For a long time I really cared nothing about Jadeite. I hadn't really seen any of his episodes (strange, but it took me ages to see the first few eps of BSSM), and I never thought he was as kawaii as the others. Rei is my favorite senshi, so I was a little disappointed that Naoko would stick her with ol' Jeddy here. Well, while I haven't *fully* changed my mind, I have come around some. |

Jed (yeah, it's DiCish, but it's less prissy than "Jade") is by far the least characterized of the shitennou, but you gotta feel sorry for the guy. First of all, he is clearly rather stupid in some regards. He never actually gets the fact that he should give the energy to Beryl in *stages*, not all at once in one big whammy. If he could just do that, then Sailor Moon wouldn't get him into nearly so much trouble!
Now we can't fault a guy for being dumb... can we? No, no, we won't. I like Jadeite, really I do... I just worry about the boy sometimes. I think he's a good match for Rei, though, because he's rather... what's the word? Oh, pissy! Yes, he does that growly thing when he gets mad, and I think he and Rei would have some very interesting fights. Maybe they'd be a good balance for one another, and neither would die of stress-induced heart attacks too terribly young. |

Moving on to the factual bits... Jadeite is the first of the Dark Kingdom Shitennou to pop up in BSSM, and he doesn't last very long. He keeps failing at his silly little group energy collecting schemes (couples cruise, radio station contest, health club, etc.), and that doesn't sit too well with the ever-benevolent (can you sense my sarcasm?) Beryl. When he fails at his last-ditch effort to kill the senshi at the airport, she freezes him in a block of ice. Poor Jeddy. :(
In the manga, Jed is turned into a crispy critter by a well-aimed fire attack from none other than Sailor Mars herself. I thought it was pretty cool, though kinda sad... heaps sadder than the ice thing. |

Since all I seem to have done is blasted the poor boy, I guess now I'll tell you (since you're so *vastly* interested in my opinion) what I *like* about him. First of all, his hair. I'm not all that into blonds, but Jed pulls it off with style. Nephrite's kinda bugs me ('cept the color), and I think Jadeite has some of the best hair in the Dark Kingdom. He could teach Beryl a thing or two.
Next, his voice. WHAT WAS WITH THE DUB VOICES?! I coulda killed Nephrite and Zoisite several times, and Kunzite isn't much better. Jadeite had, BY FAR, the best dub voice.
Basically the little manga picture you see to the left is what made me start liking Jadeite a lot more. He is not animated as well as some of the others, but you can clearly see how pretty he is in this picture. Not that that's the only reason to like someone... |
