SmithCraft Tent <ST>(#15345Jem$)

You stand inside this airy tent. There are benches and tables showing the various wares that the Smiths have today. One table on the left has an arrangement of knives, ranging from plain hunting, to jewel-pommeled, non-functional knives, and even some eating knives. On the right, at the glasscrafters table, are an array of goblets, chalices and glass dragons which sit below a dangling array's of suncatchers that scatter the light around in a pleasing manner. A few machines sit in the center, mostly attracting a few confused looks from the majority of people, they would be VERY impressive if anyone other than the smiths knew what they were. In the far back hang some wind-chimes in both glass and metal, twisting and tinkling softly in the breeeze.

Standing next to each table is a helpful young apprentice, ready to find things for you and take your marks.

NOTE: +view-able things are available. Have a look, you'll like it.

Falan comes into the SmithCraft Tent <ST>

Falan has arrived.

Falan smiles and nods to the Craftmaster.

Annik is busily dusting off some of the items on the tables. She looks up and smiles as she hears someone enter. "Good afternoon."

Falan seems to be dallying a bit longer over the Ging blossom suncatcher than the other items.

Falan looks up at Annik. "This is beautiful work for an apprentice."

Annik looks over and nods. "Yes, she is one of the best. She's very close to journeyrank, but there's one or two classes that she has yet to complete."

Falan says "What are you asking for one of these?"

Annik smiles and replies, "Two and half marks."

Falan quirks a brow. "For an apprentice-made item?" She counters your price with a much lower figure...just inside reasonable, but definitely negotiable.

Annik continues to smile. "You said yourself that it is good for apprentice-made. For junior apprentice items, I'd say your offer would be fine, but this is senior work. How about two and a quarter?"

Falan grins and strokes her chin absently - obviously enjoying this process. "Still, apprentice-made is apprentice-made...I really couldn't go any higher than, say...two marks even?"

Annik considers this for a moment and finally nods. "Okay, two marks, then. Would you like me to wrap it up for you?"

Falan smiles and shakes her head as she takes the marks from her purse. "That's quite alright. My wagon is just outside in the meadow." She hands you the marks before picking up her purchase.

Annik smiles and takes the marks. "It was a pleasure doing business with you. If there's anything else that catches your eye, do let me know."

Falan nods, looking very happy at the transaction. "I will...and do feel free to stop by my wagon before the end of the festival, Master Annik." She apparently remembers your name from your brief meeting yesterday.

Annik nods eagerly. "Yes, I plan to when my shift is over in here. Falan, isn't it? Sebring Dalegard?"

Falan smiles, obviously pleased you remember her. "Yes. I'll look forward to your visit, then."

Falan turns to leave the tent.

Falan leaves the SmithCraft Tent <ST>

Falan has left.

You decide you've had enough of the Smith Tent and leave.

Main Meadow(#700RJ)

The expansive meadow ends here in a cluster of buildings. The structures are dominated by a huge grey slate edifice to the south, where a stream of crafters and almost constant sounds of craftwork indicate it as the main work hall for the Smiths. Otherwise, the main meadow is relatively bare - simple footpaths breaking up the broad, flat area, and a few clusters of trees at the fringes. The air blooms with the smells of fresh vegetation and pure sunshine. Dotted along the ground, small flowers peek out through the greenery, vivid purples, yellows, and whites. Blue sky is broken only by the occasional tree, but otherwise, not a cloud looms on the horizon. Whispy puffs of breeze stir the calm occasionally, but very little disrupts the lazy summer day.

Glancing around, you note several paths through the meadow leading to various buildings. The Dining Hall, partially connected to the Business Hall, is to the east, with the Apprentice Hall conveniently close in the northeast. The smaller Journeyman's Hall is directly to the north, the Resident's Hall is to the northwest, and the Chemistry Building is to the northeast.

The Healer Hall is running a first aid course as part of the Smith Craft Festival, starting in about ten minutes. Please come! +go smi-meadow, then enter the Healer Tent :)"

Ramya has arrived.

Ramya pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Ramya has left.

Healer Hall Gather Tent(#12753Jes$)

Strange smells waft on the air inside this purple and white tent. Although the cloth is thick enough to block out most of the sunlight, the tent is pleasantly bright and well-aired. The interior of the tent seems to be partitioned with curtains of purple and white, creating a quiet place with cots on which anyone injured or ill at the gather might rest and seek more private treatment. Near the entrance of the tent is a small reception area, but the main part contains tables. On these, herbs have been carefully sorted into labeled jars for inspection and purchase, as well as other items offered by Healer Hall.

You can 'ring' the small bell in the reception area for the Healer on duty, or '+view' the items for sale.

You push aside a bit of cloth and enter the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Ramya walks in and stops at the tent opening. She looks around for a moment then walks over to where some chairs are and takes a seat.

Annik steps in and smiles at the Healers. "Going to start soon, I hear?"

Vytol looks up from the hides and notices some people starting to filter in. He then waves an apprentice over asking him to get him a mug of juice before they start. He eyes those who have already arrived scanning the faces for an familiar ones.

Ayanne turns from the apprentices setting up chairs, and encourages, "Come on in, come on in," to the arriving people, as she makes her way to Vytol. "Afternoon, Craftmaster, and yes, in just a few moments. In the meantime, folks can look over our wares, they'll learn how to use some of them today, I'd wager?" The question is directed towards Vytol, implying that it's up to him.

In her looking around, Ramya sees Vytol at an end of the tent. A smile comes to her lips and she nods towards the Craftmaster. She looks unsure if she should greet him with all the bustling about, so she stays seated with her hands folded on her lap.

Vytol walks over to the two Craftmasters and nods, "Yes, yes they will. There are a couple of the herbs and things I will be showing how to use this afternoon in fact." He smiles at Annik, "Healer duties to the Smithcraft. Thank you for this opportunity. Is there anything special you would like to cover Ma'am or just the basics?"

Javinia pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Javinia has arrived.

Bauhaus pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Bauhaus has arrived.

M'teh pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

M'teh has arrived.

Dysan pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Dysan has arrived.

Dysan wanders in, finding a spot to sit down.

Annik grins at Vytol and raises her eyebrows. "You're asking me? Whatever you think is pertinent is fine." She smiles and nods to people as they arrive.

Apprentices wearing Healer knots indicate to those arriving the various chairs and cusions available for people to use, while another couple stand ready by the pushed-aside tables bearing assorted jars, pots, and bags. "I'd say a general introduction to first aid, Vytol," Ayanne suggests, nodding greetings to the arrivals. "Geared perhaps towards our hosts and the accidents they're likely to encounter, but if I read knots correctly, there are many others here too."

M'teh walks in, looking a little flushed. He casts a glance around the room, then notes to Bauhaus and Javinia, "The ride was okay? Sorry I didn't give you much warning of /between/."

After taking his seat upon a cushion, he turns back around at M'teh. "No, it's quite alright, sir," Bauhaus says to the rider. "Between was just a shock for me because it was only my second time there."

Vytol waits for the stragglers to wander in before starting, nodding to Ayanne, "Of course, that is what I have prepared. I think we can accommodate something for everyone though." he smiles then nods again. "I will start at your command Craftmaster."

R'var pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

R'var has arrived.

Bauhaus says "R'var!" Bauhaus smiles as the familiar bluerider arrived. "So you decided to come as well?"

Javinia steps into the tent with a small grouping, pausing at the entrance to let her eyes adjust. She turns to look up at M'teh, a dimpled grin for the rider. "Oh, no. You're very kind to bring us. At least you didn't ask me not to 'sick up' beforehand." Turning back to the room, she offers a healer apprentice a swift smile and moves to take one of the cushions indicated.

Ramya turns around to watch people come in then turns back to where the Healers are.

M'teh finds a spot to sit down, briefly replying, "Ah, right," to Bauhaus, and "Um, why would I?" to Javinia. He then turns his attention to Vytol, but then quickly turns around at the mention of R'var. "Ah, hello R'var!" he calls out, then flinches a little at being too loud.

Ayanne shrugs, and looks to Annik. "I'd say we're set to go," and she gestures to a pair of apprentices, who come closer. Probably to be at Vytol's beck-and-call. "Healer's duties, Healer's duties," she greets in an aside to the arrivals. "Annik, it's your call, if you'd like? Or shall I introduce Vytol?"

Vytol takes the procured mug of juice from the apprentice who has finally brought it back for him and quickly takes a sip to wet his throught. He nods to Ayanne before whispering instructions to the two apprentices Ayanne called over.

Javinia tucks her legs up under her, careful of her skirt. "Well, I'sai did," she explains to M'teh. Her hazel gaze follows the rider's to R'var. She offers a hand, open and raised in greeting, but then her attention shifts back to the healers at hand.

R'var slips smoothly into the back, and sends Bauhaus a wink. M'teh receives a sharp salute, and quite a serious look that eventually gives way to his usual cocky grin. His eyes do not move to the healers just yet, lingering on Javinia.

Dysan hears I'sai's name mentioned in the crowd. He turns his head in recognition trying to place the voice.

Bauhaus says "Aye?" Bauhaus watches as the glance from Dysan, a lad from High Reaches or so it seemed, looked over in their direction. "You want something?"

Dysan says "No sir, Reaches Duties to Telgar. I'sai's bronze fathered our last clutch, sir."

Annik walks towards the front of the crowd. "Thank you for coming, everyone. The Healers have graciously agreed to give this first aid course as part of the festival, and I would like to thank them, as well." Here she nods towards the Healers, smiling brightly. "And now I will let Craftmaster Ayanne make further introductions," she says and steps aside.

Bauhaus nods lightly, and replied, "Telgar's duties to Reaches," in a driendly reply. "Ah, I see. I never would've known that," he said, shaking his head. "He is the Weyrlingmaster of our Weyr, if I am not mistaken."

Dysan grins and nods, turning his attention to the Healers. He wonders how they all manage to have such kind friendly eyes. Hmm...

M'teh tries, with a greater degree of subtelty in his volume, to reply to R'var: "No need to salute, y'know, we're not on duty." Attention returns to the presentation at hand.

Javinia listens to the exchange between Bauhaus and Dysan with a curious interest, but a polite and quiet one. She folds her hands in her lap, the introductions re-claiming her attention.

Ayanne gestures with her cane to the apprentices, an unneccesary gesture as they're already heading to their tasks of arranging jars and pots. That done, the Healer Craftmaster nods appreciatively for Annik's beginning. "Thank you, Craftmaster, for your hospitality, and Healer's duties to the Smithcraft and all Weyrs, Holds, and Halls we have with us. While we'd love to be present and available at all times, unfortunately accidents have a habit of occurring at unplanned times, when Healers aren't around. We're here today to tell you how best to assist, and what to do, in the event of an accident. Journeyman Vytol is one of the Hall's most able Healers, and has offered to do this course for you. Vytol, the floor's yours."

Bauhaus hushed himself as the presentation began. Letting his gaze drift towards the healers, he perked his ears, making sure to listen as well as he can. This would prove quite useful where he lives..

R'var's eyes budge at last from Javinia, flicked sideways just a moment to M'teh. He smiles, and jumps up his blond brows. An idea seems to occur to him as he studies his wingleader in a more involved fashion, and then, just as suddenly as he had glanced over, he's looking away. The healers capture his attention.

Vytol waits for Ayanne's introduction then makes his way to the front of the group. "Thank you Craftmaster Ayanne, Craftmaster Annik. As Master Ayanne mentioned, we can not always be there when something happens. It would be nice if we could but accidents rarely happen at planned times." He grins, "And because of this everyone should know some basics about how to handle a situation and what to do in case of an injury." He looks out at the gathered folks. "How many of you out there have been stung, or bitten by something, or fallen and skinned your knee or cut yourself?"

Dysan raises his hand, "A thief from Bitra cut my leg trying to escape once.. does that count?" His tone is serious.

Of course, Bauhaus raised his hand. "I have, sir. At Keroon, it was easy to fall into some kind of situation or another in the stables, or at the fields.. if you didn't mind me saying," he said, hoping his interjection was welcome.

Annik immediately raises her hand in answer to Vytol's question.

Ramya raises her hand, but she doesn't say anything.

M'teh raises his hand as well. "I stab myself a lot when sewing straps, nevermind all the other times I get hit by someone's firestone sack during drills, or something else."

Javinia lifts her hand, though she leans toward Bauhaus, voice low among the other mumblings and answers in the tent. "You know Ys, right? A tunnlesnake bit her. She has the scare to prove it." Her nose wrinkles up at the thought, and she pulls away from Bauhaus, eyes scanning the other upraised hands.

"Yashira almost cut off my head once." R'var's admission is cool, ordinary, as if he were confessing to a hangnail.

Bauhaus winces. "Aye.. that sounds horrible," he whispers in return to Javinia. "Was Ys from Keroon, also?"

Ayanne takes a seat on a chair - lowering herself to cusions might be somewhat difficult. As various situations are mentioned, the woman nods, and notes, "I sprained an ankle in the jungles of Ista as an apprentice, then had quite a runner accident while a Journeyman." The cane is lifted in evidence of the latter. "Might've not needed this, had there been anyone around to assist me."

Vytol grins, "I kind of figured most if not all of you have at some point in time, and yes that counts. I am here to help you deal with those and other injuries, in the case that a healer is not around." he nods to the apprentices indicating that they should pass out the two small jars to each of those gathered. "What the apprentices are handing out are probably the two most commonly used herbs and concoctions we use at the hall. It is always a good idea to know where some is in case you will need it. I bet many of out there probably will recognize the first one from its smell. It is numbweed. The second is called redwort. Now, I don't want you to open them yet. First thing I want to go over is what to do if you find yourself or someone else injured. Can anyone out there tell me what you should do first?"

M'teh appears to be counting on his fingers. "U'nar... that greenrider... U'nar again... some passing weyrbrat... U'nar..." He seems to now have run out of fingers.

Bauhaus says "I'd probably run around, panicking because I have no idea what to do, until I can get somebody's attention"

After admitting that, Bauhaus gives an embarrassed look around the room.

Dysan raises his hand again, this time waiting more politely.

Annik takes a seat at the fringes, smiling at the apprentice who hands her the two jars.

The apprentices begin carrying their trays of small jars around, ensuring that everyone has one of each. This takes a little while, given that they're trying to not be in anyone's view, trying to not trip over legs and become first-aid examples, and given the number of people.

Javinia shakes her head. "Lemos," she tells Bauhaus. Turning at the sound of R'var's voice, she looks back at R'var over one shoulder. Her dark brows rise, but, in truth, she doesn't seem surprised. She turns back to watch the apprentices fan out among the crowd.

Vytol grins at Bauhaus, "That is an example of what you do not want to do, and hopefully after this class you will not feel that way." he point to Dysan, "yes you, what do you think you should do?"

"Aye," he whispers back to his friend.

M'teh receives his two jars, and muses to no-one in particular, "Ah, yes, like the dragonhealing. 'Cept a bit less of th' numbweed."

Dysan blushes a bit, "I would call for a healer first. I mean, if you try and help and it's not enough, you're going to need them... eventually."

Bauhaus gives a shy nod in Vytol's direction. And it was true to, he had done that in Keroon. He looked at the two jars, already smelling the numbweed wofting from his container. Though he was used to the smell of stinky herdbeasts and manure, he never was used to the smell of numbweed, which was evident as he crinkled his nose.

Ramya takes the two jars. She watches the Apprentices hand more out to folks sitting near her then she takes a smell of the numbweed and her eyes water.

Smith Meadow> Taylin has arrived.

Ayanne grins a little at Bauhaus' answer, and more broadly at Vytol's response. The apprentice that offers her the two jars is shooed away, with the admonishment, "Faranth, I know what numbweed and redwort are!"

Taylin pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Taylin has arrived.

Javinia dimples up at the healer apprentice as she takes her two jars. But her attention is for Dysan, and then, Vytol. She listens, head cocked with interest.

Vytol nods, "If a healer is available, and the situation warrents one yes. That would be a good thing. However if one is not around or one isn't needed, the first thing you should do is remain calm. Next thing you will want to do is make sure that the area around the injured is safe and that no one else, including yourself is in danger. If it really is an emergency you should make sure to get a healer so I will not cover anything like that, but you should still remain calm. What I do want to cover is how to handle basic cuts, scrapes, minor burns, acid burns, general stuff like that." he looks about to make sure he hasn't lost anyone. "Now I would like you all to open the first jar labeled redwort. Can anyone tell me what it is used for? Just blurt it out, no need to raise your hands."

Bauhaus opens the redwort, and enters deep into his mind. He remembers using redwort on some injured animals. He thinks he knows, and shouts "It's used for sterilization!"

R'var is all too pleased to take small jars from the apprentices. He clinks them together lightly, and then watches.

Vytol nods, "Correct, that is one of its uses, does anyone know another?"

M'teh opens his jar, stares at its contents briefly, then suggests, "Doesn't it keep y'hands from getting numb?"

If not for his politeness, Bauhaus would have bounded out of his seat, and done a victory dance. But he kept still..

Annik opens her jar of redwort and looks at it briefly before returning her attention to Vytol.

Dysan knows numbweed, not redwort. He listens carefully.

Vytol smiles and points to the rider, "Very good. That is its other use. Redwort is used for both sterilizing and preventing infection as well as for its ability to counter act the effects of the numbweed in your other jar. We need to use it because we don't want our hands to become numb when working with them on a patient or even ourselves. Now lets talk about its first property, as a sterilizer. Any time you get a cut or scrape you should use a little redwort after flushing the cut with clean water to remove any dirt. The redwort will help prevent infection. Now lets say the cut is pretty deep, not deep enough to require sutures, but bleeding pretty bad, what should you do?"

Bauhaus says "Umm.. do you turn to use of bandages, as well?" It seemed that he was taking a complete guess there, giving a shrug and saying silently "Oh dear, I've probably just saying"

Vytol nods, "Anyone else?"

Annik arches her eyebrows slightly as she listens to the information. To answer the latest question, she offers, "Put pressure on it to stop the bleeding."

Dysan pipes up, "Press on it?", he remembers what Mohria did when he was cut.

M'teh muses briefly, again to no-one in particular, "'s from the dragonhealing, y'know." He seems baffled by the next question, however.

Ceryca pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Ceryca has arrived.

Vytol nods to those who answered, "Yes, you can apply pressure. You can also, if the cut does not require sutures use a little of the numbweed. Numbweed also helps to stop the bleeding. Both of these methods can be used to stop the bleeding, and once the bleeding has been stopped then you can apply the redowrt to prevent infection. Anyone have any questions on minor cuts or scrapes, or should we move on to burns?

Vytol grins, "Okay, why don't we try out the numbweed and redwort here real quick before we move on. Go ahead and open the jar labeled numbeed and be carefull not to spill any on you. Now go ahead and dip a finger into the numbweed. Just the tip now, not a whole lot, a little goes a long way. You should start to feel the tip of your finger going completely numb. Everyone feeling that?"

Annik perks up at the mention of burns. "Ooh, do burns. We deal with a lot of those here, what with the forges, glass ovens, and explosives."

M'teh opens up the jar of numbweed and dips his finger in, as per request. He starts shaking his finger around after a short time, and tapping it against his other fingers.

Vytol nods and grins at the Craftmaster, "I bet you do. I will make sure to cover those a little more in depth for you all then."

Dysan smiles, going over what was just said to himself quietly. He waits to see if Vytol is indeed going to move on, kicking his feet a little in his chair while he sits. He opens his numbweed, not knowing why he would have to repeat an experiment every child on Pern has done at least once. He sticks his finger in the jar just the same, yep.. still the same old numbweed. He grins.

Bauhaus nods, and sticks the tip of his finger into the numbweed. However, something happens, and he spills some numbweed in his lap. "AIEEE!" he shouts in suprise.

Vytol chuckles, "Works doesn't it? Now dip another finger into the redwort and then that same finger into the numbweed and see the difference. Does your finger get numb?"

Bauhaus does what Vytol says, and shakes his head. "No but umm.. I've had a little.. accident over here," he says, and you could tell he was just overly embarrassed.

M'teh leaps up at the scream, luckily managing to hold on to his own numbweed. He looks wildly around the room, with mutters of, "What? Eh?"

Annik dips her finger into her numbweed, frowning at the numbing sensation. She dips the next finger into the redwort, then into the numbweed, and smiles at the result.

Ceryca slips in the back and stops, looking around the tent at the crowd, her blue eyes a little wide.

Vytol smiles, "And it shouldn't get numb. As we said, the redowrt counters the effects of the numbweed making it safe to handle and apply without getting yourself all numbed up." He looks at the lad and nods, "It will wear off shortly, that why you need to be carefull with it." He motions an apprentice to go over and make sure he is ok. "Alright now moving on to burns."

Dysan dips his second finger into the redwort, then nuumbweed. He looks puzzzled. Not the same. He pulls his finger out and tests it with a fingernail from his other hand. "Wow..."

Javinia opens up her jar of numbweed, nose wrinkling, and peeks into. She looks to Bauhaus, M'teh, then back to Bauhaus, startled. "What in the-- Oh, Bauhaus."

Bauhaus gives a shaky nod. He was more worried about his dignity than if his trouser area would be alright. Then the topic of burns comes up, so he perks up to listen to this part of the lecture. "Don't say anything.." he hisses in a silent warning to Jav.

Taria pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Taria has arrived.

Annik smiles as she sees Taria and quietly waves her over.

M'teh slowly sits down, and when he's finished, and tries out the redwort - numbweed combination rather over-carefully. He nods silently to himself.

Javinia merely shakes her head at Bauhaus, gaze dropping back to her own two jars of herbs. She tests the numbweed against the redwort, waits, and looks up with a little grin of delight.

Taria was trying to listen on in quietly, but seeing as her CM has spotted her she wanders on over. "Asterran was held up Master Annik." she whispers, .

Annik indicates the two jars in her hands. She mutters to Taria, "We went over the basics of numbweed and redwort. He says he's going over burns next, which I think ought to interesting for us."

Bauhaus mutters to R'var, "This would... especially if someone... a... when... frisky... them."

Vytol nods, "Now burns result from a number of causes. Dry heat, agenothree, and friction. Scalds are a result of wet heat like hot liquids and vapors. Burns can also be produced by extreme cold and by the sun's rays. There are a number of factors to consider when treating a burn. For example, what caused it the depth of the burn and how much of the skin is affected. Burns also carry a serious risk of infection, and the larger and deeper the burn, the greater the risk. Now the first type of burn is a superficial burn. These involve only the outer layer of skin and are characterized by redness, swelling and tenderness. Classic examples are mild sunburn, or a scald produced by a hot mug of klah. Superficial burns usually heal well if prompt aid is given. Applying cool water for at least ten minutes is the best treatment for these burns. Remove any clothing that might constrict if swelling occurs and apply a cooling solution made from cucumber or witch hazel, followed by numbweed. You will also want to use aloe or dragon's tongue and apply it regularly as the skin heals to keep it moist. This sort of burn most often results in a peeling of the top layer of skin and is no cause for alarm, this is normal." As he finishes up an apprentice approaches him in a slight panic and he pauses. "Yes of course." He looks out to Master Ayanne. "CraftMaster, it seems that my serves have been requested. Can you finish up for me?"

Vytol pushes aside a bit of cloth and steps out of the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Vytol has left.

Javinia catches some of Bauhaus's comment to R'var, and she turns, hazel gaze flickering between the two, mouth caught up in a small frown. She wipes her fingertips on the grass of the tent floor, one still red with redwort, only glancing up as the healer speaking excuses himself.

Ayanne rises from her seat at the apprentice's interruption, then nods, getting her cane under her. "Of course, Vytol. Now, a quick re-cap. Things like a small amount of spilled klah, or brief contact with a hot surface, can cause superficial burns. You've probably all gotten a small blister or red spot from something like that, right? Well, first off, get the burned area under water, that helps lots. Then, aloe and witchhazel if you've got them, or just plain numbweed if you don't, will help it. But other accidents might cause deeper, more severe burns. Any thoughts on what a first-aider might do in that case?"

Annik furrows her brow thoughtfully as she thinks about the question.

Ayanne looks around, and further prompts. "Let's say someone upturns a whole pot of boiling water on their legs and feet. You're there, watching - what do you do?"

Javinia hazards, "Cold water? And Numbweed? For the pain?" Her voice sounds lame, as if she's aware she's only repeating the healer. She looks around the tent for other answers.

Bauhaus winces at the given scenario. He thinks for a moment, before saying, "Should we call a healer?"

Dysan shakes his head. "I've never gotten any burn worse than the first kind you mentioned. I'm with her." He points to Javinia, accepting her answer.

Annik guesses, "Add numbweed and cover the burned area with bandages soaked in cold water?"

"You're both right," Ayanne tells the Telgari candidates quickly. "First thing you should do is yell for a healer, or send someone to get one. If there's someone else there, point to them, and tell them 'Go get the Healer!'" She does just this, using her cane to point at Taria in demonstration. Nods are given for the other answers. "Then, get cold water onto the burned site - if you don't have a bucket appropriately sized, use bandages. Numbweed can be used, too. No matter what, the accident victim in this case should see a Healer. Now, something you should know, if the burn might just be worse than that, don't apply numbweed. Just use cold water - the oils can interfere with healing."

"I have a question," blurts Bauhaus. He stands, looking in Ayanne's direction. "If I am not mistaken, you have to boil numbweed while processing it. What if you spill this numbweed on yourself?"

Javinia shoots Dysan a grateful grin, brightening further at Ayanne's words, though the last of the instructions gives her pause. "Oh, -no- numbweed then," she repeats, for her own benefit. "Of course."

Taria nods at her CM's quiet explanation, and thanks, jumping as she's pointed out as an example and flushing a little. . She was listening, honest.

R'var seems to stare into space for some long moments. With one free hand, he counts out unspoken numbers to a rhythm. A smile eventually surfaces on his face, and he returns to the demonstration of a sudden, and he watches intently.

Ayanne suppresses a grin, returning her cane to supporting herself. "Good question, and believe me, it's happened. In that case, use cold water, and lots of it. Call a healer - the hot oils will coat the skin, and probably numb it, but it'll still cause a burn. Any other questions, before we move on?"

Javinia shakes her head, even as she looks around the tent for others who might.

Annik nods slowly as she listens, mentally taking note of the information. "What about acid burns?" she asks.

Ceryca shifts her weight from one foot to the other, her eyes turning to regard Annik at his question.

Taria raises a hand to ask exactly the same thing, and lowers it again quickly. "Well, it's a valid question." she notes in defense of Annik.

Ayanne ahs, nodding at Annik's question. "A very valid question," she notes in support of Taria. "Acids, such as agenothree, can cause some nasty burns. Even some mild burns, that turn up sore and blistered the next day, if someone doesn't realize they've splashed themselves. Most importantly, immediately after an accident involving acid, flush the area with lots and lots of water. We're talking bucketsfull, to dilute the acid and wash it away. The same as you'd want someone burning themselves on a hot poker to stop touching the poker, you want the acid off the skin. In the case of acid in eyes, hold the eyes open and pour lots of water over them. If it's eyes, get a healer immediately. If it's skin, assess how bad the burn might be - if it's just a little splash that was treated immediately, it should heal alright on its own. Otherwise, see a healer. Does that answer your question?"

Annik nods gratefully. "Yes, thanks."

Taria ums softly. "What if the acid is the type that reacts more strongly with water ma'am?" she asks respectfully, putting the chemistry lectures she's been bombarded with to work.

Taria adds. "I mean is it the same deal, diluting?"

R'var listens with helplessly morbid fascination as Ayanne speaks of acid. He licks an eyetooth, and hears out the newest question.

Ayanne thinks about this for a moment, then responds. "You have, unfortunately, lots of water in your skin that it will react with, causing worse burns. I'd still recommend diluting the acid as quickly and as much as possible. However, there are other chemicals that smiths work with, that may injure you. If it's an oil based chemical, you'd want to use either a soap -- not soapsand, that would abrade the skin, one of the more expensive soaps -- or another substance that will dissolve the harmfull chemical but not your skin. If you work with chemicals like that, be sure you ask a Healer how best to deal with them, specifically."

Dysan says "I thought water helped everything. I didn't know you could make an acid burn worse with water"

Annik smiles at Taria's question, listening carefully to Ayanne's answer.

Yselle pushes aside a bit of cloth and enters the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Yselle has arrived.

Bauhaus whistles to Yselle as she walks into the tent, motioning her to come over to where he and the other Telgarians sat. He looks at Ayenne, and apologizes for whistling. Either way, he has all of this useful information stored in his mind, now

Ceryca shudders, folding her arms over her dress, her nose wrinkling.

Ayanne looks towards Annik, and suggests, "If you haven't already, you might wish to consider working with one of our burn specialist healers, and have near some of the nastier chemicals a note specifying how to treat injuries involving them?" Bauhaus' whistle earns him a raised-eyebrow glance, and snickers from the various apprentices around, but nothing further. From the apprentice's reaction, it might be assumed that in their classes, there might be consequences. "Now. We've heard of cuts and scrapes, bleeding and burns. That's enough for now - if you're interested in becoming certified as a first aid attendant, please do speak with a Healer. Now. Perhaps you'd like to put what you've learned to use, test yourselves a bit?"

Dysan perks up, this could be interesting.

Bauhaus also seems to perk up, his eyes bright in their color. "Oh, yes," he says.

Yselle enters on the arm of a bluerider. This bluerider... is not T'van. Despite that, he's got an arm around her waist, and they're talking in a low tone together. He says something, she laughs, but looks up at the whistle. "Oh, over here," she says. They both make their way over, both of them hush as they notice the lecturer.

Annik nods at Ayanne. "Yes, we drill our apprentices in the safety procedures, but it never hurts to have a Healer close by."

Javinia combs her fingers through the grass, gaze on the cool green, though a cant of her head suggests she's listening. Bauhaus's whistle calls her to, and she looks up, brightening on the instant. She doesn't call out, but she beams up at Yselle and beckons her and the blue rider over to where she and Bauhaus sit on cushions. A glance back for Ayanne, and she says, ever polite, "Yes, ma'am."

Taria nods gratefully for the confirmation to her question. Then a dart across at Annik, it sounds like a good idea to ask for permission to go do.

"Alright, then," Ayanne says, smiling at the response, and nodding a greeting to the Telgari pair. "Perhaps I could have three volunteers? One to be a 'victim', the others to be witnesses who might help?" Annik's answer earns a relieved nod. "That's good to hear. And if we've more than three volunteers, we could do a couple of examples."

Bauhaus raises his hand to volunteer..

Dysan does also.

Ceryca starts to raise her own hand, then frowns, glancing around and lowering it.

R'var leans, standing in the back, so that he can see. When his clutchmate and Yselle join and enter into the tent, his eyes follow them with some interest.

Ayanne uses her cane to point at Bauhaus, then Dysan. "That's two - come on up here, don't be shy. Anyone else?" Ceryca's given an inquisitive glance, then the rest of the tent.

Yselle murmurs "I could only be the victim, since I missed the whole thing," she waves at Javinia, hissing "Hey". The bluerider grins at Javinia too. His only acknowledgement of R'var is a steady frown.

Bauhaus smiles, and gets up. He blinks.. the feeling in his trouser area was coming back with a squirmy, wormy feeling, so it looks kinda funny as he walks up to the stage.

Ceryca shakes her head. "Missed the beginning," she mumurs, probably not loud enough to be heard in the tent.

Dysan stands, stretching a bit as he's been sitting too long. He moves to the front of the room.

Ayanne shrugs, and beckons to Ceryca. "Then come on up, they'll attend to you? You'll just have to act as though you've been hurt, and I'll tell you how."

Annik sits back and watches with interest.

Ceryca nods and moves forward. "Allright, then," she agrees.

Javinia returns the grin of the blue rider at Yselle's side. That turns to something darker when she glances from the candidate to the other blue rider, the one leaning at the back. Not affording R'var more than a brief look, she turns back to the demonstration, an encouraging smile for Bauhaus.

Ayanne beckons to an apprentice who comes forward with a small jar of red liquid, that's not looking like redwort. "Alright, then," Ayanne tells the first two. "Cover your eyes, and we'll set the scene up." Sheilding view with her body from them, she indicates to Ceryca to roll up a sleeve, and cup her other hand.

Bauhaus puts one hand over his eyes, giving a small whistle as he waits.

Ceryca listens closely, shooting Bauhaus an odd look at that whistle. Nonetheless, she pushes her sleeve up and holds out her other hand, cupping it as she watches Ayanne.

R'var lifts his head as he watches Bauhaus up before everyone. He cups a hand to his mouth and makes a silent 'woooo!' face.

Dysan turns his back and covers his eyes also. He does glance back once unable to resist the urge to look but then, he behaves himself.

Bauhaus gives R'var a silent chuckle.

The apprentice hands Ayanne the red-liquid pot, and a small brush, which the Craftmaster uses quickly to draw a blood-red line on Ceryca's forearm. A knife is dipped in the red, then dropped on the ground nearby. "Now, lean forward so this doesn't get on your nice gown," Ayanne advises, pouring a good glob of red so it drips down Ceryca's arm, and globs into the cupped hand. "Get what happened? When you're ready, yell or scream, and these two can go to work."

Yselle whispers "What are they demonstrating?" to Javinia. S'vyn is watching the healers and victims. His arm is still loosely around Yselle's waist. The candidate giggles. "This looks like the sort of thing Tel would like. It's a good thing you left him at home, Sav." To Javinia "Can't you just see Tel hamming this up?"

Javinia doesn't cover her eyes. In fact, her chin is lifted high, neck stretched, so that she can see up front. "I don't know--yet," she admits with some disappointment to Yselle. The mention of Tel only brings a wrinkle to her nose and a feeling "Feh!"

Dysan waits, back turned, although the urge to turn around is much stronger now.

Ceryca's lips twitch as she watches the CraftMaster's work closely. She casts a quick look at the audience, then nods, leaning forward as directed. She takes a deep breath and then shrieks.

Bauhaus's eyes snap wide open, and he nearly jumps 2 feet into the air, looking around like a panicked wherry. His eyes land on Ceryca, and he rushes over. "Aieee!" he shouts, and gingerly he takes her arm, and inspects the 'wound'. He sees the knife on the floor next to her. "Can you tell me what happened?" he asks in a calm voice.

Ayanne steps back as Ceryca shrieks, making sure she's out of the way. "Alright, you two," she says needlessly. "Go to it!"

Dysan turns at the sound, he looks surprised, forgetting for a moment that this is a demonstration. The blood does the rest, Dysan takes several seconds to convince himself this isn't real. Then he joins Bauhaus, trying to be just as calm.

Bauhaus says "You," he turns to the lad from High Reaches. "Get me some redwort. It appears the girl's been slashed.."

Ayanne puts on the pressure, and says, "Drip. Drip. Drip - she's bleeding..."

Yselle giggles at the shrieking. "She's very good. Bauhaus is doing a great job, don't you think?"

Dysan grins, "You think?" He does retrieve the redwort, testing it with his finger first then applying some to his own hands. He was going to give it to Bauhaus but instead applies some to the patient, given the urgency.

Javinia's eyes go wide with the shriek, and she sits up on her knees to see better. "Ooh. Look!" she tells Yselle. "There's a knife." The glops of red bring a laugh, and she nods. "Keeping his head well enough."

Dysan sets down the jar for Bauhaus to use also.

Annik grins as she watches the demonstration.

Bauhaus winces, definately feeling the pressure upon him. Pressure.. that reminds him! He takes a rag, and as the redwort is done being applied, he takes some redwort, sterilizing his own hands. He takes some numbweed, and lightly slathers it on the 'wound'. He then takes a rag, and wraps it tightly about her arm..

Ayanne motions to Ceryca discretly, perhaps hoping that the two demo-first-aiders don't see. She brings a hand up to her forhead, and mock-swoons.

Dysan tilts his head, letting Bauhaus work. He squeezes one of Ceryca's fingers and watches for the blood to return. "Don't wrap too tight."

Ceryca takes a breath and glances towards Ayanne a moment, then, following the direction, sways, bringing the 'uninjured' hand up to her forehead, marking it with a bit of the red 'blood'.

Bauhaus says "I shan't," he says as he finishes wrapping it about the arm. Though, he turns back to ask Dysan "Can you still feel the blood pumping down there?"

Yselle leans forward, delight evident on her face. "This is fun," she hisses to Javinia. "I don't know how I'd go with all that screaming though." S'vyn's gaze wanders, eventually turning to R'var who he glares at distractedly.

Dysan nods, "Pink fingers."

Bauhaus says "Good, good.."

Dysan looks, and begins to help Ceryca off her feet before she falls down. "Here, lie down..", the lad is small, so he can't really help all that much, but its the thought that counts.

Bauhaus looks around, and brings a pitcher of water. "Here, drink this," he says, and poured a glass of water. "Can you drink this?" he asks the girl.

"Oh, -now- what's happening?" Javinia's chhin lifts higher still, hands flat on her upper thighs. "Did she faint?" she asks Yselle, sinking back onto her heels--amusement there in her voice.

R'var, without budging his dark eyes from the demonstration, puckers his lips slowly to blow S'vyn an irritating kiss. He seems to have sensed his clutchmate's glare on him.

Ceryca lets Dysan help her down, though she does do most of the laying down herself. At Bauhaus' question, she darts a look towards Ayanne for direction.

Ayanne offers applause, nodding her head to Ceryca. "Fantastic, and well done. I believe that you've got the general idea. Now, I'd hate to run over-time, so let's leave it at this, get our victim cleaned up, and let you-all out with your new skills. Again, if you'd like proper training in all of first aid, just let a Healer know. And stock up on first aid kits, while you're here!"

Bauhaus nods, and begins to beam at his 'success'. He gets up, and bows to Ayanne, saying "Thanks for letting me help demonstrate these newfound abilities."

Dysan lets out a long breath, glad that's over. Now he can go back to just being plain Dysan. He gets to his feet also, blushing.

Javinia, cheeks round, claps out her enthusiasm with the rest of the tent. "Good job, Bauhaus!"

Annik applauds and stands. "Thanks again to the Healers for doing this, and thanks to you all for coming. There will be a short break, and then we will be starting a knife-throwing contest out in the meadow. And you can all use your newfound knowledge in case there are any accidents," she says with a grin.

S'vyn's fists clench. He /glares/ at R'var and looks away. He adjusts his arm around Yselle, pulling her a little closer in a companionable fashion. She whistles at the stage. "GO Bauhaus!"

Bauhaus now turns a bit red, putting one hand behind his head and giving a light chuckle to his fellow Telgarians. "Thanks all.."

R'var applauds the healers and their demonstrators-- he sticks two fingers in the corners of his mouth to whistle. One may note it is S'vyn he is looking at while he whistles. Take that.

Ceryca shakes her head and sits up again. "That was... fun," she notes, holding her hands out to keep from smearing any of the dye on her dress as she has on her forehead.

Javinia gets up from her cushion, smoothing and twitching at her skirt. She tugs at the hem of her tunic and sweater, putting all to rights, and then grins up at Yselle and S'vyn. "Do you want to take a look around? Bauhaus and I never had a chance before the demonstration."

Dysan pushes aside a bit of cloth and steps out of the Healer Hall Gather Tent.

Dysan has left.

You push aside a bit of cloth and step out of the Healer Hall Gather Tent.
