My Weaving
This is my page for warp weighted weaving. I have a miniature self-supporting test loom. I plan to build a full size one at some point. I have done hardly any weaving on the one I have.
- Test piece of 2-1 twill in madder dyed wool. Was supposed to be a hat, but ended up pulling in too narrow, so I think it's just going to be a bag, once I sew up the other side. Other than the size, I'm happy with it.
Have now come up with the plan to try and make a close fitting hat (viking beanie), and add some brocaded tablet weaving as trim. Am currently messing around with patterns.
- My attempt at length. A pair of wickelbander in a thicker yarn, natural grey and madder orange (purchased, slightly darker than the orange I managed to get from dyeing). Also 2-1 twill, about 5 threads per cm in the warp (from memory, I could be completely wrong). Strip of cloth was woven to about 5.8m, when washed it shrank back to about 5.2m (which makes for fabulously stretchy wickelbander). It was then cut in half, and the ends hemmed with a herringbone stitch.
- Third attempt. A pair of blue wickelbander in 2-2 twill in indigo dyed wool (same thickness as first attempt). Am still in the process (Feb 08) of attempting to warp up the 2-2. Originally I tried for a herringbone, but I had something wrong, and when I've untangled all the warp ends again I can see if I've managed to get it right this time.
Pictures to come eventually.
