My Tablet Weaving
Haven't done much of this, should really do more some time. I've played with woven in patterns a little bit (only in wool), both plain chevron type patterns and egyptian diagonals. I then progressed to brocades, first in wool, my most recent one is done with dark blue Anchor embroidery silk brocaded with silver thread. I haven't tried any double face or 3-1 twills yet, I plan to eventually, but want to get better at brocading first.
- Garters in yellow and blue wool - this was a practice piece that found a use. They work very well as garters, but are quite thick, I wouldn't want to try tying them.
- Belt of green and off white wool egyptian diagonals. The buckle is horrible, but you mostly don't see that. This was my second attempt at tablet weaving (the first was a watch strap from embroidery cotton), there are a few mistakes, and the tension is a bit iffy near the end.
- Blue and silver brocade. Based on one of the anglo-saxon ones from Thora Sharptooth's article, it has 9 cards and is about 5mm wide (which seems to be about the right scale). I only used a single thread for the brocading thread, next time I'll try a double thread. I also plan to set the next brocade up on a loom (either my inkle loom or miniature warp weighted loom), since the silk is very slippery, and whenever I slackened the tension the weft sprang out from where it had been beaten.
I plan to put this around the sleeves of an overtunic eventually.
