| hey there people =p first of all, miss you all! things got crazy here because of the accident, but everything seems to be okay already. mother was a bit shaken by the accident, says she still goes rigid when she sees a car going her way when in the car. hay naku. I was saying before i left that the preparations for the trip were going so smoothly that this trip was meant to happen. back then 'tho i was scared that the 'hitches' would happen -during- the trip. oh yeah, was i right =p my cousin cynthia was saying that bad luck daw comes in threes. the abenes family had three vehicular accidents so far. i hope this last one was the third. the first one was u.gerry last June (based in san francisco), then it was u.tem and a.lulu last week. anyway, we went to the zoo yesterday. cynthia was my personal tour guide, and it was special for me because the zoo means so much to her. here is the story: cynthia, a lawyer, married bryan (also a lawyer, 20 yrs her senior). on her birthday in 1998, he told her to wear something nice for her birthday dinner. fast forward to the night of the dinner: he drove her to the back entrance of the calgary zoo (closed to the public by the time they got there) where an attendant welcomed them. They were led to the butterfly garden. the path was candle-lit all the way to a corner with the falls. there was a small table set for two and a waiter to attend to them. Yup, he proposed to her there. (she didn't accept the proposal then -- she proposed to him somewhere else =p ). they got married in 1999, honeymooned in paris, africa and some other exotic countries. but bryan died in his sleep almost two years ago, that is the tragedy. he was president of the board of the calgary zoo and cynthia has a lot of memories of him there. the zoo held special funeral services for him, and cynthia hadn't gone there since, until yesterday. she said that bryan was a super romantic guy (i guess age makes a lot difference). she is just starting to truly recover from losing him. so....... at the zoo, i saw wolves! red panda bears! black bears and grizzly bears! siberian tigers (i dream of holding a cub in my arms and playing with it, kahit once in my life lang please! I will have to look for a petting zoo somewhere else.) i saw so much more but these are the special ones for me. the zoo actually is world class. cynthia was saying that the people who made disneyland were hired to do the 'sets' for the animals, and it was so nice to watch the animals in 'natural' setting. anyway, mother and i will fly to las vegas on 1aug. we can't handle a long trip on the bus i guess. will be there til the 4th. well, i didn't plan to make this long. sana maka-kuwento din kayo =p i check the inquirer website twice a day, can you believe?! 24jul02, 1428:30 +0800 (CST), calgary |
