Talus
Talus is a fur (an anthromorph that's half human, half animal if you're not familiar). His animalia is that of a smilodon, aka sabre tooth tiger. His species is rather uncommon and were once thought extinct. He stands on two legs like a human and has a human anatomy; for the most part. Instead of human hands, he has the white-furred paws of a sabre tooth. His build is quite muscular, far sturdier than that of a cheetah or even a normal tiger. The fur covering his body is light orange or light brown although white where it covers his belly and chest. Like any respectable sabre toothed feline, he has a pair of seven-inch sabres protruding from his upper jaw. They serve as formidibal weapons when he has to endure unarmed combat, and his claws aren't anything to shrug off either. His preferred clothing is a pair of rugged adventurer's shorts, and he usually wears a leather vest without an undershirt - he is part animal after all. He carries darts in the vest that he can use along with his blowgun; tranquilizers to help defeat an aggressive enemy. He also wears leather gauntlets for a little extra protection. Around his neck is a simple pendant with an animal's tooth on the end, looking somewhat tribal while around his waist hangs a belt that's too big to be of use and is mostly for decoration. He is strong, both physically and in heart. This fur sticks up for his friends and what he believes in. The huge battle axe he typically weilds in battle almost never fails to keep enemies at bay. His leadership abilities are great and he is known by most as a natural-born-leader. Though perhaps not looking the friendliest, he is undeniably a good person who you would more than likely want to have on your side rather than against you.
Lycanthropy
The reason for Talus being "not quite human" is that he is a lycanthrope. Most people of magic draw their power from the elements. Lycanthropes use lycanthropy, and draw power from animals instead. Often, this leads to humans that are half animal, or have animal features, like Talus. Werewolves are lycanthropes (the original ones at least) who pass lycanthropy on through bites. Werewolves are the only kind of lycanthrope who does that. Sometimes lycanthropes only turn into animals during a certain time, like a full moon, while others like Talus have become half animal as a whole.

Click to enlargeThis is just a sketch made by master fur artist extraordinaire, Shawn Kelfonne. This is the full color version, a rather cartoony and fun way of expressing Talus. I'm grateful for this picture.
This is a sketch of Talus by Meri Engstrom, a friend of mine in reality. She doesn't do color, but I feel that this drawing most accurately portrays Talus than any I have seen before. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. She's drawn all my characters, and I'm thinking about coloring them too.Click to enlarge
Click to enlargeShawn made another pic of Talus fending off some 'shrooms. He's been testing out a new drawing style, and I think the quality has improved signifigantly from his last drawing. Bravo! It even has a touch of anime!
