Chirs Slaten
Bio:
"Slaten's acoustic-driven songs resonate with a quiet sincerity that serves as a breath of fresh air to listeners seeking depth over marketability. Painstakingly honest, his lyrics range from introspective musings on God and self to love songs and narratives, interacting seamlessly with naturally beautiful melodies. While Slaten's music is intelligent and catchy on the surface level, he is also ever-grasping towards a larger and ultimately more crucial Truth, and invites listeners to do the same."           -Christopher Sean Moyer
Origin:
Chattanooga

How long have I been a band?
My whole life.

Members:
Working on a trio with Greg Wood on bass and Joel White on percussion.

Genre:
Indie Folk

Recordings:
Under Green Canopies (Debut album. Released in December of 2004 funded by the Chattanooga based organization Music for Missions. 2/3 of the proceeds go towards orphans of the tsunami through Gospel for Asia.)

Influences:
Paul Simon, Claude Debussy, the Innocence mission, Sufjan Stevens, Tortoise, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Claude Bolling, Vigilantes of Love, Thomas Newman, Joni Mitchell, Mark Mothersburg

Motivation:
That others may know that their insecurities and fears are not abnormal. So that others may know that it is God who is good and perfect, not us; God who provides the truest embrace, not any other human. Love without God is parasitic "like two ticks with no dog." This is the most reoccurring theme in the music I have written so far.

Goals:
I don't want to be a star or an 'idol,' or have people envy me while I am on stage. I would rather that the performance encourages and challenges the audience towards some tangible action in their own lives, though in all likelihood most people are just looking to be entertained. I can do that too.
