| Hello Rhino fans & thanks for checking out my web page. Once upon a time (no really) it all started back in the 5th grade where the elementary school I was attending started a school band. My drum teacher was Mr. Smith. It was kind of boring at first, playing on that little drum pad, but I can still remember the first time I played on a real snare drum. You never forget your first snare (you know what Im talkin bout). After awhile, I wanted a whole trap set. But Id have to wait a few years for that. The first time I got behind a set (now that sounds funny doesnt it :) was at my cousins house. He had a band and they let me jam with them. From then on all I wanted to do was play in a rock n roll band thats when I decided playing in a high school band wasnt enough for me. I had a monkey on my backor was it a donkey? Bitten by the music bug. I needed a fix man! There were a few bands around school that I would hang out with, but I was never actually a member. They all already had drummers. Once in a while I would sit in, but not nearly enough for me. The biggest problem I had was not having my own set of drums. They were pretty expensive even back then. At times I would sing with the bands. I wasnt all that good at singing back then, but it was a lot of fun. I did this kind of thing off and on for 15 years or soliving on the streets of Masonpenniless & broke. I cleaned myself up, got a job with a colleague of mine. You may have heard of himJuan Valdez? Finally, one day at work one of the guys (Juans cousin Paco) said that he had an old set of drums and would I want themFOR FREE!!! They didnt look like much, smelled of coffee grounds, but sounded pretty good. Needless to say, I was in percussion heaven. I played on these drums until I bought the set I now have which are the Pearl Export Series. Its a pretty basic 5 piece set, nothing too fancy. I also play Sabian Pro Sonix cymbals, a hat trick on the hi hat, and what drum kit would be complete without a big ol cowbell. MORE COWBELL DAMNIT! MORE COWBELL! (SNL referencethat funny Blue Oyster Cult skit w/Christopher Walkinha ha.) Ive had quite a few musical influences. A lot of them being family members. Mom and Dad always had the country music and bluegrass going on the radio. My Uncle Lawrence was very involved in bluegrass music. (I always wanted to be a bluegrass drummer but for some reasonit never panned out.) Some of todays top bluegrass artists played with him at one time or another. My cousin Lewell has had success in country music. Some of my other cousins, Bobby, Darell, Terry, Robbie, and Larry have all been in bands and I love it when we all get together for a jam session. I like all kinds of music, but I would have to say that my favorites are classic rock and blues. Some of the drummers that I like the most are John Bonham, Kenny Aronoff, and Zoro. Three different styles of playing, but all are awesome drummers. One last thingI love playing in this band with Mark, Jerry and Steve. I hope to do so for a long time to come. Theyre the best! (ersorda) Thanks for your interestDoug. |
