| ST. MARY'S ACADEMY TEAM RULES AND POLICIES In General 1. Athletes must abide by all OSAA, Mt. Hood League, and St. Mary's Academy rules and regulations. 2. Athletes must conduct themselves in an appropriate sportsmanlike manner at all times. 3. Athletes are required to be up to date on team information by attending practices, meetings, checking the website, and keeping in close contact with the head coach. 4. Athletes who are more than 10 minutes late to school or who are absent from a class and are not excused by the school will not be allowed to practice or compete that day. 5. Athletes who use drugs, alcohol or tobacco during the swim season and/or at swim team events will be suspended from the team. 6. Athletes who receive an F or a GPA lower than 2.0 during a grading period will be suspended from the team. Practices 1. Athletes are expected to attend all practices. Athletes must arrive for practice on time and prepared to swim. Excessive tardiness or absence will not be tolerated. Athletes who miss more than two (2) practices during a week must meet with the head coach before being allowed to return to practice. 2. The coach will consider practice attendance very heavily when completing meet entries. 3. Athletes must complete practice in an appropriate manner. While there is a social element to practices, practice time is not social time. 4. Athletes must check in at practices. Meets 1. Athletes must wear their team uniform (cap, goggles, and suit) at all meets. 2. Athletes are responsible for warming up at meets. 3. Athletes are expected to compete in all dual meets and the District meet. 4. Athletes who are unable to participate in an upcoming dual meet are responsible for notifying the coach no later than two (2) school days prior to the meet. Failure to do so may result in the suspension of the athlete from the next competition. 5. Athletes who are absent or injured the day of a meet and cannot compete must contact the head coach by 10 am. 6. Athletes must check in and out of meets. 7. The coaches' decision regarding individual meet entries and relay entries is final. Sportsmanship and Team Spirit 1. Athletes must participate in team cheers. 2. Athletes must cheer for teammates who are racing. 3. Athletes must wear the team uniform at all competitions. 4. Athletes must be graceful losers by not throwing equipment or swearing, and by congratulating the winner, especially if it was a close race. 5. Athletes must be grateful winners by celebrating tactfully, staying in the pool until all the competitors complete the race, and shaking hands with the competitors, especially if it was a close race. |
