ST. MARY'S ACADEMY SWIM TEAM VARSITY LETTER REQUIREMENTS
In order to earn a varsity letter for swimming, an athlete must complete all the following.

Practice Attendance:

Athletes may not miss more than ten (10) practices during the swimming season. The swimming season is defined as beginning the first day of the winter season, November 7th, 2005 (not the day the athlete completes required paperwork) and ending on the last day of the athlete's final championship meet. 

*
Athletes are expected to participate at Winter Break practices. The coach may choose to provide prewritten practices to athletes traveling during the break.  Athletes who notify the head coach that they completed the practices will not be counted as absent from Christmas Break practices.

* Athletes can earn 1/2 credit towards a missed practice for each dive practice they attend.

* Athletes are expected to arrive on time and prepared to swim for the entire duration of practice.  Athletes who arrive after warm-up is complete will only receive � credit of a normal practice unless they bring a note from a teacher or parent.  Athletes who leave before cool down is complete will only receive 1/2 the credit of a normal practice unless they bring a note from a parent.

Practice Attendance for year round competitive swim team members:

Athletes who belong to a year round competitive swim team and wish to complete their practice requirements with their club may do so under the following conditions:

* Athletes must participate in forty (40) practices during the swimming season.  The swimming season is defined as beginning the first day of the winter season, November 7th, 2005 and ending on the last day of the athlete's final championship meet.

*Athletes must attend at least ten (10) St. Mary's practices during the season.  (Every St. Mary's dual meet in which the athlete competes and every dive practice in which the athlete participates counts as one practice.)

*Athletes are responsible for documenting practice attendance by emailing the coach with weekly club practice attendance.

Meets

*Athletes may miss one (1) regular season dual meet, but are expected to compete in all dual meets.

*Athletes must compete in at least 10 of their events as a Varsity swimmer.

* Athletes must compete in the district meet.

Miscellaneous

* A swimmer who qualifies and swims at the state meet may letter even if she has not acheived other lettering requirements.  The athlete must demonstrate good sportsmanship and a positive attitude.

* A senior may earn a letter if they have participated on the swim team for three or more years.  The athlete must not have missed more than ten (10) practices during the season, and must have competed in all but one (1) dual meet and the district meet.  The athlete must have a positive attitude and display proper sportsmanship.  The athlete must assist with senior projects such as planning team events or designing the team shirt.

* The head coach may deny a letter to someone who has demonstrated behavior unbecoming of a varsity athlete.
