2008 Salvation Army Angel Tree

Penn State Hershey Medical Center & College of Medicine

As most of you are aware by now, each year the Salvation Army serves children and families of our communities through the Angel Tree Program.  In 2007, PSHMC/PSCOM helped to provide over 400 children with much needed winter clothing, coats, toys and general holiday cheer.

Here's a refresher to remind you how the program works:

The Salvation Army identifies families, qualified by economic and social need, which may benefit from the program.  The Salvation Army provides a list of children identified by a code number/name, age, gender, clothing sizes and some possible gift suggestions.  Through employee involvement, PSHMC/PSCOM provides gifts for the children.  Warm clothes are always needed, however, toys, games and non-perishable foods are welcome.

Here's how you can participate:

1.   To request an Angel Tree tag (or tags), send me an e-mail ([email protected]) with “ANGEL TREE” as the subject line and let me know how many tags you'd like.  In your e-mail, include your name, phone number and mail code.  I will send the tags to you via interoffice mail.  If you have any preferences (ages, boy or girl, siblings), please include these and I'll do my best to accommodate your request (no guarantees!)

2.   Shop or have someone shop for the child for you.  (Selected gift ideas and clothing sizes are on the tag).

3.   Deliver the gifts unwrapped and identified with the Angel Tree tag in early December (dates & locations to be announced later).

Note: Although it is requested that the gifts NOT be wrapped, feel free to include wrapping paper with your gift.  It will enable the parents of the children to help wrap the gifts and to be part of the holiday celebration.

Please feel free to pass this message along to anyone else that may wish to participate.  If you would like more information or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via e-mail or at phone extension 4754.  Thank you for making this program a success!
