I've never appreciated Valentines Day. I've always thought of it as something that only couples shared. If you didn't have a significant other, it was just a miserable day. If you think about it, the holiday is very commercialized. And it is set to sell to couples. You must go get chocolate and flowers for your loved one, must buy the card that says the right thing, and plan to spend the entire day with that person.
Well, where does that leave me? And the rest of us for that matter, all of us that don't have significant others? Generally, it is the most depressing day of the year. Some of us will try to sleep through it, others will be workaholics for the day, just not to remember, and even others will denounce it, by doing things like holding "Black Sunday". I'm not saying any of these methods are bad or wrong. I myself have been known to participate in a "Black Sunday" or two. I've just decided to take a different approach to Valentines Day this year.
This year, I've decided to appreciate my friends. Valentines day isn't just about couples, but about everyone you love. I am so thankful for all of the friends and family I have, and I feel this is the perfect day to show how much I care about them.
So to all of you out there who have stuck by me in good times and bad, thank you. Even those of you who I haven't talked to in a while, I want you to know that I am thinking of you. And remember those three little words that are used more today than any other day, I mean this every day of the year. I love you. I'm sorry I don't say it more often.
