used to be a sweet boy
holding so tightly
to Daddy's hand
but that was all...
in some distant land
blazer and tie
and a big bright healthy smile...
used to make all
Of our trials worthwhile
used to be a sweet boy
and I'm not to blame...
but something went wrong,
something went wrong...
and I know
I'm not to blame
something went wrong...
can't be to blame...
ah...
I love analyzing song lyrics and I've been working on some of Moz's for my website this is what I see:
first verse - when you're young, essentially you're a naive angel - untainted. you do what your parents tell you to do, dress up in your Sunday clothes, etc. and all the while you're led by the hand. what is the "distant land" he's talking about? maybe because doing all these things that were not things that made him happy, though doing these things made his PARENTS happy...it was as if he were on a different planet, because that person who was dressed up in blazer and tie wasn't really "him." Everything "worthwhile" probably means, he didn't get reprimanded if he just kept in line and did what he was told.
second verse - somewhere along the line, he probably learned or "saw" that things were not as neat and ordered as his father or parents made him believe, with dressing up and making sure his tie was straight, etc. "something went wrong" - er...is this in reference to his sexuality? or the realization that what his parents had "in store" for him really wasn't right?
this is somewhat parallel to "I Have Forgiven Jesus" - yes?
