All the people who exist in this world should have a grandfather or should have had a grandfather. We are living on this land because grandfather was born, which meaning grandfather is an important person. However, in this semester we read a story about a grandfather, which is called ��Celebration of Grandfather��. Through reading this story, I thought more about the importance of my grandparents.
In this literature selection, there are three pivotal sentences that are relevance to the situation in this society today and to me personally. Those 3 sentences are, ��They don��t make men like that any more.��, ��Simple lessons from a simple man,�� and the last one ��God give you a good day, grandfather.�� In my opinion, the first sentence means that there could be no one better than grandfather, meaning being an eminent person is not an easy thing to do. America could be great example for it. Being a country like America is not an easy thing to do. The second important sentence ��Simple lessons from a simple man�� means that even a small existence can give other a lesson, which connotes a deep meaning inside it. In my life for example, the small existence could be my brother. The words and sentences that my brother spits out make me think about how I lived my life. In last, the last sentence that I stated above as an important sentence, kind of represents the main idea of this story. It implies how we should greet our grandfather.
Through out the story, the author talks about his grandfather a lot. The readers could realize various authors�� perspective toward his grandfather and elderly people. For example, in the last part of this story, the author says that ��They don��t make men like that anymore��, and implies that he is glad to know his grandfather. By understanding the statement I stated ahead, we could know that the author wanted to be like his grandfather, and knowing his grandfather was a great gain to his life. Also in the middle part of this story, there is a part that talks about ��Simple lessons from a simple man.�� From this part we could notice that the author got to learn new useful lessons from his grandfather. In this paragraph, I talked about the author��s perspective toward grandfather and to summarize, the author respect his grandfather a lot and is glad to know his grandfather.
When writing a short story or a long story there is a purpose of writing it. Most authors write stories to give lessons and mottos. Thus the author of this story Rudolfo A. Anaya would had purpose for writing this short story ��Celebration of Grandfather.�� In the paragraph above I wrote about authors�� perspective toward his grandfather. However, the author��s purpose of writing this story was to show his respect toward his grandfather by connoting his perspective toward the grandfather in the story.
To conclude, in the story the Anaya describes about the old values, however, I think we should respect the old values and try to preserve those old values and pass it on to the offspring. Any way by reading this story I got to think more about my grandparent counsels. Unlike my thinking, when I have a hard time they give me good advices. For example, one time I had a day when only unsatisfying events happened. I told those events to my grandparents and they said ��Try to think those events positively and don��t think it negatively, then you might feel better.�� After listening to the advice I got much better. In conclusion, the values of the older generation are well worth learning.
