Star Crossed Memories moonklutz moonklutz@yahoo.com part1 rat:G --------------------------------------------------------------------- STAR-CROSSED MEMORIES 1-Ring of Despair By MoonKlutz AN: This is continued from 'star-crossed destinies' (and it gets happier latter, so don't worry!) Sad but true, What can I do? Without you... Life is worth nothing And all that I have, Is my dream... But does this dream have an ending? Or does it come true? Serena sat straight up in bed shrieking. "AHHHH!!! OH NO I'M GONNA BE SO LATE!!!" She leapt out of bed. "Why didn't somebody wake me up?!" her voice getting higher with each word, as she got ready for the day at faster than light speeds. "I did Serena, three times, and each time you said you were getting up, right away!" came her mothers distinct voice from downstairs in the kitchen. "And you believed me?" she asked incredulously as she grabbed her breakfast and lunch, zooming out the door. 'Boy, what a weird dream!' Serena thought as she raced towards the school. 'I was on a field in front of a dark castle and some girl on a balcony said that if I was nice to Darien I would find true love...' she shook her head and swallowed her toast. 'Freaky. I'll never eat cold pizza at 2am again, that's for sure.' She thought decidedly as she crawled into the classroom, slipping into her desk. "Hi Serena!" came one quite annoying and nasal voice. "Melvin, shut up!" she hissed at the nerd who sat behind her. "Serena! You're late again! Out in the hall!" screamed Miss. Haruna. "Yes, Miss. H." Serena said meekly as she stepped outside into the hall. She could still hear the muffled voices from with in. "Anne?" "Yippo yak zoo bleb Dai." Came Anne's tired reply. "What's that supposed to mean? Out in the hall!" Miss. H screamed angrily. "Yeah, yeah..." came a relaxed and bored Anne's voice. Anne and her brother Alan had moved here last week. Alan was a major hunk in Serena's opinion. "Hi Anne." Serena said casually to her new hall mate. "Oh. Hi Serena." Anne said disdainfully. "Did you hear? The senshi destroyed another cardien last night! It was right near Molly's apartment! But I hear Sailor Moon wasn't with them! Freaky eh?" "Who cares!" Anne moaned. "Well jeez Anne, you don't have to get all huffy. I'm sure Sailor Moon will be back soon!" Serena said reassuringly. Anne moaned and put her head in her hands. "What did I do to deserve this?" Serena walked home that afternoon staring discontentedly at the test paper in her hands. 'A 30? Mom's gonna kill me!' She thought sadly. 'Might as well drown my sorrows in some Sailor V fighter ga-" she cut off the thought as she slammed into someone and they both fell to the ground. "Oww! Hey, why don't you watch where you're going!?" she said angrily, not bothering to look up as she gathered her papers back into her bag. "Hey, I'm really sorry Serena, let me help you with that..." came a familiar voice. She looked up to see Darien picking her things up and putting them back in her bag. "Huh? Why didn't you call me meatball head?" she asked him, very confused. He looked up at her. "You don't really like being called that do you?" he asked her. "Nooo...." She said slowly. "Then why would I call you that? Cheer up Serena! You look like you've seen a ghost!" he said cheerfully, though something in his eyes said he was sad. Serena shook her head. 'Where'd that come from?' she wondered. 'Be nice to Darien = true love eh? Hmm... He's being nice, maybe it's worth a try...' Darien had already started to walk away. "Um, Darien?" she called after him. Darien turned around hopefully. "Yeah Serena?" "I'm going out for a shake, would you like to join me?" she asked cringing slightly. Darien's eyes lit up. "Sure Serena. I'd love to." He replied, trying not to sound excited. He walked back over to her and they headed for the Crown Center Café. 'Why does this feel so familiar?' She wondered. 'Like I've done this before! But I've never gone anywhere with Darien!' "What are you thinking about Serena?" Darien asked, breaking her thoughts. "Huh? Oh, I'm just wondering about these weird dreams I keep having..." she said off handedly. Darien seemed to be interested. "What were they about?" he asked. 'Maybe she remembers something?' "Well there's always this Princess standing on a balcony of this dark castle, but I can't see her. It's really foggy. Every time I dream it, she tells me something, and then I wake up!" "What does she say?" he asked. His palms were begging to sweat. "Well the first time it was 'you have to remember to win.' But I haven't forgotten anything! Then it was 'Even lost friends need help.' But I haven't lost any friends! And the last one was..." she stopped and blushed. "Yeah, What was it?" he asked, dying of curiosity. "I, uh... can't remember." She lied. He knew she was lying, which only made him more curious. "Oh." He said, pretending that he believed her. They walked in and sat down at a table. Lizzy came over to take their orders. "Hey there love birds!" she said cheerfully. "WHHATT??!!" Serena asked in shock. "What are you talking about?" When Serena looked at Lizzy, Darien tapped his head gently and shook it side to side, mouthing 'amnesia'. Lizzy nodded and made an 'I'm really sorry' face. "Oh, I'm sorry Serena. I didn't see Darien's face. I thought he was someone else." She said. Serena, being very gullible, believed her. "Oh, that's ok Lizzy. You just surprised me." Serena replied. She looked down at the menu. "I'll have..." and went off on her list of food she would eat. Darien looked relieved when she stopped. "Ahh...I'll just have a chocolate shake." Lizzy took it down. "Ok! I'll be back soon!" she said as she walked away. "I wonder who she thought you were?" Serena wondered aloud. 'You're boyfriend/fiancée...' Darien thought with a grimace. He shook it off and smiled casually. "Probably no one. Don't worry about it." He said looking out the window. 'Why does he look so sad! I mean, he looked sad before but now... It's worse somehow I think. Yes, something must have happened...' Their food came and the next few minutes were silence as they ate. Serena looked out the window and saw an old sign for the carnival. "Oh..." she said sadly. "I would've loved to go to that carnival!" Darien felt like she had just ripped his heart out of his chest. He wanted to tell her. To kiss her and make her remember everything she had forgotten... But Ami said they had to let her remember on her own or the memories would be false. "Actually, I had a dream that I went to the carnival..." Serena continued, grabbing Darien's attention back. "With that Tuxedo Mask guy. It was so real! Isn't that the freakiest?" she asked laughing. Darien smiled. "Yeah pretty weird. Did he win you anything?" he asked, prodding her memory to hurry up. Serena scrunched up her nose in concentration. "Yeah actually. Now that you mention it, he did. You're not going to believe this, but he won me a doll of you!" she said laughing. Darien laughed along nervously. 'Oh man, what do I say to that?' Thankfully, Serena looked at her watch. "OH NO! I'm SOOO late!" she screeched grabbing her bag. "Bye Darieeeen!" she called racing out the door. Darien smiled sadly. "Bye Meatball Head. I love you." He whispered. He pulled the small black box out of his pocket and opened it. Inside was an exquisite diamond ring on a silver band, sparkling with elegance. A tear slipped silently down his cheek, unnoticed by the other occupants of the restaurant save Andrew, who watched from the counter. Serena raced along her street. Something in the back of her mind was sad, distressed and upset, but she didn't know why. Serena shook the thought from her mind and raced in the door. She could hear her mother talking to someone in the kitchen. "What has she remembered?" Ikluko asked. "Not much." Came the British reply. "Most of what she remembers comes to her in dreams and gets twisted around." The voice was familiar, yet unfamiliar, recognition lying just out of her reach at the edges of her mind. Serena took off her shoes and set her bag down. "Who're you talking to Mom?" she asked as she headed for the kitchen. "Uh, No one Serena! I'm... practicing my ventriloquism!" she answered nervously in a flustered voice. "Uh, ok there Mom. I'm going upstairs." She said picking up Luna and laving the room. Luna purred and rubbed against her. "See Luna?" she told the cat. "This is why I like you being a cat. Cat's can't go insane or talk or do crazy stuff." She laughed as she walked upstairs. "I had a dream you could talk... You told me to clean my room! Isn't that crazy? Oh man. I can't believe I'm talking to a cat!" Luna meowed indignantly and hopped out of her arms at the top of the stairs. Serena laughed and went to take a shower. Darien shifted his leg a little to the left on the couch. He was thinking of how to get Serena to remember. Not only for him, but for the scouts too! They needed her! He took out the ring and looked at it sighing. He knew that even if she did remember it would be four years before they could get married... "Damn the laws!" he whispered vehemently, hitting the small table with his fist. It stung, but not like Serena's words had. There was a knock at the door. "Hey Darien, It's Mina! I brought over a cherry pie from Lita!" Came a cheerful voice at the door. He sighed and stood up. Mina looked so much like Serena... Did they send her here to taunt me? Darien opened the door to greet a smiling Mina, holding one fantastic looking cherry pie. She walked in and put the pie in the kitchen, preparing to cut it and eat some. "So are you and Serena together yet?" She asked as she pulled the ice cream out of the freezer where she recalled Serena mentioning it would be before... 'Before I died.' "No, but she did invite me out for a milk shake today." He replied. "Has she remembered anything?" Mina asked, concerned. "Well... She had a dream Tuxedo Mask took her to the carnival and won her a Darien doll..." He laughed bitterly. "Luna gave me the doll to keep until she remembers." Mina smiled, handing him a piece of pie. "Don't worry. You two will get back together again soon, I know it! After all, I am the Goddess of Love am I not? Now eat up before the ice-cream melts!" To be continued...
