TRUTHS, RENEWAL CHAPTER 5 Quote of the Week: The Chinese symbol for crisis includes the characters for both danger and opportunity. ___________Lonely Heart___________ Anne peaked around the corner of the building and smiled slightly as she watched Darien walk up the sidewalk. 'This is perfect,' she thought with an evil grin. 'If I can just get Darien to notice me for a moment, I'll have him hooked!' She grinned evilly, 'This is gonna be perfect!' Darien came nearer to the alien in disguise and Anne ran around the corner and...missed her target completely, slamming into a tree. "Ow!" she growled as she stood up and rubbed her nose. She watched Darien as he passed right by her. She jumped up to grab him when she heard an annoyingly familiar voice. "Darien!" Serena called as she ran to her boyfriend. Darien snapped to attention as he heard the familiar voice of his girlfriend calling out to him. He smiled widely and turned towards her just fast enough to catch her in his arms. Giving a laugh, Darien swung Serena in his embrace and kissed her lips gently. Smiling, Serena took Darien's hand and the two strolled away. Anne growled under her breath. 'That rotten, no good-' "What are you doing, Anne?" a familiar voice asked. Anne faulted and turned to Allen. "Just out for a walk!" she snapped at him. "Nothing wrong with that." Allen looked behind his 'sister' and spotted what she had been after: Darien. He frowned and looked back at her, "Anne, we don't have time for this. You can't go after some miserable, pathetic human!" he yelled at her. Anne folded her arms across her chest. "Fine! But what's your excuse for going after Serena?!" Allen narrowed his eyes. "I'm trying to learn more about humans, Anne. I don't see-" Allen stopped when he realized that Anne had already walked off and wasn't paying attention. "Wait! Anne!" ********************************************************************* Darien wrapped his arms around Serena's waist as they walked to the Crown Fruit Parlor. "How you been, baby?" Darien asked Serena as he carefully maneuvered the two from walking into a tree and then a light pole. "Oh, I'm okay," Serena answered as she gazed up at Darien with tired eyes. Truth was, she was awful. It had been two weeks since the discovery of Tuxedo Mask and his semi-lack of memories. Serena had seen Tuxedo Mask four times in the two weeks, and three of those times she had been forced to abandon Darien, only to see him again five minutes later. It had been hard. Darien studied her eyes for a moment and narrowed his own. "Are you sure? You seem...depressed, I think." Serena avoided his eyes and shook her head. "No. No, I'm fine. Things have been a little hectic lately," she turned and faced him again, "but I'm fine." Darien shook his head. "Whatever, Serena," he muttered as he held the door open for her. Serena smiled at him gratefully and the two took a seat. "How was your day?" Serena asked with a smile. Darien smiled back and took her hand in his, gently caressing. "Lonely. I'm always lonely when I'm not around you." Serena blushed. "Darien..." she whispered and her eyes glazed over as he leaned into kiss her. Darien gently pressed his lips to hers. Very gently at first, but slowly the kiss became more passionate and deeper. And neither could help it. Darien pulled away as slowly as he could and Serena opened her eyes. As soon as their lips were fully apart a beeping interrupted the two and Serena felt like using her Scepter on the stupid communicator. "Um...that's my-" "Beeper," Darien finished coldly. "You should answer it." Serena gasped at the coldness in his voice and swallowed hard. "I'll be right back," she whispered as she got up and walked to the bathrooms and payphones. Darien sighed and slammed his fist on the table. He didn't know what had happened or why, but Serena had called off and cut short more dates in the past month (AN: She was Sailor Moon before Tuxedo Mask came back, remember??) than ever before, and it was upsetting him. He was jealous. Jealous of who ever was taking her away from him. And he was worried. What ever had been going on lately, was obviously tiring her out. And as much as he didn't want to think it, he was almost sure that she was seeing someone else. He never would have thought that, but the clues all added up. From the first moment that "Allen" boy had shown up, he had had a bad feeling. And when he looked at her, he could see the guilt and sadness in her eyes. 'Could Serena be seeing him behind my back? NO!' he yelled at himself furiously. 'She wouldn't do that! Right?' The more he thought about it, the more doubtful he became. ********************************************************************* Serena closed the bathroom door and hit the talk button on her communicator. "What is *it*?!" she hissed at Lita's face. Lita gave an 'eep,' before continuing. "Um...well, you're late to the Scout meeting. And Raye's gotten new readings. Luan wants you down here, now!" she told her. Serena sighed and nodded. "I'll be there soon," she mumbled and closed the lid. Straightening up, Serena walked out of the bathroom and to Darien. "Darien, I'm sorry," she apologized gently. "But-" 'Again. Figures.' "Leave," Darien whispered coldly. Serena gasped. Darien turned his eyes up to her and glared at her. "What ever you have to do is obviously more important than I'll ever be." Serena sat down next to him. "Darien, that's not true! I love y-" Darien shook his head. "No, you love someone else. I've seen it in your eyes when we're together. You look at me, and your eyes seem to be begging for me to be replaced by who ever you love." Tears fell from his eyes and he was nearly shouting now, getting the attention of most of the others in the Crown. "Who is it, Serena? Is it that Allen person? I've seen him around you an awful lot lately!" Serena shook her head and tears fell from her eyes. "No! That's not it! I would never do that! I love you!" she told him. Darien gave a chuckle and stood up. (The booth is not against a wall.) Serena stood up on the other side and ran to him. "Whatever, Serena." "Darien, stop this!" Serena yelled at him. Darien took a deep breath. This was it. "I don't want to *ever* see you again, Serena. You don't love me, so why should I love you?" he asked. He leaned down and kissed her, deeply, passionately, but briefly. "Good bye, Miss Tsukino." Darien turned around and walked out of the Crown. Serena touched her lips, feeling how swollen they were from his kiss. "No..." she whispered. Andrew came up from behind Serena and hugged her. Serena pushed him away and ran out the door, in the opposite direction of the Cherry Hill Temple. Andrew took off his apron and handed it to Lizzy. "Cover for me, 'kay?" he told her. Lizzy nodded and sighed as Andrew stalked out the door. "What happened to them?" she whispered. ********************************************************************* Darien slammed his door as he walked in to his apartment. He took off his jacket and threw it on to the ground before plopping down on his couch and burying his face in his hands. "Oh God, what have I done?" he asked himself. "I was going to ask you that same question," another icy voice said from the doorway. "What do you want, Andrew?" Darien asked. Andrew slammed the door, much the same as Darien had done only moments ago, and stalked up to him. "I want to know what the hell is your problem!?" he demanded. "Do you have any idea what you just did?!" Darien looked up and glared at his friend. "Yeah, I just broke up with Serena! I don't need you to tell me that!" he growled. Andrew slammed his fist on the coffee table and Darien jumped. "I know that! Why did you do it?! Because you think she's seeing someone else?! Jeez, Darien! Everyone knows that Serena would never do that to you! She loves you!" Darien didn't answer. Andrew sighed. "You don't have any idea how she's affected you. Even before you were dating, she affected you, because you loved her!" Darien still didn't answer. "I'm leaving. Think about it, Darien. Just because she has other things to do, doesn't mean you should be jealous and angry." Tears trickled down Darien's face as Andrew slammed the door and left Darien alone in his apartment. ********************************************************************* Serena didn't know where she was going, she just ran. She ran as fast as she could, and as far away as she could. She finally came to the docks in Tokyo Bay and collapsed down, sobbing. 'How could he?!' she demanded to herself. 'How could he even think I would do that to him?' "Darien...I love you! Can't you see that?" she yelled to the sky. "I...love you." She went over everything he has said in her mind. 'What ever you have to do is obviously more important than I'll ever be.' 'Your eyes seem to be begging for me to be replaced by who ever you love.' 'Is it that Allen person?' She wiped her tears and tried to stop them, but couldn't. After everything they had been through together, they were being torn apart by the reason they first met in this life. By what brought them closer together than ever before. Her eyes overflowed with tears again and she sobbed loudly. "How can he think those things?! How can he doubt me!? Darien..." she leaned her head on her knees and watched the sun slowly set. "Why can't you remember?" ********************************************************************* "It's late," Mina comments as she checks her watch and looks down the street again, searching for any sign of Serena. "She should have been here along time ago." "She was probably with Darien," Raye answered as she brushed her hair. "She'll be back when their date is over." Mina shook her head. Something didn't feel right. Something was terribly wrong. "I don't think so. I'm going to go look for her." "The enemy?" Lita asked. "No. I think something happened between them." ********************************************************************* Mina sighed as she left the Arcade. No one knew where they were. The only place she hadn't checked was Darien's place. But for some reason, she didn't want to check there. 'Something terrible has happened. I can feel it. Oh God, what have they done now?' she thought as she cast her head down and wandered the streets. Well, we all know what happens when one of the main characters isn't watching where they're going. WHAM! Mina gave a shriek and somehow managed to catch herself before falling to the ground. "I am so, so sorry!" she apologized. "Are you alright- Andrew?!" she asked when she saw who it was. Andrew sighed. "Yeah, I'm fine Mina, just can't say the same for Serena and Darien." "Serena and Darien?! What happened?! Where are they!?" the demanded. "Come on inside, I'll explain there." ~Two chocolate milkshakes later~ "You have got to be kidding me," Mina said in a dead pan voice. "How could Darien do that?" she asked. 'Cheese and Rice!' (AN: That's for Am-chan! Just think about something people say that rhymes with it, okay?) 'How could he do that to her? After all they've been- After all he doesn't remember them being through!' "And you can't find Serena?" Andrew asked, snapping Mina out of her inner monologue. Mina shook her head. "But if I know Serena, she doesn't want to be found." ********************************************************************* Serena wiped her tears away as she closed the door to her house and took her shoes off. Ilene, her mother, rushed over to her daughter and began to question her. "Where have you been, young lady?" she demanded. "Dinner was two hours ago! You were supposed to be home by six! That clock does not say 'six' on it!" Ilene told her. Serena sighed and nodded her head as her mother kept on telling her just how late she was. It took Ilene a full three and a half minutes to realize her daughter wasn't fighting her back, trying to give lame excuses for not being on time. "Serena? Are you alright?" she asked, her voice suddenly filled with concern. Serena nodded again. "Yes, mom. I'm going to bed thought. Night." Ilene stared after her daughter, dumbfounded as she slowly climbed the stairs to her room and softly shut the door. "Serena, what happened?" she whispered to herself. ********************************************************************* "-isn't home! I'm very worried!" were the words Serena heard as she closed her door and walked into her room. Luna was sitting on her bed with her tail nervously twitching around her legs as she talked into the small, pink calculator like object. "I'm home, Luna," Serena mumbled as she sat on her bed and curled in to a small ball. Luna looked up and gasped at the site of her young Princess. "She's back. I'll call later, Amy," she said as she closed communications with the young girl. "Serena-" "I don't want to talk about it, Luna," Serena whispered hoarsely. Her voice cracked as she tried to speak. "He-he-Dar-" Serena broke down in sobs and Luna jumped up to her mistress and lay down next to her, purring comfortably in her ear. Serena reached out and hugged the black cat tightly. 'Luna, I can't thank you enough for being here right now,' she thought. 'I don't know what I'd do with out you sometimes.' ********************************************************************* Tears almost came to Anne's eyes as she watched the Doom Tree, her source of life, whither away more and more each day. Nothing they had done was working, again. "Allen," Anne whispered. Allen appeared next to Anne and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Yes, my love?" he asked. Anne kept her gaze centered on the Tree and she sighed. "What are we going to do? The Sailor Scouts keep ruining our plans to take energy and when we can get some, the Doom Tree seems to rejects it." Allen took his gaze off of Anne and cast a glance at the Tree. "I don't know Anne. We can't do anything except get more energy, and try to destroy those little Scouts in the process." Allen pulled out a handful of cards and held them up to Anne. "Now, pick a Cardian, Anne!" ********************************************************************* Serena groaned as the incisive beeping sound awoke her once again. "Damn Negaverse. Why do they always attack at the worst time?" she muttered as she grabbed her communicator. "What now?" she snapped. Venus sighed. She really hadn't wanted to wake the girl, but they really didn't have a choice. "Sorry for waking you up, Serena, but there's a Cardian down town. We need Sailor Moon," she told her. Serena sighed and grabbed her broach. "Moon Crystal Power," she whispered half-heartedly. The energy of the Silver Crystal over took Serena's body and she jumped out her window to the Tokyo streets and began to run to the area Venus and the other Sailor Scouts were at. ********************************************************************* Tuxedo Mask ran as fast as he could toward where Sailor Moon was heading. He was not happy with his other half, the other half being Darien, as he raced to where the Sailor Scouts were. He only hoped he could apologize and find away to convince himself, er, Darien, to take Serena back. 'Man, this is giving me a major headache!' Tuxedo Mask thought as battle sounds came to his ears. "MARS FIRE BIRD STRIKE!" "JUPITER THUNDER CRASH!" Tuxedo Mask perched himself in a tree near where the girls were fighting and waited for a time he would be needed. He saw Jupiter, Venus and Mars fighting the Cardian, which looked like it was already dead, Mercury was to the side analyzing it and Sailor Moon was off to the other side watching the others fight. Tuxedo Mask's heart hurt to see his love standing so pitifully there by herself, and he knew it was his fault. It was always his fault. 'No time to think about this now.' In a small flash of unnoticeable light, a blood red rose appeared in the masked mans' hands. With a slight flick of the wrist, Tuxedo Mask sent his romantic weapon down and separated the Sailor Scouts from the monster. Throwing another one, he cut the monster on the arm and it screamed. 'This one is ugly," he thought as he looked at the black monster. It was all black with loose skin hanging off of it and white hair. It looked more like a witch than anything else. He didn't make any speeches. He simply jumped down next to Sailor Moon who cast a sad glance at him. Mercury looked up and her features brightened. "Tuxedo Mask, do that again!" Shrugging, the capped man threw another rose at the Cardian and several beeps came from Mercury's computer. "That's it! It can only physically be affected!" she exclaimed. "That's why our affects haven't been hurting it!" "You have got to be kidding," Venus murmured. "We have to physically *fight* that thing?" The words had barely left the Soldier of Love's mouth when Jupiter and Mars ran forward and began to beat the crap out of it. "Guess so..." she whispered as she rushed in to join the fight. Tuxedo Mask soon followed, throwing his roses whenever he got an opening. Sailor Mercury stayed back, because she knew she would be no help in this fight, and Sailor Moon only because of the murderous looks the others were giving her when she tried to jump forward to help. When they finally had the Cardian beaten to what could basically be called a bloody pulp, much to Jupiter's satisfaction. Seeing her chance, Sailor Moon pulled out her scepter and prepared to attack. "MOON SCEPTER ELIMINATION!" Without more than a final shriek, the Cardian disappeared in a flash of light. Tuxedo Mask cautiously stepped forward to Sailor Moon and cupped her chin is his hand, forcing her to look up at him. "Serena..." he whispered. Sailor Moon didn't meet his gaze, nor did she have time as a small pink alien appeared behind Tuxedo Mask and promptly launched an energy blast right at him. "LOOK OUT!" Sailor Moon yelled as she grabbed Tuxedo Mask and pushed him to the ground, causing herself to get hit in the chest by the power. "SAILOR MOON!" all the others cried as they ran closer to where the pink alien stood. Sailor Moon fell, nearly unconscious, into Tuxedo Mask's arms. The four remaining Sailor Scouts turned to the alien and growled. "You will pay!" Jupiter screamed at her as she launched her attack. Her lightning was soon followed by fire, ice and light. Anne smirked at the four attacks and dodged them easily. "Gonna take more than that to get me!" she sneered as she prepared to attack again. "Anne!" Allen called as he appeared beside his girl friend. Anne stopped her attack and turned to face Allen. "What do you want, Allen? Sailor Moon's down! We can get rid of the other Scouts easily!" she told him enthusiastically. Allen glanced at the young women and turned back to Anne. "Maybe you're right," he said with a smile as he fired a blast at the four who dodged just as easily as Anne had moments before. Tuxedo Mask watched the battle, an obvious stalemate, and looked back down at the unconscious face of his love. Planting a butterfly kiss on her lips, Tuxedo Mask set her aside and concentrated on his power, the power of earth. 'Please, I need you Gaia, Spirit of the Earth, here me! Lend me strength to help my love and my friends!' he pleaded. Opening his eyes, Tuxedo Mask smiled. He knew what to do. "Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber!" The Sailor Scouts turned their heads at the sound of this new power and were shocked. The blue-black energy of the Earth flashed in front of the two aliens, blowing them out of the sky and backward about thirty feet. Tuxedo Mask looked at his hands in amazement. He never knew he had that power, any power at all, locked away deep inside him. Looking up, he saw Anne and Allen slowly standing up. The attack had caught them so off guard that they had no time to block it, thus injuring them further. "We'll...be back," Allen rasped out as he and Anne disappeared. The Sailor Scouts took a moment to gape at Tuxedo Mask's power again, before their attention focused back to Sailor Moon. Their masked savior was cradling their leader in his lap again as Mercury rushed forward to scan her. "Breathing...sporadic. Heart rate...normal. First and second degree burns." The blue haired warrior looked up, her eyes filled with relief and concern. "She's stable, but still in serious condition. There's no way she would be able to explain this to her parents if they found out." "She'll have to stay with one of us then," Mars suggested. "But which one? I can't have her because of Grandpa and Chad." Mercury sighed. "My mum is home tonight. It's already going to be hard to explain if she finds out I'm not in bed." Venus shook her head. "My parents too. What about you, Lita?" she asked, turning to her green suited friend. Lita gave a small laugh. "My Land Lord forbid me to have anyone sleep over for the next two months because of how loud we were last time." All four of the girls smiled and turned to Tuxedo Mask. Immediately knowing what they were thinking, Darien shook his head. "No way, guys. Do you know what would happen to both of our reputations if that got out? And can you imagine what Mr. Tsukino would do to me if *HE* found out?" He shook his head again. "I won't do it, I won't do it, I won't do it, I-" ********************************************************************* "-can not believe you made me agree to this," Tuxedo Mask muttered as he lay Sailor Moon, now Serena, down on the couch. Sailor Venus was the last one in and she closed the balcony door behind her. "After the stunt you pulled today, you think we're going to let you get away with just sending her home and trying to explain that?!" Tuxedo Mask glared at Venus. "He-Darien-is jealous. Because of all these stupid Cardian attacks, and Serena having to keep leaving, Darien is jealous!" Tuxedo Mask snapped at the girl. "You do realized you were talking in third person, don't you?" Lita asked while trying to lighten the mood. Tuxedo Mask kneeled next to the sleeping girl and stroked her hair. "I feel like two different people now. Before, I was Darien and Tuxedo Mask was just another part of me. Now, I'm literally two people: Darien and Tuxedo Mask. Actually, Tuxedo Mask is more Endymion... And what am I going to do tomorrow morning? When I wake up with out any memories, Darien will be awfully suspicious." The girls gulped. They hadn't thought of that...maybe Amy had. The blue haired Scout had gone with Raye to test a new theory. She wanted to see if her computer could brainwash her parents into thinking Serena had been over at her house all night and that they had known about it. If it worked, Lita and Mina had their own agenda for that little device... "Simple, you don't detransform tonight," Amy's voice announced as she, as Sailor Mercury, jumped in from the balcony followed closely by Mars. The two detransformed and sat down on two nearby chairs. Luna, who had come from Serena's house with Amy, nodded her agreement. "And I've suggested that the other four girls stay here tonight, too. Just incase you un-morph subconsciously, they'll be here to get Serena out as fast as possible and make up a good cover story." Tuxedo Mask groaned. It was going to be a long night. ********************************************************************* Turns out the night was far too short. After Serena woke up, probably only an hour or so later, the group of friends began to really and truly talk again, as they used to, openly. Almost like a family. Tuxedo Mask had gone to his room and changed into street clothes and removed his mask. He technically wasn't de-morphed. He could still feel the power that being Tuxedo Mask brought, just without the weird get-up. Tuxedo Mask held his Princess closely as all of them talked and shared stories. It didn't take long before the two young lovers were asleep in each others arms. Lita grinned wickedly and pulled out a camera from her dimensional pocket and, despite Luna yelling at her for having the item in her pocket, took a picture of the couple. (AN: I'm still referring to him as that because until he truly detransforms, he's still Cape Boy!) The girls giggled a little more before quietly succumbing to their own exhaustion and falling asleep on the floor. ********************************************************************* The first thing Darien noticed when he woke up the next morning was that he was warm. Warmer than he had ever been, except when he was holding Serena. The object he was holding was roughly Serena's size and shape, him mind determined. A moment later, his mind decided, it felt too like Serena to *not* be her. Darien's eyes snapped open and he looked at the small angel asleep next to him on the couch. Darien's eyes widened. He didn't remember her coming over the night before, or staying the night for that matter. (AN: All dirty minds please leave now. That was not what he was thinking. At least not in *my* story. Or with the next part either.) He heard a soft sigh, but it didn't come from his girl friend. Looking over Serena's shoulder, Darien saw Lita, Amy, Raye and Mina asleep on his floor. "What the hell?!" To be continued... Everyone, don't take the last part wrong. How I have this intended to be written is that Darien is wondering *why* they are there and how did they get there. Now what happen the during the night that he doesn't remember. Now, how are the five girls going to explain *this* to their friend? Minna, for all of you who have been asking, I have done it!
