POETRY by Amani Parsons

THE PRISONER

Every day is like the other
Behind the cold stone wall
He keeps thinking nothing is forever
Except those memories he can recall

In his sleep at night
He sees those eyes full of fear
This nightmare will never fade
Escape is nowhere near

This loneliness and ignorance
Is just the price he has to pay
His story told, there will be
Nothing more to say

Alone in the cell
He feels life passing by
Torn by bitterness and pain
This soul will slowly die

EMPTY LIES

Can I hide my tears
behind hollow laughter
If my smile doesn't
reach my eyes?
Will you know
it's just a mask
Or do I have to
live on empty lies?
=================================

REBIRTH

Iron claws are killing
everything alive in the nature
But hope remains
and life will be reborn
When Spring drives
the Winter into hiding

=================================

I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN

I should have known
by the tone in your voice
there was something
you did not let me see

I should have known
by your blocked emotions
for you, happiness
was never meant to be

I should have known
by your horrible actions
there was something
behind them all

I should have known
by the strength of your heart
though tormented by memories
you would still be standing tall
=================================

BACK TO REALITY

As I see the world in black
Feeling like I'm gonna suffocate
The pain inside is taking control
But you tell me to be strong
You walk with me
The steps back to reality

=================================

TRUTHS

It is always a mystery
what is really on your mind
Bitter pain holds them captive
emotions of every kind

Never really loved, you couldn't understand
her silent words so warm and nice
Though meant sincerely, you couldn't see
the truth in her eyes

Your need for revenge breeds only hate
and makes people's hearts turn cold
But it can never heal
your wounded, scarred soul

The strongest power of them all
possessed by the one who holds you dear
When you will know, she will be
always there to hold you near
