My Theory on Two Doors

Ever since I was in elementary school, I have noticed what I would like to call my two door theory. When there are two doors--one open and one not-- people tend to walk through the open door, and not open the unopened door. There will be a long line of people waiting to use the open door while people going in the other direction use it. Instead of opening the door, they wait.... Now Why?

I have formed some theories on this phenomenon. One is that people are just too lazy. They think it will be easier for them just to walk through the other door. Even if there is a line of people comming through that door, they will still wait, thinking they will exert less energy. Now this may be true, but why do it? The energy saved could not help much in doing other things. It really doesn't require much energy to open a door. The only thing you could really do with that energy you saved would be to open another door!

Another theory I have on this is the fact that people think the door may be locked. If the door is locked, they will look and feel dumb trying to open it. Now, that may be true, but what are the chances of the door actually being locked when the door right next to it is open? I would have to say pretty slim. I think out of all the times that I have gone to open the other door when people were annoying me by walking through just one door, I have only found the door to be locked like once. I don't even remember a specific example, so it couldn't be all that embarassing to me. It isn't really even that embarassing of an event, like falling up the stairs, or drooling in class and your crush sees you. It's nothing like that. No one is going to laugh at you for trying to make life easier.

Now that I have vented, and tried to make people see that it isn't hard to open a door, maybe people will listen. Of course there will be those people who continue to refuse to open the closed door just because they know it pisses me of, but hopefully the majority of you will listen to what I have said an take into account that it's not hard, and will make your life easier (and mine more enjoyable).
