Kunzite

King of the Near East
I'd like to start off by saying I prefer the name "Malachite" to Kunzite, but I haven't been using it thus far because A) I don't want people to think I'm ignorant and B) I don't want to go around using a combo of the dub and original names.  However, if you've read any of my fanfic with the shitennou, then you know that I *always* use "Malachite."

That said, I'll next tell you that Malachite is my very favorite of the shitennou.  Yum!  Woops.. that just slipped out.  Ok, so, hopefully we all acknowledge Mal's sexiness... let's move on.  Oh... real quick before we do... I think it's interesting that he's so much prettier in the manga.  Pretty, yes... sexy?  Not really.  I prefer the anime Mal!!
Malachite (huh?  oh... ok... sorry) I mean Kunzite first makes his appearance alongside his lover, Zoisite.  Poor Zoi is all upset about something or nother, and that big teddy bear (he hides it well, doesn't he?) is trying to comfort him.  Aren't they just the cutest?!

Kunzy, despite his normally gruff exterior, is a softy when it comes to Zoi.  He conjures roses for him, and at the end, turns him into a puff of petals to fulfill his dying wish to "die pretty."  I think it's a sign of this inner softness trying to get out that he wears his uniform undone like that.  :)
But, like I said, he keeps this soft side well hidden.  As an enemy, Kunzite is ruthless.  He fights the senshi after Zoisite's death, but he is constantly stymied by Endymion's (Mamoru/Darien) wavering loyalty.  Kunzy hates ol' Cape Boy, but Beryl forces them to work together.  Joy.

Kunzite's fatal mistake is an incredibly stupid one, if you ask me.  In a battle with the senshi, he teleports them to "somewhere in time."  What a coincidence that they end up on the Moon!!  Now why couldn't have been just a teeny bit specific?! 

When they return, they know everything about their past and Kunzite's little boomerang-thingies bounce back at him and he dies all icky and stuff (that was probably the worst sentence I've written since third grade).  His last words are, "Zoisite... I'm coming to join you!"

In the manga, Kunzite is killed by the senshi as he attempts to find the ginzuishou... or something.  I guess I wasn't paying attention.  I  probably shouldn't be writing these profiles while doped up on NyQuil.  :)
So... what do I like about Kunzite?  You mean besides his yumminess??  Well, he's mean, of course, but (as with Zoisite and Nephrite) you do see the capacity for kindness in him.  He clearly loves Zoisite dearly, and he's broken hearted when Beryl deep fries Zoi.  Poor Kunzy.  :(

In the Silver Millennium he was the lover of Sailor Venus, who has recently become one of my favorite senshi.  Does that have something to do with my love for Kunzy?  Not really... I just thought I would throw it out there...

What I don't get about Kunzite is how he could be the highest of the shitennou, yet makes such a stupid mistake as to send the senshi to the absolute WORST place possible!!  What a dumb, dumb, dumb thing to do.  Oh well... I am nothing if not forgiving.  Too bad Beryl isn't more like me.  :)
