Name: Moon Trilogy-Book One Chapter: Six Rating: PG For that one, terrifying moment, she relived it again. It never stopped coming to her in her dreams. The time her parents and brother died had almost driven her mad with all the things she had to do, just to ensure her that she could still have a future. Searching the streets for money wasn’t an easy thing when you wanted at least a decent meal that was very hard to find in a place like Tokyo. Because all of the first week restaurants had such high prices, she almost went for months looking for the right amount of change for the food and for tax. And half the time, it was stolen from her. For that one terrifying moment, she relived it. And woke up screaming on a bed. When her eyes popped open, she noticed the cold sweat she was in, and the tears coming out of her eyes. She was breathing hard, and she was about ready to burst into tears when a light came on. Her tear-filled eyes looked to the source of the light that came from a dimly lit lamp near the doorway, and with a hand on the switch, was Michael, standing there with his eyes looking at her with concern. “Katherine? What’s wrong?” She crouched down lower, towering over her legs that were crossed indian style, her arms hugging herself. “A dream.” She whispered so quietly. He walked slowly over to his own bed, and sat next to her, one arm wrapping itself around her shoulder. “Do you want to talk about it? Was it about your family?” She was half shocked when he asked about her family. She had a feeling he would know. “I just keep seeing them die again...” she mumbled. He had his arms fully wrapped around her now, trying to comfort her as much as he could. How do you comfort a person that has been homeless for two years and is an orphan? But she just sat there, crying in his shirt, and pulling him closer to her. For her, it was a little weird. She had nightmares like this all the time for the past two years, and she had never had a person to comfort her. She had always found a way to go back to sleep, but she would relive it again in the morning when they weren’t there for her. But now, someone was. He pulled her back a little and brushed away some tears in her eyes. He looked at her, almost uncertain on what he would say next. He tried to give her an assuring smile, but it didn’t work. He was a little confused when she started to laugh through her sobs, though. “It’s funny,” she said, pulling her head down. “I never thought I would be in a place where someone would comfort me.” “Sometimes people don’t care.” “No, it’s not that they don’t care, it’s just that they don’t realize that a person is in pain from past memories.” “Well, I care.” She looked up at him. His eyes were looking at her with all serousness, and he smiled. “Think you can get back to sleep now?” “Maybe...” “If you’d like, I can get you something to drink? Or maybe something to eat?” She shook her head. “No. I’m okay. Thank you, though.” He sighed. “All right. I guess I can settle with that. If you need me, I’ll be on the couch.” “{Where else would he be?}” she said to herself, pulling the covers back up to her cheeks. When he had turned off the light, she never had noticed the almost sorrowful sigh that he gave when he shut the door. It had rained again that night. A soothing rain that partially melted some of the snow that was left behind on the ground. She had awaken warm that morning, and the smell of bacon and eggs filled her nostrils. Her eyes opened to show herself that she was in a bedroom, and her mind slowly played back to her the events that happened earlier that evening. She looked over at the small dresser and found a plate with steaming beacon and two eggs with a note on one side, and her clothes on another. Her arm extended and she groggily reached for the note. Katherine, I made you breakfast, and all through the while I was thinking what you would like. The two kinds of eggs are hard eggs and soft eggs, because that is all I know how to make. And this note is in a very weird fashion because I am almost late for work having to make your food too. Aren’t I generous? I’ll be home for lunch at about noon. -Michael Her eyes shifted to the view of the still steaming breakfast sitting on the dresser. She picked up the plate, and sat up, putting the plate on her lap. Picking up the fork, she dabbed the soft egg, that soon had yolk oozing out of it. “{Doesn’t resemble poison.}” she thought with a laugh, and moved her fork to the hard egg, more content with that than the ooze coming out of what could have been called an egg. Sneering at the people that looked at him with worry, Amatite growled under his breath in frustration. This is where Katherine James lived, he had checked everything out. The coordinates were correct, this was the alley four blocks away from the arcade....so, where IS SHE?? “We told ya, we ain’t know nothin’!” one man yelled. “This is where she lived, right? So why isn’t she HERE??” Amatite grabbed the person by his smelly and dirty shirt, yanking him to meet him face to face. “We don’t know!!” Amatite bared his teeth and growled, throwing the man hard against the wall. Another man ran up to Amatite, a man bigger and stronger that he was, and grabbed him by the throat, squeezing mercilessly. Amatite grabbed his hand and made gagging noises, and his eyes rolled in the back of his head. He stopped breathing, and the man smiled. But Amatite opened his eyes, and punched the man in the nose, shoving the cartilage into his brain, killing him instantly. As the man fell back, so did Amatite as he landed on the floor, and turned his eyes to the homeless men in the ally. “Next?” The ally was empty when he left. Michael did return at noon. And when he came into his home, he found that hardly anything had been touched. Slipping off his coat and putting his gloves in his coat pockets, he walked into the bedroom, and a quizzical look came on his face when he saw Katherine, still lying on his bed, with a look of pure joy on her face. “Never,” he heard her say, “have I had something as good as that in the last two years of me being homeless.” “I’m glad you like it.” he said, chuckling. Her eyes darted open and she looked at him, then at the clock. “Noon? Already??” He smiled and walked over to her, sitting down on the bed as he did. “You slept well, I presume?” She closed her eyes and smiled. “The best in two years.” “Good. That was what I wanted to hear. I was thinking, I have the rest of the day off. Would you like to do something?” She raised an eyebrow. “Like...?” “Well, first of all I would like to take you shopping so we can get you some clothes,” he said, looking over at her clean clothes sitting on a chair. “Then for some lunch or something. What do you think?” “I think you don’t look like a person that would take a girl out shopping.” His head jerked back in shock. “ Hey, I’m graciously offering you a chance to get better clothes! “Well, it’s just what I presumed, anyway.” He pointed a finger at her. “Well, you presume too much!” She laughed and he smiled at her. She had a nice laugh, and this had to be the first time in a while that she could laugh freely. “You are right! I do presume too much! Maybe some more sleep would help.” “Not today. Nobody in their right mind sleeps after noon in Tokyo.” “Not true,” she said, raising a finger “in the ally, there was a man that slept till three!” “But that was a homeless person. Homeless people have the ability to do what they want.” “Not all homeless people.” They looked at each other for a while before Katherine brought her head down, sighing as she did so. He put two fingers under her chin, tilting her head up, and her looked into her eyes, gleaming over with tears. “It hurts, doesn’t it? Losing your family?” She closed her eyes and two tears fell. She hated crying about her family. She always felt so vulnerable afterwards, like a person would come and say that it was all her fault that they died. She had to nod, and when she looked up at his face, she didn’t see a person ready to mock her. He was looking at her with a twinge of pain in his own eyes, as if something had happened between his own family. She saw a person that was giving her pity, whose eyes were caring and full of...something...he was hiding something from her, she could tell. She couldn’t make out the expression. He brushed away some tears with his thumb, and pushed away a strand of hair, noting that her tears where coming more freely. He moved closer to her, and embraced her, comforting her as she cried into his shoulder. They had done this earlier, he noted to himself, and it felt a little strange that they were doing it again. Weren’t they trying to be friends? This all felt familiar though... “Remember when we did this sort of thing in the Silver Millennium?” His thoughts crashed. “Silver Millennium?” “Yeah, don’t you remember?” she said, looking at him. He chuckled. “The Silver Millennium is a Moon Legend. We were never a part of it. You have a very big imagination, though.” She gasped. He didn’t...remember? “And then what happened?” Serena asked, leaning over the table, waiting the answer that everybody else at the table wanted to hear. “Well, then he took me shopping for some more clothes, and I ran out of his apartment.” “You did what??” Lita and Mina said, pressing their hands to the table, and leaning on it. “We were getting too close for being friends. I shouldn’t have ben at his apartment in the first place.” “But that was so sweet! He was comforting you.” Raye said, swooning. “But this is where the scout business comes in. Luna, why doesn’t he remember anything?” Luna popped her little head out of Serena’s school bag shaking her head back and fourth. “Well, maybe because he wasn’t a Sailor Scout...” “But Darien remembers, and he isn’t a Scout!” “Well, Darien was the Prince of the Earth.” “And Drinien was the KING of the Sun!! That shouldn’t really make a difference, should it?” Luna sighed. “Does he believe that the legend could be real?” Katherine paused. “Well, no.” “Then there is your problem. You all believed that the Moon Kingdom was somewhat real. He doesn’t. What you have to do, is make him think that it could be real.” Katherine looked at her lap, and closed her eyes, nodding her head. “Alright. I think I am do that.” “Can I ask you something?” Katherine looked at Serena, raising her eyebrows. “Why did you run out of his apartment? Weren’t you happy there?” Katherine sighed. “Yeah, I was. But it wouldn’t be a very good example, as me being a Christian, to be living in a man’s apartment. As much as I enjoyed it, the realization hit me when we got back to his place.” “You are a Christian?” Mina asked. “Yep. Proud to be one, too.” The Scouts nodded their heads, as if to say to each other ‘Let’s change the subject’. “By the way, I was heading back to my home I the ally when I found it smashed. Luna, do you think the Negaverse could be back?” “YOU LIVE IN AN ALLY?!?” Lita, Mina, Amy and Raye nearly shouted at the same time. Serena looked at her, a sad look on her face. Katherine thunked her head on the table. “{Shoot. I thought everybody knew that.}” “Yes, I live in an ally, but that isn’t the point. I found everybody that lived in the ally dead. With incredible force too. Either we have someone very cunning, or very big on our hands.” Luna nodded her head. “Yes, I believe you are right. Artemis said that he felt something evil heading this way. We should be on the look out.” “Why didn’t you tell any of us that you didn’t have a home, Katherine?” Mina asked, looking at her glum friend who was busy examining her new shoes. “Because I have had experiences like that before. Most people don’t want to be friends with a homeless person.” “I don’t see why. Maybe if people got to know the person, they would see that he or she can be very pleasant to be with.” Katherine looked at her, and gave half a grin. “And if people got to know a certain bow wearing person, they would find that she is very encouraging, and a good person to be around.” Mina returned her smile. “Just be sure not to ask her for advice on school work. Just volleyball.” Mina laughed. “Yeah really!” Snuggling deeper into her coat, Katherine continued to walk sighing a few times along the way. Mina had left a while ago, and now she was on her own. Again. But she was used to it. She was about to give up and just run where ever to find a home, when Michael drove beside her. “Katherine, what are you doing out here?” “That’s none of your business.” she muttered. “Come back to my apartment with me, I’ve got a surprise for you.” “No! No more surprises!” She screamed, throwing off her coat, and throwing it at him, hitting him in the face. When he removed it, she was running as fast as she could down the sidewalk, little puffs of air coming out of her mouth. “Katherine! Wait!” He started the car and drove after her, turning the corner and yelling at her the same time. She ran down an ally, and he had to pull over. The ally was too narrow for him to catch her by car, so he ran after her with all he could. She turned a corner and grabbed a trash can, pulling at down and running away from it hoping that would stop him. But he heard it, and he jumped over it and ran harder. She ran harder, and made a sharp turn to a corner, slipping on some wet snow, and falling, cutting her head. She turned and saw him closing in on her and she forced herself to run faster, but when she wasn’t even two feet from where she fell, she slid across some thick ice, and smacked her head on the ice. And Amitite watched the whole thing. His eyes grew at how fast the girl could run, trying to get away from her soul-mate that was chasing after her. “{But she fell twice,}” he said to himself “{and now he has her again. But Diamond said to get her at a point that they were arguing.}” He laughed. “{Sure! That’s really going to get them, Diamond! Wait until they are falling in love. THEN I get them. Torture is my specialty, and it would be torture for him to live without her.}” His eyes flashed red, and an evil grin escaped his lips. “{Katherine James, Adrian Williams, you are mine.}”
