The year - 1998 was the diamond jubilee year for the Old Michaelians' Association. The first meeting of the OMA took place 68 years ago on  8 Sept 1933 with Mr. P. J. Morsingh, who had been SMI's first headmaster, as chairman. Brother Dositheus was then Bro. Director of SMI.

The OMA continues still to maintain a high profile under the leadership of THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS for OMA, namely Mr. Adrian Tsen Keng Yam, following the footsteps of his predecessors, Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng, Datuk K. K. Lim & Mr. Lim Keng Hoo.

Regular meetings had been held over the past year, & relations with the school have remained close & supportive. The SMI building continues to look truly splendid, the grass in the field has rarely looked so fress & green, & on festive occasions, the building is beautifully floodlit. The entrance to the school was upgraded and given a new millenium look in keeping with advance times. The design was the work of Brother Matthew Bay and the expenses were shared, with the OMA, making its usual significant contribution .Among other contributors were Michaelians Dillon Goh, Fadhli Omar, Samuel Chua, Colin Choong and Anildev Singh, who won the Datuk Wira Cup and donated their RM100 prize money to the PTA fund for the new entrance. OMA began a project in 1999 to upgrade the roads within the compound and cover them with modern interlocking bricks. This project was done in stages as funds became available and was completed by early 2000.

All these, together with several sets of classroom furniture, testify the commitment & timely action of the OMA. More recently, the OMA president, Mr. Adrian Tsen Keng Yam has spearheaded the drive to get sponsors for the annual drama and he has persuaded Timothy Chee to return from retirement & assume the role of director. The OMA has also continued its support for the Asrama Bintang in the Main Convent, & gives a monthly subsidy for an Orang Asli Literacy project in Bidor.

The Annual OMA banquet is held in Ipoh every year on the last Saturday of September. This is the high point of the year for all old Michaelians who gathers in numbers from far & near to renew acquintance, share memories and make new friends. The OMA's message to school leavers is to keep in touch, keep the SMI flag flying high & send news items to our quarterly newsletter The Michaelian Spirit.

Above all we cordially invite you to join OMA & to let us have the benefit of younger ideas and dreams.
