"BECAUSE WE CAN" cont.....
Soon it was seven in the morning and time to head out on the last leg of our walk,
But never once did you hear anyone balk.
Then we hit the
Port-a-Potty and did some stretches for our body,
I thought to myself,'Hey I don't feel to shoddy'!

The morning air was cool as we headed out of the camp day.
Then in the crowd we heard someone say,
'It's supposed to reach a high of ninety and that's no shocker,
So hope you all brought your tubes of sun blocker!'

As we walked I was amazed at truly how good I DID feel,
But long before lunch, the Team shirt I did peel!
The sun rose high in the sky, making it very warm,
So as we walked sun blocker I applied on each arm.

The hours and kilometers passed quickly by,
Soon we were at lunch and finally sitting, resting with a sigh.
Finally removing my shoes and socks,
I found one toe had blistered to my shock!

With tummies full, legs rested and blistered toes bandaged and on the mend,
We stretched, filled our water bottles and headed up the hill and around the bend!
Ten more kilometers and soon we would be fine,
Together my daughter and I would cross that sixty-kilometer finish line.

At Ontario Place my knee finally gave in,
And someone in the crowd said 'Honey take the sweep van, for it isn't a sin.'
But I wanted to do this for my grandma, so my daughter's arm I took,
Even though the pain from each step, my body it shook.

As we crossed the street a familiar face I saw standing there,
Nancy Paling came running and threw her arms around my neck, 'Saying yeah for Landis and Shawna you made it here!'
Then we followed Nancy and the rest of her team,
And when we crossed that finish line our faces did beam!

I cannot really express how overwhelmed I felt that day,
As Shawna and I crossed that finish line and we DID NOT sway,
And to all the fabulous folks behind the scene
You all helped me/us fulfill a PROMISE and a DREAM.

I knew I could do this and that I was strong
With my daughter beside me, I could not go wrong,
I walked that weekend with my biggest fan,
Sixty kilometers for The Weekend to End Breast Cancer and I even got a tan.

But" WHY" did WE WALK
And never once balk?
That's easy,
You see!

(I walked 60km in one weekend in loving memory of my Grandmother Marcus who lost her life to breast cancer just before my daughter Shawna was born in 1979! I will forever miss you Grams.)
