Celebrating Columbus Day? Think again!
We will express our opposition to the initiator of 509 years of genocide, not with mourning, but with resistance. We will voice our opposition to Columbus' heirs and his ongoing legacy. We see this legacy rear its ugly head in such things as "our" government's militarization of the US-Mexican border, military actions abroad, and the maintanance of domestic internal colonies. Just as we reject the idea of Columbus as anything less than a villian, we choose to say NO to his legacy. We choose to resist.
Together we will smash Columbus Day!
There will be four days of entertainment and education consisting of revolutionary music (hip-hop, punk, drum n' bass, and traditional); youth poetry; workshops / speakers on border and indigenous
issues; and action. This is a drug & alcohol free, youth, people of color, cross-border, and anti-authoritarian oriented event.

*Columbus Day*
Come join us as we give thanks to Achai Ta'aa for the continued safety and survival of our beautiful Yoeme people, culture and traditions in Mexico and the US. We also gather on this day to remember all the brave Yoeme men and women who sacrificed their lives in the wars since the Spanish invasion of our homelands, Jiakim, in 1533. It has been 509 years since Columbus. The Wiko Yau Ura will welcome October 12th as our ancestors did, with prayers and the promise to continue fighting for our lands, culture and people. Please join us as we continue the struggle against alcoholism, drug abuse, diabetes, theft of land and water, and all forms of genocide that still threaten our people today.
Hundreds of NLG lawyers, anti-colonialists and human rights activists will converge at the US-Mexico border to demand the protection of human and civil rights. In holding its rally this day, the marchers will recognize Columbus' ongoing legacy of oppression. The group hopes to show how this legacy continues here in the form of a highly militarized border region, policies that kill hundreds of migrants annualy, and systematic abuses of human rights. This action coincides with the National Lawyers Guild's 2001 Convention in Tucson, which focuses on border issues.
The cross border solidarity action will meet in Nogales, AZ and cross the border to unite with activists in Mexico for a rally at the plaza. Youth activists from Nogales, Sonora will perform street theatre about Columbus Day and anti-colonialists will have their say.
