Evolution/Religion Rant
Back To Homepage
Recently, as I was watching the Science Channel, there was a show on evolution. And me having my thirst for knowledge that comes from being a genius, decided to watch it. Most of the show was what I expected. Nothing that I didn't really know. Then with about ten minutes left in the program...they brought up the bible(notice I don't capitalize it because I do not respect it). Yes, for all you who didn't know I am an atheist. Once again for those of dull witt, atheist means that I have no religion. I think that religion is a load of bull, but I'll get to that later, now back to the story. I thought they could have left it out, but they had to bring it up. They talked about how some christian politician somewhere in the South was running with one of their major platforms for election was to ban the teaching of evolution in the school district. The first time I heard of something like this happening it blew me away. I didn't understand how someone could not believe in evolution when the proof was so eloquent. Nature only creates what is 'just good enough' to get the job done. Which is more plausible: Some all powerful being created every species as we know them today, then showed no proof of its existence and even tried to cover up its existence by trying to make it look like it happened natually, Or small mutations over many generations can lead to benefits for the individual thus giving them more opportunities to reproduce and have more children with that same benefit. To me its obvious. Now finaly back to the religion spiel I was about to go into. Only 5% of people on Earth do not believe in some higher being, be it God or Allah or Yaweh or Vishnu or whatever. That to me says that only 1 in every 20 people is in there right mind. I see religion as a virus created by man in his infancy to make themselves seem all important in the vastness of the universe. We looked up to those stars and felt lonely, so we created the story that we were the most important beings in the cosmos because we were created in the image of some all powerful being. We must shake this crutch if we are ever to become better than we are. As a speices we must cleanse this cancer, cast it away so we can truly be the most important beings. We must go to the stars and find others, be they stronger or weaker, and show them that we are truly enlightened. The only true thing in the universe is science, and we should treat that with reverance and not try to squash it because it goes against something written 1500 years ago. And yes it was written 1500 years ago because it was not written at the time of Jesus. And even if there was a real person named Jesus, that does not mean that he was the son of any god.
