| My Name : Just a family name : Means 'will become.' : Means 'gemstone.' In other words, my name means that I will achieve something great in my life, comparable to a perfect gemstone. As I look upon my life, though, I highly doubt whether I am living up to my name, bestowed upon me by my grandfather. During my years at KMLA, I have yet to fail to disappoint my parents. Although I have improved quite a bit since I first came to this school, I still find it difficult to live up to my duties of being a student. I cannot concentrate on my studies, and my thoughts wander to the four corners of the world. And I sometimes do worry about my grades, and how it will affect my career from here on out. |

| However, from a positive point of view, my life has taken a turn for the better since I came to KMLA. Although it is true that I find it hard to keep up with my gifted classmates, living here has awakened me to new knowledge, and fostered lifelong friendships. As one of my friends who graduated early told me, "your GPA and your SAT scores aren't everything." By coming to this school, I took part in activities that I would never have been able to do anywhere else. To me, at least, there are tearful episodes that occurred during these activities. For example, I was the keyboardist of the rock band PentaTonic. There is a dramatic story about its rising "from zero to hero" among three other rock bands. Or for another instance, I was the founding member and the first conductor of the KMLA Orchestra. At first, no one said that such a large body organized and run by students would last, and many of the initial members dropped just quit. I can still remember how I fought to keep it alive, and worked hard to improve the quality of its music. Now it boasts 45 members, an amazing number for a student-based orchestra, and it looks as if it will be an indispensable part of KMLA. Now that I look over things again, maybe I really did achieve something great during my stay at this school. Any student at this school can study, get good grades, and score high on standardized tests. But in my opinion, not many students would be able to pioneer and create parts of KMLA that could become a legacy and last for a hundred, maybe a thousand years. Perhaps this is just another step in my quest to "achieve something great." Only time will tell what lies ahead of the road. |
