I found this poem in the memorial section of the obituary pages of our newspaper soon after my own mom had died. I’ve saved it (because it truly expresses my own feelings) & read it occasionally (& get tears in my eyes each time). The daughter’s last name was shown, but I chose not to put it up on the website.
Ma,
you never said “I’m leaving,” you never said “good bye”.
You
were gone before I knew it and only God knows why.
A
million times I’ve needed you. Many
times I cry.
If
love alone could have kept you here, you never would have died.
In
life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still.
In
my heart you hold a place that no one else can fill.
It
broke my heart to lose you, but you didn’t go alone,
For
part of me went with you, the day God took you home.
Our
love will last forever.
Your daughter, Sara A.
