Buying Checklist
Before buying a budgie be sure you are prepared. Have the cage setup prior to your friends arrival.
-Cage- The cage should be at least 18"x18"x20", the bigger the better. Make sure bar spacing is less that 1/2 an inch. Horizontal bars are better, making it easier for your budgie to climb around.

Perches- At least two perches of varying sizes, and placed at different hights.

Food Dishes- One dish for food, another for water.

Toys- These are important for keeping your bird amused and mentally stimulated.

Cuttlebone- This is a great source of calcium and other minerals.
What to look for when purchasing your bird.
Be knowledgable, read about budgies. Information can be found in your local library, the internet, or another budgie owner.

?Look at the feathers, they should be clean and shiny, toes should be smooth and not scaly. The beak should be smooth and not over-grown. Nostrils should be clean and clear. The vent should also be clean. Watch how the bird interacts, it should be active and playful.
