The hailstorm was the most scariest thing I have ever experienced. I was at a friends house when the hailstorm hit. The first thing we heard was a loud whining sound like an aeroplanes engine - then strong wind - then hailstones the size of tennis balls and larger rained down - we ran outside with blankets to throw over the cars but could only get as far as the front gate before we had to turn back. CRASH !!! the hail broke all the windows on one side of the house - water was pouring through the light fittings - we rolled up the small carpets - my friend has polished floors and had rugs in the middle - moved furniture and picked up glass - the storm lasted about 15 minutes and caused total disaster ( I guesss we had a taste of the way country people feel when drought and flood hits and also how our American neighbours feel when those tornados hit) - I have never been so scared in my life and never want to be again.
About 20 minutes after the storm finished my friends husband arrived home so I left him to finish organising a tarpaulan for the roof.
I went out to my car - aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh - my faithful old Bluebird was dented from top to bottom and side to side - there were holes in the roof and the windscreen was cracked.
I hopped in the car and slowly drove home - people on the sides of the road in shock, looking at their homes and cars - what is wrong with the steering on this car??? - why is the car sliding sideways??? - suddenly it dawned on me that the road was covered in about 4 to 6 inches of hail - I was sliding on ice - we are not used to this sort of thing in Australia - it was a very slow trip home.
PLEASE LET MY HOUSE BE ALL RIGHT.
I turned into my street - all my neighbours were outside - I ran to my block of units and into the foyer - water was running down the stairs like a waterfall - inside my unit was devistation - black water was running down the walls - the door frames looked like waterfalls and water was running through the light fittings - I quickly switched off the power - moved the electricals - and covered everthing with my camping tarpaulans - It took several days to get a tarpaulan on the roof and several weeks to get the roof tarped properly so it did not leak.
My cat was absolutely terrified - every time she hears a loud noise she looks at the ceilin |
