General:
E25 is one of the most interesting levels strategy-wise. The WR strat
has
undergone many
changes, but Im pretty sure we have arrived at the final version now.
The
whole thing started
when people just tried to do the normal path as fast as possible. I had
a
nice fight with Sucram
for this record, and I was damn good at doing this level fast. If I
remember
correctly, the record
was somewhere between 4000 and 4100. Then some time later I looked at
the
rankings and
saw Packattack had a score of 4600ish. I assumed it was a typo, so I
thought
Id still have the
record. As the score was still up there some time later I thought about
what
he could have done,
and I figured it out pretty fast. The trick was to skip some of the
"hills"
to the side, thereby
finishing much faster. I got 4722, then 4786. There were several
variations
of the strat, which
included picking up 3, 4 or 5 bananas. Packattack took on the challenge
and
came up with a nice
4900+ strategy which was fairly easy to pull off too. The big
difference to
all previous strats was
that you would skip the very fist banana. The latest development has
you
picking up 6 of the 7
bananas, skipping only the first one. To do it fast, you must hop from
top
to top - it sounds
harder than it is. Funnily, the current 5000+ strat is way easier than
all
the 4600-4900 strats.
I want a consistent finish!
Few levels on Expert are as easy as E25. You should never ever lose a
life
here. Hold forward,
pick up the banana, fall down, up again. As you pick up the banana,
pull
back a bit to reduce
speed, then hold forward again. Repeat this for all hills and youll
have no
problems.
I want a good score!
Well then, 5000 is what you want, and you will get it easily. Note: You
can
mirror all movements, I
prefer to go left, others will want to go right. Boost left until close
to
the edge, straighten out
and immediately fall off to the left. You will not pick up the first
banana.
You should land in the
"valley", roll up, pick up the banana. Hold forward. You now want to
land
directly on the next
banana. Possibly youll land there now by just holding forward,
otherwise
simply adjust your
speed. From here on you need to repeat, i.e. land on every hill to pick
up
the banana. You cant
simply hold forward all the time, you need to adjust (reduce) your
speed. It
looks quite funny,
you bounce from banana to banana, picking up all but the first. After
the
last banana, hold
forward.
I want the record!
Ok, you have over 5000 now, so whats different for the record? First,
you
need to fall off as
early as possible. Falling accelerates, the sooner you accelerate, the
better. When you fall off
very early and hold forward, you will notice that you are actually not
fast
enough to make it to
the banana. Nevermind, thats the way to go. You should just barely
make it
to the banana, i.e.
land on the near part of the top without having reduced your speed. Now
for
the next "hills", the
key is to adjust as little as possible. When you play like that you
have the
feeling you dont do
anything, even though this is not quite true. Now the final part. After
picking up the 5th banana,
about halfway to the 6th and last banana, hold forward. You want to hit
the
last top as far to
the back as possible. Often you will have a sweet run but press forward
too
early and pick up
the banana without landing on the top. You should never finish with
anything
worse than 22.30
left, and if you can finish better than with 22.40 remaining you have
good
chances of getting the
WR if you are persistent enough.
