Scooby Dooby Doo! TV HITS MAGAZINE July 2002 Issue #167

Put your best paw forward and join TV HITS as we walk you through this year's most barking mad flick, Scooby-Doo!

WHAT'S THE STORY?
Scooby Doo and his gang - Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma - arrive at Spooky Island to investigate a strange mystery which is haunting the Island's groovy holiday makers.

MEET THE GANG!

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR AS DAPHNE
Full name: Daphne Blake
Who is she? Daphne hopes to become a mystery writer and her father's wealth provided the gang with their van - the Mystery Machine.
Catchphrase: "Jeepers", "Would you do it for a Scooby snack?" and "This place gives me goosebumps".
Sarah on Daphne: "Daphne is just so out there and bold! She'd kind of outrageous with her short skirts and these wild outfits. It was also a chance for me to do comedy and take a break from my more serious Buffy frame of mind. And I got to prepare for a role by watching cartoons!"
On making the movie: "Scooby-Doo was fun. I had a chance to spend a few months in Sydney, which is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and I was working with the main in my life."
On Scooby: "There's nothing like shooting a movie where the lead never shows up. Talk about temperamental!"

FREDDIE PRINZE JR AS FRED
Full name: Fred Jones
Who is he? Fred is considered the leader of the Scooby gang.
Catchphrase: "Let's split up gang", "Maybe we can help them solve this mystery" and "Not so fast you two" (speaking to Scooby and Shaggy).
On making the movie: "It was so much fun. We had a blast on the set. The movie is going to be great, it's hysterical and we want to do a second Scooby movie! We hope it's a hit at the box office and I am glad that I picked this movie."
Scooby obsessed: "I have every episode on tape at my mother's house. I watch it every day. I don't watch regular TV, just cartoons."

SCOOBY
Full name: Scoobert
Who is he? Scooby is a Great Dane, and the key player in the gang. Because he's essentially a big scaredy, Scooby must be coaxed into scary situations by the rest of the gang with the promise of a Scooby snack!
Catchphrase: "Rooby-Rooby-Roo" and "Relp!"
Did you know? An Australian champion Great Dane named Beagles was on the Scooby set playing the live-action stand-in for Scooby Doo. The computer graphic animators created Scooby by comparing the qualities of a Great Dane with the cartoon character. "He'll look and act like a real dog," says Director Raja Gosnell.
Short fact: A dwarf named Chris provided the eye line for Scooby Doo. He stood where Scooby would be, so the actors knew exactly where to look.

MATTHEW LILLIARD AS SHAGGY
Full name: Norville Rogers
Who is he? Shaggy is Scooby's best friend, he's afraid of spooky and he's always hungry!
Catchphrase: "Zoinks!", "How about a snack, Scoob" and "Scooby Doo, where are you?"

LINDA CARDELLINI AS VELMA
Full name: Velma Dinkley
Who is she? Velma is the brainiac of the Scooby gang. In a matter of seconds she can provide solutions to tricky mysteries.
Catchphrase: "Jinkies!", "I think I'm finally beginning to understand this mystery" and "My glasses! I can't see without my glasses!"

SCOOBY SOUNDS!
With tracks from Kylie Mingoe, Baha Men and Sugar Ray, the Scooby-Doo soundtrack is huge! The first single to be released from the soundtrack will be Land Of A Million Drums by Outkast featuring Killer Mike & Sleepy Brown.
Shaggy also belts out his own unique performance of the class Scooby Doo, Where Are You? theme song!

MORE SCOOBY STARS YOU NEED TO KNOW...
ROWAN ATKINSON
Rowan, who you know as Mr Bean, stars as Emile Mondavarious, the owner of the Spooky Castle. He hires the Scooby gang to investigate the mystery.

ISLA FISHER
Ex-Home and Away babe Isla Fisher plays Shaggy's love interest Mary Jane and, in at least one scene Isla wears a huge blonde wig. Sarah Michelle let it slip that the cast joked with Isla about her Australian and American accents!

MICHALA BANAS AND KRISTIAN SCHMID
Always Greener star Michala Banas has a role in the film opposite ex-Neighbours star Kristian Schmid. "I play Carol, one of the people who's waiting to leave the island - we're all looking really dull, while the people arriving on the island are all wearing bright colours and looking really animated," she explains. "Then Kristian comes up to me, I grab him and throw him to the ground!"

SUGAR RAY
Mark McGrath and the rest of his band Sugar Ray pop up in the film, and they also contribute the song Words to Me to the Scooby soundtrack. "We play ourselves on Spooky Island," reveals Mark. However, he diodn't get the chance to bond with Sarah and Freddie. "We didn't have much to do with them" he says. "But I had a whole scene with Sarah and she was cool!"

HOLLYWOOD ON THE GOLD COAST!
Scooby-Doo flick was filmed in various locations on Queensland's Gold Coast, including Moreton Island, Mt Tamorine, Wet 'n' Wild and Warner Bros. Movie World. Filming started on February 13, 2001 and the five-month shoot required Sarah and Freddie to set up house in Queensland!
