| Argatroban | ||||||||||||||||||
| Argatroban is an anticoagulant that directly interferes with the clotting cascades required to create a blood clot by suppressing the activity of Thrombin. (As further explained on the Coagulation page, thrombin is essential to the formation of blood clots.) |
||||||||||||||||||
| Argatroban is partially made up of two types of asymetric carbon. The first of these types has been labelled stereoisomer Type 1 and has an unspecified R configuration. The second type has an S configuration and is called stereoisomer Type 2. Argatroban contains both of these two types mixed together in the ratio 65:35 (R:S). |
