My second highest score was Linguistic, which was predictable. I love to read, and I like analyzing in English class what was going on in the author's mind when he/she wrote a piece of literatue. Books, magazines, plays, newspapers, or poems, I never mind assignments that give me a reason to find the time to read more. For me, books are like snapshots of times, places, or people, and they enable the reader to see issues or ideas from an entirely different experience. For instance, there might be hundreds of different books by people affected by the Civil War, and they all have the same basic subject, time, and place- but each is completely unique. Another part of this learning style is my ability at learning languages. I take Spanish, and I want to be fluent in it one day. This survey also gave me pretty high results in the Natural Learner section. Although I enjoy being outside (when the temperature is above 0), the thought of being a "Natural Learner" never really ocurred to me. I like to bike, and I go canoeing or hiking in the summer, but before this survey, I didn't think that enjoying a trip to the beach or walking my dog in the woods was a characteristic of a particular learning style. I was not surprised at my Musical and Kinesthetic results, however. I have played a stringed instrument since I was in the third grade (I switched from the viola to cello four years ago) and I dance after school at the Brattleboro School of Dance. I am also in the Career Center dance program this year. Unsurprisingly, my Visual and Intrapersonal learning styles were the lowest. Although I enjoy a good movie as much as anyone else, (for instance, I loved Finding Nemo, and have seen it four times) I have trouble learning from only posters, overhead projectors, etc. Nor do I enjoy learning a subject alone. However, there are times when I need to be on my own to get anything done. For instance, I have never been able to write a paper efficiently when three of my friends are peering over my shoulder, suggesting synonyms for words and pointing out my various zpeling erours. |

If I am mainly an Interpersonal-Linguistic-Existential learner, what are the best ways I can learn Chemistry? Well, so far this class is going perfectly fine for me. I like working with lab partners or lab groups, and having discussions as a whole class about everyone's results when we are done. It is also helpful for me to write important things down, since I am a Linguistic learner. I try to take notes on the procedure of a lab before we start, so that I don't forget key steps in the lab, and end up setting a chemical/desk/lab partner on fire. The Existential part of my learning type is a bit trickier to figure out how to incorporate it into Chemistry, though. The only thing I can think of for this is to try and include why the different aspects of Chemistry are important, and how they affect us. Since I am weakest in Visual Learning, it would be hard fo me to learn Chemistry if all we did for the entire block was stare at a picture of the Periodic Table. However, we have not done this yet, so I can' t say that I am worried. I don't mind the occasional overhead, or chalkboard presentation. Intrapersonal Learning is my other weak point, but as long as we don't suddenly start dong all our labs solo, I'll be fine.

As you can see from my survey results, I am pretty spread out in my learning styles. Although this means that I am not completely horrible at any one type of learning style, it does make it difficult for me to sum myself up with a single word. To settle this quandary, I came up with sixteen. Sooo, to anwer the question, I am a... Writer, chocolate-lover, people-person, dancer, pragmatist, bookworm, aspiring cellist, tree-hugger, Pirates of the Carribean fan, activist, optimist, traveler, joker, procrastinator, student, and lastly, I am a champion Candyland player! |
