| Dorothy Louise Black, daughter of James Luther and Eva Cornelia (Thompson) Rhyne, was born April 12, 1927 at Madison, Kansas. Her death occured November 28, 2001 at Metroplex Hospital, Killeen, Texas. Her age was 74 years, 7 months, 16 days.
Dorothy ived her early life at Madison, Kansas moving to Gorham, Kansas in 1938 where she attended school, graduating from Gorham High School. On September 3, 1946 she was married to Tom W Black at Russell, Kansas and this union was blessed with five children; Jim, Tom, Robert, Lori and Monty. She made the family home in the Hays and Russell area for many years. She devoted her life to her family, her children, and in later years her grandchildren. After the death of her husband Tom on July 5, 1979 she continued to live and work in Hays. She worked at the Travenol Plant for a number of years, then for several years she worked at the Hays School District Office, moving back to Russell to live in 1993. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries, both of Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, sister Nita Bedwell, and brother Francis "Punk" Rhyne. Survivors are her children; Jim Black and wife Shirley and Tom Black and Wife Joan all of Bakersfield, CA, Robert Black and wife Vicki of Stillwater, OK, Lori Hodges and husband Jeff of Killeen, TX, and Monty Black and wife Jerri of Lenexa, KS, brother Ralph "Red" Rhyne of Augusta, KS, sister Doris Dean of Greenland, AR, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren , a number of other relatives and a host of friends. |
