Leadership Team Minutes 9-12-05

In attendance

Rich Mozzini, Til Tribuzi, Cynthia Rapaido, Sally Seebode, Ron Beall, Cece Cronin, Michelle Casale, Martin Ortega, Catherine Bunch, Jacquie McEvoy, Sarah Catalli, Nate Johnson (recorder)

Summary of Actions:

w         We discussed new school concerns

w         We determined that we need to have an institutional method of communicating between teachers, staff, admin, and parents. Several people suggested and promoted the ideas of a suggestion box or system of request forms similar to the maintenance-request form that work so well with Stan.

Next Meetings: Developing an oversight committee to review school-level concerns

More Detailed Minutes:

The chairs and administration discussed the needs and developments that have arisen in the first month of school. Jacquie responded to many of the points raised. Concerns and responses are described below. Items that might require follow-through are emboldened.

Department Offices- Computers are being bought. PTO and other fund-raising will be for furniture.

Computers—Carlo has 10 to shift into the new teachers. Depts will be getting computers. We’ll have more task chairs.

We’ve asked for donations for couches and furniture. There are three staff lounges right now, but Jacquie encourages more use of all three.

What are the floors going to look like at the end of the year? The lino. still presents issues; the contractor still has some work to do. The architect didn’t understand that we drag desks 3 or 4 times a day. The noise is loud.

Can we establish patterns that will be part of the institutional memory? Let’s articulate it more clearly.

The key issue is a security issue for the district especially. Doors remain open until 6:00 now. We are unique in the district for wanting to have access during non-school hours. Adult school is not scheduled, so the building won’t be open.

Supervision during the day (PAC, gym, etc.) Security of the gym remains an issue (doors can be pulled open or won’t shut totally). Unless teachers supervise…Could teachers earn co-curricular points for supervising lunch?  Could teachers monitor their end of the hallway at lunch?

What happens when it rains?

We may open the Flex with supervision.

Spirit Lawn

We have initially restricted access, but we are open to opening the lawn. Could be a bargaining tool for cleanliness, etc.

Library

Students may use the library when it opens. We’ve got one more test before the lib. can be open.  If we raise the money for the comp. lab, we may put the comps. in the library. We’ll have books and stuff too.

Follow-through

Could there be a consistent body for discussion of facilities, plant, and school-wide process. Could we have a suggestion box, request form, etc. that a body such as the appeals board could deal with. PTO could use the suggestions to facilitate donations, etc. It would be helpful to have an oversight committee of chairs/ teachers/Stan/Cynthia.  Admin. could tri-age the requests to take care of immediately or disperse.

Parent donations could really work better if we give them the requests and details.

We can have the T.V.s mounted. Put in a request.

Also, remember what a great place we’ve got. Just look at the picture above!
