Serena bit her lip, refusing to cry out as yet another blow landed, this time on the side of her chin. Blood trickled down her face and over her ruby lips, already stained a darker red from broken blood vessels within. She was in a small cell, chained to the wall, with a dirty, smelly, over-muscled guard performing their 'torture,' trying to get her to tell what her power was. The captain had reported it, and the local sorcerer needed to know what sort of power it was to put on the proper restraints. "Now, Serenity, be a good girl, and just tell us what you know of your remarkable...talents." Serena had to clamp down on her will to keep from rolling her eyes and snorting at the silk clad and heavily bejeweled sorcerer noble before her, whom had given her the name 'Shazal' to refer to him as. She didn't miss the way his cold red eyes roamed her shamelessly, and knew what would come after she gave an answer. "Well? I don't hear your sweet voice giving me an answer." He drawled. "That's because I didn't give you one." Serena spat, though quietly under her breath. Although normal hearing wouldn't have picked it up, she knew his would, and he did. "What was that darling? I didn't quite catch that last." he cupped a hand around his ear, then sighed as she remained deathly silent. "You're only making this harder on yourself. We already know with simple scanning spells that each of your friends were born under select stars, the planets, and they seem to have a bit of an...aura aruond them due to that. But it is obvious they have no idea how to use them, other than miss Hino. My she has quite a temper. I'm glad they already had the binding bracelets on her; I wouldn't want to have to dodge the curses she was throwing at me if they hadn't been restrained." He chuckled lightly. "But that power seems to be from her bloodline, not from her being birthed under Mars. But you, my dear, obviously know about your power and can even more obviously use it." He walked closer to her, leaning into her face, so that his breath heated her cheeks. "And it is unlike anything I've seen before. And I want to know what it is! And you are GOING to TELL me!" With that, he suddenly lost his calm exterior and raised a hand to strike her. Then, without warning, a thin rope of dark orange light wrapped around his wrist, yanking him back. The rope dissapeared, and Serena suddenly spied two men standing the doorway. The one on the right was obviously the one that had sent the orange rope, for his hand was still raised slightly and faintly glowing a dark blue. He had waiste length silver hair, with pale, icy blue eyes with flecks of that dark orange swimming around in them. (AN: I know, I know, I'm gonna fool around with their looks just a little, though, okay?) He had a definate air of command around him, but also a sense of fierce protectiveness. Serena felt a pang of sorrow as she realized just how much this man reminded her of Mina. She hoped silently that the other girls were okay. The second man was still partially concealed by the shadows, but Serena's street-life-trained eyes spied him quickly. And he made Serena catch her breath. Tall, and dark, with piercing ocean blue eyes that watched everything in the room at once. His hair was as dark as a starless sky, pure silky blackness. Serena suddenly forced herself to snap out of her reverie, knowing the looks Mina would give her if she had known her reaction to just the sight of this man. "W...what is the meaning of this?" Shazal raged, and Serena silently relished the sight of his face turning purple. She noted that Shazal hadn't noticed the dark haired man yet, his attention still focused on the man that had attacked him. "What are you doing here?" Shazal asked dangerously. "Tell me, Sorcerer Shazal, what did this woman do that was bad enough for her to be subjected to you?" the dark haired man spoke, and Shazal finally noticed him, his red eyes widening suddenly, gasping is surprise. "Your...Your Highness!" he gasped. "We did not know that you would be visiting." He bowed low, and only Serena's sharp eyesight and keen ability to read people allowed to her glimpse the brief look of disgust that flashed through the prince's eyes. "I'm not." replied 'his highness' calmly, his voice cool and level. "I came here to select a prisoner for a wager that I made. When I read that a five girls suspected of being the Queen of the Alley Senshi and her court had been aprehended, I thought that they sounded good. I presume that this is one of them?" "Y...yes your highness. In fact, this is the one suspected of being the Queen, although she has hardly said anything other than coy comments and sharp] and disrespectful phrases. But the Captain that arrested her claims to have witnessed quite an unusal sight while imprisoning her." "What might that be?" said the first man, the one that had prvented Shazal from striking her. "He claims she immited some sort of power, and hypnotized him into releasing one of her friends." Serena's eyes suddenly became blazing blue sapphires as she heard the man's tone. She knew where this was going. "He says had it not been for his strong sense of will-power," Shazal continued, "She would have ordered him to slay them all. He also claims-" "That lying, low-down, sleazy excuse for a-" Serena's string of curses was suddenly cut off by a swift blow to her abdomen by the burly guard. She bit her lip, refusing to cry out. Her sapphire eyes closed tightly, trying to hold back winces of pain. "You will keep silent in the prescence of the Crown Prince!" Shazal roared. "Up your-" Another blow, to her left cheek, rendered her silent as her face was slammed to the side. She kept quiet. For a moment. She slowly swung her head back to gaze coldly and cooly at Shazal, then glanced swiftly at the prince, holding his gaze for one soul-shattering moment. Then she closed her eyes and leaned her head back against the wall, a small, mocking smile playing on the corners of her ruby lips, letting them know that she would be silently, but only because she chose to. Shazal was completely enraged by her actions, and planned to make her pay for it later. The prince however, was greatly amused. He had never seen someone, a girl no less, that had managed to get under Sorcerer Shazal's skin so thoroughly. And judging from the many bruises and cuts adorning her petite, but by no means weak looking, body, he could tell that he wanted something from her, and she had yet to give in to him. Asuming she had been here from the time that she had arrived, yeserday evening, and then, he knew that holding out this long was quite an accomplishment. And he was not one to let impressive deeds go unrewarded. Of course, that's what he told himself. But he had a hard time resisting the urge to smile mockingly at the shooked expression Shazal would don when the prince told him that he was releasing the girl. Then it was nearly impossible to hold back laughter when picturing his outrage and discovering how she would be treated due to the bet. The prince didn't like Shazal, and Shazal, for all he was polite, didn't like the prince. The heir to the throne of Earth thought of this as a lovely way to both win the bet, and make Shazal fume. He was certain that he would win with this girl as the test specimen. She obviously had a problem with authority; she would never subdue to the men and therefore would completely fail in attempting to be taught how to behave as a normal, high born lady should. Prince Darien smirked slightly, and his companion, Kunzite, the first in command of his elite guard, the Generals, looked at him oddly, raising an eyebrow. Darien grinned slightly, then looked back to Shazal, who was glaring hatefully at the blonde woman strapped to the stone wall. "You may leave Shazal." Darien said calmly. Shazal stared for a moment, then clenched his fists and, without a word, strode out the door. But just before he made his exit, Darien held out a hand in front of him, stopping him. "The key, please." he said in his most polite voice, but somehow managed to make his tone mocking. Serena couldn't help but listen with interest as Shazal growled almost inaudibly, then unhook the brass key from his belt and slap it into the younger man's hand. "Watch out, your highness." He warned the prince. "She's as sly as a snake and as slippery as an eel." With that he strode out of the room, anger radiating from his every movement. Serena chuckled, trying to prevent it from turning into a cough. "He's pretty right, boys." she said, a twinkle in her eyes. "Sure you want to be in the same room as me? Might soil your pretty suits or stink up your hair. Then you'll have to visit the beauty salon all over again. Wouldn't want to have to put that strain on your budget, now would we?" She narrowed her eyes to flashing blue slits. "Oh, I forgot, you don't have that problem do you? If you run low you can just up the taxes, can't you? Must be pretty useful having a never ending supply of dough from the peasant fathers and husbands just trying to keep their families alive!" she spat, glaring at the two men, but mainly the prince. Although hardly any of them had ever laid eyes on the Crown Prince, they blamed him and the royal family for the plague of homeless and hugry families that had struck the Earth. And the King and Queen had done nothing. Nothing. Serena fumed silently as the prince simply shook his head, smirking slightly, as if enjoying a privet joke. He walked forward and raised his hands, and Serena mentally braced herself for the blow. But it never came. Instead she heard a loud clatter of metal as the chains on her wrists fell away, and she fell foward, stumbling, for her feet were still chained to the wall. The prince caught her, and she glared at him. But it was either accept his help or fall flat on her face. She decided on the former, and let herself rest in his arms while he reached down to free her feet, brushing aside the tail end of her long, shimmering golden braid. Once her ankles were free, she pulled roughly out of his grasp, rubbing her raw wrists. "What do you want?" she hissed. Darien raised an eyebrow quizzicaly at his companion. "In a moment, your majesty." Darien said, a hint of mocking in his voice. Serena narrowed her eyes, but remained quiet. "First of all, you seem to already know me, so I'll just say my name; Prince Endymion, just to be sure you know it. Second, this is General Kunzite, leader and first in command of my own elite guard, the Guardian Generals, usually just called 'The Generals.' And you are...?" "Somone who wants to know what the heck is going on here." she said coldly. "It's not everyday that the Crown Prince takes interest in a prisoner." Darien smiled wryly. *She's sharp.* he thought. *This might be fun.* "I'll tell you," he said aloud, "As soon as I have your name and we're back at the palace." If she was surprised at the news of being taken to the Royal Terran Palace, she didn't show it. Serena was silent for a moment. This could be an opportunity to get herself and her friends out. If she had heard right, and she would get to go to the palace, it might be possible for her to get enough information back to her senshi for them to get out. Of course, she wasn't going to leave without a fight for her friends first. With a mental sigh, she gave in. "My name is Serenity Lunari. I am of the Alley Senshi, as are my friends, but none of us are the Queen." she said simply, her tone unreadable. Darien nodded. He had expected a limited answer like that. "Well, let's go." Darien said, taking her wrist and pulling her towards the door. "I am eager to tell you about this wager." Again, his voice was mocking, amused. Serena was trying to turn down the slow boiling inside her mind, when she suddenly remembered something. "No." she said, digging her heels into the ground and yanking her hand away. "I'm not leaving without my Sen- my fellow Senshi." She had almost said HER Senshi, which wouldn't have helped her denial of being the Senshi Queen. "What are you talking about?" Darien asked, turning to her. "You have a chance to be free? Why throw it away for some other thieves? They'd leave you." Serena's eyes flashed dangerously, glaring. "How do you know that?" she said lowly. "They're my friends. They'd never leave me, and I'll never leave them. You remember that, Your HIGHNESS!" She glared defiantly. Darien regarded her for a moment, his face becoming dark. He didn't like not] being obeyed. It wasn't that he was spoiled and used to having his way, it was that he was used to being in charge, being one of the best swordsman and warriors in the kingdom. He gazed coldly at the golden haired maiden, before coming to a descision. "Very well." he said stonily. "You may bring you friends." She looked mildly surprised, but the look was soon gone as he continued. "If you can find them and be in the main courtyard before we leave. You have pleanty of time. I will give orders for you not to be stopped." With that and swish of his cape, he strode out of the room, Kunzite at his side, leaving Serena staring after her, a mild look of surprise and admiration on her beautifully, althoug dirty, delicate features. Then she smiled slyly. He had underestimated her. She would not need that full hour. Serena closed her eyes and concentrated on the image of her friends, then walked out the door, letting her sixth sense lead her to her friends. She was not about to let this opportunity to her her friends out of this hellhole escape her. She would prove herself. To that high and might prince, and to whatever it was that continued to taunt her whenever she doubted herself. To Be Continued...
