BUFFY GETS HUFFY! BIG HIT MAGAZINE DECEMBER 1999
Issue #13
Are you sick of having to defend your favourite stars to people who just don't get it? Well, so is Sarah Michelle Gellar. After journalist Lynn Hirschberg wrote an article called, "Teenseltown" for The New York Times Magazine, in which she claimed that young actors in Hollywood have no talent, Sarah wrote an angry letter to the Editor. Here's her response in full...
"As a young actor in Hollywood, I feel that Hirschberg's article only perpetuated a myth that my peers and I have worked very hard to deconstruct. We have learned that going to parties and leaving our names in cute places will not help us as much as talent and hard work. We are not at the Whisky Bar commenting on others' social lives, but at home preparing for tomorrow's scenes. And to say that 'teen actors are not expected to have much acting ability' is unfair and untrue. How did Keri Russel win a Golden Globe and why was Leonardo nominated for an academy award? Instead of the same gossipy story, it might be more interesting to hear about 'new young Hollywood' actors who produce their own series and movies and who spend their time concerned with ratings and the overall quality of production."
