Smokey is registered with the AKC and with American Field's Field Dog Stud Book. He has sired numerous litters by both field trial and personal hunting-type bitches. All his get seem to share his cooperative, team-player personality and his bird ability. His kids have been successful both in the grouse woods and the competitive field setting.
Smokey was named the Gordon Setter Club of America's Gun Dog of the Year in 2000, 2001, and 2003 (a title awarded annually to the gun dog with the highest point total determined by dogs defeated). He was named the Ohio Bird Dog Association's Gun Dog of the Year and Amateur Gun Dog of the Year several times between 1998 and 2001. Smokey won the Tri- Setter Classic, a field championship open only to Gordon, Irish, and English Setters, in 2000, 2001, and 2002. The Classic was discontinued after the 2002 competition.
Smokey captured the title of National Field Champion at the Gordon Setter Club of America's 2003 National Field Trial.
This fine Gordon Setter is owned by Sandra Basham Chapman and stands at stud in Brunswick, Ohio.
