The 2003 Team

The 2003 team was our largest team to date. There were seven members: Kimberley (Kimmi) Bianchi, Victor DelRosario, Elizabeth Elias (sister of previous team member Karla Elias), Martha Hernandez, Mohammed Khan, Valentina Ortega, and Jessica Ike (our first junior to be a member). The larger number of students allowed us to spread the work out and allow students more time for their DECA projects.

This team took part in the following events:

a.) The 2002 Veterans Day Parade. This was the regional parade and took place in San Leandro, California. We were also able to meet with one of our most prominent supporters: the Disabled America Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 7 of Oakland, California.

b.) The Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge Award Dinner. This program was the recipient of the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge's 2002 George Washington Honor Medal for Excellence. The 2003 team was responsible for the planning, promotion and hosting of the awards celebration. The celebration was held at the City of San Leandro Marina Community Center. Guests included state, county and local officials, members of the military, San Lorenzo Unified School District officials and employees, staff members of San Lorenzo High School, and past members of the program. Maxine Preston represented the foundation. Speakers included past and present members of the program: Jessica Ike, Lily Marques (from our first team), Carmen Gonzalez, and Valentina Ortega. Again, our good friends from the Encinal High School Junior ROTC Corps of Cadets provided the color guard. The entertainment was provided by the San Lorenzo High School Choir who performed a rocking medley of Beatle's hits.
