on a scale of galactic crime, trying to steal your ship is pretty low, and you may consider that you owe him for helping you escape"
"You condone his actions?"
Magellan smiled a sickly false smile,
"Thats not what I said. I can give you one piece of information though”
“Yes?”
“I ve pulled a few strings and circulated his description, Sonev is not a registered operative of Starfleet Intelligence, of course it could be lies, but it looks as if Sonev wasn’t aboard the Avenger for the reasons he stated.”
“Well thankyou Admiral for your help. And I hope you don’t mind if I keep on at this in my spare time”
“No not at all, but I expect as soon as the lockdown ends he’ll be gone.”
“We’ll see. Good Day”
Magellan watched Jibb leave noting once more what a remarkable person he was, as with most of the staff on Assailant he had a hidden side, perhaps something even dark to him. He mused a moment on his own revelations, his own secrets… his awakening.

At 9 am Magellan was seated in the main conference room. He sat fumbling with a collection of PADDS waiting for the senior staff to arrive. It was teh daily briefing and there was much to go on.
He scanned through situation reports and the like. He noted that T'Val had been spending a lot of time planetside with teh Debrune, no doubt something to do with the child. The first Debrune colonists would arrive in a matter of days, 6000 to start with, with another 10000 to follow, nearly all that still remained of the race. There was a report from Dr Sharex that stated that Jak'Dor had finally allowed him access to the reactor to begin the Gaia Process.
As Magellan waited for his staff he noted wryly that Saarok was probably doing the same thing in teh diplomatic offices, with the arrival of Jatira, and the New Fabrinis the Federation Delegation was much larger and needed greater control.
F'Rass entered his fur slicked back and sour expression, was the man never happy?
"Commander."
"Sir. First here?"
"Yes Fr'ass you always are, I guess thats why you look after traffic control."
The Regulan nodded and took his seat.

Tomlinson yawned as he woke up, and looked at the time, which was projected onto the ceiling. The clock had been a gift from an ex-girlfriend, and had been the best thing he had got out of any of them. The red digits on the roof were slightly unfamiliar. He waited until they came into focus, and then realised why. He was running half an hour late, meaning he had the meeting with the rest of the senior staff in about 30 seconds. He groaned, and swung his legs off the bed.

A couple of minutes later, he was fully dressed and walking quickly through the ship. When he was halfway there, his assistant intercepted him, and kept pave beside him.

"You got that meeting now boss?"

"Yeah, he always insists on holding them early. Anything going on around the station this morning?"

"Just the usual you know. A few petty thefts, a minor assault, nothing out of the ordinary."

"Good, let's hope it stays like that." He smiled, turning off, and entering the briefing room. He noticed that he wasn't the only one who was late. Fr'ass was the only one there, apart from the Admiral, and the pair of them were always the first two, so he didn't have much to bother about.

"I hope you're not going to put the station at risk Admiral."

"I'd never do that."

Several hours have passed since Saarok was hit in the head by an energy discharge. During that time no one stopped by his office as they assumed logically that he was not here but in fact he was. In the meantime the man that shot him had already collected his payment and was ready to depart from SB Assailant as soon as it was open for traffic again.

Saarok was slowly coming ‘round. His head hurt badly. He looked around the room and raised an eyebrow. But said nothing he slowly got up from the floor and up to his feet. He looked around the room once more, and yet he could not remember where he was.

“Odd”, he thought

=/\=Computer what is my current location? =/\=

=/\=You are in the office of Ambassador Saarok=/\=

The computer responded.

Ambassador Saarok, he thought, odd I do not remember coming to see an ambassador Saarok, as a matter of fact I do not remember who I am.

=/\=Computer who am I? =/\=

=/\=You are ambassador Saarok, chief diplomat for the united federation of planets on SB Assailant. =/\=

Me, ambassador Saarok, it would be logical to assume that I am the man the computer speaks of, but why don’t I remember that?

=/\=Computer show me the way to sickbay=/\=

=/\=Follow the lights on the consoles=/\=

The reply came. As Saarok proceeded out of his office and proceeded to follow the lights displayed on the console on the walls of the star base. After a longer walk and a ride he arrived to the sickbay. As there did not appear to be anyone inside, Saarok asked the computer about a doctor and was able to activate the emergency medical hologram.

“Please state the nature of the medical emergency”, the doctor said as he took a tricoder

“I appear to suffer from a memory loss”

“I see”, the doctor said as he began scanning him, “any previous illnesses?”, he asked

“I do not remember”, Saarok said

“Hmm, this is interesting it appears you have suffered a strong electrical discharge to your head which caused the electrochemical memory pathway in your head to disperse, which is the cause to your memory loss”; the doctor said

“However your skills appear to be unaffected, only the memory of past events has been disrupted, which is quite strange, it appears as if someone erased only parts of your memory on purpose”, the doctor concluded after he was done with the scan

Saarok stood for a moment he could not remember who he was, not who would find him a threat, he couldn’t even remember his access code for his personal quarters not to mention for anything else.

“Is there a way for you to restore those links?”, Saarok asked

“I’m afraid not, but with your Vulcan physiology I would estimate that you will be able to get your memory back part by part in time, and in time you will most likely have your complete memory back, you were lucky it could have ended much, much worse”, the doctor said

“When will I get my memory back?”

“I do not know it will take time, and different parts could be triggered by familiar places, and people.”, the doctor finished

“Do you know who is in command of this Star Base?”, he asked

“Of course, Admiral Magellan Lin”, the doctor responded

“Thank you doctor”, Saarok said as he left sickbay

“He noticed some odd creatures flying around him and sending him some mental images he could not percept, he did not know why they did not bother him he even felt he had seen them before but he could not remember from where nor how.

After a long walk around the station in an attempt to remember something which failed, he returned to his office and attempted to retrieve some data on himself but found it all classified except what the computer already told him, and there did not appear to be any files on his current work.

Off: Before Magellan has his staff meeting

He decided it was time to contact the admiral and speak to him. After again asking the directions from the computer he found his way to the office of Admiral Magellan. And chimed, he heard enter from the admiral as he entered the office.

“Admiral, I hope I am not disturbing you “, Saarok asked

<Magellan>

After the initial greeting Saarok began to tell Admiral Magellan all that happened including that he could not find any files on his computer and that he does not remember anything not even his access codes.

"Ah, quite a problem. And I gather you dont even recall me."

"No"

"I see. Well for now I think your best bet is to remain in Sickbay - I will get Healer T'Val come and give you a second opnion. I suggest you rest and try and slowly reacquaint yourself with your surroundings. Start with your quarters and then have someone show you your office. Small steps. Zoilip here will escort you to T'Vals"

Magellan ushered Saarok out and after informing Zoilip headed to his meeting.

Richard Jibb walked out of Magellan's office and started walking back to his quarters on Assailant. It had been a very frustrating time. He had been requested to keep an eye on Drolem Simeth, and he had been trying to track down Sonev as well.

However, Mayor Simeth seemed to spend most of his time in his office, or going about official duties. The only unusual happening was a visit from Saarok, a fate Jibb wouldn't wish on anyone. If Simeth were up to something, it looked like he had been tipped off already.

Sonev was even more elusive. Contrary to what he had told Magellan, Richard thought that he might have occasionally been able to get close to the supposed Starfleet operative. Richard had talked to a few people on the station who seemed to remember Sonev, but further checking always lead to a dead end. It was almost like Sonev knew he was getting close and slipped away, playing with him.

Magellan's news that he was going to reopen the station to shipping had made Richard depressed. Assuming Sonev was still on the station, which was unlikely, he could easily slip out during the mass movement that would begin as soon as ships started moving in and out of Assailant.

On the other hand, there was an increased security presence at all entry and exit access points and they all had Sonev's description so he might still be caught. However, bolting at the first opportunity was the mistake of an amateur, and Sonev seemed to be anything but that.

The door to his quarters slid open. Richard walked in, sat down at his desk and checked the time. 9:17. 43 minutes till the port was opened. Accessing his computer, Richard took a look at the scans that his holographic doctor had managed to take of Sonev aboard the Wanderer. It was really the only proof he had that Sonev even existed.

Human male, 1.8 meters tall. Excellent health. No implants. That described approximately 10000 people aboard Assailant. There was nothing else to go on.

Lacking anything better to do, Richard picked up some gear and headed out. It was time to get back to keeping an eye on Drolem Simeth.

"I advise you to be more careful in the future Mister Duvall," T'Val told her patient, as she closed her medical tricorder. "You may want to try to climb trees that are less tall and have thicker branches next time," she added.

Duvall chuckled; as if that was ever going to happen. "Yes doctor, thank you doctor," he said dutifully, and left sickbay as he pulled his tunic over his head and thrust his arms into the sleeves. "Until next time doctor," he whispered.

T'Val put her tricorder away and went to tend to other patients. She looked up when she heard her name being called. To her surprise, she saw Magellan's aide Zoillip enter sickbay, leading Ambassador Saarok to one of the biobeds.

"Something is wrong with him doctor," the aide called, "he's been babbling all the way up here. He cannot remember who or what he is. He will not even pay attention to these flying creatures of his!"

"Leave him on the bio bed Mr Zoillip, I will have a look at him in a moment. Thank you."

The aide bowed lightly and turned to leave sickbay.

T'Val sighed and picked up the tricorder again. "Well Mr Saarok," she started, "you seem to have gotten yourself in quite some trouble again." She gazed at the golden firelizard who sat hissing at her on Saarok's shoulder. "Oh be quiet you," she told the creature, "can you not see I am trying to take care of him?"

She pointed at a diagnostic board. "There take up a perch there, until I can be certain what is wrong with him." Both the blue and the gold took up perch where she pointed, but neither let her out of their field of vision and neither ceased hissing at her.

T'Val turned back to Saarok. "Mr Saarok," she started again, "do tell me what has happened? I would rather not mind meld with you in this state, as it is dangerous to both of us." She ran the tricorder over him. "You were hit by some kind of energy weapon, and by the looks of these readings I assume your system took quite a jolt. What do you remember so far?"

“The time is 0800 hours,” the crisp cool voice of the computer announced throughout Paul and Joanna Drew’s sleeping chamber, the room was still in darkness, and the only reply the computer got was the groans of an Admiral trying to wake up.

“Computer, lights, full intensity,” Joanna said, as she slipped out of bed and wrapped herself in her dressing gown, again Drew groaned as the bright lights further ruined his sleep.

“Get up lazy,” Joanna commanded; pulling the covers off her husband, “You have a meeting in under an hour.”

Knowing he had lost the battle, and in regards to his wife, the war, Drew pulled himself up out of bed, “I am up, I am up,” he told his wife, as he saw her approach with a glass of ice cold water.

“Good,” Joanna replied, lending forward and kissing her husband, “now go to work.”

“Some wives like to have their husbands home all the time,” Drew complained as he entered the sonic shower.

“I already have three children to look after,” Joanna retorted, “I don’t need a fourth.”

“I don’t know,” Drew, answered, with a smile, as he stepped out the bathroom, zipping up his uniform jacket, “Having a fourth could be fun.”

The response was a pillow thrown in his face, closely followed by a “dream on space-boy.”

Some toast, and a cup of tea later, Drew was on his way to the briefing room, nodding politely at the officers he passed, he had been on Assistant a few months now, and was finally starting to recognise most of the station personnel on sight. On his ship’s, Drew had prided himself on knowing each crewmember, but a ship’s crew was only a few hundred, a thousand a most, Starbases had a lot more.

Entering the briefing room, he found many of the department heads had already gathered, seconds after the door closed behind Drew, it again opened to admit Commander Abren, the Strategic Operations Officer.

“Welcome Admiral, Commander,” Magellan greeted them both from the head of the table, “please take your seats.”

“Good Morning, if everyones got their coffees and raktajinos, we’ll begin”
There was a general murmur of assent and Magellan pressed on.
“Okay first off the Maintenance Schedule. Lieutenant can you focus on Decks 36 and 122, I ve had a few complaints about fluctuating EPS conduits.”
Alari nodded making a note on his PADD.
“Abren, the Debrune colonists will be here soon, they will be arriving on two colony ships, the USS Roamer and USS T’sol. You need to liase with headquarters to arrange security. Escort duty will be ours the minute they enter our system. Tomlinson I want you to provide that escort cover. Which leads me to the next point. I ve put into command for a wing of Federation Fighters. Given our recent problems with pirates I feel a number of small combat vessels maybe necessary. Lieutenant Tomlinson is Flight Rated so will head up pilot selection and liaison for the time being. F’Rass anything we need to know?”
The Regulan licked a paw and smoothed his fur before informing the crew that they were expecting 16 starships during the day, 10 trade vessels of various races, a Vulcan science ship, a tholian nest ship, 4 Federation Vessels and a Niberite Cruiser.
“Thank you Commander. Now I have some disturbing news, it appears Ambassador Saarok has lost his memory, we are unsure yet if it was a hostile act so I wont you to keep an eye on it Tomlinson, until then Ambassador Jatira of New Fabrini will be the bases senior Federation Diplomat.” Magellan paused to take a sip of his drink
“Moving on We’ve been asked by Command to do some research on the Nebula, I felt a preliminary survey would help and so I would like the base science team to take out the Copenhagen and take a few scans. Now I’m not happy with leaving the ship in the care of the scientists so I m putting Admiral Drew in Command. I think I can trust you to bring her back in one piece”
“That you can” Drew nodded and then with a wry smile added “There have been far fewer ships named Fang than there have been Victory”
Magellan grinned back
“Indeed there have and you can blame Locutis for that not me, if he could trash a ship in the course of a mission he would”
“Ah the good old days”
“Indeed, I’ll leave bridge crew selection to you and you might consider inviting some of the diplomats, give ‘em a ride outside to brighten their dull days”
“Keep ‘em out of your way you mean”
“Yes but that doesn’t leave this room” Magellan grinned, “Okay last on the agenda is the Security report, any update on the search for Sonev?”

<Tomlinson>

With all departments briefed Magellan closed the meeting and let them all get on with their jobs. He himself had to go and inform Jatira of her new status. He walked briskly down to the Federation Embassy and waited politely in the reception while an office worker buzzed Jatira to let her know he was there…

Tomlinson had smiled at the mention of the fighter wing. He had already known about it, but it was nice to her it mentioned in some official capacity. In fact, he knew that the wing had been approved, and was being flown in within the week, the main thing holding it back at the moment was the choice of pilots, something that Tomlinson was still pondering over. Having checked on the transport's arrivals dates, he knew it was something he would have to hurry up to make sure that they fighter's beat the tranpsorts to the station, otherwise the escort in would be very sparce, a few shuttles at best; not much to take pirates on with.

"Sonev. No, he seems to be on of those that has disappeared. As you all know, this starbase is nearly 50 cubic kilometres. Even with my whole security team searching, it would take months to find him, and that's if he doesn't manage to gain access to transporters and beam to part of the station we have already checked. I doubt we will ever find him again. I'll have a talk with some of the less reputable people on the station and see if they know anything, but most of them bolt on seeing me, let alone letting me get close enough for a chat. So no, nothing to report on that front. On a side note though, crime rates are up 15% since the incident with the reactor, I can't see any reason for it, but we are trying to drop them back down again."

After he had given his report, Tomlinson looked back at Magellan, who said a few more words, and then brought the meeting to a close. The security officer stifled a yawn, and then started the walk through the station to his office, where he would get to work on the pilot choice once more.

Leaving the meeting, Drew headed for Ops, part of his daily duties was to ensure that all system operations were functionally properly, and assign repair/maintenance teams as required. Drew also had to check through the requests from any ship’s docked at the base, and arrange the maintenance schedule for each ship. That task also often involved arguing with countless Captain’s about their ship’s not having high enough priority, or the Captain wanting something extra for his ship. After working his way though all that, Drew was then required to deal with the various reports and such he received from Starfleet Command. Although command of Assailant, and all Section 47 Operation’s in the area was Magellan’s, Drew was still an Admiral, and even out on deep space, Admiral’s couldn’t escape all the bureaucracy of Starfleet Command. Officially apart of Starfleet Command Operations, Drew was often required to review new ship designs, and in some cases, provide the shipyards with new design specifications.

Once all that was done, and providing nothing unexpected happened, which was always expected on Assailant, Drew would then be free to deal with anything else that might pop up. And after he had completed all of today’s work, Drew would be going down to inspect the Copenhagen, and approve her mission ready. It had been some years since Drew had commanded a Starship, and he had to admit, he was looking forward to stepping onto that bridge for the first time. Of course, Drew also had to find various Ambassadors on the station, and formally invite onto the mission as observers, the exploration of this area was to be as important as the colonisation project going on, and so it seemed logical to continue the spirit of co-operation Assaliant had between the galactic powers.

Calling up onto his screen, the first of his repair logs, Drew started to count down the hours until he could escape to the small ship in the docking port.

<not sure if I was supposed to be at the meeting....so I'll move past that>

Tedak walked up to Drew's office, after he was sure the meeting was over. The Romulan diplomat avoided meetings, especially Starfleet ones, as much as was possible. His private shuttle still needed repairs, and he had planned to tale T'Val and D'Beren on a little vacation soon, if time allowed; or at least for a little tour around the system.

"Admiral, a moment of your time please," The Romulan called after the admiral, who quickly disappeared into his office. "Admiral, might I enquire after the status of repairs on my shuttle? I am planning a little break for me and my family and I will need my vessel for that."

In the air, the two firelizards performd their usual aeairial antics, before settling on Drew's desk, peering at the human intently.

"Leave him alone," Tedak told the duo, "go to T'Val. I need a moment of privacy with the admiral. Do not inform T'Val of my location."

The duo chirped and winked out. "There, that is better. Sometimes, firelizards can be a real nuicance, especially when you like some privacy."

Richard sat quietly in The Forge. It was a little restaurant on Deck 79, and it's only claim to fame was that nothing ever happpened there. He had been spending some time here recently, trying to stay out of everyone's eye.

Richard had been in the centre of the action far too many times recently, and was getting concerned that his anonymity on the station would be compromised. It would be harder to gather information when the people who had it ran if he walked into the room. Richard had been sitting quietly in a place not long ago when that Security character Tomlinson walked in. The courier had rarely seen a place clear out so fast.

Richard returned to his meal and thought about the two problems he had on his plate right now. Drolem Simeth and Palan Sonev. Both were at a standstill right now. Sonev was invisible, and Simeth was being the best little mayor that he could be right now. If Simeth was up to anything, he had taken a break.

On the other hand, Richard had heard that Simeth wasn't necessarily a good little mayor. There were some rumours that he was somehow mixed up with the pirates that were in the area. And Richard had seen first hand that those pirates had some kind of informant inside the station. The mayor did have some access to inside information, and would know who to talk to to get other information.

Richard started idly drawing designs in his dinner. Simeth was a carrot in the middle of his plate. He moved pile of mashed potatoes underneath the carrot, which represented whatever network of informants that Simeth probably had. Then he place a chunk of steak above the carrot for the pirates and sat back. Information flowed to Simeth, and it went out to the pirates. Money flowed from the pirates to Simeth, who distributed some to informants. It was a classic pattern, but Richard wasn't happy with it.

Richard had known a fair number of pirates over his years in the backwaters of known space, and one thing they didn't do very well was cooperate, unless they were very organized. That didn't seem to be the case around Assailant. Richard quickly ate the rest of the steak and replaced it with a long green bean. That was more like it. Simeth gives his information to one pirate group.

Richard still wasn't happy. It was obvious there were several pirate groups operating in and around the nebula. He dropped several more beans into his configuration, all pointing accusingly at the Simeth carrot. That was more like it. Simeth was working with more than one group, feeding them information for money, or whatever it was the Mayor was asking for in return.

Richard shook his head and wondered if this was the way the Mayor had wanted things to go. If this was even remotely close to what was going on, Simeth was walking a narrow line. Pirates weren't forgiving by nature, and Starfleet Security didn't have much of a sense of humour when it came to informants.

"You know, my seven year old plays with his food less than you do" a raspy voice declared. Richard looked up to see Triv Darcal, the owner, standing over him. Richard secretly suspected that nothing ever happened here as no one liked being near this human. Without speaking, Richard pushed his plate over and the man picked it up and walked away.

What Richard needed was information and he couldn't find any. If Simeth had informants on the station, they weren't talking, and he couldn't question the pirates. However, the Mayor had to contact them somehow.

Deciding on his next step, Richard paid his bill and started making his way to the Federation Diplomatic offices.

"Ah Admiral Ambassador Jatira Can see you now" The receptionist answered looking up from her desk.
"Thankyou" Magellan smiled.
He walked round the desk and in to a good sized and well decorated office.
"Ambassador" he smiled extending a hand
"Admiral, please" she answered taking the hand and offering him a seat.
"A nice place you have here"

<Jatira>

"Well its lovely especially given the short time that youve been here. What I really came here to tell you concerns Saarok."

<jatira>

"It seems Saarok has lost his memory."

<Jatira>

"We are unsure if its permanent or not, or even if it was a malicious act or an accident. Nevertheless it has left Saarok in an unfit state to run the Embassy. I need you to fill in."

<Jatira>

"Well think it over, I ll help as best I can. You maybe interested to know Admiral Drew is taking the Copenhagen out for a spin in to the Nebula, he d be more than happy for you to accompany him."

Err Tag Jatira LOL

Jatira was busy at work with the preparations for the arrival of the colonists. Everyone had been busy that week getting security ready and all of those necessary little details for such an event.

She was especially busy herself with paperwork and did not immediately realize when the Admiral stepped through her door. When she looked up, she stood up quickly and offered him a seat, wondering why he was visiting.

Her smile disappeared when she saw the serious look on the Admiral's face. Whatever it was about Ambassador Saarok, it wasn't very good. She asked the first thing that popped into her head. "Is there something wrong with the Ambassodor? Is he not well?"

She frowned again. Yes, the Ambassor was not well and it was even worse than she had imagined. She began to suspect why the Admiral came to her. Obviously with Saarok's injury (which she assumed was the cause), he would be unable to fullfill his duties as Ambassodor and the Admiral probably wanted her to help fill this gap. The Admiral then continued:

"Understood, sir," she nodded, expecting this response. I am certain that you are aware that my experience is very limited, but I am willing to do what I can," she said firmly. The Admiral's words rang through her head, malicious act or an accident. She hoped that it wasn't the former, because she disliked the idea of such a person loose on board the station. After setting his dispute with Admiral Drew, Tedak's attention shifted to a meeting earlier, one he had not been present at. "I heard you are taking the Copenhagen out," he commented, "would it be possible for me to attend the mission you are taking her on? I am sure T'Val will agree that her business with the Debrune, and my duties come before going on a little vacation."

< Drew >

"Well, that's settled then, thank you admiral."

< Drew >

After waiting patiently for Drew to finish, Tedak went to see his wife in sickbay. He found her feeding their son, and he walked up to them. "My wife," he said formally, holding out two fingers to her, "are you well?"

T'Val looked up, surprised to see such formality from her husband. Then she remembered they were in a public place and they had agreed to Vulcan customs in public places upon marriage. She reached out and briefly touched his outstretched fingers with two of her own. "My husband," she replied, "yes I am well. D'Beren is doing well also." She stood and placed the toddler into his crib. "Walk with me," she continued, and led him to a bed that had Saarok lying on it.

"He came in with memory loss," she explained, "he barely remembers who and where he is. His firelizards are in a frenzy, Nut and Sev communicate anxiousness and fright. Especially the golden one is distressed and she will not let me near Saarok."

Tedak nodded and held out his hand. "Aeris," he called, but the Queen did not respond. "Nut, do please ask her to come to me," he instructed his own brown. THe brown firelizard chirped and reluctantly the golden female came to his hand. "Aeris, we worry for your friend. You must let T'Val near, will you let us near? We promise we will try to help him."

The gold crooned anxiously but did nothing to stop them when they approached Saarok. Tedak shook him gently. "Saarok, wake up."

The Vulcan ambassador opened his eyes and sat up, looking rather dazed. "Where am I?"

"Sickbay," Tedak replied, "my friend, I believe it is time that I repay a favour you've done me. Give me your hand, but you must assist me. Do you remember how to perform a mind-meld? If not, T'Val will assist us."

Saarok looked at him questioningly. "Who are you?"

"I am Tedak," the Romulan replied, "T'Val please assist."

T'Val moved forward, and placed her right hand on Saarok's temple, while placing her left on Tedak's. The three of them stood motionless for a moment, after which T'Val released them.

"Thank you my wife," Tedak said softly, then turned to Saarok. "Do you remember now?"

"Hmm, going off for a spin to the Nebula? Sounds interesting and perhaps a nice change from my usual work," she smiled. "May I ask why Admiral Drew wishes for me to accompany him?"

Magellan smiled, abundantly aware that Jatira was certainly more one of the more astute Ambassadors aboard.

"Its not so much a case of wish, more a courtesy. Ambassadors Tedak and Kaskrene, in fact all the diplomats will be invited. Consider it a day out. A low risk mission upon which you can interact with the other delegates."
"I see, anything more?"
Magellan smiled again, an unerringly odd grin, one that spoke of someone whose hand had been caught in the cookie jar.
"Well." he paused "I m a Starfleet Admiral, I can't directly request anything of an Ambassador, but it would be very interesting to find out the Romulan Star Empires unoffical stance on the Debrune returning to this sector. Oh I know they deny they are debrune, that it means very little, but I suspect many do in fact listen to Tedak reports, and he for one is better placed than most to know the Debrune for what they are."
"Are you asking me to spy on Ambassador Tedak"
"Great Pools No!" Magellan exclaimed, "BUt if the conversation happens to turn that way then... I ll leave it up to you. Good day Ambassador."
"Admiral."

Richard walked into the Federation Diplomatic receiving area and looked around. There was a human female sitting behind the main desk, who was looking at him expectantly. Richard strode up to her and said "I need an office that has access to the Starbase Main Computer."

She nodded quickly and pressed a button on the desk and spoke briefly into the comm. After a minute, a young human walked out and escorted Richard to a small office with a nice open viewport showing Qualinost. Richard watched the man leave, then sat behind the desk and activated the console. "Connect to main Assailant Main Computer. Authorization Ambassador Richard Jibb, Delta Epsilon 4 Blue 5 9."

"Working...Complete" the computer replied.

"Show me all comm traffic in and out of Starbase Assailant for the last two weeks" Richard ordered.

"Your authorization does not allow you to view Starfleet communications or comm traffic coded personal" the computer reported.

"Fine, show me what I am allowed to see." Information started scrolling and after several minutes, he still hadn't seen all the traffic for the first day. Richard quickly found an appreciation for how much communications 100 000 beings could generate. He would never find anything like this.

"Computer. Stop comm signal review and access biographical record for mayor Drolem Simeth, and include any records that Simeth has down in Security" Richard said. The requested records displayed and Jibb settled in to read. The answer might be here somewhere.

Marine Captain Zhukarak Hrisvalar was on station. The Nevada had docked and was undergoing standard maintenance checks. Captain Jira was also going to be looking for a few more officers, before the next mission took place.

Zhukarak had one primary goal for today, but first he had to locate some temporary quarters. Walking through the starbase always afforded with a chance for observation and scrutiny of its inhabitants. Everyone always seemed like they had a place to be…two minutes ago. To the untrained it seemed like a frantic world. In fact, it was what Zhuk liked to call ‘Controlled Chaos’.

He finally reached his quarters. Zhuk proceeded to stow his gear, but not before he pulled out his dress uniform. Afterall, if he was going to see THE ADMIRAL with a request, he was going to have to make an impression.

Freshly dressed, he was ready to see Admiral Lin.

Marine Captain Hrisvalar made his way to the command deck, where most of the command staff and diplomats offices were located.
Zhuk approached the secretary, “Is Admiral Lin available for a short visit?”

“Let me find out for you.” After which she activated her comm link to the Admirals office.

=/\= Sir! There is a Marine Captain wishing to see you. =/\=

=/\= Send him in. I have a couple of minutes I can spare. =/\=

“Go right ahead.” The secretary pointed in the direction of the Admiral’s door.

Zhukarak proceeded to the door with a “Thank you.”

After two quick knocks, Zhukarak entered and wasn’t sure if he should salute or not. He decided he needed to.

“Sir! If I may, I have a request that will hopefully benefit the both of us.”

The Admiral looked at Zhukarak with a slight smile, and motioned for him to sit down. “At ease Captain. Please have a seat. If I’m not mistaken, weren’t you involved in the recent capture of Dr. Kavek?”

Zhukarak became as comfortable as he allowed himself to before the Admiral.

“Yes sir. It was my team that was sent out to capture him. As you well know, he eluded us on planet and Captain Jira was able to maneuver the Nevada to force the doctor to land on board.” Zhukarak didn’t want to take any credit where there was none to be taken.

The Admiral looked thoughtful before he replied. “Ah yes. Nonetheless, you helped force Dr. Kavek to make a move and it resulted in his capture. Well done! Now! What can I help you with, or myself, since you stated that it was mutually beneficial?”

Zhukarak sat straight up and made his proposal. “Admiral, it is my understanding that you are about to form a new fighter wing, here on Starbase Assailant. I would be honored and grateful if I was allowed to help in that endeavor. I would like to be assigned for temporary duty as a fighter pilot. I am a qualified marine pilot, and I can help in the instruction of new pilots on flying space patrols. I do not, however, wish to assume the commanding officer’s position. I will gladly follow the orders of any commander that you so choose, regardless of rank. I do hope that I would be allowed to help as I have already stated. If the CO objects to this, I would then simply request that I be allowed to remain as a pilot. I’m sure that I can at least help fill a fighter pilots seat.”

“I’m assuming that you have Captain Jira’s permission.”

“Yes sir! I wouldn’t be here without it.”

The Admiral looked at Zhukarak, and simply said “Mmmh.”

It was obvious that he was going through the logistics of this request.

Zhukarak was waiting patiently…

"Well Mr Hrisvalar" Magellan said presently, fingers steepled beneath his chin, "Normally staff are asked to take part, however I see no problem in requesting an assignment. It at least means that I have someone enthusiastic in the role. Additionally as the Nevada will be in drydock for awhile it would be prudent to make use of your talents in that time."
"So thats a yes then?"
"Yes it is. I already have a Squadron CO- Our Chief of Security will be in charge of running the wing although our Strat Ops Officer will also be involved. At present we have only very basic outlines and as yet no pilots. The actual Fighters will not be arriving for a few days."
"And where will I fit in?"
"I d like you to be as you suggested an Instructor and in addition to that work with Lieutenant Tomlinson and Commander Abren in all aspects of the wings development. Whilst your at it you could also lend your marine talents to helping station security, perhaps a series of training exercise, get our staff into shape?"
"That would be fine sir."
"Excellent, welcome to the team" Magellan stood and extended a hand that Zhukharak grasped and shook firmly.
"with the Nevada in dock - will you be requiring additional quarters on the station?"

When Saarok did not respond to Tedak's question, the Romulan looked past his friend at his bondmate. They took no notice of the humming of the four firelizard, assuming that it was just an expression of their distress.

"Perhaps we should take him to his office," Tedak suggested, supporting his friend as he spoke to T'Val.

"I was just about to suggest the same," she replied, taking hold of Saarok's other arm. "Come on ambassador, please walk with us."

Silently, the Vulcan ambassador walked with his friends to his office. Above them, four firelizards were engaged in their usual antics but the humming didn't cease. The trio arrived at the Vulcan's office, and the firelizard humming increased in volume, as they settled near a particular part of the office.

Curiously, Tedak walked over to the firelizard, then cried out in amazement. "T'Val look!" he called, pointing at a clutch of approximately thirty eggs. He tapped his combadge, knowing instantly who he should call.

"Tedak to Magellan, come to Saarok's office immediately. If there is someone with you, bring him or her. This is important and haste is required."

Apparently, Magellan had been close by because within a minute the Trill admiral marched into the office, followed by the Andorian Marine called Zhukarak Hrisvalar.

Tedak had already gone to the nearest replicator, but he didnt return soon enough. A golden creature had already hatched, and when there was no food about, she went between <to Qualinost> A bronze and a couple of browns and greens followed her.

When the Romulan returned, a bronze had just hatched. He snatched the bronze hatchling and placed it in Magellan's hand, then dropped a few slices of meat in his other hand. "Feed it," Tedak urged, "make him want to stay with you."

He snatched a blue hatchling and shoved it in Zhukarak's hands and repeated the instructions. By now more had hatched and T'Val had managed to attract a green.

To the side, Saarok stood gazing blankly and Tedak turned to him. "Come on my friend, this is a joyous occasion. Your golden one is a mother! Well...to some extend."

By now, save from three hatchlings, the rest had followed the young queen to Qualinost. T'Val sat on the desk carefully petting the tiny green. Beside her, Nut and Sev were crooning, their eyes whirling a mix of green and blue. Aeris had landed on Saarok's shoulder and was seeking attention. The blue was nowhere to be found.

"What are you going to name them?" Tedak asked

"I do not know yet," T'Val replied, "I will have to see what this one has for personal traits before I name her."

"With the Nevada in dock - will you be requiring additional quarters on the station?"

“Yes sir. I will require officer quarters near the flight deck. I have stowed my gear in some temporary quarters, not knowing if I was going to get this assignment. I thank you for this opportunity and I will bring honor to this station.”

When Zhukarak was done with his thanks, Adm Lin’s comm lit up, upon which his presence was requested immediately, to include anyone else that was present.

Adm Lin motioned for Zhuk to follow. Walking through a couple of adjacent corridors, they had arrived at their destination.

Zhukarak couldn’t believe his eyes. There were these firelizard creatures again. He had remembered one of them in particular.

Zhuk announced
“That was the creature that accompanied me during the apprehension of Dr. Kavek.”

No sooner did he say that, when a smaller version of these creatures was shoved into his hands. “Feed it. Make him want to stay with you.” Were the instructions.

Zhuk didn’t know what to do, other than to comply. He proceeded to give this little firelizard pieces of the meat that was available.

The firelizard that he had recognized, Sev, had also recognized him and gave Zhuk an approving look.

Standing up and stretching his arms and legs slightly, Tomlinson stepped over to his beeping comm station. When he hit the button, Admiral Magellan appeared on screen.

"Ah, Admiral, what can I do for you?" he asked jovially, having just sorted out the complete pilot's roster. The majority were trained pilots from Mars, but a good number would need training up on base.

"I've just recruited a pilot for you." The admiral stated with a smile as if to say that he was doing the security officer a favour.

"Oh?"

"A Marine Captain Zhukarak Hrisvalar. You may remember that he helped out with the Kavek incident?"

"I remember, an andorian if my memory serves me correctly. But doesn't he serve on the Nevada?"

"It's in drydock for a while, so he's requested a temporary tour of duty over here. Anyway, I've got to rush, Magellan out."

Tomlinson sighed. Of course, it was great getting another pilot in, and from what he had read of the andorian's record, he wasn't a bad flyer either. It would have been nive to have found out about it a bit earlier though. He would now have to get rid of someone he had already selected to include the andorian.

A few minutes later, and he had sorted it out, and was on his way down to one of the newly installed fighter bays. The station had two, one on either side, and Tomlinson was soon standing in the larger of the two. Looking around, he saw that the whole bay was prepped for the fighters, with spare parts already cluttering the massive room.

Sev stared at the blue person with the odd spikes on his head. The little bronze noted the blue man's excitement, and chirped as he got a little blue shoved in his hands. He had recognized the man, and chirped approvingly, then launched himself to settle on Tedak's shoulder and nuzzled his face.

Nut chirped too, but didn't move from Aeris' side. He fanned his wings as T'Val got a green and Magellan a bronze.

T'Val cradled the little green and cleaned her wings with the tip of her tunic while feeding the greedy little thing. She received images of intense hunger, love and need. "Yes I will care for you little one," T'Val whispered, the presence of the others totally forgotten. "Yade," she continued, "that will be your name. Your colour resembles jade, so bright green you are. Will you grow as strong as your sire?"

The green chirped and snatched yet another piece of meat from her hands, her eyes whirling green and blue. At last, she closed her eyes, and fell asleep in T'Val;s hands. "Truly a remarkable experience," T'Val commented, watching Zhukarak and Magellan look equally estaetic.

“Uhh, sir!” Captain Zhukarak Hrisvalar looked perplexed. “This, this, this beast is falling asleep. Should I put it down somewhere?”

Admiral Lin had a bemusing smile on his face.

T’Val approached the marine captain. “You are the one that Sev here decided to assist while capturing Dr. Kavek.” She had pointed to her bronze firelizard. “Let me tell you that Sev doesn’t usually get very close, much less go along with someone to another planet, with just anyone.” “It seems that he senses a very honorable man in you.”

Zhukarak reflected on his past career in the Imperial Guard, and now with Starfleet. He had always served with pride. He always wanted to ensure that the people above him could trust in his abilities, and that the people under his command would follow his example in a willing manner. He never asked anyone to do anything that he wasn’t willing to do himself.

“It must be you that is honorable, for he is bonded to you.” Zhuk gave a slight bow of respect to T’Val. “I am Zhukarak Hrisvalar and I am honored to be in your presence.”

“Why thank you. I am T’Val. I think we all here walk along the same path.” “Back to the ‘little beast’, as you called it. He is a firelizard. I think it would be great, and I would be honored, if you were willing to adopt him. I’m sure you remember how helpful and resourceful Sev was to you. Imagine what a companion this little blue one will make when he is bonded to you. He will guard you with his life and, if I may say so, blue seems to be a fitting color for you.”

Everyone gave a small laugh. Zhuk just smiled.

“I am humbled by your request. I will gladly adopt this firelizard. I do however have a proposal. I am here on temporary duty and will be very busy with the new fighter wing. I request that you continue in its care when I am not available. I’m sure he can still learn from being surrounded by his own kind. I will come and get him during my off duty time and perhaps take him along at times when duty permits.”

“That sounds agreeable. Now tell me, do you have a name for him?” T’val looked in wonderment.

Zhukarak was in deep thought. Then it came to him. “I shall call him Theel’zhiin. It means Guardian Sword.”

IC:

"However," T'Val continued, "since he is bonded to you, the first weeks he should be with you as much as possible. When you tell him to come to me and stay with me, he will. They can travel by means of teleportation, as Sev may have showed you. It is best if he stays with you, especially on missions. But he may stay with us when needed. I am sure Yade will appreciate the company."

She gently stroked the eye ridge of her green, and the little creature crooned. "How will you name your bronze admiral?" she asked softly.

Magellan looked at the infant firelizard. It looked up at him with dark eyes, a thin thread of egg fibre trailing from the egg 'tooth' hook on the tip of the thin snout. The scales were still soft at the moment and faintly slimy from the embryonic fluids lining the egg. He suspected that within hours they would harden up. The lower scutes were a soft ecru colour whilst the upper ones were a deep bronze. The thin membranous wings looked far to fragile to support anything and were unlike anything he could think off, the obvious comparision was with those of a bat, but the firelizards seemed thin and the veins more prominent.
It sqwaked softy and then uttered a throaty chirring noise.
"I m not sure" Magellan replied, names were important he noticed that Zhukarak understood that, words had meaning and names power. "I ll have to think on it. Names need careful planning. I best take him back to my quarters and then I better check that Admiral Drew is ready for his science mission"

Off: I'm back from my LOA everyone, hoped you missed me Anyway now to the post.

"Thank you my wife," Tedak said softly, then turned to Saarok. "Do you remember now?"

"I, I need time for the images and memories to fall in the right places", Saarok said as he dazed of from the room. He had a real confusion in his head a huge blank space and after it memories that were falling in the correct places. He began to remember but only the things Tedak knew about him and about what was happening everything before the time he met Tedak was one big void, he could remember nothing of what happened before. However that could wait.

But he did not know that much of what had happened a short while ago, and was unknown to Tedak was probably lost for Saarok forever unless his brain was able to regenerate itself through extensive meditation. Would Saarok ever remember it all? Will he ever remember his past? That was unknown at the time to both Saarok and those around him. But did they really think about it? No they did not as the important thing was to get the ambassador back, the rest it would be possible to bring it back at a later time.

When Saarok was brought into his office he still appeared like he was staring into a blank space. And when he was informed of the new firelizards he still did not show any signs of remembering anything.

After the crowd in his office started to get thinner he ceased to stare into blank space and got focus back to his eyes, he remembered of what Tedak knew of him and about everything else, but there were still parts he could not remember.

"Admiral", he called to Magellan as he was about to leave

"Yes?" he replied turning at the door

"With the help of Mr. Tedak here I was able to remember many things about the current situation and enough to get back to my job. However ms. Jatira Laika can keep the position of the head of the diplomatic core here on SB Assailant, of course should she need any help I would be happy to offer it.", Saarok said

"Thankyou, that does seem the wisest course of action until you are back on form again."

"And of course if there is anything you need me to do I am at your disposal, I should have restored most of my data, as I will contact the DCS for them to transmit the info on the current diplomatic situation in the area."

"Excellent that would be very helpful, If we ahve any trouble I ll come find you"

"You know where you can find me, and you were wise to decide to impress a firelizard, they can be very useful at times", Saarok finished as he left Magellan

"My friend"; he said to Tedak

<Tedak>

"Thank you for helping me remember many things, however I have not been able to remember it all, many things are still blank but over time I am sure I will remember it all", Saarok said

Post by Paul Drew on Jan 27th, 2005, 2:12pm

Meanwhile on the Copenhagen

Drew settled behind the small desk in his modest quarters on the Copenhagen, he had just completed a tour of the ship, with Lt. Commander Axen Abren, the stations Strategic Operations Officer, who would be serving as Tactical, and First Officer for this mission. Although small, the Copenhagen was very impressive, newly refitted it had many state of the art systems, and Drew had been assured the science systems on the ship were second to none. Science Officer Lieutenant Rachel O’Sullivan had told Drew that the systems were a new design, and that the Copenhagen would be field testing the new systems. From his talks with Chief Engineer Bucky, Drew had learned that many of the Copenhagen’s systems were experimental, this mission would be about testing Starfleet’s newest devices, as well as mapping out the area around Assailant.

There were of course the usual status reports to complete before the ship could leave, that was what Drew was busying himself with now, having completed his duties on Assailant, his fall attention could now be given to Copenhagen.

His attention was distracted by a call from Operations Officer Ensign T’Kor;

“Sorry to disturb you Admiral, but I thought you would want to know Admiral Lin is aboard the ship.”

“Yes, thank you Ensign,” Drew replied, rising from his chair, “Tell the Admiral I will meet him shortly.”

“Aye Sir,” T’Kor replied, closing the channel.

After getting Magellan’s location from the computer, Drew headed off to meet his friend, finding him down in the science labs, also keenly inspecting Starfleet’s latest invitations.

“Amazing isn’t it?” Magellan said as he saw Drew approach, “A complete redesign of the central sensor systems, and to think, when we were Cadets, we thought we had the latest tech.”

“It sure is,” Drew agreed, “Makes me feel kind of old.”

“Try having memories of countless life times to make you feel old,” Magellan said with a smile, “Why I can still remember the old sensor nets from the first Excelsior’s.”

“Well, Starfleet tells us this little ship should run rings around the Excelsior in the science field.”

“Indeed,” Magellan answered, “And she still has impressive fire power, a science ship with teeth, a sad reflection of the current state of the galaxy.”

“Sadly so,” Drew replied, nodding his head, “What with the Borg, the Dominion, the Breen, it seems there is a threat around every corner these days.”

“Well,” Magellan said in a cheerful voice, trying to change subject, “You shouldn’t be needing fire-power where you’re going.”

Drew agreed nodded in agreement, “A nice science mission, going back to what Starfleet is all about.”

“Have you invited all the diplomatic staff?” Magellan inquired.

“I sent them all personal invitations this morning,” Drew told him, “after all, this entire mission is possible thanks to the special circumstances around Assailant.”

“Good, I hope they take the opportunity to see life on a Starfleet ship.”

“Speaking of a Starfleet ship,” Drew said with a grin, “You fancy seeing the bridge?”

“I thought you would never ask!” Magellan replied happily, “Led the way.”

After Saarok ended his conversations with Magellan and Tedak and the men left his office, he decided that it was time to attempt to restore some of the data that appears to have been deleted. First thing he did was contact the DCS center and requested all important diplomatic info and a new set of access codes. Admiral Clark was very helpful and the whole matter was resolved soon.

After he received the data he began to study it. Most of the info was already familiar to him but there were parts of it that needed to be learned again. Several hours later while he was checking some files on his computer he reached a file that couldn't be opened with his access codes. Peculiar he thought a file in my computer which I am unable to access. How can this be he asked himself.

Perhaps my new access codes are not of the same level as my old ones. That would be the only logical answer to my problem. After trying unsuccessfully with several different code breakers to access the file he had to give up for the time being. Logic states that once i am able to restore more of my memory that i will at that time be able to remember how to access this file and perhaps even my access codes.

After ending the debate over that file he decided to check his messages where he found another dead end. One message was encoded by an algorithm not familiar to him at least not familiar to him at this time; there is something very strange happening here he thought but there does not seem to be a clear logical solution to this problem. After reading over some of the messages he had access to, he heard a chime on the door.

"Enter he said"

It was his chief of security commander Jackson, or that’s what he thought with the knowledge he possessed at the time.

"Sir, I arrived back as soon as I heard. Are you feeling ok?"; Jackson asked

"Well aside of loosing most of my memory it is logical to assume that i am feeling fine", Saarok answered

"You lost your memory?",

"That is correct"

"Directive beta 45-9", Jackson said

"What is that?", Saarok asked

"Oh nothing just something from a book I’m reading", Jackson attempted to get out of it but it was true Saarok lost his memory which meant he had to excise Saaroks orders issued should something like this ever happen

He walked over to the computer and tapped at the console a few times restoring Saaroks security clearance without him knowing and activating the bug to clear all the sensitive files from his computer, his memory will no doubt be restored but in the meantime he had to do this.

"I will send lt. Décor and Joplin to be your guard from now on", Jackson said

"Fine", Saarok replied

"You have been invited to go with Adm. Drew on a science mission I suggest you accept and join him"; Jackson said

"Yes I think I will do it, perhaps something there can trigger my memory", he replied

"Good bye then I hope you will get you’re memory back soon"; Jackson said as he left Saaroks office

After Jackson departed Saarok decided to ask Tedak if he was planning to go on the science mission so he sent him a message and sat in his chair awaiting his reply.

"No T'Val," Tedak said; he was on the verge of losing his patience with his wife. "You are not coming on this little trip. We will plan our vacation some other time, this issue that has come up is more important. Besides, you have the care for D'Beren, as well as your newly hatched firelizard. I cannot condone you and our son coming along on a possibly dangerous trip."

T'Val sighed, she had really been looking forward to their trip off the station, and when Tedak had announced the departure of the Copenhagen, and an invitation for him to come along, she had been almost delighted. "Very well," she said, "I will remain here, but you must promise me to be careful."

"I will," Tedak replied, taking his wife into an embrace and kissed her. Just then, the com went off, and Saarok's image appeared on a panel. "Excuse me," Tedak said and went over to the panel to listen to his friend's message.

"Indeed I am," he answered, "shall we meet at the docking hatch in half an hour?"

It was yesterday when Zhukarak had accepted adopting Theel’zhiin, his new companion, a firelizzard. T’Val stated that it was important more so now than ever that Theel’zhiin remain by his side in this early stage of life.

The past 18 hours proved to be quite interesting with Theel’zhiin. Since Zhukarak already had heightened senses, compared to humans, and the ability to gauge other humanoids’ personalities and alignments, it seemed like a seventh sense was turned on. Visions would enter Zhukarak’s mind from Theel’zhiin’s point of view. He remembered when Sev had done this very same thing, but it was still a little disconcerting for Zhukarak.

Theel’zhiin was a hungry little fellow. He required feeding every 3 hours. At least replicators were not in short demand.

It was time to seek out Lt Tomlinson. He was Chief of Security here and he was heading up the new fighter wing.

Hopefully he wasn’t going to be annoyed by Theel’zhiin. Then again, there were a couple of other firelizards in the fleet and the Admiral now had one. What could he say?

Richard sat back and rubbed his eyes. He had been examining the records for Drolem Simeth for several hours and now, and there wasn't much to keep him interested. Security had some notes on him regarding a potential illegal exchange of some kind. There were also some notes on visits by Admiral KezTrek, Paul Drew and Ambassador Saarok. Pretty important company. There were no notes on what was said at these meetings. Saaroks had been the longest by far though.

There was also some conjecture about a transporter somewhere in Simeth's office, but Jibb could see no proof behind anything. Just a bunch of random statements without anything behind them.

Simeth's official biographical record wasn't very interesting either. He was from Raisa. Came to Assailant for reasons of his own and somehow managed to become Mayor. Richard had listened to several of his campaign speeches, and they mostly involved telling people what they wanted to hear. Standard political tactic, but Simeth seemed to be able to do that better than his opponents.

One interesting thing that Richard had managed to find was that the incidence of piracy around the station was almost 10 times what it was before Simeth showed up. Unfortunately, like everything else he had come across, it wasn't proof, just conjecture.

Richard rotated his chair, put his feet up on the desk and stared out the view port absently. If Simeth was up to something illegal, he was either very smart or very dumb.

Turning back to the console, Richard accessed the Starbases free media. There were several outfits that provided news to the inhabitants of the station, and he ran a search for the mayors name.

Like most politicians, Mayor Simeth seemed to like seeing his name in print, and there were numerous articles that had his name. However, the number of public appearances from the mayor had decreased dramatically over the last few days. This development roughly coincided with the vist to the Mayor by Ambassador Saarok.

Another coincidence, but at least this one could be checked out. Richard ran a computer check between Saarok and Simeth, looking for simiarities between the two.

Half an hour after talking to Saarok, Tedak had packed his bags and was ready to depart to the Copenhagen. "You behave yourself," he told T'Val while smiling brightly. His two firelizards echoed his mood, and in her arms, even the little green chirped. "I am leaving Sev with you," he said, "I am taking Nut with me."

He gazed at the bronze intently, and the bronze gave a reluctant chirp, but settled besides T'val on the table. Tedak picked up his bag and slung it over his shoulder. "Well I will be off then," he said as he walked to the door.

T'Val rose from her chair and walked up to him. To his surprise, she kissed him in the human fashion, for the first time. "Be careful," she said only.

"I will most certainly endeavour to do so," he replied, then walked out the door. When he reached the airlock, Saarok hadn't arrived yet. Deciding to dump his bag, he stepped into the airlock.

Ädmiral?" he called, "This is Ambassador Tedak requesting permission to come aboard."

On the Bridge, Drew and Magellan turned as Tedak's voice sounded over the inter-comm systems. Drew walked over to the small Operation's station, and pressed a small button.

"Ambassador! permission granted."

"Thank you Admiral," came Tedak's reply, "Who shall be meeting me?"

Drew gave a glance over to Magellan, who nodded, "Admiral Lin and myself will be right down to greet you, when the other Ambassador's arrive, we will arrange a tour of the ship."

Tedak waited for the two admirals to pick him up at the hatch. "Really generous of you to invite the diplomats aboard for a trip on a starship admiral...admirals even." He smiled, at both men.

He stepped aboard the ship and looked around. "Ambassador Saarok will be arriving shortly, I hope, we were supposed to meet here but he is late. I am, however very much looking forward to a tour of your ship admiral. From the viewport she looks a beauty."

After contacting Tedak about joining him on the excursion, Saarok returned to read some more about what he once knew but forgotten. He decided to try once more to open the encrypted messages. He gave his code and to his surprise, as much as a Vulcan can be surprised, the message opened it continued some info on the latest happenings within the Romulan Empire.

It would be logical to assume that either there was a computer error a few moments ago or someone raised my clearance to a higher level then it was before. He decided to access the files he tried earlier but was unable to open them. But the computer informed him that 30 minutes have passed so he had to put this of for later.

He downloaded some info to the pad and went out of his office, accompanied by Aeris as his other firelizard had gotten of to somewhere and his two new guards, but they could have been even old ones as he would not remember them. They proceeded towards the airlock. There he found an lieutenant waiting for him.

"Welcome ambassador", the man said to him

"Some of the diplomatic staff is already on board you may precede” the man said as Saarok and his guards and Aeris proceed through the airlock on board the vessel. He arrived on the ship just as Tedak was informing the admirals that he was late.

"Admirals, ambassador", he called them as he approached them

"Ambassador. Are you feeling any better?" Magellan asked

"Yes I am fine physically but I still do not poses all of my lost memories but this should improve over time", Saarok said

<Tedak, Paul>

"Yes I sense some familiarity of this vessel as if I had been on one before however I can not remember it's layout nor anything else about it", said Saarok

<Tedak, Paul>

As they pointed him to the nearest terminal on the wall and called up the schematics of the ship for him to look at, as he was looking at it he remembered parts of the ship he had forgotten due to the memory loss however his knowledge was not near the one he had before but sufficient for him to not get lost.

"If you gentlemen have nothing against it, perhaps we might proceed on the tour you promised ambassador Tedak here"; Saarok said

"Of course I m sure Admiral Drew will be more than pleased to conduct the tour. I however must be leaving, duty calls. I ll talk to you before you leave from ops Paul, keep her in one piece"
"This isnt the Vic" Drew replied straight faced,
Magellan grinned,
"That it aint, I ll see you on the flip side, good journey"

Magellan returned first to his quarters where he had left the small natant fire lizard curled up in his armchair. He looked at the small bronze animal and decided on a name, a name that befitted a dragon, a name that had history if not for a trill at least for a human. It was Toya that was reponsible, as an exo-ecologist she had spent some time researching mythological creatures in the Federation. It was a popular theory at one time that evidence of a common mythology would indicate common ancestry, he studies of earth history and in particular british led her to an account of two dragons, a red and a white whose fight foretold of a battle between King Vortigern and Arthur. Yes that was most fitting and so it was that Magellan decided to call the creature Dinas Emrys or Dinas for short after the name of the site of the two dragons.
Dinas unwound and fluttered, somewhat clumsily up to perch on his shoulder. Magellan took his seat and Dinas curled up next to him welcome of the warmth.
Magellan found himself recalling earlier events, he had likened the Copenhagen to an Excelsior class ship. And yet he nor Toya had ever been on one. It was yet another moment when he had surprised himself, like when he'd greeted teh Tekarans in their native language and a vague memory of wearing the old style uniforms form the 2260's. Slowly Magellans mind drifted away from the curious additional memories and drifted off to sleep.

A few others were coming along too, but she wasn't sure who would be there. She still did not know the other ambassadors very well and hoped that she could use this trip as a way to do so.

Marine Cpt Zhukarak Hrisvalar arrived at Lt Tomlinson’s office. Theel’zhiin was perched on Zhukarak’s shoulder.

Simon looked up from his security paperwork, “Ah. Captain Hrisvalar. Welcome. I understand you will be joining our fighter wing, for which I had to make room for.”

“I hope this isn’t a problem. I assure you that I did not mean to displace anyone. I am an able pilot and I am offering my services for further training of these pilots.” Zhukarak’s voice was firm, letting Lt Tomlinson know that he wasn’t going to be a pushover.

Zhuk sensed the tension rising in Theel’zhiin as his claws were digging in a little deeper, and his wings became slightly spread. ~Be calm. We are on the same side.~ Theel’zhiin sensed the calming thoughts and relaxed a bit.

The firelizard didn’t go unnoticed by Lt Tomlinson. “Yes, I’ve read your file. At the moment we are still awaiting our compliment of fighters. I guess you can familiarize yourself with flightops and personnel.”

“Admiral Lin also asked me perform some security training for your department. I think I will begin there. I will go over your security personnel, their training levels and work schedules, and I will plan a time for training on the holodeck.” “Of course I will inform you first.”

“Of course.” Lt Tomlinson smirked.

“I believe almost everyone is here,” Drew answered Saarok, who seemed particularly keen to get underway, there attention was diverted by the air lock doors opening, admitting Jatira into the ship. Drew nodded a greeting to her.

“Well then we should start?” Saarok asked.

“Certainly Ambassador,” Drew said politely, then turning his entire attention to the group, which consisted of Tedak, Sarrok, Jatira and Ambassador Kaskrene, “If you would all be please follow me, I will give you a brief tour of the ship before we depart.”

“Excellent,” Tedak replied eagerly, “I understand the Copenhagen has some of Starfleet’s latest science systems.”

“Indeed it does,” Drew said proudly, “The Copenhagen, and its sister ship the Vanquisher have been fitted with experimental technology, with the unique situation on Assistant, Starfleet Command feels it is the perfect place to test the future of our ships.”

“Will Mr. Jibb being joining us?” Jatira asked, as they headed for main Engineering.

“I have sent him an invite,” Drew answered, “So who knows, he might be waiting for us back at the airlock.”

Entering the medium size Engineering room, Drew directed his group to the singular large warp core in the centre of the room.

“The Copenhagen has reached speeds of around warp 9.4, which I am sure you all know, is impressive for a ship this compact.”

“Indeed it is,” Saarok replied, “It amazes me how Starfleet can build these smaller ships, and still keep them up to spec.”

“You know what Engineers are like,” Drew laughed, “Smaller is always better.”

“How long do you expect our mission to last Admiral?” Tedak asked, after they had completed tours of Engineering, and the Science labs.

“No longer than a week,” Drew told him, “We want to give all our systems as full a test as possible out on the field, maybe even give the warp drive a go.”

Finally all that was left for the tour, was the bridge, as they stood outside the doors, Drew turned to his group, and hushed for silence.

“Before we enter the bridge, do any of you have any questions?”

Richard quietly left the office that he had been given for the day. His research on commonalities between Saarok and Mayor Simeth had found only one thing. They had been born in the same galaxy. Other than that, the two seemed to have nothing in common, at least according to their computer profiles. The comparison had taken several hours, and Richard was sick of looking at biographical details and decided to call it a night.

He was about to return to his suite when he realized that he hadn't been down to see the Wanderer since she had been put into drydock for repair, although he had been receiving daily status reports.

Richard made his way through the complicated maze of Assailant to the Federation drydock area. There, the Wanderer was grounded, but looking almost like new. He walked up, accessed the main hatch which hissed open quietly and made his way to the bridge.

Richard smiled to himself as he sat down in his command chair and started checking systems. Another hour flew by as he verified the Wanderer's health. She seemed ready to go. Richard quashed the urge to take her for a joyride. His last one ended up with he and T'Val being in a major mess. Shaking his head, all he did was do a complete change of all access codes aboard ship before locking everything down and returning to his quarters.

When he got there, the message light was flashing on his console. Accessing it, he found that Admiral Drew had invited him aboard the Copenhagen for some nebula research and new technology testing. Richard bent over the console and requested information regarding the Copenhagen's departure and compliment. It seemed that some important company had also signed on and that she would be leaving very shortly. Jibb decided that it might be a good idea to stay here and sort of keep an eye on things.

He sent a polite decline to Admiral Drew, then sent messages to Raisa and Vulcan, asking for any biographical information they might have regarding Drolem Simeth and Saarok, respectively. Then he accessed the repair reports for the Wanderer and started going through them. There was no telling when he might need to leave.

Tedak raised his hand, smiling all the while. "I have a question," he said, raising his voice somewhat, "where is all the crew? Or are we taking the Copenhagen for a spin on our own?"

Around him, the diplomats chuckled, and Nut, sitting on one of the panels, appeared to be chuckling as well. Tedak smiled with mild bemusement as he saw Drew's puzzled expression. "Just joking," he added, though he still didn't see any Copenhagen crew, just Drew and the load of diplomats.

"Is Mr Jibb not coming?" he finally asked, making a point of looking disappoined, "I would have thought that he'd not pass up the opportunity to catch a ride on this magnificent ship."

Since he was training security teams responsible for a starbase, it only made sense that Marine Captain Zhukarak Hrisvalar programmed the holodeck for scenarios on a starbase.

Currently, the teams were engaging a hostile merchant. The premise was that one of the merchants on the Promenade Deck was having a bad day. After one of the customers complained of the high prices the merchant was charging, the merchant pulled out a phaser, pointing it at his customer.

The security team of three responded to the call from a neighboring merchant. The lead officer went inside with one of his men, leaving the other outside to clear the area of bystanders and onlookers. This would minimize casualties, if it went bad. Zhukarak was evaluating and taking mental notes.

The lead officer slowly approached the merchant to within ten paces, all the while trying to talk him down. The second security officer had separated himself and was off to the side, so the merchant could not see both at the same time. He would wait for an opportunity to intervene, if necessary. This was a twist of divide and conquer.

Zhukarak was noting that the lead officer had bothered to get some necessary information about the merchant, before he had arrived. He was talking to him in a slow, calm, friendly manner, and was referring to personal information about the merchant while talking. This was good. The lead officer was treating him as a friend and made references to some of the merchant’s friends and families.

The merchant finally broke down and lowered his arm, at which time the second officer rushed in and disarmed him.

“Computer! End program!” “That was good. You have met this exercise with success.”

Simon slipped away, leaving the holodeck. He had been watching the whole exercise, dressed in civilian uniform, watching how the marine went about the exercise. He had to admit that it was impressive, even if it was something that the security officers had already bee rigorously trained in. He still had reservations about how effective the andorian would be.

As he walked away from the holodeck, he heard the door slide open down the corridor behind him, and footsteps started towards him. He slowed his pace, and the andorian was soon beside him.

"Well, what do you think?" he asked with the hint of a smile.

Tomlinson kept walking, pondering his reply. "It was good. They seemed very efficient, and they managed to minimise damages."

Hrisvalar placed a hand on the security officer's shoulder, stopping him. "You don't like me Lieutenant."

"You seem a very good officer Captain. Now I have duties to attend to."

"Like what?"

"The fighter squadron is arriving in under an hour, I need to be changed and ready by the time they arrive."

Richard's eyes popped blearily open and he sat up in bed. His quarters hadn't changed overnight, as usual. That was always a good sign. He got out of bed and went through the usual morning routine.

About an hour later, he was sitting with cup of coffee at his main view window watching Qualinost rise. It had become a habit since he had taken these quarters. It was a nice way to start the day.

Sighing, he got to work. His first check was to see if there were any official courier duties that he would have to perform. However, it seemed the majority of the station's diplomatic staff were aboard the Copenhagen, which left him with little official work to do.

This left him with his unofficial work. There were two communiques blinking at him on his console. The first from Vulcan, and it was typically abrupt and to the point. The Vulcan Diplomatic Office didn't reveal information regarding it's staff to mere Level 3 Ambassadors. The message politely instructed him to either ask Saarok personally, or view the "official" bio that the Federation would allow Richard access to.

In other words, bug off...

The one from Raisa regarding Drolem Simeth was a bit more informative. It listed his birth date and location, a history of education and several government type jobs the man had had while living on the planet. Seemed pretty ordinary. There was even a listing for the day he left for Starbase Assailant.

He was reading that when something jogged his memory. Richard accessed Simeth's personel records from Assailant and went through them, trying to figure out what his eyes were trying to tell him. Finally, he tracked it down. It was Simeth's original request for entry to Assailant.

The Assailant entry request for Simeth had been completed in 2365, and Drolem had listed his age as 25. However, the Raisan document Richard had looked at noted that he had left the planet in 2363, at age 25. This little discrepancy left two years unaccounted for.

Richard verified his findings. There seemed to be no doubt. Drolem had had two years of time where he was unaccounted for, and he had even lied about it to the Federation. He sat back in his chair and tried to think of what to do next.

>>Starbase Assailant, Deck 47<<

A blinking light caught the attention of the Andorian. He took a look at the relevant information. Someone on the station had taken an interest in the mayor and was looking in places they shouldn't.

He ran a trace program, but whoever it was was working behind an extremely good encryption wall. There weren't many computer systems aboard the station that could stop his trace this easily. In fact there was only one.

"Federation" he mumbled to himself. He turned and looked at the hulking shape of the Nausican that was sitting in the chair behind him. "I might have some work for you soon" he said.

The Nausican growled agreeably.

OCC:
Sorry for my lack of posts, been a little bit busy recently, anyways, onwards and upwards.

ON:

“Indeed we are Ambassador,” Drew answered Tedak, walking up to the Romulan Ambassador who was hovering over the Science stations, Drew pressed a few buttons on the console, and an image of a multi-coloured nebula appeared on screen.

“Ah, I see,” Tedak said, “We will be testing out your impressive new science systems in there.”

“Exactly,” Drew told him, “It has the perfect conditions for testing the new sensor grid, and probe systems.”

“Well, this is all very interesting,” Saarok, added, walking over to join them, Jatira just behind him, “but if we are ready, may I suggest we depart?”

Drew surprised a smile at the Ambassador’s forward remarks, Vulcans, especially ones who were Ambassador’s often had a knack for such comments, although Drew noticed a few of the junior officers on the bridge looked up in shock at such comments directed at senior officer.

“Of course we shall Mr. Ambassador,” Drew said pleasantly, turning away from science, and walking the small distance to the command level.

“Open a channel to Assailant,” Drew ordered.

Magellan’s face appeared on screen, behind could be seen the busy scene at Ops.

“Go ahead Copenhagen,”

“Requesting permission to disembark,” Drew said, his hands folded behind his back.

“Permission granted,” Magellan said with a smile, “Safe journey Copenhagen.”

“See you in one week,” Drew replied, returning the smile, “Copenhagen out.”

And then the viewscreen returned to a view of Assailants docking port.

“All crew to stations,” Drew ordered, turning and now sitting in the command chair, he ran his hands over the chair arm rests, it felt good to be back in the centre seat. “Bring all systems online, helm take us out at one quarter impulse power.”

Almost instantly, the view of the docking port was replaced by one of an open star field, as the small science vessel left her home base, and set off on adventure.

The atmosphere on the Copenhagen bridge was now one of excitement, this was a moment the crew had been waiting for, for a quite some time.

“Increase speed to full impulse,” Drew continued to give his orders, “and set course for the Nebula.”

“Aye Captain,” came the reply from young Ensign Tims.

Drew turned in his chair to face the Vulcan science officer, “Commander Sev, stand ready to deploy the first probe as soon as we enter the Nebula.”

“Enjoying the ride so far?” Drew asked the Ambassadors, who had been given seats at the rear of the bridge.

“Certainly Admiral,” Saarok answered, “The launch of a new vessel is always most fulfilling.”

“That means he is enjoying himself,” Jatira cut in with a smile.

“I am sure he is,” Drew answered with a laugh, and then turned his attention back to the viewscreen as the Nebula started to grow bigger.

“Science standing ready,” Sev reported, his hands already posed to release the first probe of the day.

“Entering Nebula in 5, 4, 3,” Tims called out, as the ship flew closer and closer, “2, 1, we are in Captain.”

“Probe away,” Sev reported.

“Are we getting back readings?” Drew asked.

“Affirmative,” Sev told the Captain, “I believe phase one of our tests is a success.”

“Congratulations Admiral,” Tedak said from the back on the bridge.

Drew turned round and gave the Ambassador a smile in way of thanks, then calling up a screen on his chair, viewed the results from the probe, and as he did, alarm bells started to ring in his head, something was happening.

“Sev, what are those readings?” Drew called out, trying to keep the alarm from his voice.

Sev’s attention was also on his screen displays, “It appears the probe has caused a rift of sort to open in the Nebula.”
“What kind of rift?” Drew demanded.

“I am unable to establish that information at this time,” Sev told Drew, “however, it appears to have a strong gravitational pull, I suggest backing away.”

“Agreed,” Drew answered, “Helm, all engines full reverse.”

Behind him, Drew was aware of the Ambassadors standing, and walking towards the command level, wanting to get a better view of the situation.

And then suddenly the ship started to rock heavily, causing all those standing to full to the deck, Drew only just stayed in his seat by grabbing onto the arm rests.

“Report!” he called out.

“We can’t break free,” Tims reported, “Whatever it is, we are being pulled inside.”

“Send a distress call to Assailant, they can get help here instantly.”

“Transmitting distress cal…” the communications officer never finished his sentence, as the hardest shudder yet hit the ship, causing almost everyone to full to the deck. When Drew looked over at the young communication officer, he saw his head placed at an odd angle clearly his neck was broken.

“Medical teams to the bridge,” Drew called over the comm systems, as he realised the extent of the injuries they had suffered, it was then he noticed that the shaking had stopped, had they gone through the rift?

“Someone give me a report,” Drew called out, pulling himself back into his chair.

For a few deadly silent minutes they came no reply from anyone on the bridge, and then Drew heard Tedak’s strong voice coming back at him.

“We appear to have entered, and exited the rift,” he reported, “Although reading’s are unclear, I am unable to pinpoint our location at this time.”

“Where are you Tedak?” Drew asked.

“At the Science station Captain,” Tedak answered, “I regrettably have to report Commander Sev is dead.”

“As is your Tactical Officer,” Sarrok’s voice now came from the direction of the tactical console, “I can tell you that the ship has sustained only light damage, although sickbay is reporting a high number of crew injuries, with at least ten crewmembers dead.”

Drew listened as Saarok called out the names of the dead officers, in time he would grieve for each of them, but right now he needed to think about the remaining crew.

“We need to get the sensor systems back up,” Drew told the remaining crew, “Find out where we are, and how we can get back.”

<tag to everyone, if you have read the mission spec Magellan gave before, you should all know where we are, there are no plans for what is to happen next, so feel free to go with your gut>

The Small hab dome shook again, less violently this time. The shelling had been going on for nearly an hour without a let up. It was a stalemate really, a messy and very complicated threeway stalemate with them in the middle.
A burst EPS grid ruptured in a shower of sparks that singed the hair of a passing Vulcan. A springling of dust fell from the roof oncemore.
"They're pulling back. Both of them." T'Ruk called from the perimeter, his face was smudged and he held the disruptor with a casual ease.
"Excellent it might give us time to get Jak Dor to help us fix the satellite defences" Voral called excitedly her antennae twitching in anticipation.
The debrune satellite network above the planet had been all that had kept both parties from destroying them, Then when the sector base began to be constructed and the attention of both the Alliance and the Empire had fell upon this sector things had got nasty, their idyllic community had been shattered and they had all been changed it was frightening how quickly a farmer could become a freedom fighter. The Empire and Alliance had both knocked a tiny whole in the defences and landed troops. Then the fighting had really begun a bitter three way struggle for survival.
"You best tell the boss" T'Ruk suggested
"I ll do it" Voral offered.

Tedak peered at the science station, his jaws grinding together in annoyance and anger. Most of the ciruits had shorted out and the blast that had come forth from the station should techically had knocked him aside. Only because the commander had been in the way, the man had been killed and Tedak's robes only singed.

"There is no way to tell admiral," he said, almost ruefully, "sensors are down. Someone with engineering skill will have to attempt to repair them. I would suggest sending away a probe if the launching tubes are still operating, otherwise there is no way to tell where we are."

Suddenly he glanced at his brown firelizard. "Eh admiral? Nut is picking up other firelizards, and they are none of ours, nor the hatchlings that set off to Qualinost. This is most interesting, he doesn't know who the firelizards are or who they are bonded to."

He turned to Saarok, whose queen was perched on his shoulder. "Is Aeris picking them up also?" By the looks of the golden queen, she had but Tedak wished to know if she had relayed that information to the Vulcan ambassador.

The new pilots looked professional enough. Marine Captain Hrisvalar had joined Lt Tomlinson in welcoming the new arrivals. Actually Tomlinson was doing the welcoming while Zhukarak was doing mental notations, sizing them up and down.

They weren’t fresh from the academy, but they weren’t seasoned veterans yet, either.

After the pleasantries, Zhukarak returned to his quarters. There wasn’t going to be any training yet. The new pilots were checking themselves in and getting acquainted with the starbase.

Theel’zhiin gave a little squawk of a greeting. Of course he was hungry again. After getting an assortment of small meat pieces from the replicator, Zhuk proceeded to feed his little companion. It didn’t take long to become fond of him.

During the feeding, Zhuk noticed that a message was available for viewing on his personal viewer. He read it. It appeared that his temporary assignment was going to be cut short, and he hadn’t been able to fly any of the new fighters yet.

It seemed that the Nevada was almost ready for her next mission. Captain Jira just sent a short message in that regard, and he would keep Zhuk posted. It also seemed like there was going to be an almost entirely new command staff. This was going to be interesting.

For a moment, Zhuk felt a sense of satisfaction as far as hunger went, and yet he was actually hungry. It took a moment to realize that Zhuk was hungry and he had sensed from Theel’zhiin that his little friend was satisfied. This was going to get some taking used to.

Magellan put the last of his affairs in order and double checked he'd got everything covered. In a way this urgent mission to Cardassia for command couldnt have come at a worse time. The Victory was in trouble, The Nevada was undergoing a major refit and Restaff and Drew was off base in teh Nebula, but needs must and this need was dire.
He exited his office and went and fetched Dinas, the infant Firelizard was too young to leave behind and he hoped that this mission wouldnt be too hostile to take him with them. He returned to Operations the small bronze curled about his neck.
"Zoilip. You have Fleet Control. F'Rras you have base control. Keep everything status quo. I doubt we'll be gone longer than a week."
"Aye Sir. Good luck"
Magellan left Ops and made a quick detour to the flight deck. There he saw Zhukarak with some of the new pilots.
"Tomlinson?" he asked
Zhukarak nodded towards the Flight CO office.
"Thanks"
"Hey Simon." Magellan greeted " I just wanted you to know I m going to be off base for a week. I ve left F'Rass in command - he is the ranking officer... but..."
"But you want me to keep an eye on him" Tomlinson replied with a grin.
"Something like that - you know how stressed he gets. And watch out for Jibb I think hes still digging on the Sonev/Simeth link, make sure he doesnt get out of his depth oh and get this fighter wing up to scratch. I ll see you in a few days."

With that Magellan left.

Drew looked up at the firelizard with interest, in truth he had paid little attention to the strange creatures that had become popular companions of many Assailant staff members, but he knew they had proven telepathic skill.

“Can Nut detect where they are?” Drew asked, turning round to face Tedak.

“Only that that are close by Admiral, perhaps on a ship, or nearby planet.”

“Well, at least we know there is life out there,” Drew said, “Keep me informed of any process Nut makes.”

“I will Admiral,” Tedak promised.

“I wonder if there are any Engineering teams to come repair the science station?” Drew asked out aloud, he had called for teams, but so far none had appeared. Deciding he couldn’t wait any longer, Drew pulled out a repair kit from a nearby storage locker, and turned his attention to the station. Being very thankful for all those years he had spent in starship’s engineering sections.

I ve tweaked this post slightly as it was going in a direction I wasnt planning - Its my fault for not informing you Tedak - I ll catch you later on MSN and give you a heads up.

"Vessel closing in," Tedak suddenly reported, "and there is a firelizard aboard. Nut says it is a queen firelizard, belonging to an admiral. He can't specify what admiral...wait..." Tedak sat down and called the brown firelizard to him. "He sees speckles, a mottled face, a Trill no doubt. The queen won't give him a name, and demands to know who he belongs to."

He looked up at Drew. "That's all he's getting, Im sorry."

"Aeris is getting the same demand," Saarok called from the other side of the bridge, "but the queen is definately her junior, thus Aeris is the ranking queen. What shall we tell them?"

"If Aeris ranks her," Tedak suggested, "then she should tell her not to make demands on a senior queen firelizard. Have her tell Aeris who she is and who she belongs to."

"She has," Saarok said softly, "Aeris says the queen belongs to an Admiral."

"Impossible!" Tedak exclaimed, "Admiral Lin impressed a bronze, the queen fled to Qualinost. She was the first to hatch, Magellan impressed a bronze!" He gazed at Drew, expectantly. "next course of action admiral?" he enquired.

The second Sabre class vessel, almost an exact mirror of the Copenhagen approached on a careful almost cautious vector.
The vessel seemed darker than the standard Starfleet light grey and there seemed to be extra phaser stips running dorsally and ventrally. It halted just on the edge of the Short Range Sensors.
On its bridge an Admiral sat tensley beside his crew.
The speckles that ran down his forehead and neck were dark and ringed in a light tan. Lt Tomal likened it to those of a giraffe though never to the Admiral, lest he spent another hour in an agony booth.
"Well" the Admiral growled menacingly.
"Its its..." Stammered the young ensign at the science station. "It looks like one of ours, but its not. Metallic signature is wrong, hull markings wrong"
"I see. An Alliance trick?"
"No sir" A crisp response came from Tactical "Not at all sir lifesigns pick up 1 Klingons and no Cardassians aboard. In fact there are many species aboard, Bajoran, Human, Romulan even."
"And yet its not an Imperial Vessel." teh Admiral mused.
"No sir"
"That leaves one possibility then. It must be the Rebels, that corrupt parasite and his crew. Arm weapons and prepare to attack."
"But sir. Our orders are to monitor and counter Alliance ships in this sector"
The admiral pulled out a phaser and vapourised the poor ensign.
"No one questions my orders." He grunted, "Now attack that ship. I want it disabled and boarded and then I want them to tell us where that Lin worm is hiding"
"But sir, we have reports of him on the planet. Our ground forces..." The second ensign trailed of realisng he was next.
"No buts, NO ONE evades Admiral Norat. NO ONE"

“At last!” Marine Captain Zhukarak Hrisvalar was elated when he read his message on his terminal screen. *12 Peregrine fighters delivered from Lya Station Alpha shipyard.*

It was about time. Training in the holodeck could only go so far.

=/\= Lieutenant Tomlinson. This is Captain Hrisvalar. The squadron of fighters has arrived. =/\=

=/\= So I have noticed. I’m already on my way for a little test ride. =/\=

=/\= I shall meet you in the fighter bay. Captain Hrisvalar out. =/\=

It was clear that Lt Tomlinson wasn’t happy to have Zhukarak along. He didn’t bother to inform him of the fighter arrivals, and that he was on his way to check them out. Zhuk kept a mental note of this.

“Come Theel’zhiin! We shall have a test ride of our own.” Theel’zhiin flew directly onto Zhuk’s shoulder with a chirp of excitement, which gave off a pleasant sensation within Zhuk’s body.

At the fighter bay, Zhukarak met up with Lt Tomlinson and they proceeded to check out one of the fighters together.

“Boy! They sure are pretty. They can hold max warp speed of 5.1 for 4 hours. Maximum cruise is 4.5 with 4 being normal for fuel and systems efficiency.” Lt Tomlinson was like a new cadet on his first flight training.

“Yes. The Peregrine class fighter/interceptor has one Type IV phaser canon in the nose, and one on each wing. It also has two micro photon torpedo tubes with a total of 10 torpedoes. As you can see, Lieutenant, I have read over the specifications.”

“That you have, Cpt Hrisvalar. Do a preflight on that one over there. Let’s take these baby’s for a spin.”

Zhuk thought over the expression ‘taking them for a spin’and figured that the lieutenant meant a test flight.

He walked over to the next fighter and did his external checks. Theel’zhiin had hopped on up into the open cockpit and was sitting on the ledge awaiting Zhuk to get in. Zhukarak climbed up and into the cockpit. He adjusted his seat for his size and strapped in.

“Theel’zhiin. You will have to await my return. There is not enough room in here if I am to manipulate these controls inflight.” Theel’zhiin understood and poof had disappeared. Zhuk wasn’t quite sure whereto, but was sure that he would be safe.

Zhuk turned on power and performed his checks. Shields, check. Weapons, check. Rate of power distribution to the engines, check. Everything seemed to be normal.

“Lt Tomlinson. I am ready for launch.”

“Okay, Hrisvalar. I’ll check in with flight control. For this flight I am Perry One and you’re Green One. Get it, Perry Green for Peregrine. Plus I figured you’d like the Green part for your marine self. Haha!”

Zhuk was perplexed…he stood by for their takeoff.

T'Val slowly approached the admiral, and placed her hands on his shoulders. "You are too tense," she whispered in his ear, "you will find Lin, and soon. It is possible those rebels know where he is. Your firelizard told mine there are others aboard that vessel, at least four. Firelizards know a lot of things, you could use your queen to extract the information from him."

She walked around him, examining the spots running down the sides of his face. ~he is nothing like my Lin, but he is hansome~ she thought privately, carefully shielding her thoughts ~too bad he is not on our side~ "It will only be a matter of time before we conquer the rebels. Let me practice my skills on those on the shuttle, they will reveal everything before I am done with them."

She knelt before him and looked up, smiling. "Please?" It was her job to interrogate people, and she currently was the best there was, if it came to getting people to reveal information the average interrogator could not extract. However, she didn't like working for Norat, but if she didn't want to give herself away, she had to play this game.
Re: MISSION 2.1 REFLECTIONS - Mission Thread
Post by Magellan Lin on Feb 18th, 2005, 5:46pm

Norat stared at T'Val a moment. She really did seem to relish her work. Interrogation and covert ops agreed with her.
"Take a shuttlepod. Our ground troops on Qualinost located a rebel base on the planet, they were unable to cleanse it before the Alliance forces arrived. Its somewhat of a stalemate down there now, a three way free for all. But I think you have enough skill to get in there."
"Of course I do" T'Val replied curtly
"We'll cover your departure and deall with this vessel."
T Val nodded and departed the bridge.
"Weapons to full. Bring us to bear open Comms"
"Comms Open."
"This is Admiral Norat of the Terran Empire to unknown Sabre. Surrender now or be destroyed. You have 1 minute to power down and prep your airlock for boarding."
Re: MISSION 2.1 REFLECTIONS - Mission Thread
Post by Sonak Reckus/S'reena /Tedak on Feb 20th, 2005, 2:33pm

T'Val knew that Norat expected her to infiltrate and deal with the rebels. She had arranged for a battered shuttle, hoping that those on the vessel bearing the odd markings would take her aboard. Her skin-tight red leather outfit squeeked and croaked as she jogged down to the shuttle bay. She shot a glare at anyone who dared to look at anything but her face.

Soon, her shuttle took off, setting a direct course for Qualinost and she began her descent to the planet's surface. She didn't know who exactly was on the planet, but her bronze firelizard had detected Magellan's queen even though Norat's bronze had not. Soon, she would be with Magellan again though she also hated betraying Norat. Despite his oddities and his will to destroy the rebels, she rather liked him. Yet, she loved the Trill rebel and she would do just about anything for him.

She landed her shuttle a few kilometers away from the domes. Her outfit denoted her status, and she was feared among most of the rebels. She had extracted information from many of them for Norat's use, and she would still do her job, but there were a select few she would not touch. She was greeted by Lin's personal guards, who barred her entrance into one of the smaller domes. her bronze squawked in protest, and soon the protest of a golden firelizard was added.

"you may enter," the left guard said, and she strode on.

"Norat is in orbit," she told Magellan upon arrival, "and he expects me to deliver information." She touched his cheek in caress. "Actually, he expects me to deliver you to him, he does not know about us nor will he ever. But I must return to him soon, or he will grow suspiscious of me. He thinks I am his, and I am letting him believe it."

She saw his expression harden. "Ah, do not worry. I feel nothing for him. I belong to you, no-one else."

On the Copenhagen‘s bridge, Drew half listened to the discussion about the firelizards, as he currently was under the Operations station, trying to get systems back online.

“Next course of action Admiral?” Tedak asked patiently, from the Science station.

“To get this damn sensor grid back online,” Drew said as he relayed the last few wires, then adding “that should do it,” as he pulled himself up from under the console. Pressing a few controls on the console, he looked up and beamed at Tedak and Saavok, “Systems are back online.”

“Very impressive Admiral,” Saavok answered, “Although I would suggest you change uniform tunics at your earliest connivance.”

Drew looked down at his uniform jacket to see it covered in dust and dirt, even his belt buckle had a dirt mark on it. Drew suspected his face, and hair was also probably covered in dirt.

“You know me Saavok,” he joked, “always hands on.”

“Indeed,” Saavok answered, “so what is our location?”

“Oh boy,” Drew cursed, as he read the sensor out put, “According to this, we have crossed over to the Mirror Universe!”

Re: MISSION 2.1 REFLECTIONS - Mission Thread
Post by Sonak Reckus/S'reena /Tedak on Feb 22nd, 2005, 08:54am

"You're joking right?" Tedak asked, studying Drew's face. "No, you're not joking," he concluded, "so in what version of the mirror universe are we? The same one Kirk and Sisko visited, or a different kind?" The Romulan ambassador wasn't well versed on happenings in the Alternate Universe, even though he had read reports on it. However, those reports had come from the Romulan Empire and those usually gave a wrong image on how things had happened, usually putting the Federation in a bad light. Thus, Tedak generally took reports coming from the Empire lightly, putting more trust in those he received from the Federation Diplomatic Corps.

"Sensors are operational," he reported after a moment of silence, "they are picking up a small craft leaving the vessel that is now appearing before us. I am also receiving a demand for surrender. Course of action, admiral?"

Drew looked across at Tedak, and then with a deep sigh, walked towards the centre seat. He did his best to portray a look of confidence, as was expected of him, the crew would be looking to him for example. In truth, he was uncertain what course of action would be best to take, they just didn’t have enough information about the situation. His attention was distracted by the emergency turbo-lift hatch opening, turning he smiled as he saw Commander Alex Abren pull himself out of the hatch.

“What did I miss?” the First Officer asked, brushing some dirt off from his uniform trousers.

“Not much really, just getting pulled to another universe,” Drew said, “And a demand for our surrender.”

“So that’s what all the shaking was about,” Abren said, “Nice to see the locals are friendly.”

“We could sure use you at Tactical Alex,” Drew told the younger man, “I have no intention of handing over this ship.”

“Good, if you had, I would have to commit a mutiny,” Alex retorted, as he replaced Saavok at Tactical, the Vulcan moved over to stand next to Tedak at Science.

“Admiral, the enemy ship is repeating the order for our surrender,” Tedak said calmly.

“We don’t even know them, and already they are an enemy,” Drew exclaimed in frustration, “We need options people.”

There was a silence around the bridge, as everyone tried desperately to think of the answers.

Magellan sat poring over an optical relay table as T'Val came in.
He looked up at her. The graceful lines of her face, the sharp angles in juxtaposition to the curve of her chin were, well intoxicating.
"T'Val" he greeted warmly a broad grin on his face. She walked over and ran her hand over his cheek, the one upon which a long jagged scar ran from temple to jaw.

"We seem to be okay. The Alliance and Empire seem to be figting out between themselves for the time being. It gives us some leverage"
"Leverage?"
"Okay Time"
"Time is not as available as you might think. I saw Norats ship in orbit, "
Magellans demeanour changed immediatly,
"Norat. Damn him. The only way to stop him pestering him is to put him in his grave."
"Maybe, but he is your...."
"It doesnt matter. I havent thought of him like that since childhood. Envy is a powerful emotion it corrupted him. The day I got Lin was the day he was no longer my brother."
"So what do we do. Eventually one side is going to win and when they do they ll come in here" T'Val replied, changing the subject.
"I dunno" Magellan answered shaking his head wearily "K'ehleyr what do you think we should do, your our master warrior?"

"Aye, aye director, warp 9", the man said and the ship jumped to warp getting further and further away from Assailant, who did not even know they were in their are of space.

“What the hell just happened?” Drew demanded, looking at the empty space that until very recently had been filled by Ambassador Saavok.

“I cannot give an explanation Admiral,” Tedak said, “Perhaps Saavok was kidnapped by our opponent?”

“I am not detecting a transporter trance,” Abren reported, “If he was beamed off, it was with a transporter we have never seen before.

Drew hit the side of his command chair in frustration, first they had gotten lost, and now one of the Federation’s most senior Ambassadors had gone missing, he could only imagine Starfleet’s reactions.

Maybe I have been out of the centre seat too long Drew thought privately to himself.

“Admiral, we are being hailed again,” Abren said slowly, “they are powering weapons as well.”

With no other choice, Drew ordered the message onscreen. The image confirmed his worse nightmares, as a Trill that looked strangely familiar faced him. The man appeared around the same age as Drew, and wore a uniform that was in some ways similar to Drew’s own, expect he wore no Starfleet commbadge, instead an insignia of Earth with a sword through it, was pinned to his chest.

The Trill seemed to look as shocked and surprised as Drew did, and then a strange thing happened, the Trill smiled.

“Drew is that really you?”

“I am Paul Drew, yes,” Drew answered slowly, very confused.

“My friend, we thought you were dead, along with the others from the Fang.”

At those words, an old memory came to Drew of an old Fang mission, one where they had encountered their mirror universe counterparts, who had tried to steal the Fang. Drew had been forced to kill his counterpart during a fierce fight in Engineering.

“But, those markings you wear, they are not of the Empire,” the Trill’s voice was starting to become suspicious, “Who are you?”

“I am Rear Admiral Paul Drew, of the United Federation of Planets Starship USS Copenhagen,” Drew answered truthfully.

Admiral Drew?” the man repeated, “Admiral.”

“And you are?” Drew asked, but the man’s face had erupted in rage.

“How foolish of me to believe you were my fallen comrade, resin from the ashes like the phoenix, I see now you are the murderous false ghost of the great Paul Drew, and now for your crimes, and to avenge my brother, I shall kill you.”

The screen went dark, all eyes on the bridge turned to face Drew.

“What was all that about?” Abren asked.

“Let’s just say I met my own counterpart before,” Drew told him, “And one of us didn’t live to tell the tale.”

“Admiral,” Tedak called out in surprise, “More ships are approaching, and they appear to be Klingon.”

“Klingon?” Drew repeated, “Of course, here the Alliance rule.”

“Whoever that guy was, his ship is now targeting the Klingons rather than us,” Abren called out, hope in his voice, “This could be our chance to escape.”

“Agreed,” Drew said, “Helm, prepare for the Picard manoeuvre, then set a course to hide us behind the nearest planetary body, we can hide there.”

As the Copenhagen roared into warp, it appeared to the naked eye that the small ship hadn’t moved from its position, however suddenly the ship seemed to disappear, without a trance.

OCC:

For those not familer with the Picard manoeuvre, it was the tactic Picard used to save the Stargazer once. The ship basically goes into a warp speed jump, leaving behind a visual echo of the ship, which can fool the enemy into not noticing the ship has warped away.

T'Val shot an annoyed glance at K'Ehleyr; she didn't like the Klingon woman nor did she trust her one bit in the presence of Magellan. "Norat will be getting impatient, he does not know I know you personally, nor does he know you are here," she said, "but he does suspect it, his ship is in orbit. Soon, he will expect me back...and with something to tell him. He thinks I am his woman, and I am letting him believe that."

At the tightening of his jaws, she kissed him lightly. "Do not worry, he will not lay hands on me, not like I allow you to. He will forever envy you, because you are what he will never become however much he tries."

She looked past Magellan at a few loyal guards. "I could torture one of them, they will never betray you, but it will give Norat something vital he can check, even though he will remain in the dark about your whereabouts. However, I would gladly kill him for you, I can easily achieve that....and I will not get caught either."

The training flights of the new fighter pilots had been, for the most part, uneventful. Zhukarak had to ensure that proper formations were maintained for their combat patrols.

Even during their defensive maneuver drills certain positions were required to maintain each pilots’ security by his or her wingman or flight leader. No pilot was to fly solo, unless he wanted to risk being shot down.

A week had passed. The animosities between Lt Tomlinson and Zhukarak had subsided some as mutual respect had been earned.

“Theel’zhiin! You have grown quite a bit.” Zhukarak observed of his companion firelizard. Theel’zhiin was now about 40cm tall, with another 40cm for his tail. Zhuk had grown quite fond of him, as had Theel’zhiin of Zhuk.

*Beep* A message came through in his quarters. Zhukarak went to his terminal to read it.

=> Major Hrisvalar! Please report back to the Nevada. We will be underway in about a week and preparations for our next mission are in need of completion. <=> You will be pleased to know that we have some new crewmembers among the command staff. A couple of new graduates and some seasoned veterans as well. <=> Oh yes! Congratulations on your promotion. Sorry we weren’t all available here at the Nevada for proper ceremonies, not that you care for large parties anyways. <=> Admiral Lin is aware of your returning to the Nevada. See you soon, Captain Jira! <=

“Well Theel’zhiin. It seems our services are in need back home.” Theel’zhiin squawked with excitement, knowing they were about to embark on a new adventure.

As the Copenhagen jumped to warp, all systems suffered a powersurge, causing sensors to jump online for only a few seconds. "Admiral, sensors just registered the planet, identifying it as Qualinost!" Tedak suddenly cried, pointing at the readout on his screen.

He bent forward to study the readings in detail. "Sensors also picked up several buildings," he continued his report, "but I cannot identify them. They don't appear to be inhabited though, but that could very well be caused by a sensor mask. Whoever is down there doesn't want to be found."

“Well, we have the most advanced sensor system in the entire Starfleet,” Drew told her confidently, “Given time, I am sure we will be able to discover who, or what is down there.”

“Aye Admiral,” Tedak replied, although his voice lacked Drew’s confidence.

Drew gave the Ambassador a smile as he walked back over to the centre chair, “Optimism Ambassador, Optimism.”

The planet on the forward screen did indeed show signs of inhabitance, although the buildings appeared pretty abandon, “the perfect base,” Drew said quietly to himself.

“Sir?” young Ensign Jenkins asked at the helm, well within hearing distance of Drew.

“Don’t mind me Mr. Jenkins,” Drew said kindly, “Talking to ones self is a sign of old age.”

“Speaking of old, the battle out there seems fierce,” Abren said from Tactical, “I have never seen such desperate tactics.”

“My understanding is the Alliance, the Empire, and the Resistance have been at war for almost a hundred years,” Drew said, “We may very well have just entered a true war zone.”

“Question is, how do we get back?” Abren asked.

“Simple really,” Drew said in a cheery tone, “We find out how we got here, Ambassador Tedak, care to join me in the science lab?”

“I have nothing better to do,” Tedak said in a dry tone.

“That’s what I like to hear,” Drew said, as he stood from his chair, and headed for the turbolift, “Commander Abren, the bridge is yours.”

Drew and Tedak both entered the small compact science lab, and headed straight for the large control console in the centre of the room.

“Computer, display planet below us,” Drew instructed the ship bound computer, “Begin a detailed scan of the planet, look for any signs of life.”

“Processing,” the cool voice of the Starfleet computer answered.

“Remarkable,” Tedak commented, looking a the planet shown on the holographic screen that had popped up, “It looks just like Qualinost.”

“A lot of things here will look familiar to us,” Drew told the Romulan Ambassador, “the important thing is too remember this is not our universe, no matter how much things look like home, it isn’t.”

“Indeed,” Tedak agreed, “I have read most discouraging things about this area of space, it seems very dangerous.”

“And unpredictable,” Drew added, “Anything could happen to us out here, and no one back home would know.”

“A distressing thought,” Tedak answered in a low voice, Drew wondered if he was thinking about T’Val, and their child, just like Drew’s thoughts had been with his family.

“We will get back,” Drew told Tedak, with perhaps more confidence then he felt, “I promise you that.”

The two were silent for the last few minutes of the computer scan, both were deep in thought about their private affairs, and how they may never again see their loved ones.

“Scan complete,” the computer announced, breaking the silence.

“Display results,” Drew said, trying to keep any emotion from his voice.

A large amount of text, and images appeared on the screen in front of Drew, with years of experience, Drew quickly absorbed the information.

“There is a base of some sort down there,” he said slowly, “I would have to describe the technology has less advanced Federation, maybe sixties years of so behind our current level.”

“Why do you say Federation?” Tedak asked, confused.

“Because, it is Federation technology,” Drew answered, “or at least what passes for Federation in this place.”

“Are there people down there?” Tedak said.

“The scan’s couldn’t get a firm reading,” Drew replied, “There is only way to find out.”

“And that is?”

“Go down there,” Drew answered, “Let’s get an away team together, its time to start finding some answers.”

Magellan rolled his head from side to side, his muscles aching, it felt as if he hadnt slept for all of his 6 lives. T Val noted and moved round behind him. She slipped her hands on to his neck and began to work loose the tension.
"We should be spending this time preparing" K'Ehlryer growled.
"Preparing for what?" Magellan sighed "We have fewer than 30 people able to fight nearly three times that many of women and children. We have two opponents more than happy to tear us to shreds. Tell me what is the point."
"Death. Death is the point. I will die with honour."
"We'll all die."
"We all die in the end."
"For a Trill that is not the same."
"There maybe something we can exploit." T Val suggested,
"Go on." Magellan asked raisning a hand to hold hers.
"Just before I left Norat we detected another ship, neither Alliance nor Empire, and yet is was identical to a sabre class."
"And how does this help us"
"I dont know yet. But leave it to me."
"Yeah leave it to your pet manipulator." K'Ehlryer growled, "I m gonna check the perimeter again."

"Someday, I will kill her for her insolence love," T'Val told Magellan as the Klingon woman walked away. "The ship in orbit registers as the USS Copenhagen. Soon I must return to Norat, but first I shall check the ship out. If they can assist us, I will make it appear that they crash on Qualinost, thus letting Norat believe that they were of danger to him. He will not like it, most likely punish me for it, but so be it. Anything for your safety."

She continued to massage his shoulders and peered at the golden firelizard that landed on his lap. Her own bronze sat nearby, preening his wings. "There are firelizards on that vessel," she suddenly said, and noticed that Magellan's queen had just informed him of the same. "That may be extremely useful." She kissed him lightly and smoothed the leather of her outfit. "I will not be too long. If you do not hear from me in three hours, there is going to be trouble from Norat's end."

She brushed two fingers past his temple in affection before walking off. A few years earlier, she had been promised to a Romulan, but the man had died in an unfortunate accident. Then she had met the Trill, and she had instead been promised to him. Then he had proven to be a rebel, and she was then assigned to Norat. But she had taken to love Magellan, and despise Norat, but she would continue to perform her act as long as necessary, for the safety of the rebels.

Her shuttle was still where she parked it, and soon she was on a trajectory towards the Copenhagen. "Unknown vessel, lower your shields and prepare to be boarded," she transmitted, audio only, "you are in violation of spaceal agreements, therefor your ship will be confiscated."

She wanted the ship to fire on her shuttle and take her in, she could not just request docking, for she knew Norat would be listening in. Targeting their deflector shield, she fired her disruptors at it at full intensity. "This was just a warning," she transmitted, "next targed will be life support systems."

“Admiral, are you sure that is wise?” Tedak asked with concern, “We have no idea what we might encounter!”

“That’s the whole point of space exploration,” Drew answered with a smile.

“To risk ones life worthlessly?” Tedak replied, “I think Starfleet might disagree with that.”

“Maybe,” Drew laughed, “But Starfleet isn’t here.”

Suddenly the deck shook violently, causing Drew and Tedak to fall, Drew felt his arm break as he landed on it in an awkward position.

“What is happening?” Tedak asked, pulling himself back to his feet.

“We are under attack,” Drew said through gritted teeth as he tried to ignore the pain in his arm.

“You are injured,” Tedak noted, “You should report to sickbay.”

“Admiral Drew report to the bridge,” came Abren’s voice over the comm system.

“On my way,” Drew answered, and then looked at Tedak, “Bridge first, sickbay later.”

Up on the bridge, Drew saw a small ship on the viewscreen, heading directly for the Copenhagen; he relieved Abren from the centre seat and asked for a report.

“Lock a tractor beam on them, and drag them into the shuttle bay,” Drew said after Abren had finished, “Let’s get a security team and go and meet our new guest.”

ooc: as promised I'll post in two places until this mission is over.....as here I post as alternate T'Val intead of the real one.

T'Val was pleased to find that they locked a tractorbeam on her shuttlecraft and pulled it into their hangarbay. Of course she would make it appear as if she were trying to break free from it, just to make Norat believe that she was being taken against her will.

Once her shuttle was safely placed in the hangarbay, T'Val exited her shuttle, only to be met by a security squad. She smiled as she noticed their eager glances on her body; her outfit quite accentuated every curve. "You will take me to your leader," she demanded, tucking her gloves between the belt of her outfit, as well as the rod she had been holding.

Instantly she was seized roughly on either side and practically dragged away. She shook them off and glared at them. "I can walk by myself thank you, this is no way to treat a woman." She cuffed the guard on her left soundly and he winced as her flat hand caught him right across his cheek. The others stared at her in surprise, this was not the general behaviour of a Vulcan. "Take me to your leader," she demanded again.

This time, the guards just nodded and didn't attempt to touch her again. One of them walked ahead of her and the two guards on her side and went to warn Drew of their 'guest' and her temper.

Magellan made another lap of the perimter. Everyday he ran around the defences, partially to keep fit and toned but partially to let the people see him. He knew that the key to control was charisma, and being seen to do the right thing regardless of whether you did or not, it was something Toran had been good at. That man could talk a fish out of the sea.
They were in a delicate position, assualted on all sides. If the Empire didnt get them the Alliance would. He had heard of the Bajoran Wormhole. A way to reach a region of space where neither lived. He would get his people there by hook or by crook.
If it meant seizing this new ship, killing every man on board then he would do it. He would keep his people safe. He had offered them freedom and they would get it.

T'Val roughtly shoved the two guards aside, and strode forward onto the bridge then halted where she stood. She was surprised to see Drew sitting in the centre chair, his face contorted by pain. She was even more surprised to find her former fiancé alive and well. "Well well well," she said, her voice little more than a sneer, "look what the cat dragged in. It is that my master needs your assistance, otherwise I would deliver you to his brother.......to which I must return shortly with a report, however much I wish to return to the planet."

She strode forward and grabbed Drew's arm. Drew yelped in return as he felt the two halves of the broken bone grind past another. "Ah do not be such a baby human! It is a clean break." She jabbed a finger at one of the guards. "You, find me two splints and clean cloth."

Tedak stood gawking at the Vulcan woman, who resembled his bondmate. He knew instantly that this red-leather clad woman was very unlike his bondmate, more ruthless and less compassionate. Brown Nut chittered at her bronze, and even Saarok's queen seemed angry at the intrusion of the strange bronze.

T'Val turned to the romulan. "Tell yours to shut up, he may betray us to the firelizards on Norat's vessel, and the last thing you lot want is for Norat to find out." She turned back to Drew. "Now this is what I want you to do...." She started, as she deftly, but without tenderness and care, wrapped up his injured arm, "I must return to Norat. He believes I work for him, but I work for Magellan Lin. You must go to him and help him defeat Norat. You have deftly damaged my shuttle, which is well. You must injure me and then send me back into space, disabling my shuttle, otherwise Norat will not believe you to be evil. I will fire a last shot at your vessel, upon you must feign being disabled and go off course to Qualinost. Magellan will be waiting for you."

“How about no?” Drew told T’Val’s counterpart bluntly, “Where I come from, my people have strict rules about non-interface in other cultures.”

Drew was surprised to see the rage that briefly flashed in T’Val’s eyes, clearly this woman was nothing like the one he knew, to the side of the command chair, Tedak was also watching T’vVal intently, perhaps wondering how like his bond mate she really was.

“Then Norat will destroy you,” T’Val answered ruthlessly.

“If I help his enemy he will also try to destroy me,” Drew pointed out, “We have scanned Norat’s ship, although it appears similar to our own, our ship does have the more advanced systems, Norat is no threat to us.”

“He has other ships Admiral, do not be so gullible to think he is alone, as you are.”

Drew eyed T’Val suspiciously; clearly this woman was a double agent of some kind, working for both Lin and Norat, in Drew’s own experience, double agents were only interested in their own well being, it was likely she would betray both her masters, for the right price.

“Tell me who Magellan Lin is,” Drew said calmly, deliberately not looking at T’Val, but instead looking at the viewscreen, better the Vulcan female didn’t know of Drew’s own associations with another Magellan Lin.

“Why should I tell you anything?” T’Val demanded.

“Because, unless you do, I wont help you, I’ll go to Norat myself, tell him all about your little scam.”

Fear flashed across T'Val's face for a second, but long enough for Drew to notice. "No no, you must not," she said, her gaze flicking from Drew to Tedak, past everyone else on the bridge back to Drew. If he would inform Norat, everything would have been for nothing and all their planning would have been in vain. "Magellan supports neither the Empire nor the Alliance. Norat wants him dead because Magellan was chosen for the Lin symbiont. Magellan also leads the rebels against the Empire."

She looked at Drew nervously, praying he'd let her go to pursue her plan. Norat must be deceived and defeated. "I would trust Magellan with my life," she said, "and I work for him. Norat, however, believes that I work for him, which in return works well for Magellan. Norat trusts me, he thinks I am his woman...I belong with Magellan. You must do as I suggest, or we will all be dead. Once your ship lands on Qualinost, you will be safe." Her bronze chirped nervously; it was fortunate that Norat had never Impressed one of the useful creatures.

"You must," T'Val pressed, "he will destroy you if you do not follow my suggestion. You must make him think that I was captured, and that I escaped, and that I disabled your shuttle, causing it to 'crash', just before you nearly destroy mine."

Drew studied T’Val carefully, the woman had obviously never played poker before, she had just revealed to Drew what a weak position she was in, and had now given Drew a chance to exploit that weakness. Although the Copenhagen was more than a match for Norat’s ship, Drew couldn’t take the chance that reinforcements could arrive, and avoiding a full on confrontation was always the best way, especially when they didn’t even know how to get home yet.

For now perhaps the best way to proceed was to do as T’Val requested, and land the ship down on the planet, there Drew’s people could go over the sensor logs in peace, and Drew could perhaps get some extra support for getting home.

“Very well Ms. T’Val,” Drew said, noticing the brief look of shock on T’Val’s face, she hadn’t given Drew her name, so now she was no doubt realising that just as she knew Drew and Tedak’s counterparts, they knew of her too.

“You will do as I say?” T’Val said.

“More or less,” Drew answered, “I will have my people simulate a massive systems failure, and ‘crash’ into the planet, from there, I will see where events take me.”

“You will help Magellan,” T’Val concluded.

“Admiral,” Tedak said forcefully, clearly upset at seeing his bond-mate, “I feel it is my duty to remind you of the prime directive.”

Drew looked up at Tedak, meaning he had to turn away from T’Val, he gave the Romulan Ambassador a wink, and turned back to face T’Val.

“Just carry out your end Ms. T’Val, and leave the rest to us,” Drew said, letting a hint of aggression come into his voice, “Now, in keeping with our new relationship, get the hell off my ship, Imperial Spy!”

The bronze on the Vulcan's shoulder squawked in anger, as T'Val herself felt her anger rise again. How had they known who she was? Yet, she hadn't missed the Romulan's glances in her direction, was it possible that in the other universe, they had stayed together? " But..." she started, as the two guards grabbed her arms yet again, but Drew's harsh voice was unmistakable and relentless, but she wondered if he would really do as she had asked.

The guards near to literally threw her back into her shuttle, upon which she cold started the engines of the small vessel and set out into space. The rough handling of the guards had torn the valuable leather of her outfit, which rather please T'Val, as it would certainly upset Norat. She set course straight for the admiral's vessel, feeling the tremor of phaser fire rake across the hull of the small craft. Shields had been disabled, and now she was vulnerable to destruction.

For a moment, fear passed through her; would the human actually let her go, or would he destroy her? She sighed with relief as tractorbeams of Norat's vessel caught her shuttlecraft and pulled it in.

Off: I'm back, sorta lol couldn’t stay away from you guys for too long and as soon as I found some time I’m back, well at least as Saarok since he was only on a LOA So I hope you don't mind be just jumping back in here lol I'll think of something for where did I disappear of to.

On:

-- Somewhere over the rainbow....lol --

Saarok slowly came back to the world of awareness. He was not certain how long he was absent for the real world but it seemed a lot especially with the, dream, a dream he had a dream which felt like it was much, much more than a dream. But now being awake again it would appear it was nothing more, or was it? He felt hollow in some way but he was not able to explain it yet, but he was hoping, he was hoping? Something must be so terribly wrong, Vulcans do not hope. He shook his head as he slowly rose from the ground.

He looked around the room, it was not a room more likely a cave of some sort, he noticed that the walls were painted with, what appeared to be works of early stone age drawings like those that could be found on Earth in the Lascaux caves in the continent of Europe. As he turned again he saw that his firelizards appeared out of nowhere.

Where have you two been, he thought but the creatures could not answer his thought as they, like him were not aware how they from the bridge of the Copenhagen managed to end up in this cave on who knows where. He looked at the ground which was covered by soft red sand,, and he was able to make out footprints of some 5 to 6 people, perhaps those who brought him here, they were leading towards the entrance/exit of the cave. Seeing he was not going to discover anything new inside he decided to head out.

--Somewhere over the rainbow - cave entrance--

As he exited the cave he saw that it was day time, but there was something awfully familiar about the planet he was on in the correlation with the sun and other ground markers but then again something awfully odd and peculiar. He began to walk away from the cave - direction unknown. Hoping he would encounter someone who would help him. There was that hope again, how could this be what happened to him that he began to hope all of a sudden.

Perhaps his mental blockade had degraded due to the events that took place over the last few weeks, beginning with his memory loss over the recent unexplained appearance inside of an unknown cave. He looked up at the sky and noticed something that appeared like a meteor descending from the sky, but it could have also been a ship he did not know it at that time so he decided to proceed towards its point of landing or crashing depending on what the object is, according to his estimate the object landed not more than about 9 miles from his location. As it would be illogical for him to make an error of more than 0.000087% he proceeded to the assumed crash site.

Post by Saarok on Mar 16th, 2005, 8:07pm

--Somewhere over the rainbow - traveling to the crash site--

Saarok was, step by step, making way towards the assumed crash site. While he was walking he was considering the chances he had in making it out alive should he encounter a hostile beeing on his way to the designated location. And the odds were not so bad, as he had his firelizards to aid him. He knew time and distance he needs to pass, would seem shorter if he kept his mind occupied with a problem.

But one things he could not get was how did he end up on this planet, there was no logical solution or answer to it at least none was there at present. It all seemed like a logical loop......

--Somewhere over the rainbow - encounter with lt. Hanigan or not ?--

As Saarok was getting closer and closer to his goal the area surrounding him began to change, and he could notice some sort of bunkers or houses in the distance. Soon after, he approached something that appeared like a defense perimeter.

"Hold it right there", a man said. And two of his companions pulled out their weapons.

Saarok stood for a moment studying the mans face and after that he spoke,

"Lt. Hanigan, do you not recognize me?", he asked

"How do you know my name Vulcan, I have never seen you before in my life", Hanigan said

This is peculiar Saarok thought, how is it possible that he does not remember me? There is something odd transpiring here. After a few moments Saarok heard one of Hanigans companions speak in a low voice, trembling with fear.

"Eh, sir... um I .... I.....think I know who this Vulcan is."

"Well then out with it man"; Hanigan responded

"Saarok - Telar - Jitlava", the man answered swallowing

"You mean the assassin wanted both by the empire and the rebel forces?", Hanigan asked

The man nodded yes.

"Mr. Jitlava I presume", Hanigan spoke again

"Surrender or die", he said pointing his weapon at Saarok, his companions did the same

Seeing that at present he did not wish to fight them, Saarok willingly surrendered to the group. After another set of discussions they decided to take him to Magellan. Saarok was hoping that he would be able to shine some light on the peculiar events of the last few hours.

On the bridge of the Copenhagen…

“Blue alert,” Drew ordered, taking his command chair, “Prepare for planetary landing.”

All around the bridge, the lights dimmed as if the ship was on red alert, except this time the blue alarm lights flashed, there was a hushed silence around the entire bridge, although it was now becoming more common for Starships to land, it was still a difficult thing to do.

“Captain,” Commander Abren said quietly, “The Copenhagen hasn’t been landed since the refit.”

“Time to test out the Engineering Corps then,” Drew said, waving aside Abren’s fears, “We have to land on that planet.”

Abren turned back to the tactical console, and shook his head in despair, there was just too many variables in the mission plan for his liking, and Drew just didn’t seem to care.

“Start simulating engine problems,” Drew continued to order from the centre seat, “Make it seem like we are in serious trouble, start flying erratic, and release some drive plasma.”

Minutes later, the Copenhagen was entering the atmosphere of Qualinost, appearing to the naked eye to be in serious distress, even if the ship was scanned, training programs were running that reported the ship was about to crash.

“Shall I start unlocking the landing gears?” the helm officer asked, matter-of-factly.

“Not yet,” Drew said, “Wait until the last possible second.”

“Admiral,” Abren said, speaking up again, “If we wait any longer, we won’t need to simulate a crash!”

“Trust me,” Drew answered, “Helm, wait for my mark.”

The bridge started to shake as the Copenhagen violently descended towards the planets surface, the helm officer’s expert hands could be seen flying across the panel, trying to keep the ship safe, while at the same time carrying on the pretence of danger.

“Unlock landing gear,” Drew finally ordered, when the ship was far enough away from Norat’s sensors that Drew was sure they couldn’t be traced. The entire bridge crew seemed to let out a sigh of relief as the Copenhagen gently touched down.

“Right, time for a little away mission,” Drew said, in what appeared to be a cheery voice, “Commander Abren, the ship is yours, I’ll be taking a small security team, Ambassador Tedak, I want you to accompany us, for all intents and purposes, this will be a first contact mission.”

“Admiral,” Abren said, this time not keeping the disagreement from his voice, “Regulations clearly state you are to remain on the ship.”

“Commander, if Captain’s can’t get me to stay sitting down, you don’t stand a chance,” Drew dismissed the officers concerns, “Everything will be fine, if not, then do everything you can to get the ship home.”

And before the First Officer could object again, Drew led his small team, including Tedak to the shuttle bay.

Soon the team were travelling along the surface in one of Starfleets new ground vehicles, heading for where sensor readings indicated the best location to find a base would be, suddenly alarms started to beep on the control board.

“What’s that?” Tedak asked, concerned.

“We have company,” the officer who was driving the vehicle, reported, “An air craft is approaching.”

“Try and find us some cover,” Drew ordered, looking up the skies, he could see what appeared to be a old Starfleet shuttle heading towards them at high speed.

“They are locking weapons!” the security guard exclaimed.

“Increas…” Drew never finished his order, as phaser fire impacted on the small vehicle, sending the entire team into darkness.

Sometime later…

A bright light shone in Drew’s eyes, forcing him to open his eyes, and then shield them. His throat was very dry, and his broken arm was again hurting.

“Where am I?” he managed to say.

“Where you were always meant to be,” an all too familiar voice answered, the hairs on Drew’s back stood on end as he recognised that voice, he tried to turn his head, but he found that he was unable to move.

“That really is pointless,” his captor said slowly, walking into Drew’s eye shoot, Drew looked into those familiar eyes and saw pure evil. And then the pain began, as that evil voice laughed out loud.

The sound of anxious keening brought Tedak back to reality. He was lying on his stomach, covered by debris and his leg was caught between a beam and the deck. Carefully, he crawled from under the debris, trying not to cry out as his right leg would not support his weight.

When he slumped back down to the deck, he gazed into two sets of eyes that were frantically whirling a mix of red and yellow. "I'm fine, I'm fine," he assured his duo of firelizards, but they would not stop keening. "Quiet," Tedak told them, and on this command they fell quiet.

Looking around, his eye fell on a large pipe that had come falling down when the ship crashed. Oddly enough it had a dent in such way that it could be comfortably used as a walking cane. Clenching his teeth, he got to his feet and started limping away. "Admiral!" he yelled, then was sent sprawling as he tripped over something.

He twisted to look back and cried out in shock as he was staring in the nothing seeing eyes of Commander Abren. He crawled back to he man and gently closed his eyes. Then he got back to his feet. Besides him, and the dead commander, there was no-one left in the ship. "Admiral!" he yelled again, "Admiral Drew!"

At last, he limped over to the nearest compartiment in the wall - or what was left of them - and pulled out a phaser. "Useless," he muttered, as he tossed the badly damaged weapon away, then pulled his Honor Blade from the folds in his robes. With the pipe in one hand, and his weapon in the other, he exited the ship and went in search for Admiral Drew.

-- Somewhere over the rainbow - brig? --

After a while Saarok found himself locked inside, something that appeared to be some sort of a holding station. The guards have brought him here and locked him inside while they went to fetch Magellan, who was, at least Saarok hopped, not acting strangely. There it was again he was hoping again. Seeing he did not have anything else to do while waiting for Magellan to arrive he sat on the floor and prepared to begin his meditation.

It has been a while since he meditated properly and it started to get to him, but hopefully he would be able to keep his emotions under control with some meditation. He closed his eyes and began concentrating on the events, past, present and future. He could sense his id was slowly taking over for the ego and superego but hopefully this was all he needed to get them back into balance.

Magellan was rattled too many things were happening too fast. From suddenly being under threat of destruction they were now in a lull. The Alliance and Empire were fighting themselves to a standstill and now a ship appears, a ship that could very well take them to their promised land.
K'Ehlryr came and informed him of an imposter in the region, the vulcan, a spy no doubt for the renewed Empire had been found out near the caves.
"I ll interrogate him myself"
Magellan strode from the simple command centre, "assemble everyone, we need to be ready to move the minute T Val has lured this ship down to land. I ll be back soon"

Magellan went directly down in to the depths of the hab dome to the converted cells.
He motioned for the guards to move aside and let him see the Vulcan.
The man seemed oddly dressed for one of the Empire but that meant little to Magellan, he wouldnt fall for any Empire tricks not like Toya had, and trills never forgot.
"Who are you"
The Vulcan seemed to snap out of a sort of trance, a far away look inhis eye.
"Oh Magellan" Saarok began to say and was then reminded by the mans attire that this was not the Magellan he knew.
"You know me Vulcan?" Magellan asked his voice dripping with scorn.
"Of sorts"
"Bah, What are you here for?"
"errm thats actually a long story"
"Shorten it"
"I m not sure that would be prudent"
Magellan grinned, it was not a reassuring sight,
"If you know me, you know who I ve been."
"I have heard of your previous host Toya yes."
"Toya, pah she was weak and the weak do not survive in the universe, Lin was surprised she lasted as long as she did. Give her her due she did manage to terraform this planet for our use. I was referring more to Loran. Former Security Officer on the Alliance Crusier K'Tok"
Saarok looked blankly
"I see, don't know me that well then do you. Lets just say Loran, she was... efficient at information extraction."
Saarok said nothing unsure which way to turn.
"Lets start easily, who do you work for - Alliance or Empire."
"I work for the Federation"
"Hmm the Federation, I unfamiliar with them, a new faction is all we need, I doubt it. Were you sent by Norat to steal my symbiont"
"I do not know any Norat"
Magellan grimaced,
"This is not very productive. Lets step thing up a little. Now if I was Loran I d have a range of drugs to fill you full of. As it is I just have this."
Magellan pulled out a romulan disruptor from his pocket,
"I picked up this little gem just after Romulus fell to the Klingons. Got quite a few settings, I always start on setting 3, gives you 4 trys before I get to the highest setting and disrupt all your cells. Now I m beginning to suspect you maybe from this new ship. Tell me where it is and how I can get aboard, how many crew are there?"
"It would be illogical to fire so many questions at me, I can hardly answer all of them at once"
Magellan bit his lip in annoyance,
"Please spare me, Logic went out before the last Empire. Now nice and simple. Where is your ship?"
"I dont know"
"Wrong answer, Where is your ship?"
"I really do not know"
"Fine, Play hard ball if you like just remember I m not as...welll I dont have the finesse of Loran."
With that Magellan levelled the disruptor and fired, a beam of green light lanced out and struck Saaroks knee.
Saarok grunted as the beam burnt through his trouser leg and seared in to the flesh. Green blood welled up to be instantly cauterised.
"Okay thats was 3, this is 4. Where is your ship?"
" I ll can't tell you what I do not know" Saarok replied calmly using his meditation to ease the pain
Magellan levelled the disruptor.
"Sir." A guards voice came
"What?"
"We think we ve detected a ship, it entered the atmosphere and landed north of here."
"Excellent. looks like I dont need you Vulcan."
With that Magellan swept out of the cell and back up to teh surface

-- Somewhere over the rainbow - firelizards to the rescue --

At some point a silent squeak brought him back to reality, Aeries and her companion were there, and they had somehow managed to open the door. He looked at her and immediately received images of how they managed to get the door open.

"When you are too sure of yourself, you start to make mistakes he said", as he made way out of he improvised holding bay

Accompanied by his two firelizards he made way out of the guards building and was astonished that there weren't any guards around. Perhaps they went of to investigate the crash site, which he could see in the distance. Well my friends let us proceed there ourselves. He thought as he and the firelizards proceeded towards something that appeared to be the debris of a transport vehicle.

-- Somewhere over the rainbow - crash? site --

After he came closer to the crash site he noticed it wasn't a crash site but an explosion site. He also noticed a group of people moving so he quickly took cover in some debris that could be found near by. As they passed him he noticed they were taking someone away but his face was covered and he could not make out who it was. After the distance between the group and him increased enough he got out of the rubble and wiped the dust of his tunic. Just then he noticed a familiar shape moving away from the site.

"Ambassador Tedak, is that you?", he called after him loud enough for Tedak to hear but not enough for the group that couldn't be seen anymore to hear him.

"Saarok?" Tedak called back, trying to catch his balance as he was threatening to stumble over something yet again. He was surprised to hear a voice he hadn't thought of hearing anytime soon again, if ever.

He leaned heavily on his make-shift cane as he waited for the shadowy figure to come closer. "Saarok is that you?" he called again, his voice barely louder than a whisper. He looked up as he saw something golden and something blue flit by, then sweep down to hover in front of him. From his left, brown Nut gave a happy chirp, acknowledging the presence of Saarok's queen firelizard.

"What happened to you?" the Romulan enquired as his Vulcan friend approached, looking haggard and a little pale on the cheeks. "You look as if you've just been through hell and back."

He readily accepted the support Saarok quietly offered, and allowed himself to be helped into the dense forests of Qualinost. All the while, the Vulcan still hadn't said a word. "Saarok, do say something," Tedak requested, "what is going on? Have you seen Admiral Drew?"

Norat watched the approach of T Vals shuttle. It was scored with phaser blasts but otherwise seemed fine.
"Bring her to me when she boards" he snapped.

Moments later T Val appeared bruised and bloodied.
"Well" he asked
"Good news."
"Yeah?"
"Yes I have laid a trap, Lin will be available to you. You need to take the ship down in to the Tauril Canyon. He wont be expecting you to approach from there.
"I see." Norat grinned, "A trap. then"
"Yes. you land and approach in force up teh canyon to attack the domes weak rear."
"I see and what happened to you?" He pointed to the bruises
"Nothing I couldnt handle. I ran in to that otehr vessel, They shouldnt be a problem I escaped them with ease and planted a tracker. We can pick them up after you ve got Lin"
"Very well. Signal general quarters and begin the descent. You better be right my dear or those bruises will be the worst of your troubles."

"Oh I have no doubt," T'Val said bravely, though she was trembling in fear. She knew that Norat would probably mistake that for desire, which was just as well. "Lin his numbers are small, many have deserted him for one faction or the other."

She grimaced as she looked up at him, while wiping the grease and blood from her face. "I just hope that those on the other ship, the one with these 'Federation' markings, will realise who they are up against." She straightened her leather outfit and pressed up her body against Norat's. "The mighty Norat," she whispered, then a worried look crossed her face. "I am gaining Magellan his trust," she confided, "he thinks that I have gone back to you so that you will not miss my service, because he thinks that I am working for him."

She dearly hoped she sounded convincing. Neither man knew of her true plans to unite the two brothers. She also knew that eventually she had to choose, she loved both men, even though she also feared Norat. "I have to go back now," she said, "but I shall await you in the canyon. I promise."

-- Somewhere over the rainbow - forest --

After Saarok thought they were deep enough inside the forest he stopped and helped Tedak sit on a branch of a nearby tree which was just at the right height for someone to sit on it. A few more moments passed before Saarok spoke.

"A lot has transpired since I last saw you, and it still is not clear to me how I ended up on the planet, but I will try to explain what I can.", Saarok started

Tedak looked at him oddly after Saarok said that mixture of words, which lacked order that could usually be found in Saaroks speech but decided not to comment on it as he believed that recent events were the cause of it.

"A few hours ago I woke up in a cave here on Qualinost, not knowing how I ended up there as only a moment ago, at least a moment ago for my perception of time, I was on the bridge of the Copenhagen. It is still not clear to me how I ended up here but that is no relevant at this time.", Saarok continued

"You vanished from the Copenhagen without an explanation a fair amount of time ago", Tedak interrupted

Saarok looked at him then he resumed speaking

"After I got my pieces back together I made way out of the cave and I saw something that appeared to be a landing starship. So I went in the direction of its landing place. But while I was heading there I encountered a military checkpoint guarded by lt. Hanigan, or so I presumed. However the lt. did not recognize me and later when he did he said I was Saarok - Telar - Jitlava a wanted assassin, and they decided to take me to Adm. Magellan or so I presumed. Later when Magellan finally reached me he acted very odd and began interrogating me about the landing site of the Copenhagen, which I was not sure about and did not wish to reveal so he used me for testing out a Romulan disruptor", Saarok said pointing to a wound on his knee

"However he only fired one shot as soon after that one of his guards came by and said they found the landing site, and he said he did not need me anymore and left. Some time later I was freed by my pets", he said pointing to Aerie and her companion

"A bit later I arrived at the place where I encountered you. But a moment before I saw you I saw a group of guards taking someone from the debris and taking him to an unknown location. I do not know where Drew is or what happened to him", Saarok finished

"Now what about you. What happened?", Saarok asked

Tedak shrugged. "Not much since you left, though something interesting did happen. Apparently the version of my wife is a spy in this universe. She claims to be working for Magellan, but also works for Norat, Magellan's brother. She said that Norat believes she works for him, but that she is actually spying on him for Magellan. A complicated story, but it was clearly a lie. Nut got that much from her bronze, even though the creature would not acknowledge him. Her bronze is a fierce creature, very unlike my Sev, but Nut knew that T'Val was lying."

He paused, fiddling with the pipe he used for a cane. "Then Drew, Commander Adren and myself took a shuttle down to this planet, but we got shot down unexpectantly. Adren was killed, Drew taken and apparently I was overseen, otherwise I have no doubt I'd be taken also. I have no idea where to go from here, I have no weapon or tricorder, and I have not the slightest idea where to start searching for Drew. Got any ideas?"

Then Nut came gliding down, chittering softly, his eyes whirling the red of danger. "Shht," Tedak warned, just as Aeris opened her mouth to respond to the little bronze. "We've got company."

When Tedak informed him that someone was coming, Saarok was not happy the two of them were injured and could not accomplish much in a face to face combat. So they had two choices either hide or lure the person that was coming into a trap and with the help of their firelizards capture him and perhaps extract some info on the current situation from them.

"We can either hide or attempt to capture the person or persons that are coming this way or i could surrender and as they do not know about you could go and get help-", Saarok said

During the few seconds while he was waiting for an answer from Tedak he evaluated the surrounding area in an attempt to form a plan should they decide to hide or should they decide to capture the person coming down the path and checked it for an escape route for Tedak should he decide to go and get help and let Saarok to surrender.

Tedak and Saarok cowered below the ridge. They peeped over to get a view.
Below them a line of some 20 people walked, at their head was Magellan, he carried a disruptor rifle. beside him walked the klingon, K'Ehlyer.
"I still think this is a trap"
"In that case you die an honourable death" Magellan grinned grimly
"Bah, that p'tahk wouldnt know honour."
Magellan rounded on the Klingon
"T'Val saved my life. She is everything. If she says shes luring my brother down here, then thats what shes doing. Once I ve killed him, we can either take his ship or find this 'Federation' one."
"Bah"
"Enough" Magellan barked, "It was your guards that allowed the Vulcan to escape."
K'ehlyer looked dissatisfied but said nothing.
"Once we ve sorted Norat I ll let you go find these Federationers, happy? Now lets move we dont want to be late."

T'Val carefully picked her way through the canyon, knowing exactly where she would find Magellan. Soon, Norat would be following her trail leading towards his brother and then she would try to unify them. She knew it would be risky, and that it would also be a long shot but she deemed it worth the risk. She loved both men, though one more than the other...one was her partner, the other was not.

She actually smiled as she saw Magellan approach, but scowled as K'Ehleyr trailed behind him. "Did you have to bring her?" she scowled, ready to reach for her distruptor should the Klingon woman make a move. "Norat is on his way. The human was very reluctant to assist us, but I believe I managed to convince him. Did he arrive in one piece? He had a broken arm, and there was a Romulan male with him."

She paused. "At any rate, Norat believes that I shall be leading you into a trap, so that he can kill you. He shall be here soon."

Drew awoke finding himself in a large comfortable bed, to his side was a beautiful young woman, both of them naked, all around them were thrown away clothes, and broken pots. Quickly and quietly he found his missing uniform, and without further delay left the small house through the front door.

He was surprised to see there were no guards at all nearby, he wasn’t stopped once on his entire track through the forest, he reflected it was a rather good thing both Qualinosts were identical, made it much easier to find ones way around.

Coming out into a clearing, he spotted a large group of men and women, who seemed to be marching somewhere, he noticed with interest that it was his old friend Magellan Lin leading the troops, and that the traitorous T’Val running to greet him.

Hidden away above the troops Drew could make out what appeared to be two Vulcan’s in long colourful robes, keenly watching the movements below.

“Everyone together,” he smiled, then tapped his comm badge.

“Drew to Copenhagen, one to beam up.”

Movements later he found himself back on the Copenhagen, a Medical Officer who was waiting nearby, quickly ran over with a medical tricorder.

“Admiral, what happened out there?” Security Officer Brok asked.

“We ran into difficulties, I got separated from the others in the team, I am a bit hazy on the details, but I somehow ended up in a hut.”

“Why didn’t you beam up from the hut?” Brok asked.

“I wanted to get a feel of the place first,” Drew, answered, “I will be in my quarters if you need me.”

Finally alone in his quarters, Drew quickly accessed the computer systems, with a few quick keystrokes he set his plan into action.

Soon he reflected, all those who had wronged him would pay.

Magellan and his rebels reached the clearing first. Magellan gestured for them to fan out and take up positions. The perfect crossfire. Suddenly K’ehleyer appeared,
“They are coming, 15 armed Imperials, 10 humans two Vulcans, two Bajorans and Norat”
“Excellent” Magellan grinned, he could finally see the future appearing before him, Norat gone and his people on their way to a new home away from everyone. “Take your places everyone”
T’val walked boldly out into the clearing she was trembling. This was it. The apex of everything. Her two loves in one place, pretty soon only one would remain and she prayed it would be Magellan.
Norat and his men approached cautiously,
“T val” Norat greeted, “Is this the place?”
T Val could barely speak.
“Ye..ss” She stammered, “He is close.”
“VERY CLOSE” Magellan roared leaping to his feet. A volley of phaser fire shot from the tree line, several Imperials were felled instantly the others took cover. Norat to his credit was fast, he had dived forward knocking T Val down with him. He rolled sideways and pulled out his pistol. With two well aimed shots he took out two rebels and then dashed for the trees.
T’Val lay stunned second and then crawled for safety.
Phaser and disruptor fire whizzed about. Trees splintered in showers wood. Earth was kicked up in plumes of soil.
Norat could see a lost cause when he saw one and realised he was out gunned, he’d leave his men to hold them up and escape himself.
Magellan noticed his wayward brother disappearing back the way he came and leapt of in pursuit.

Out of the forest Norat relaxed a little, he wove around the boulders and slowed his pace, he could still hear the screams and phasers, until that went quiet he had time, time to reach his shuttle. Suddenly he was knocked to the ground his pistol scattering away. Fighting blindly he twisted and brought his knees up. He kicked out and sent his assailant spinning backwards. Quickly he regained his feet and found himself in front of his brother.
“You” He snarled
“Me. And now its time to end it.”
He lashed out with his right but it was blocked. He slipped his left hand down to grasp Magellan and flung him. Magellan rolled and was quickly back on his feet. They traded blows, one for one. Trained at the same academy at the same time, and having fought many times since childhood, each was the others equal. With in minutes both were bruised and cut.
“Just die” Norat wheezed
“After you” Magellan grinned, “You’ll be six feet under before I m going anywhere.”
“Bah” he swung and connected.
“Lin is mine. The commission chose me” He kicked and connected.
“They were wrong, I m the eldest”
Punch, block, kick
Magellan spat a broken tooth out and through the oozing blood growled,
“They choose the better candidate.”
“The weakest”
Roll, Block flick, retreat.
Locked in a deadly embrace they wrestled a moment before each broke free.
Magellan spotted his lost disruptor and dived.
Norat spotted his lost phaser and dived.
In unison they hit the floor, skidded, grasped, turned and…
Froze.
They faced each other weapons drawn, deadlocked.

T’Val picked herself up, bodies lay everywhere. There was still some fighting but she steered well clear. Frantically she checked around, looking for either Magellan or Norat. Finding neither she was unsure if she was relieved or not. Remembering she had seen Norat heading away she followed.
Leaving the forest she began to pick her way through the boulders that were strewn across the gentle slopes. In the distance she could hear the sounds of a scuffle and headed for it. Drawing her weapon she approached cautiously. She peered over the edge of a rock to see the Norat and Magellan facing off, weapons drawn. Her heart was in her mouth, it thumped louder than she thought possible. One shot now and Norat would be gone. She raised her weapon taking careful aim, she shifted her feet to gain a better… the rocks beneath her feet shifted and then rolled. Before she knew what was happening T Val was tumbling in a cloud of dust and scree, she slid to the floor at the bottom of the slope beside the two Trill.
“T Val” Magellan exclaimed in distress, he raced to her side, fearful she was injured, it was all the break Norat needed, the orange light licked out, a hiss changed to the wet sound phased energy reticulated light made as it burnt through flesh.
The beam on maximum setting struck Magellan in the upper chest, the uniform was seared away, the beam pressed harder, skin just melted away even the ribs were charred as he landed some two feet away. T Val dust covered and bruised staggered to her feet and over to Magellan, tears streamed from her eyes as she looked at the ruined body of her former lover, his lifeless eyes staring back at her accusatively.
“At last” Norat grinned in delight, he had slain his brother, the one man in his way, now nothing could stop him. “Transfer him to me. Transfer him now. Give me Lin, the symbiont I always deserved.”
T Val turned round pure hatred in her eyes.
“Transfer him” Norat replied icily raising the weapon “Or join him. Once Lin is in me, Magellan will not be forgotton. He will never die, and nor will I. Do it now”

Back on the Copenhagen, Paul Drew had been moving fast, it had taken little time to lock out the main controls from everyone but himself, and with a ship full now of junior officers, no one was going to stand in his way. That annoying Abren had come close, but Drew had made sure he didn’t survive that little away mission, it was just a shame he didn’t have time to deal with Tedak in the same manner.

Keying in the final commands, Drew could feel the ecstasy of the moment, after months of hard work, years of torment he would have his revenge, Norat would regret leaving him for dead all those years before, Magellan and his self-righteous would finally be his un-doing, and that fake ghost Drew, who for so long now had been such an important part of his plans, giving him the perfect access to Starfleet’s systems. It had been difficult, Assailants staff had almost captured him before, but he had framed that stupid fool Drolem Simeth, and now finally he had reached this moment, this wonderful glorious moment, soon everyone would be dead, Magellan, Noart, his counterpart, everyone…

T'Val sat frozen beside Magellan's body, knowing there was nothing she could do for him. ~you betrayed him~ part of her mind screamed at her. ~it is for the best~ the other part joined in. Cradling him in her arms, she gave in to her grief, but was distrubed at Norat's approach.

"Transfer him," Norat demanded.

She looked up at him through tear-filled eyes, and fired a look of pure hatred at him. Yet she knew he ought to get transferred soon, or Lin would die. Close by, Magellan's queen sat keening, but she hadn't gone between, to join Magellan in death. ~she's joined to Lin!~ T'Val realised.

At last, she nodded, motioning for Norat's guards to gather up Magellan's body. "Respectfully!" she snapped at them, "I will not have him treated with disrespect, even in death he should be honoured."

When they were back aboard Norat's shuttle, she ushered the guards in and motioned for Norat to place himself on another biobed. Carefully, and with precision, she removed the Lin symbiont from the pouch, and placed it within Norat - who by now was sedated. Guards kept close watch on her all the time, but she was oblivious to them. She worked fast, concentrating on getting the job done on time, as there was little time to lose.

At last, she scanned Norat, and was pleased - but also saddened - to see that the transfer had been completed successfully. When she had assured herself of the symbiont's wellbeing, she turned back to the body that had been her beloved Magellan. "I want him washed and dressed in his best uniform," she ordered, "and then he shall be buried on Qualinost. His name shall be remembered by both Alliance and Empire."

She heard sounds behind her, and turned to find Norat sitting up, a troubled look on his face. "How do you feel," she asked, not even trying to keep the emotion out of her voice. She had loved both men, and she had still one of the brothers left, yet she wondered if he would have her. THere was nowhere else to go for her. The little queen firelizard had stopped keening, and was now sitting beside Norat, chirping questioningly.

Meanwhile, Tedak and Saarok were still hidden in the bushes, trying to remain undiscovered. There were many guards walking about, and even after the little group of people had walked on, they stayed hidden until well after darkness had set in.

"I think it's safe to continue our journey now," Tedak whispered, turning on the flashlight he had managed to find in the wreckage to a low intensity of light. Suddenly, he saw something which looked like bootprints that were deep enough to have been caused by extra pressure on the person wearing the boots. For example, a person carrying another person. But the prints were wearing out, telling both men that it was a very old boot print.

"Old boot prints," Saarok mentioned casually, "could be months old. However, these are not ordinary bootprints, they are deep ones."

"I quite agree," Tedak said, raising his hand to light up the path ahead, "and they go in that direction. I see no harm in following them. It is night, the likelihood that we will be discovered now is very nihil."

The two men carried on, Tedak leaning on his pipe with one arm, and Saarok supporting him on the other side. Suddenly, Tedak had an idea. "Nut knows Drew, so does your Aeris. We could send them ahead to search for the admiral." He whistled softly and his little brown came hovering before him. "Find Drew," Tedak told him, closing his eyes to give the brown a clear picture of the admiral. He then saw Saarok do the same with his blue and gold.

Minutes later, the golden creature returned, but the brown hadn't returned yet. "Must be still searching, or lost his way," Tedak muttered. While the brown was very smart, he was also prone to losing his way when flying straight.

"Aeris has found Drew," Saarok reported, then pointed, "we must follow this trail."

After what seemed like hours of walking, both men finally arrived at a large complex. With ease, The Vulcan diplomat disabled the two guards at the entrance, and they went in, using the golden firelizard as their guide. They found Drew lying on a stretcher in a cell, all on his own. He looked battered and bruised, and by the looks of it he had broken a few bones as well.

"Admiral," Tedak whispered urgently, "admiral wake up, we must go!" He shook the human gently, but persistently, and was relieved to find the man still alive. Drew was groaning softly, trying to bat them away and murmuring incoherently. "We must leave," Tedak urged Saarok, "assist me."

Norat lay prone upon the narrow bench in the shuttlecraft. T Val stood alongside him, tears still rolled down her cheeks. He knew then that he had been played for a fool. He wouldnt not take such betrayl lightly. This universe was hard enough without the woman he loved...loved? betraying him. No matter, once the operation was over he would kill her and return his fight to the Alliance. The humans and allies maybe holding their own against the Cardassians and klingons, but with the knowledge locked within Lin he would have the power to end the war forever.
There was a moment of pain as T Val made the first incision, over time an unjoined trills pouch often healed over, it had long sinced served a purpose and in the unjoined was wholly redundant. Norat had experienced greater agony when incarcerated on Terok Nor, little could be worse. It was an irony that so many of those freedom fighters lacked so little backbone, bashir, O'brien, all of them helped turned the tide, overthow the yoke of oppression but had then cowed away from the power that the Terrans and their allies would have by all rights. Vulcans, Trill, Human and Bajoran were obviously superior to the primitive Klingons and Cardassians. It was their right to rule the universe and with Lin he would.
What had once been a sibling rivalry had become a matter of interstellar politics and peace, the piece of a renewed empire - with him at its head.

The sensation was indescribable as the lin symbiont, an amorphous slug like creature, repulsive as it was elegant, was slid into the pouch. Instinctivly it bound to him. Thin tendrils instantly made a thousand connections, connections that if severed would spell death for the host. The sensation spread as the symbiosis continued.
Slowly like the contentment sleep brings the meld began, two minds becoming one... becoming one.
The horror, the pain the abject, overwhelming pain. The agony ripped though Norats soul. He thought he could handle any pain any loss, any sorrow, but this was unbearable. He lost consciousness.

An hour later Norat recovered enough to leave the deep sleep, bent over him was T'Val.
"The joining was hard on you both" she said softly, her tears had stopped, but theirs tracks still showed like furrows through the dirt on her face. Despite it all it made her look even more beautiful, like fine antique porcelain, delicate and... Norat shook his head before the realisation hit him. He had never found physical attraction for T Val, only the strength in her, the power and his ability or so he had thought to dominate her. This... this new view... it was how Magellan had viewed her.
"How do you feel?"
Norat swung his legs over the side of the bench and sat up.
"Groggy and a little overwhelmed." he replied his voice shaky
"I can imagine it would be, you passed out."
"Yes...It was... a shock. I felt his death. Magellans, all of them. Each of their deaths, it was... no -one no one should ever feel that. It is sacred."
T Val looked at him slightly askew, this was not like the Norat she knew.
"5 Deaths is a heavy burden" Norat continued "And only 2 were natural, Lin is a remarkable creature, it has quite a capacity for survival."
"Well you get what you deserve." T Val said bitterly,
"Yes I did rather didnt I." Norat replied, his remembered then his pledge to kill T val when he was joined, but now the urge was gone. He understood why she did what she did. He understood a whole lot more.
"So get what you wanted" T Val asked,
Of course, Norat realised, how could he forget. The very reason why possessing Lin was so important. Quickly he searched through the memories for Kramin. Very quickly he found the information he wanted, the only record of it left in the universe, this one memory. This one scrap of identity held the key to unquestionable...power? Yes power, that was without question and in that very same moment he reached the same conclusion as Magellan had as Toya had, as every host of lin had, the that power bore the mark of evil, the power to wreak havoc with the universe, with time, with space, with the mechanics of everything, Omega was powerful and far too powerful for anyone person to possess, no one ever must ever know its secrets.
The realisation that he and Magellan were closer than he belived possible nearly brought him to his knees. He had slain his own brother, in envy and jealous, for the knowledge that would now become a burden. He understood the darkness Magellan had carried after the joining. It was the knowledge that he had the potential to ruin lives, it was why Magellan had rebelled, it could never become a tool of the Empire nor the Alliance.
Now too that life was lost to Norat.
He bent to look at his comm badge. Solemnly he tore it from his chest and removed the admirals pips from his collar.
"What are you doing?" T Val asked,
"You may not believe this but I see now. I understand it all. I am still Norat, I am still what I was, but now I am more. I understand more than you could possibly imagine my dear."
"That is good" she answered warily blatantly unsure if this was the case.
"MY life as it was is over, I am reborn, I m no longer Norat , I am Norat Lin."
"A subtle difference I m sure" T Val spat.
Norat stood and ran the back of his hand along her cheek, in the manner that Magellan did.
"Help me. It is not safe for me here, Magellan was right I must leave, we all must leave. Let us return to the colonist and find that way to the Gamma Quadrant"
"Colonists?"
"Ah yes I used to call them the Rebels. But no more, we must become colonists. This quadrant is lost to pain and revenge, there is hope out there, hope that we can build on and nurture. I dont expect you to trust me, I don't think I trust myself"
"We shall see, but perhaps we should first commandeer your ship."
"No. My first officer will never accept me now. He has probably already taken over presuming me dead. No we need to find these Federationers they maybe the key. What Magellan didnt know is what I knew of them. They helped liberate Terok Nor, they helped begin this struggle for 'freedom'. I ve in fact met the Captain of that other ship before, I knew him as he was in this universe, I well like all good Imperial officers betrayed him, as did my brother a long time ago. As I understand it often the people of the Alternative universe are the diametric opposite of this, which means, well I hope it means that their Drew is a man of compassion and wisdom. We must seek him and get his help."
"Perhaps" T Val replied, "I still dont trust you, but its a start."

OOC: Got a bit carried away here lol. Anywho lets have a start at rounding up.

After Tedak asked him to help, Saarok dropped a pad he was reading and helped Tedak raise Drew to his feet. And then the group very slowly, as all three of them were injured in someway, made way first out of the room where they found Drew, then out of the building complex in which the room was located in.

As they were moving towards the Woods Saarok was thinking, who exactly captured Drew, it couldn't have been the people who got him since they asked him about the location of the Copenhagen and then again it would be logical to conclude that if they already had Drew it would be much easier to get out of Drew what they wanted to know then out of him. Something just did not add up.

-- Somewhere over the rainbow - woods --

When they arrived at a place that appeared shielded from prying eyes they lowered Drew on the ground and attempted to wake him.

"He does not look good", Saarok noted

"Indeed he needs a doctor", Tedak added

Just as that was said Drew slowly began returning to the real world. Drew slowly moved his head from left to right and blinked his eyes attempting to realize where he was.

<Drew>

"Admiral", Saarok said

"Admiral, how are you feeling?"

<Drew>

"Do you remember who it was that captured you?", Saarok asked

<Drew>

After hearing out everything that Drew was able to remember and tell them. Saarok turned to Tedak and said:

"We need to get to the Copenhagen."

Drew had the strangest sensation that he was moving, but that wasn’t possible, he hadn’t moved for months, fear filled him, he couldn’t bare another “session” with his counterpart.

Something bright was starting to shine into his eyes, he could hear distant voices, calling out to him, he had the oddest feeling that if he just listened to those voices everything would be ok, his suffering would finally end. Is this death? He thought to himself.

“Must…warn…need to… get back.”

Suddenly his eyes shot open, he was in a forest of some kind, one that looked familiar to him, he saw now that the bright light was a golden sun.

“Where?” he crocked.

“Admiral,” a voice Drew recognised as Ambassador Saarok said, coming closer, “Admiral, how are you feeling?”

“I have felt better Ambassador,” Drew said slowly, “Anna would love to get me to sickbay.”

“Anna?” Tedak, said clearly confused, “Who is Anna?”

“I believe Anna was the name of the Admiral’s former First Officer,” Saarok answered, “clearly he is very confused.”

“Do you remember who it was that captured you?”

“It was him,” Drew answered, his voice shaking slightly, “he made me tell him things, made me give him my codes.”

“Who did?” Tedak asked, stepping forward.

“My counterpart,” Drew said slowly, “I thought he was dead, but he wasn’t he came for, took his revenge…”

There was an eerie silence as Tedak and Saarok wondered what horrors the man before them had faced.

“It is ok Admiral, we shall return to the Copenhagen, we can find a way to return to Assailant.”

“Copenhagen?” Drew asked confused, “Assailant?”

“Yes Admiral,” Tedak answered, “The Copenhagen is your ship, and you are also assigned to Starbase Assailant as Chief of Base Operations.”

“My current posting is at Starfleet Academy,” Drew answered, “or at least it was, until he found me.”
Saarok and Tedak both raised an eyebrow in alarm.

“Admiral, do you know who we are?” Saarok finally asked.

“You I know as Ambassador Saarok,” Drew answered, “but I am afraid I don’t know your friend here,” he pointed to Tedak as he spoke.

Saarok turned very slowly to Tedak, and said in a quiet voice, “logic would seem to detect that the Admiral was captured long before reaching Assailant, it is possible the man we have known as been his counterpart all along.”

“I have to agree with you,” Drew said, surprising both Tedak and Saarok, who clearly didn’t think Drew could hear them, “and if my counterpart is indeed in command of a Starfleet ship, we need to stop him, before he does something dreadful.”

Saarok nodded his head in agreement, “We need to get to the Copenhagen.”

But no one answered Saarok as at that moment, a transporter beam claimed them all.

With shock they found themselves in the Copenhagen’s transporter room, next to them stood Norat, and T’Val both clearly as confused, led on the floor was the body of Magellan.

And at the transporter pad, with a mad grin on his face stood Paul Drew.

“Welcome my friends,” Drew’s counterpart said, stepping down from the console, he had a phaser in his hand, clearly set on kill, “before I took my revenge on you all, I wanted you to know who it was, who beat you.”

“Paul!” Norat exclaimed, “Your alive?”

“Disappointed?” Drew asked, walking right up to face Norat, “I survived your betrayal Norat my old friend, and now you will suffer.”

Slowly, Drew circled his captives, reaching Tedak and Saarok he smiled an evil grin.

“I see you have discovered my secret Ambassadors.”

“I suggest you stand down Mr. Drew,” Saarok said calmly, “This ship is full of loyal Starfleet Officers.”

“Officers loyal to me,” Drew told him with an chuckle, “I ordered all crew confined to quarters, don’t want them getting in the way do we?”

“Once they know who you are, they wont be so loyal,” Tedak told him bitterly, “They will stop you.”

“And tell me my dear Ambassador Tedak, how will they know if you and they are all dead?”

There was silence in the transporter room, as everyone took in Drew’s statement he was clearly mad, and mad man were certainly capable of mass murder.

“As we speak,” Drew continued, “the auto-destruct sequence is running, in ten minutes this ship, and this entire planet will be destroyed, and you along with it.”

“You wont kill yourself,” T’Val said, speaking for the first time.

“T’Val, you know me better than that,” Drew answered, walking up and stroking her face, “You know I always get my way.”

T’Val pulled herself back from Drew’s grip, and tried to spit in his face, but before she could, Drew slapped her hard across the face, causing her to fall to the deck.

“I wont miss you T’Val,” he said coldly, walking back towards the transporter controls, “my dear friends, I so wish I could stay and die with you, but alas, I have a shuttle waiting for me in orbit.”

And then he was gone, leaving the entire crew of the Copenhagen, and the planet she rested on to die.

“Admiral,” Tedak said urgently, addressing the real Drew, who was led on the floor next to Magellan’s cold body, “Admiral, you must enter your codes and stop the destruct sequence, or we will all die.”

Drew looked up at her confused, tried to pull himself up but failed, urgently, Tedak and Saarok helped him to his feet.

“Admiral, the codes,” Saarok prompted, “Address the computer.”

Drew, the 'real' drew lay prone upon the floor. He still seemed too sensless to be of any help.
"If that is the Drew I knew even with the command codes I doubt we could disarm the warp core with them."
"And who are you" Tedak spat, eying T Val warily,
"I am someone in the same boat as you" Norat replied "We re all stuck on this mudball and some of us have more at stake"
"Well we just cant stand here and do nothing" T Val stated,
"Indeed, there maybe a way out... Either of you two know anything about Warp Cores?"
Saarok looked up,
"I know a little"
"Good. Go to the Engine room, erect a dampening field around it, and then arange three pattern enhancers around it. You" he pointed at Tedak "can come with me."
"Me? and where would that be?"
"Back to my ship"
"No you said yourself you cant go back" T Val replied,
"That was just a guess, my FO may not have taken over."
"And then what?" Tedak asked,
"Then we use our transporters to beam the core in to space. See simple"
"We'll see" T val rumbled,
"Are you armed" Norat asked Tedak
"Errr No"
T Val pulled a disruptor from apocket and handed it to him,
Tedak took it cautiously.
"Right lets go. Admiral Norat to ______ ( cant remember ships name lol) Three to beam up."
In a haze of light Norat, T Val and Tedak disappeared to reappear in teh cramped transporter room on the ship in orbit.
They were faced by two security guards, weapons drawn.
"Admiral Norat..." One of them Stammered, "We were told you were dead."
"Well I m not"
"Err I see but... well, Commander..."
"Let me guess my dear FO, Commander Keztrek has taken command"
"Err yes sir, she has control of your agoniser and has ordered any boarders to be repelled"
Norat looked at T Val who had already sidled round slightly,
"Then you better repel us" Norat shouted leveling his weapon and firing.

--Somewhere over the rainbow - USS Copenhagen -> Transporter room--

After Tedak, T'Val and Norat transported of the Copenhagen, Saarok was left in the transporter room with Drew half aware lying on the floor. Saarok did not know how much time was left before the explosion, but he could not simply leave Drew lying there on the floor. He picked him up and placed him on the transporter pad. Then he walked over to the transporter room console and activated a site to site transport, transporting Drew to sickbay.

=/\=Saarok to sickbay=/\=

=/\=Computer activate the EMH=/\=

=/\=Please state the nature of the medical emergency=/\=, came over the comm. line

=/\=Doctor I have just transported a patient to sickbay, take care of him, Saarok out=/\=

=/\=I will do what I can, doctor out=/\=

After that was dealt with. Saarok went out of the transport room and went towards engineering.

--Somewhere over the rainbow - USS Copenhagen -> Main Engineering--

When he reached the engineering door they did not open. He pressed a few keys on the door panel but nothing happened.

=/\=Computer open main engineering door=/\=

=/\=Doors locked, please specify access code=/\=

=/\=Authorization Saarok alpha 1-1-9 omega=/\=

=/\=Voice authorization not accepted, doors sealed by Rear Admiral Paul Drew=/\=

The doors wouldn't open so easily. Saarok looked around and remembered seeing some tools somewhere along the corridor he used to get here. He went back to the place where he saw the tools. When he found them he grabbed a few items and went back to the door.

He removed a panel next to the door and changed the place of a few isolinear chips. And entered his access code.

=/\=Manual override engaged=/\=

Came the answer from the computer. Then he took the handle which is used for manual opening of the doors and opened them. When he entered engineering he saw that it was deserted. It would appear that "Drew" was telling the truth when he said that he locked everyone in their quarters. Saarok went over to the main engineering console and began to type a series of commands; it would appear that there was no way to stop the self destruct sequence. So Norat's plan was the only way.

=/\=Computer raise level 10 forcefield around the warp core, authorization Saarok alpha 1-1-9 omega=/\=

=/\=Forcefield activated=/\=

Came the response. As Saarok moved away to go and find some pattern enhancers. There was not much time left. He hoped, there was that hope again, but he had to live with it for now, that Norat would succeed with his part of the plan.

T'Val silently walked around the security guard, while Norat distracted him. Tedak eyed her warily, not trusting her for one moment even though she had handed him her disruptor. T'Val was quite aware of the Romulan's distrust, and she didn't trust him either. However, her firelizard obeyed his, which told her something. Also, the man behaved rather oddly about her, despite his apparent distrust. Could it be that this man was involved with her counterpart from his universe? She should ask him later, when this was over.

She waited patiently and silently, until Norat's barely detectable nod. Only then did she reach out and clamp her left hand on the guard's shoulder, squeezing in the proper place and the guard sank to the deck. "He'll be out for several hours, but I suggest we tie him up and gag him," she suggested, and went about looking for a rope. She deftly tied him up, securely knotting the rope so that he could not wiggle himself free, then ripped a large piece off his uniform and gagged him.

"Now he will not betray our presence," she said smugly, giving Norat a radiant smile.

"Excellent" Norat replied with a wolfish grin, "You" he pointed a finger at Tedak. "Help T Val guard this room. I need time to reconfigure the transporter I also have a little plan up my sleeve."
Tedak scowled but followed T Val to teh doorway.
"It wont take long for Keztrek to wonder whats happening, when she does she ll send everyone down here to get us"
"I see. Is life in the Empire always so cut throat"
T Val looked at him cock eyed,
"Of course, how else would you run an empire"
"Oh I dont know, perhaps by Compassion, unity, democracy"
T Val laughed,
"Oh your funny. Especially for a romulan."

Norat busied himself with the transporter it was amazing how much the other lives contributed to him, gave him new insight, new strength.
"I hope that Vulcan of yours has done what I asked" Norat commented to Tedak,
"Saarok is unique and capable character I have complete faith in him"

True to his words Saarok aboard the Copenhagen had just put the last enhancer in place and switched it on All three throbbed in unision.

"Okay here we go" Norat said, "Computer, bring offline the warp containment field."
"Authorisation is required"
"Norat Alpha-beta 2 niner"
"Command Codes accepted"
"Excellent" Norat grinned "I knew Kez wouldnt have thought to change them yet. Computer confirm field termination."
"Confirmed"
"Very well, Computer lock on to these co-ordinates. Beam it to these, simultaneuously beam this to there... and execute."
with a typical whine the warp core vanished from the Copenhagen as did the one from the_____. They both rematerialised in opposite places.
"There hows that for a trick. We have about 30 seconds so I suggest you get over here"
"I agree" T Val noted firing down the corridor, "Kez's people are here."
"Move" Tedak grunted also taking a shot and pushing T Val toward s the transporter. He felled one attacker and then sure there was time joined the other two on teh pad.
"Computer Transport us to these co-ordinates and initate full lockdown on my mark. Mark"
In a haze they vanished reapperaing on the Copenhagen.
"Did it work?" Tedak asked
"I think so" Norat grinned "Right about now that warp core will put an end to any probs up in orbit. Now lets see about how we can perhaps use this vessel to get our people out of here"

Okay this is starting the wrap up, all we need now is a way for Andy, Tedak and Saarok to negotiate with Norat not to take the Copenhagen to take his people to the Gamma Qaudrant. then get yourselve home

-- Somewhere over the rainbow - USS Copenhagen --

After Saarok arranged the pattern enhancers around the warp core of the USS Copenhagen, he stepped away from the warp core and a few moments later he could see the blue-ish light of the transporter beam encompassing the warp core and then disappearing again leaving the appearance that nothing changed behind it. He went to the warp core control panel and saw that in fact it was a different warp core, most likely the one of the 'USS _______' which was the ship of Norat.

After that was done he went out from the transporter room in order to meet up with Norat, Tedak and T'Val when they beam back to the Copenhagen. After a few minutes he arrived to the transporter room he saw that Norat and the team were already there.

"I presume you were successful in your mission", Saarok asked him

"If i wasn't we'd already be dead"; Norat responded

"Perhaps you would like to join me in sickbay where, hopefully admiral Drew, from our space, might be able to tell us something about the other Drew that has just escaped."; Saarok said

"I would have nothing against finding out what exactly it is that Drew is planning"; Norat responded as the group went towards sickbay

“Please sit down,” the EMH demanded angrily, pushing Drew back down on the bio bed for the seventh time since his arrival, “how you expect to recover if you do not rest I don’t know,” the hologram continued, “going months without proper food or water, a man of your years should know better, wh…” the EMH never finished his sentence, as he dissolved into nothingness.

“That’s better,” Drew muttered to himself, when he had first come to sickbay, the EMH had been a great help, and had quickly treated his physical injuries, now Drew just felt very tired, and very confused, not a good combination for dealing with any Doctor, let alone a computer one.

Pushing himself back up, Drew did a quick look around the now deserted sickbay, he couldn’t really remember much from when he was brought here, but he could see clearly now that it was indeed a state of the art Starfleet faculty. One of the new designs that the Engineering and Medical Corps had been working on.

Catching his reflection in a nearby holo mirror, Drew was shocked at his own appearance. His face was thin, and withdrawn, and he looked like he had lost at least three stone, his hair was now almost completely grey. His uniform was covered in dirt, ripped in several places, and his rank and Starfleet insignia were missing.

Suddenly the sickbay doors whisked opened, and several people quickly filled in, all of them had a look of urgency on their faces.

“Admiral, how are you feeling?” asked Saarok, the only person Drew actually knew, although he got the impression that everyone else in the room knew him.

“Better than I was,” Drew said in a husky voice, his throat was still very dry, “Ambassador what’s going on?”

“We were rather hoping you could tell us that,” Saarok said calmly, “Logic, states that you yourself were abducted by your own counterpart from this universe.”

“For once, logic states it right,” Drew, said slowly, now standing up, “I have been in that cell you find me in for months.”

“Indeed, we concluded as much,” Tedak said, stepping forward, “It would appear that the Drew Saarok, myself and all of Starbase Assailant have known was your counterpart.”

Drew nodded his head in agreement, which didn’t hurt as much as he thought it was.

“The question we have for you,” the Trill Drew didn’t know said, stepping forward also “is do you know what your counter plans to do?”

“You mean besides kill us all?” Drew answered, “He never really gave me much detail about what he was planning, just that we would all pay dearly.”

There was a silence in the room, as everyone tried to think desperately what course of action would be needed next, finally it was Drew who broke the silence.
“You say my counterpart escaped on a shuttle?” he prompted Saarok.

“That is what he told us,” Saarok replied, “We saw him transport out.”

“Then, lets get this ship back up where she belongs, and track him down,” Drew said, walking towards the doors, but he had to stop in the corridor, to his embarrassment he didn’t know the way to the bridge.

“To your right Admiral,” Tedak said helpfully, “We do have one other problem however.”

“Indeed,” Saarok agreed, “your counterpart as locked out the main computer.”

“What do you think the chances are he hasn’t changed my personal codes?” Drew asked the two Ambassadors.

“There is only one way to find out,” Tedak said.

“Computer, restore all command functions, authorisation Drew Alpha Alpha Two.”

“Authorisation denied, command codes invalid.”

“Computer, this is Rear Admiral Paul Drew, emergency fleet situation, request command be transferred to myself.”

“Admiral?” Saarok asked confused.

“Starfleet has a backup system in case the senior crew of a ship die in battle,” Drew explained, “senior officers from other ships can come aboard and assume temporary command until the ship reaches Starbase, the computer will grant us limited controls so that we can reach Starfleet.”

“Will that include tactical controls?” Norat asked.

“Phasers only,” Drew told him, as the entire group walked out onto the Copenhagen’s bridge, “but it should be enough to take on a shuttle.”

Minutes later, the Copenhagen was again in space, Saarok and Tedak were back at their usual stations, and Drew was in the centre seat, Norat and T’Val were deep in conversation at the rear of the bridge.

“We allow them to capture Drew,” Norat was saying in a whisper, “and then we take this ship for ourselves, we can deposit this crew on the planet below.”

“An excellent plan,” T’Val said with a dark smile, looking over at Tedak, “More than some of them deserve.”

Drew quickly familiarised himself with the bridge and was helped even more when the rest of the crew were let out of confinement. Saarok explained to them the situation and they eyed Drew warily as if in disbelief.
It was odd they all seemed to know him but not him them.
"Okay lets get a system check." Drew noted once they were in orbit.
Together the surviving senior staff examined the state of the Copenhagen, it wasnt in too bad shape but wasnt exactly battle ready.
"We need to find Drew.. the other Me that is" Paul noted "Begin long range scans"
An officer at teh science console looked up,
" I m picking up an ion trail from a shuttlecraft, it left the planet 15 minutes ago."
"That ll be him." Norat noted,
"Undoubtedly, Im surprised he made it this easy"
"Yes not his style at all" Norat agreed suddenly aware of the common ground between the two of them.
"Plot an intercept course"
"Aye sir"

The Copenhagen swung in low and fast upon the shuttlecraft, quickly a flash of light ran out catching the craft in a powerful tractor beam.
"Okay then beam him aboard"
"Why not just destroy it" T Val commented coldly to Tedaks disgust and dismay,
"He should be brought to Justice" he replied,
"Pah" T Val grunted.
"Hang on sir" The science officer called, "Theres no one aboard. It looks like it was all just a trick. An autopilot and faked lifesigns."
"Thats him alright sneaky as hell" Norat growled.
"Then I guess we'll have to do this now" T Val grinned pulling out her disruptor "We ll take this ship"
Everyone froze, T Val had positioned herself to cover the whole room.
"Take this ship? I ve only just got it" Drew replied dryly
"T Val" Norat stated simply, "Lower your weapon. This isnt the right way."
T Val looked at him cautiously.
"Its what I as Norat would have done yes. But I m Norat Lin now. And his weaknesses are mine now. He may have said he d take the ship by force but he wouldnt."
Saarok rubbed his leg where Magellan had shot him skeptically.
"But we need it. How else can we get to the Gamma Quadrant, to the promised land. A place to be free of the Empire and the Alliance."
Norat shook his head.
"Thats the wrong way. Magellans way was wrong. We cant keep running, look what it did to him, to all of them, they are nothing. If we want to achieve peace then we need to fight for it. Show them that its worth it. What do you say? Let us return to Qualinost and from there really undermine them. Show them the Empire can never beat the Alliance in the way its trying now."
He walked round to stand squarely in front of T Val
"Put down the disruptor, if not for me then for Magellan"
Re: MISSION 2.1 REFLECTIONS - Mission Thread
Post by Healer T'Val on Apr 12th, 2005, 6:40pm

T'Val hesitated and stood motionless, pointing the disruptor directly at Norat's heart, after passing her aim over the other people present. Her bronze firelizard chirped in alarm and came swooping down to grab the disruptor from her hands, but four other firelizards barred his way. She peered over the barrel of the weapon, but her hands were trembling; would she kill the person she loved, the only person she had left to live for?

At last she let the weapon slide from her hands, and it clattered to the deck loudly. "I cannot shoot you," she said flatly, letting her gaze wander over Drew, Saarok and Tedak, "you do not belong in this universe." Almost ashamed, she looked up at Norat Lin. "Would you allow me to go with you?" she asked, "we will fight as Magellan had fought, we will do it for your brother, and for a better universe."

She turned to Drew. "We shall be beaming down to Qualinost, and leave you to be on your way to your own universe," she added, though hatred filled her eyes as she gazed upon them, "do not come back here. Next time I will kill you all."

“Well, I am glad that’s over,” Drew said dryly as Norat and T’Val were escorted to the transporter room, “not one of the most enjoyable missions I have taken part in.” He slumped back into his command chair, briefly closed his eyes, now all the excitement was over, he was starting to the feel effects of his long imprisonment.

“Admiral,” Saarok said cautiously, “how are we to proceed?”

“We find a way home,” Drew said simply.

“And how do we do that?” Tedak asked, “We do not fully understand how we arrived here.”

“My guess would be the nebula would be a good place to start,” Drew answered, “you could have been brought here by a subspace anomaly.”

“Sir?” a young science officer, whose name Drew didn’t know spoke up nervously.

“Yes Ensign?” Drew asked, turning to face the young man.

“I have been reviewing the sensor logs Sir, and I think I might have a way to get us back home.”

A smile spread across Drew’s face, “Well, Ensign don’t keep us in suspense.”

A few minutes later, the Copenhagen was heading back for the nebula where it had all started, expect this time there was no hostile ship patrolling the area.

There was a buzz of excitement amongst the bridge crew, as at long last they were faced with the possibility of getting home, what had only meant to be a one week mission, and turned into one that seemed to last a life time.

“So, you believe we got pulled into because of something Norat’s ship did,” Drew said, running through the Science Officer’s plan one last time, “and that if we repeat the process, we should be able to re-open the rift?”

“Yes Admiral,” the officer answered, “it is my belief that there is an wormhole in the area, connecting our two universes.”

“And we never detected this before because?”

“I believe the exit point on our end isn’t pertinent, I believe it either changes location regularly, or only opens at certain times.”

“Right, but if we go through it now, we will come back out near Assailant?” Drew asked, for the time being trying to forget about all the science involved.

“Yes sir.”

“Well in that case, take us in,” Drew said, resting back in his chair, “full impulse power.”
The Copenhagen shook violently as it re-entered the nebula, and as a blue beam shot out from its deflector dish, a massive wormhole opened before it, pulling the small ship close.

“Report!” Drew yelled, as the lights on the bridge went on and off, and the deck felt as it was trying to knock each crewmember to the floor.

“We are entering the wormhole,” Lt. Smith at the helm reported, “Estimating three minutes until we exit.”

There was one last almighty shake of the deck plates, that this time did knock everyone to the floor, and then all was quiet.

“Did we make it?” Drew asked, climbing back up to his seat.

“Affirmative,” Smith replied, “Sensors, indicate we are back in our universe.”

“In that case, open a channel to Assailant, put us through to whoever is in command over there.”

As the ship finally made way back into normal space Saarok was glad, glad? There was an emotion again, he had to remain focused till he can do something to settle his emotions and put them under control. He returned back to reality right after he focused on something other then emotions.

"Ay sir"; he heard

It took him a moment to remember than Drew ordered the lt. to call SB Assailant.

"This is cmdr. Zoillip(I think that’s the name lol?), welcome back admiral Drew", the man said

Drew looked at the man who obviously knew him and then he remembered he had seen him once before, before he was captured.

"It is good to be back."; Drew responded

"When you are near enough to the Starbase Assailant control will take over the navi-computer and initiate docking procedures.", the man added

"Understood, Copenhagen out"; came the answer

Then Drew looked at the lt. at the helm,

"Well what are you waiting for let's go", he said

"Yes sir"; the man said and continued towards Assailant in a few minutes they were going to be close enough to dock.

Saarok was looking at the scans, and the wormhole, something needed to be done about it to prevent other ships to accidentally end up in the mirror universe, he thought. As the ship initiated docking procedures and shook a little.
