"Jesus, Model of Faith, Model of Full Humanity” web assignment.
I) Each student will read the Gospel of Luke, chapters 3 to the end. He will read other New Testament writings about Jesus and will read and mark two handouts. The goal of this is to find the human Jesus, the person of Jesus before all the Theology came into play. What he did believe? What did he do? Why were so many attracted to him? Why did they want to keep his memory alive and why did they want to follow him? What can we learn about faith? What do we learn, from his words and from his actions, about what it life is all about and how it should shuld be lived?
The web assignment writing must be backed up by evidence from the reading, from the Jesus’ words and from his actions.
II) Know these key teachings of Jesus'
A good start to this assignment would be a set of notes that summarize what Jesus shows us in his life and teachings about God, about the meaning of life, about reason, about morality, and about what it means to be human.
III) Read “The Jews News” (from some of my students last year) and O’Malley’s “Understanding Jesus.”
IV) Watch video "Jesus, Portrait of a Radical"
All of the above were to be read and reflected upon. Instead of a test you've been assigned an essay. Be clear that you have learned from the above. Cite the sources in some way. These are about the best in our limited time I can offer.
If these do not show the human Jesus, please offer suggestions about what should be included in my next class.
V) 10 point web page entitled “The Human Jesus” You will be able to add ideas from the New Testament (especailly the Gospel we read), from O’Malley, from the video, from the Sermon in Matthew and from “The Jews News.” Your essay must show that these have been read and reflected upon. The assignment is to look at Jesus the human person, before all the Theology came about. You must have an image of Jesus on your web page. This should be an image that means something to you and that ilustrates to you the human Jesus. You can convey the human Jesus in the best you can on a web site. Be creative. Check with your teacher about ideas.
