They were first, and with that they had the most opportunity... the most chances... with endless possibilities at their disposal. Hundreds of years later - today - their only claim to fame is that they were first... Three centuries have gone by, and after all those years and all the progress in the world, is that all they can say? "we were first"
The prettier the welcome sign, the less exciting the town... :)
