RATING: PG, there's some hitting in here...*sighs* Quote of the Week: "Problems worthy of attack prove their worth by hitting back." - Piet Hein 1905- : 'Problems' (1969) __________Reflections__________ Azurite and Alamandite kept their heads bowed down as their mistress watched both of their failures several times over. She said nothing; no displeasure was in her expression either. When the images were finally gone and the room lapsed into silence, only then did the two know the true anger of their Princess. Alamandite suddenly found himself against the wall with an extreme pain burning in his chest. He crunched his teeth together and held his cry of pain inside of him. "I-Please pardon me, Mistress. I will be stronger for the next battle and attack like I mean it. I should have learned from Chlorite's experience that Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask would be there, but I did want to challenge them. It shall never happen again, Princess," he promised with a slight rasp in his breath. "You had better," Opal hissed. "I learned my techniques from my parents, they were more forgiving than I am, or ever will be." (AN: This does not imply child abuse, I would never put that in my fics.) A half smile appeared on her lips. "However, I do understand your curiosity towards Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. No matter how much we hate them, they are the greatest and most powerful warriors of their Kingdom's." Her head snapped back to where Azurite was and she raised her palm. "Explain to me why you have had so few attacks," the young woman demanded. Azurite smiled at his Princess and stood. "My last attack was quite successful, Princess. Prince Alexander was taken down in an attempt to protect his sister. It was a grand day, Highness," he assured her with an evil grin. Opal leaned forward and rested her head in her hand. "Really? How interesting. I hope he's dead?" "Unfortunately, no, he lived through it," Azurite said regrettably. "I will finish the job next time though. I swear to it!" ********************************************************* Azurite traveled down the hall of the Palace and smirked as he did so. He knew he had made Alamandite mad back there, but he didn't care. He HAD almost gotten the Crowed Prince, second in line for the throne, killed. It would have been better to have gotten the Princess, but he knew that would be impossible. Not with the way the Soldiers protected her. He was still surprised he had gotten Alexander, he was just as hard to get to normally. "Liar." Azurite stopped and turned around to face the voice of Alamandite. "How so? I did, indeed, come close to killing Alexander. Even if you have just joined, shouldn't you have been able to take care of one of those weak Soldiers?" he asked. Alamandite shook his head. "That's not what I mean. Don't make promises to the Princess that you can't keep. I saw how you nearly killed him, but also, don't forget...it was only *NEARLY*!" he exclaimed as he disappeared from sight. ********************************************************* "Are you serious?" Queen Serenity asked Sailor Venus, who was bowing before her. "Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon also have a soul bond?" Sailor Venus nodded and looked up. "I swear to it...but Majesty, the similarities between the soul bonds that Serenity and Endymion, Serena and Darien, Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask all share is remarkable. It's...I've never felt something like this. Their souls are all so similar..." she trailed off in thought. Before the smoke could start (AN: I'm kidding! V-chan is very smart, but it's fun to make fun of her, she's so much like me.) Queen Serenity spoke. "I thank you for paying attention and informing me of all these things...Keep as close of any eye on them as you can, with out looking suspicious." Venus bowed low. "I will, My Queen!" ********************************************************* The blow struck her hard and as she got up, and brushed her short hair from her eyes, she began to wonder how she could let herself wander so far from the training she was supposed to be giving the Inners. "Saturn! Are you okay?" Mercury asked as lowed her arms from their position and ran to her fallen comrade. Saturn wiped the small trail of blood that began to flow and spit on the ground. "Yes, I think I'll be fine. That was...quite elusive, Mercury," she whispered, trying to cover up the obvious shame she felt. Uranus watched her sharply and narrowed her eyes, saying she knew something was very wrong and she had to admit it. She would find out. Saturn glared at her in return and left. "I'm feeling ill," she called as she left the training room. Mercury massaged her aching hand. She had only actually hit someone once, and that was an accident. "She acting different today, something must have happened to her." Looking not the least bit sorrowful, Uranus spoke the cruel and harsh truths. "The child is Death, it's not that something happened to her, it's more like something didn't. As though she was left out of life, in a way. She's always been like this, and she shouldn't have to be, but there is no choice. One of us had to be, and it was her. She doesn't regret it, and I won't regret it if I must kill her." Uranus walked out of the room, not caring if everyone, including her partner, was gaping at how harsh she sounded. ********************************************************* 'Why does this bother me so?' Saturn questioned herself as she hurried down the hall. 'I'm so worried, my emotions...I have these emotions. I never had to deal with them before and now-' "SATURN!" Uranus yelled as she caught up with the Soldier. Saturn stopped, and turned around to face the short- haired warrior. "What is it, Sailor Uranus?" she asked calmly. Shaking her head Uranus smiled slightly. "You know what this is about. You've been in a daze for several days now, since the day of the last battle, as though you're shocked by something. What has caused this?" she demanded. Her gaze turned cold and Saturn turned back around. "Nothing of your concern, Princess Amara." The sound of a blade unsheathing and a slight sound of jumping were heard as Sailor Uranus pulled out her Space Sword and lunged at Saturn, who didn't move as the blade came with a centimeter of her neck. "I *WILL* find out!" Uranus hissed as she put her sword back and walked away. But she stopped at the sound of Saturn's voice. Her face still remained emotionless as she spoke. "Uranus...someday we may be friends. I want to know you, and all the others, even Pluto. If things had been different, if I wasn't chosen to be Death, you would have asked me what was going on nicely, and I might have told you." Uranus clenched her fist and grit her teeth. "Don't speak nonsense." ********************************************************* Darien held Serena as she tried to run to Uranus and Saturn. They were watching and listening to everything that they said, and it was tearing Serena's heart to see two of her good friends, though only one of them knew that, going at each other's throats. "We can't blow it now," he whispered to her. "And we need to talk to Saturn about how she's been acting. The others are getting worried." His voice soothed Serena and she calmed down, if only slightly, and took deep breaths. "Why are they like this?" Serena asked, more to herself than Darien. As soon as Uranus left, Saturn leaned against a wall and looked up. "She's so against me..." Serena and Darien stepped out from their hiding place against the wall and stood in front of Saturn. "Are you okay?" Serena asked. Saturn sighed and forced herself to look up. "I was supposed to sleep for eternity and never deal with things such as friends, but then I was awakened by this new enemy, only months before my true awakening from what you've told me, and now everyone fears me. It's nothing to concern yourself with, Princess-" "Don't call me that," Serena gently instructed. "If someone were to hear, we could be in real trouble." Her eyes closed and Saturn nodded. "I know. There's so much to think about right now, especially with your lives in danger, and everyone who lives here too." "SERENA!" a familiar voice called out as Serenity came jogging up towards them. "I'm glad I found you, come on! I just found out something!" she exclaimed as she grabbed Serena's hand and ran down the hall with her. Darien was about to call out to them but shrugged and shook his head. "I think we'll find out soon enough." ********************************************************* Serena attempted to pull her hand from Serenity's, but couldn't while she was running. "Serenity, where are we going?" she asked. Serenity didn't answer and they continued running until they reached a large window. Serenity pointed outside and said nothing else. Serena blinked. All she saw were people walking, it was busier than normal, but nothing out of the ordinary it seemed. "Okay...what's going on?" Serena questioned. Sighing, Serenity pointed out towards the people. "They are gypsies. They're in town only for today, and I want to go! Their festivals are great...but Mother thinks it's too dangerous for me to go...but I really want to go! They usually don't stop anywhere close to the Palace, and now they're right outside it!" Serena bit her tongue, knowing where this was going. "Endymion would be too over protective and won't take me, the girls are simply out of the question...so you're the last one, Serena!" Serenity exclaimed as she turned to her new friend, her eyes begging her to come with her. "I don't want to go alone!" Serena's eyes got wide and she frantically shook her head "no" for several moments, exclaiming that there was no way in hell she would go. ********************************************************* Serena and Serenity exclaimed and pointed at different things at the festival. Food, dancers and palm readers were everywhere. Serenity had taken her hair out from her usual style and put on one of Serena's dresses. They had used makeup to attempt to cover up her birthmark and Serenity had to promise not to talk to anyone, let Serena do all the talking. Serenity agreed, just as long as she could come. Serena bought them each some food and they sat down to watch the gypsy's dance. They talked and giggled for what seemed to be hours. ********************************************************* "Have you found them yet?!" Queen Serenity asked Endymion as they met up in the hallway of the Palace. Endymion shook his head. "I can't find Serene or Serena. They're both gone. The Soldiers and Darien area all looking too, but they seem to have vanished into thin air." Endymion clenched his fist and swore to himself. "I should have kept an eye on her with all the attacks that have been happening." "She wasn't kidnapped," Darien stated surely as he walked into the hall with the Queen and Prince. "I don't think those people who you are fighting are that stupid. Besides, wouldn't the Soldiers have sensed the evil energy?" Sighing Serenity nodded. "But then where could she be?" She asked as she looked out the window. She stopped seconds later as she watched the festival that was going on outside. It clicked and she felt like banging her head several times against the wall. But she'd do that later. "I found them." ********************************************************* Serenity smiled at the small children who were dancing in the center of the crowd. They were smiling and happy, free. While she wouldn't give up her life for anything, sometimes she just wanted to be able to go outside without an escort and mingle. The children came around with a hat, asking for money, but got none from either Serena or Serenity. They had spent all their money on food. Not that either of them minded. Both girls stretched and stood up to go and look around more before they headed home, before they were missed, with luck. That idea was thrown out though when the crowd parted for a tall girl with short blonde hair and a Sailor Suit. The girl's looked at each other and bolted. If they were to be caught, they sure weren't going to be caught by Sailor Uranus! 'Crap, crap, crap, crap!' was all Serena could think as she and Serenity ran as fast as they could and hid behind a booth. "I think we were gone too long," Serenity observed with a panic tone of voice. "Really?!" Serena bit out sarcastically. She then sighed and looked away from the Princess. "I'll take the blame for this, Serenity." Two shadows came over both girls and they gasped, but relaxed slightly when they recognized the voice that spoke. "Serena, that won't be necessary." Smiling, Serena looked up at her boyfriend. "If you say so." Endymion shook his head and smiled. "You really wanted to come, didn't you, Serene? I think it would have been better if you got the Inners to come with you though, they would have helped you out in no time," he added. "Sometimes that thought scares me," Serenity muttered to herself. ********************************************************* Alamandite watched the festival from above. He had known that the Princess was alone with a friend of hers, who wasn't a Solider and had no powers. He was about to attack them when he saw two men, who looked quite alike, approach them. One, he immediately recognized as Prince Endymion. 'Well, seems the jackpot just got better!' he thought to himself as he summoned up not one, but two of his Tenma's. One was short and fat with a light red color, and the other was tall, skinny and dark blood red. They didn't need to be told their mission, and simply disappeared to do as they were programmed. ********************************************************* Endymion took Serenity's arm and began to lead the way through the crowds. "If we hurry, maybe we'll all get out of this un-scathed." "Don't count on that...Prince Endymion!" a voice hissed from above them. Everyone around them stopped, people screamed and soon began to run. "Not again!" Endymion moaned as he unsheathed his sword and prepared to fight. Looking up, they saw who their opponent would be and Serena and Darien began to back up slowly. They had to get out of here. Endymion pushed Serenity to Serena and Darien and gave them a look that they both understood. Grabbing her, they ran off, away from Endymion and the upcoming battle. "NOO!" Serenity screamed as she tried to go back. Serena and Darien wouldn't let go of her arms though, and forced her down the street. Suddenly, Jupiter appeared in front of them, ready to attack, thinking they were manhandling her Princess. Stopping she looked at the two questioningly. "Tenma," was all Darien had to say before Jupiter understood and bolted for where she had seen them coming from. Serenity stopped struggling then but, knowing Serena like he did, Darien didn't let go of Serenity. As they ran, something crossed Serenity's mind. 'This warmth in my hand...the way he runs...his expressions...' She found herself blushing at the thoughts and promptly shook them from her mind. 'He isn't!' "Going somewhere?" a voice asked from above them. Before any of them could react, a body came down from above them and ripped Serenity from Darien and Serena. "SERENITY!" Darien and Serena cried as Darien pulled out a rose. He forced himself to stop and take deep breaths to calm down. Until she was in mortal danger, they couldn't reveal themselves. Up above them, the tall Tenma held Serenity with a dagger pointed at her throat. Serenity was struggling, but stopped as soon as the blade came closer to her, she stopped and began to shake. She had little power to control at this time. She wasn't properly trained quite yet. Slowly, tears rolled down her cheeks and she closed her eyes, knowing she was going to die. 'Well, I'd call that mortal danger!' Darien thought as he formed a rose. "SERENITY!!!!!!" Endymion's voice screamed as he came into view. Taking his sword, he threw it at the Tenma and it hit is in the stomach, causing it to drop Serenity. Quickly, Endymion caught her, but found her passed out from terror. Not that he could blame her on that account. The Tenma pulled the sword from out of its' stomach and growled. Endymion smiled, thinking the monster to be fatally wounded, but no such luck as the Tenma's skin began to regenerate and grow back in place of the wound. Endymion wanted to be sick at the sight of it. Obviously, this was not going to be easy to defeat. The Tenma lunged at them again and this time the four of them didn't have to move as another body did for them. "SILENT WALL!" It hit the wall and screamed as it did so. "Get out of here, Prince and Princess," she ordered them. Endymion tried to run off, with Serenity in his arms, when he found that he was frozen in his spot, unable to turn and barely able to breathe. "Prince!" Saturn exclaimed as she ran forward and attempted to free him, only to find herself caught by the same trap the monster had set for him. Serena and Darien attempted to quietly sneak away, but the Tenma also caught sight of them. Putting it's palm up, it used the same spell it had before, but before it could hit them both, Darien stood in front of Serena, protecting her from the magic with his own, even though he was stuck there too. "No!" Serena exclaimed quietly as she reached to touch Darien. She pulled back, however, and ran away as fast as she could, until she reached a deserted area. Holding up her locket, she called out her transformation phrase. ********************************************************* "DEEP SUBMERGE!" There was a scream from the short Tenma, as the ocean waters literally tore its body to shreds and what was left of it fell to the ground. Uranus applauded her partner and smiled. "Well, I hope that shows Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask that we don't need them!" The others nodded in agreement, even the Inners did. They didn't like being proven that they were weak, especially since they weren't. "Maybe you don't need me, but right now I need you!" Sailor Moon exclaimed as she jumped into the center where the Tenma had been. "Please! The Prince, Princess, Lord Darien and Sailor Saturn are all trapped by another Tenma and can't move! Tuxedo Mask...can't make it today, so I need your help!" she begged them. "PLEASE!" After a few seconds, Mars spoke up. "We aren't doing this for you, but if you say the Prince and Princess are in danger...that's the only reason we will help!" Sailor Moon shrugged her shoulders. "Good enough for me, Mars!" ********************************************************* The Tenma laughed slightly as it looked at its prizes. The Prince, Princess, Sailor Saturn and another boy who seemed to be friends with the former. "My body..." Endymion gasped out, feeling the pain become nearly over-powering. He collapsed down, still holding Serenity in his arms. "What are you doing?!" he demanded from the Tenma. "Your body must not live to see it's future, it wouldn't anyway, but the soul...the soul is what I was designed to destroy!" the red Tenma explained. "And that is why, no matter how much you protect the girl, you both will die." "MERCURY BUBBLES BLAST!" A mist covered the area surrounding the demon and it's three prey. The monster knew who was here, who was coming. "Sailor Moon..." it hissed as it turned in the direction it heard footsteps. Sailor Moon stood by Sailor Saturn and seemed to be trying to break her from the spell with some sort of magic that no one else could see. After a few moments, she gave up. "I can't free you with out making it obvious who I am," she whispered to Saturn, who nodded her understanding. "Who sent you?" Sailor Moon asked as she kept a close eye on the other Soldiers who were trying to free Endymion and Darien and Saturn. Uranus took Serenity from Endymion's arms and smiled at the little Princess. "We'll get you to a safe place, My Princess," she whispered to her as she took off to the Palace. "I'll keep you safe." Venus watched as Uranus ran off with the Princess before turning back to the Tenma, who had engaged in battle with Sailor Moon. The two were exchanging blows to the best of their abilities, but it was obvious that Sailor Moon, while extremely powerful, had very few physical fighting skills. 'Well...Uranus will be happy to know she's not all-powerful after all.' "JUPITER THUNDER CRASH!" The lightening bolt smashed into the Tenma and slowed it down enough so Sailor Moon could get out of its line of fire. "Thanks, Jupiter!" she said gratefully with a slight smile at her friend. Jupiter didn't return her smile; neither did any of the others as they got ready to fight the advancing demon. It lunged one last time, this time at Sailor Moon, and used its powers to freeze all of them, even Sailor Moon, in place. "I WILL USE MY LAST STRENGTH...TO KILL SAILOR MOON!" it swore as a sharp blade appeared in its hand again. Sailor Moon took a deep breath and closed her eyes tightly shut. 'No.' "Sailor Moon!" Saturn yelled 'PRINCESS! I have to protect My Princess!' "SAILOR MOON!" Darien screamed as he began to fight the hold the Tenma had on him. He could let her die...not now, not ever. But as a wave of power came over his senses, he realized that someone was going to beat him to it. Her emotions fueled her for the first time in her life, and Saturn felt something she hadn't felt before. Friendship. Caring...all of it came from Serenity, in her form as Sailor Moon, the Princess and Serena. She knew of the future and she knew the role Serenity, no, Sailor Moon, played in it. She knew that the others would have done this, but they didn't know. And most of all, they didn't know what it was like to wake up for the first time in sixteen years with two people who wanted nothing more than to kill you. But Serenity, in all her forms, didn't care. "SILENT WALL!" Sailor Moon blinked in shock as Saturn held back the Tenma with her powers. "WORLD SHAKING!" Uranus returned to the battle with a blaze of golden power. She smiled at Saturn. "Admirable of you, Saturn. I didn't think I would make it in time to save her." The Tenma pulled back and hissed as the pain in its arms began to reach its tiny brain. Saturn held up her Glaive and closed her eyes. She hadn't used any of her other attacks quite yet. And this one was her second most destructive attack, and if she wanted it to, it could destroy the entire Palace. "SILENCE GLAVE SURPRISE!" There was a deafening silence as Saturn raised her Glave and aimed it at the Tenma, then it came down and the crashing was almost too much for the ears of the Soldier's to bear. But when they could finally concentrate again, they saw nothing left of the Tenma, not even ashes. "Saturn!" Moon gasped quietly as she was able to move again. Everyone either fell forward or turned around to face Saturn, who looked away. "I just saw...that it was trying to hurt my Princess, the one who cared about me and doesn't care that I'm death, or could kill her in a second." She fought back tears. "I didn't want that to happen to Serenity, or to Sailor Moon." At that moment, Sailor Moon decided that it was her cue to leave, and she would have too, if she had not been grabbed by an arm that proceeded to hold her so she couldn't move away from her. "Speaking of Sailor Moon," Jupiter said as she held onto the girl tighter, "you owe us some answers." Darien tried to run forward, but Saturn caught his wrist and shook her head, indicating that they should leave this be, and let Sailor Moon deal with it on her own. The Soldiers, even Saturn so that it would look like she didn't already know, formed a circle around Sailor Moon and Jupiter, who still held her. Mars, Uranus and Neptune (AN: Sorry if it seems I'm singling Uranus out a lot, but this is how she acts!) walked forward so that they were closer to Sailor Moon. "Queen Serenity isn't here now, Sailor Moon," Neptune spoke, "and we want answers." She pulled out her Deep Aqua Mirror and pointed it directly at Sailor Moon. "I didn't want to have to do this, but it's the only way for us to know, and for you to have to stop running." 'Oh no,' Sailor Moon thought as she struggled against the powerful Jupiter. "Don't!" she begged. "Please, I want to tell you, I really do, but I can't! It's forbidden!" Tears welled up in her eyes and Neptune stopped as she made contact with those familiar eyes. "I want to be your friends, but you have to trust me!" Sailor Mars put her finger on Sailor Moon's forehead. "Sometimes, things must be gained by giving." Closing her eyes, Sailor Moon bit her lip. She had no choice. "Lita," she whispered as she pulled her elbow away slightly, "please forgive me!" Jupiter's eyes got wide at the informal use of her name and even wider when Sailor Moon's elbow made contact with her stomach, HARD. Much harder than she would have expected it to have. She fell to the ground, and had to let go of Sailor Moon, who immediately ran off. The Inners dropped down to their friend and began to ask her if she was okay. "COWARD!" Uranus cried as she prepared her attack, but Darien grabbed her wrist. "If she's a warrior like you, then let her retreat and protect herself for now," he told Uranus. Mercury helped Jupiter stand up and walk. Sailor Moon was strong, both physically and magically. "Did anyone see where the Prince went?" Mercury asked, trying to break up the obviously tense atmosphere between Darien and Uranus. ********************************************************* Queen Serenity dipped the cloth in the bowl of water by her daughter's bed and wiped her brow again. At first it seemed she had fainted from just terror, but now she had a fever, and that was most likely part of the reason. "This is not good," Luna murmured as she watched the Princess sleep. "No kidding," Artemis agreed. The doors to the Princess' room burst open and Endymion ran though them with a look of panic on his face. "Serenity!" he cried out as he reached her bedside and touched her face and forehead. "What has happened, Your Majesty?" he demanded. "This isn't from the Tenma, is it?" There were several moments of silence before Serenity spoke up. "I don't believe so. She was probably sick before she left, but ignored it so she could go to the festival." A smile crossed her lips. "She's always been like that, and I see no sign of change." Her smile faded and her face became panicked. "The Tenma?!" "Destroyed, My Queen," Venus reported as she and the other walked in, along with Darien and Serena, whom they had picked up along the way. "Sailor Saturn destroyed it, with out Sailor Moon's help." She stood and straightened her posture. "Is everyone alright? Serena and Darien? Jupiter, you look a little pale," she observed. Jupiter rubbed her stomach and gave a sarcastic smile. "Well, let's just say that Sailor Moon is much stronger than she looks...I'd hate to be nailed by her right hook!" "SHE HIT YOU?!" Serenity all but yelled. Jupiter shook her head. "It was my fault entirely. I grabbed her and tried to force answers from her, along with Mars, Neptune and Uranus, when she asked me for forgiveness, and then elbowed me in the stomach. I had it coming," she finished with a shrug. Serenity turned to Serena and Darien. "And you?" Serena didn't raise her eyes, and refused to meet the Queen's, her mother's, gaze. "I got away from the brunt of the attack, because Darien protected me..." tears began to form in her eyes again; from the thought that she could have lost him and the memory of what she had just done to one of her best friends. "I'm sorry! This is all my fault for agreeing to take her! None of this would have happened if I had said no!" "Serena!" the others exclaimed as She collapsed to the ground, soft sobs coming from her throat. Darien didn't hesitate for a moment, and picked her up Princess-style. "I'll take her to her room," he announced as he left with her. Once outside the room, Darien kissed Serena's neck and looked at her face. "If you were scared at the thought of losing me, imagine what I felt when I saw that Tenma coming towards you." His voice almost broke and Serena looked up. "I wouldn't have stopped, Serena, and my powers weren't focused enough to stop it." Serena's eyes got wide as Darien continued to walk down the hall with her. "Darien..." "Don't leave me," Darien begged her as he set Serena down in a chair in her room. "Please, don't leave me." Putting a hand to his cheek, Serena looks deep into to His eyes, into His soul, and softly states, "I'll promise if you will." To Be Continued...
