Queen of Legends, Part Four, by Sailor GltterGirl, April 2001 Ack! This is the hundredth time I've re-written this part! Ugh! I think I've got it now, though. At least I hope so. *sigh* Anyways, anyone know of a site that has Sailor Moon and Batman Crossovers? I'm looking for them but so far no luck. Except for on Jennifer Wand's homepage, but it's not the best in the world. Great plot, but comes off as rushed. Oh, well. Not everyone -okay, no one- can be as good as me. Aren't I motest? Alright, I'll stop yapping now, though I haven't gotten any complaints yet regarding my mile long author's notes. That probably means most of you don't bother to read them, huh? Anyways, another thanks to Glitter for e-mailing me. Sorry I didn't get a chance to write you back that one time. Hope you got my attachments okay. Now on with the show! -Sailor GlitterGirl **********QUEEN OF LEGENDS********** Part Four: Playing Dirty Rated: G -this part is a comedy. Sorta. By: Sailor GlitterGirl At: emeraldgoddess@SailorJupiter.com THIS PART IS DEDICATED TO MY BOYFRIEND, ROY, FOR HELPING ME TREMENDOSELY WITH ADVICE ABOUT GETTING MY NOVEL PUBLISHED. THANKS, SWEETIE (TEE-HEE!)! ********** "That's it? That's the bet?" Raye said, looking at the prince as if he were insane. "That's...that's ridiculous!" Raye tossed up her hands and then settled them on her hips. The five of the girls, Mina, Lita, Amy, Raye, and a dark Serena in a corner were meeting with the prince and his adversary in the wager, Mr. Anderson, in the library. Along with the prince had come the Generals, whom had all simontantiously dropped their jaws at the site of the girls anew in their finery when the young women had entered the room, roughly twenty minutes ago. "Aw, come on, Raye," Mina drawled, brushing off an imaginary piece of lint from her gold gown. "I think it'll be fun. We get be treated like real princesses!" "We're more real princesses than any royal princess." Lita muttered. "Oh, how so?" Kunzite asked. Lita glared at him. "Because we actually care about other human beings besides ourselves, regardless of stature," she hissed. "Couldn't have said it better myself." Raye muttered, folding her arms over her chest and leaning against the wall. "That's enough, girls," Serena said quietly, but with clear authority. She pushed away from the wall, and walked into the light where they could see her better. Darien, as much as he hated the girl for her guts, had to resist the urge to gape as he saw her clearly for the first time, without dirt and blood staining and hiding her face. Standing there adorned in shimmering silver, bathed in sunlight as golden as her hair, he couldn't help but think that she looked like a goddess of light. "So, let me get this straight." Serena said, looking at the prince, then to the doctor. "You," she said, pointing to Dr. Anderson. "Wnat to start a school for the 'low-lives' of Earth, here in the capitol, so that those you have the determination and will to be high born, but were birthed into low born families, might have a chance in society, and a shot at happiness, right?" "Correct, mi'lady," "Don't call me lady." Serena said automatically, then continued, looking to Darien, contempt and disgust plain on her face. "And you, oh most-high-and-mighty- prince, think it's a waste of time, seeing as anyone lower than you ought to stay there, that because of the cirumstances of their birth and life they don't stand a chance in their world, am I right?" Serena's voice as low and dangerous. "And you think this without giving them a chance, correct?" Darien smirked. "You've got it in a nutshell, princess." he said, and stood up, and, taking Serena's hand, brushed his lips lightly across it, eyes daring her glaring friends to do something about it. Serena narrowed her eyes and glowered at him. A low snarl was heard from Raye, and Amy, standing beside her, put a gentle hand on her shoulder to silence her. Mina leaped forward and caught Lita's wrist as the brunette jumped up, fists clenched. The blonde, although not as strong but with the element of surprise, was able to yank the snarling Lita back down to her seat on the couch. Mina hissed something in the girl's ear, and her outraged expression settled to a menacing glare aimed at all the males in the room, save the doctor. "Now, where do we come in, may I ask?" Amy inquired timidly. Dr. Anderson smiled at her, reconigzing the shining intelligence within her. "Miss Amylanora, you enter the story when Prince Endymion here, and I agreed on a bet, a test of sorts, to see if I was right. He was to select one maid -or five, I suppose- to bring to the palace to be educated in the ways of the court and elite society for two months. At the end of those two months, the eighth birthday of Princess Rose, Prince Endymion's younger sister, would take place. If the princess is pleased with you girls, then I will have won the bet, and shall recieve permission to start my school, with you five, perhaps, as my first teachers. If the princess finds fault with you, however, then, well, we haven't worked that out what will happen to you, but I will loose all chances of my school." "Oooooh," Mina said slowly, "I get it now." She touched her chin in a gesture of thought, then glanced up at Kunzite. "Out of curiosity, boys, what's your views on this?" "We follow the prince." Kunzite said simply, though his eyes betrayed that he thought otherwise, and he knew it as he gazed at Mina. Mina blushed, and cleared her throat, looking away. "They sound like perfectly trained dogs, eh, Raye?" Lita said to her raven haired comrade. Raye snorted, and Amy elbowed her, as Mina kicked Lita's shin under the cover of their long skirts. Jedite coughed, masking a snorted laugh as Zoicite, nudged him in the ribs, signaling for him to hush. Kunzite hid a smile, while his eyes danced, and Nephlite could only shake his head, and grin slightly. "It's scary how much they all act alike." Darien muttered to Serena, whom was still standing close to him, her hand in his. She flashed him and irritated look and drew her hand away, and went to stand on the other side of Raye, leaning against the wall and folding her arms over her chest. "So, you guys have got two months to turn us from 'uncivilized, untrained, illmannered slutty street girls' into 'high society, well-behaved, proper, and obediant' ladies of the court?" Serena asked, throwing her words back at the prince. He blink for a moment, then smiled; he hand't realized she'd heard him say those things. *They must have been listening outside the door before we let them in,* he thought. "Actually..." Darien said, smiling wickedly, as he raised his hand and snapped his fingers. At the sound, the doors opened and six elderly women walked in stiffly, frowns plastered to their faces, along with too many cosmetics. "...They will be the ones to turn you from the 'slutty street girls' into 'High-society, obediant ladies.'" Lita growled, and Mina slapped a hand over her mouth, smiling prettily at the teachers. "Breakfast must not be settling well with her," she said sweetly to the women as they blanched at Lita's reaction. "Well, they're better than I'd expected," one of the women stated, after inspecting each of them, then narrowed her eyes at Raye, who glared. "But they still need some work. I hope you girls know how to respect your betters?" She asked, looking pointedly at Serena over her glasses. Serena brought herself up to her full height, putting on her best air. She opened her mouth with a witty reply, but one that could not be considered disrespectful. But Amy, anticipating this reaction from her leader, beat her to it. "Of course, madam," she said, curtseying prettily. "We shall do out best to pay all due respect to you and your fellow Mistresses." Stiffly, reluctantly, Lita and Raye bent their knees and bowed their heads slightly along with the now cursteying Mina and Serena. "This is going to be soooo fun." Serena muttered sarcastically. Stiffling a surprised screech, Serena barely managed to keep from toppling over onto the prince as Amy, from around Raye, kicked her in the shin as they rose to their feet. *********ONE*MONTH*LATER********* "And up, and sip, and down. And lift and nibble and down. And lift and pat and down." Serena, Lita, Amy, Raye, and Mina lifted their tea cups, took tiny bits of biscuts, and patted their lips daintily with a embroidered napkin upon command. Of them all, Serena, Amy, and Raye were doing the best. Mina and Lita, however... "I still don't understand the meaning of THIS drill." Lita grumbled to Mina beside her, who was desperately trying resist the urge to slurp her tea and spit out the atrosious biscuts. "Me neither." Mina sighed. "I would much rather be dancing than 'nibbling' at these nasty rocks." She made a face as she lifted her biscut to her lips again, and grimced as she swallowed, tying not to gag. "They're breaking my teeth!" "Very good ladies, you may pat your lips one last time and then proceed to the Blue Ball Room." Mina relaxed noticably in relief and tried to suppress a sigh, but didn't quite catch it. "Miss Vemina, what, pray tell, is so ominous about my teaching that you are so anxious to leave?" "Wha-well, I, uh, er, um... well.' "She requires asistance in a particular dance step, and I promised I would help her with the Shiena Waltz today. She is anxious to work on it." Serena supplied smoothly. Regaining her composure, and putting into practice her skill as an actress, Mina sighed a defeated sigh again, managing to make it sound very lady-like. In truth, her dancing was nearly as good as Serena's when she choose to drop the klutz act. "Yes, I do so need to work on my steps." Mina smiled prettily at the Etiquitte Mistress, Mistress Liana. "And your lessons have helped my hand and eye corrdination so quickly, I, well, I must say I feel it is a waste of time, since I have improved so greatly under your teaching." Lita suppressed a snort, and Raye kicked her under the table, enducing a slight yelp of surprise. Mistress Liana looked at her sharply, and Lita sat up straight, folding her hands in her lap, and presing her ankles together, sitting as properly as she could. Mina had to stiffle a giggle. "Well, then since you five seem so confident in your posture," she placed a hand on Lita's shoulder, making it so the brunette had to stay in that position unless she wanted to stay for another hour. "And your table manners," she looked sharply at Mina, who quickly placed her napkin down to hide the crumbs. "We will have a sort of pre-test tomorrow evening at General Kunzite's sister's ball. From that we shall determine how much more training you need to please her highness at the royal birthday ball." Lita, along with a sulking Mina, couldn't help but groan slightly. "May I ask if this was planned beforehand, Mistress?" Raye asked politely. "Yes, may ask, and yes, it was." Mistress Liana smiled at the raven haired young woman genuinly. Merraye, she was the best pupil. Amylanora was a bit shy, and a little afraid to try new things. Vemina, while beautiful, was a hopeless ditz, and a bit clumsy, though she had been improving, and her dancing was that of a gracefull bird. Occasionally. As for Lita, it was so obvious that the athletic Julita thought all the pomp and frills of being a lady useless and silly it made Mistress Liana fume. But the worst, in a way, was their 'leader,' Serenity Lunari. She obeyed the commands she was given, and did them to a 'T' and could easily have been a teachers pet. Her dancing was superb, as if she had been raised in an enviroment with no gravity, her manners her perfect, and she learned well and quickly. She was radiantly beautiful, and her curves made for every seamstress's dream, while her silky golden hair was the desire of every hairartist's career. But there was a defiance about her actions that made all the Mistresses seeth. An air about her that clearly stated that if she did not wish to do something, she would not do it. Period. And yet, at the same time, there was something in her eyes that reminded you of an angel. Guarding and friendly. Warm and comforting. She was the puzzle of the palace. "You are dismissed," Mistress Liana said, hiding her tone of weariness. They rose, some more gracefully than others, and walked lightly out of the room, silk and satin and velvet gowns swishing elegantly. Watching their steps carefully to ensure their posture was passable, Mistress Liana nodded to herself in satisfaction. Those girls just might prove the prince wrong. And perhaps, just perhaps, one might catch his eye. *It would do him good to have one of those girls in his life. They all have spunk and a light to them,* the Mistress thought. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* "How can they *DO* this to us?" Mina wailed, falling back onto her bed, still dressed in a yellow, gold stitched satin gown with a overdress of lace covering it. After their escapade with Mistress Liana, they had proceeded to their dancing lessons, where the mistress for that class, Madam Franchesca, had declared that she would also have them dance at the party the next week. The girls had known of the party for a a while, along with everyone else, but had never dreamed that they would be forced to attend. Then the sewing mistress had said that their test for sewing, since you can't exactly sew during a ball, would be to make their ball gowns. Similar things had happened with all the other classes, save riding and the short, 'ridiculous' (as Lita put it with scorn and disgust.) sessions of self defence, which was the only one in which all five girls flourished, and other ladies tended to fail miserably. In reading and writing they were to write a play for the main entertainment, and in the 'Flippity' class, as Mina, Lita, Raye, and Serena had dubbed it, they were in charge of making most of the flower arrangements, decorations, invitations, and such for the ball. "Well, if we perform well at the ball and pass those 'pre-tests' then they'll leave us alone." Raye said. "Or maybe they'll advance our studies." Amy said thoughtfully, hopefully, placing a single, slender finger on her chin, deep in thought while dreaming about the many books in the library. "Uck, please Amy, don't give me nightmares." Lita made a gagging motion. "I just want them to get off my back for three minutes so I can sneak off somewhere to do some training. I bet if a group of renegades came upon me now I'd be as helpless as a REAL maiden." "THAT'LL be the day," Raye snorted. Lita stuck her tongue out at her. "Well, anyway, it'll be fun if we get to dance with guys instead of each other, at least." Mina pointed out, then sighed. "As long as there's no getting out of it we might as well be optimistic." "You guys are forgetting something." Serena stated. Mina froze. *Oh, no, not again.* the blonde thought. It had been two weeks since their arrival, since that time that Serena had been lost to them momentarily to her eerie thoughts. Mina had not forgotten that look, as she stood in the window. Mina's blood ran cold with dread as she saw her friend, almost her sister, standing in the window with that same expression, same pose, same psoture and aura of pain and suffering. "What are we forgetting?" Raye asked cautiously. "We're not important to them." Serena stated unemotionally. "We're here as a bet, an asset to further his Highness's ego. As soon as he's lost he'll throw us out, wanting to be rid of a form of proof of his failure." "B...but..but, Dr. Anderson... He wouldn't allow-" "As kind as he is, Amy, he is only a doctor. If the prince orders something, he'll have to do it." Everyone looked, surprised, at the speaker, and were slightly shocked to see that Mina was the owner of the voice that had spoken. "Serena's right. As soon as they're done with us, as soon as the Princess's ball is over and we've proved them wrong, they'll throw us out, like yesterday's garbage." Mina looked down. "We've been our own undoing." "What do you mean?" Raye asked. "Isn't it obvious, Raye?" Lita asked, now angry. She slammed a fist into her palm. "By doing better and exceeding in our lessons we're making the prince and his bet look ridiculous. He'll get ride of us as soon as he can. You heard what the doctor said; no arrangements had been made as to what would happen to us if we won the bet. So you can stake your life that the Prince will to everything possible to make sure we're at least thrown out on our butts!" Suddenly, Lita sighed in defeat after her outburst, and everyone else fell silent at the truth in her words. "And it's too late to do anything. We've already proved talented in certain areas. We can't just go and suddenly start failing." "Well, what can we do?" Amy asked, sounding worried. "I say we not bother to do anything." Raye said, shrugging and sitting down in a chair. "We'll be kicked out eventually, regardless of what we do, lose or win, so we might as well let them give us the boot now. The less time we spend here the easier it will be for us to get back into the Alley Senshi. Something tells me they won't be too generous when they find out where we've been. Neither will the people; they'll think we've betrayed them as well." "That's another reason I think we should stay." Serena said. "What? So we can be kicked out of our old home, too?" Raye demanded. "You're crazy!" "No, she's a genius!" Mina said excitedly. "Huh? What do you mean?" Lita asked, sittng beside Amy on a small couch. "Don't you see?" Mina asked, turing to face them all, except for Serena, whom was still at her window. "If we can find a way to communicate with the Alley Senshi, tell waht's going on, so they know we're not betraying them, then somehow obtain knowledge of what provinces the King and Queen plan to raise the taxes in next, we could warn the people!" "What good would that do?" Raye asked, still doubtfull. "It would give them a chance to stock up on food and supplies, enough to get them through the time when the taxes are high in their area." Lita said, catching on. "We could also smuggle medicines and tossed out books out to them, so that the sick could get better treatment and the children could keep up their studies!" Amy added, also beginnning to get excited. "Plus we could probably talk the wash women into giving us some ripped or stained sheets, a couple at a time." Raye said thoughtfully. She looked at Serena wristfully. "It might work. If we're careful." "Hey, we weren't all raised to be the elite of the Alley Senshi for nothing." Lita reminded the raven haired girl. "These palace pomps? They don't know the first thing about burglary; how would they know how to prevent it? And even if they had the best anti-theft system in the Universe, there's no way they'd be able to stand up to the Ladies Court of The Alley Senshi! It'll be a peace of cake!" "Yes! Serena, you in?" Mina asked, turning back to their Alley Senshi Queen. Serena smiled. "Of course she's in, baka!" Raye said, standing up and bobbing her friend on the head. "It was her idea, not yours!" "Actually," Serena said, laughing, "That wasn't what I was going to say; it IS Mina's idea!" They all blinked for a moment, then laughed. "Alright, then! Operation Mission Lady Thieves is now commencing!" "Yeah!" The girls, including a now smiling Serena, did a group high-five. "But...how will we get word to the Alley Senshi?" Amy suddenly said, putting a slight damper on the excited feeling in the room. Then, Serena smiled. "Leave that to me," she said. "But for now, we need to figure out how to MAJORLY impress the Mistresses, so they'll let up on our studies, giving us more time to work on Mission L.T. more. But we need to do it without looking suspicious. And we need Mina," Serena nodded to her friend, "To give us some acting lessons." The girls all smiled devilishly, and they could practically see the horns and pointed tails growing on each others' heads and behinds. They spent the rest of the night plotting and scheming, and didn't get to bed until late at night, without changing clothes. All were asleep within moments, all except Serena, whom was deep in thought. *No matter how you look at it, this will all end, and soon,* she thought. Then she smiled widely. *But at least this time I can bring something good out of it. I can use it to bring a few people happiness.* To Be Continued...
