Third Quarter
First Week January 16-19 (4 class days)
The traditional way in which morality is taught in cultures is through stories, myths, fables.
Self reflection: what I learned about right and wrong in childhood. 10 point assignment. Friday: R?M?s Intro in text.
Second Week January 22-26 (5 class days) Junior Retreat 23-24
Monday homework: R/M/S chapter one in text. RQ on text intro and ch 1 on Thursday. Use the review questions in the text and make sure you learn key terms. 10 point test on Friday.
Different moral systems: Buddhism, Confucianism, Islam, Virtue Ethics, Worksheet and assignment 10 points. Put on web site for others to use to study. There will be presentation on each moral system. Then will be a twenty 20 point test with this essay:

Two part essay.
So this should be at least two paragraphs:
A) When looking at the stories, myths and fables of cultures are their ideas about right and wrong, about what is good and bad in people and in life, basically similar or dissimilar? What about the morality of the world religions: similar or dissimilar? Give evidence for your answer (B) How do you explain this similarity or dissimilarity?
Remember that what most teachers want to see is a knowledge and understanding of what has been studied in the course. If you just parrot back what you have read or what we’ve said, that will usually get you a good grade, and that is important. . But we really would like to see is some real reflection and reasoning, even some good disagreement or a different view offered. At least this is true for me.
Later in the week we had student presentations about their moral system. This should be on your web site for all to be able to use. Follow worksheet guidelines and use study sheet. 20 point test on Tuesday.
Third Week: January 29 to February 2 (5 class days)
First two days of the week we continuted presentation about other moral systems. On Wednesday and Thursday we talked about "the law of human nature" in the Newsweek article "What is Virtue?" and C. S. Lewis' "The Law of Human Nature" and "Some Objections." Section Test on Friday.
Fourth Week: February 5-9 (4.5 class days) Thursday is a half day for Faculty Meetings
First part of the week students read and were tested on chapters 2 through 5 of the Hippler text. On Wednesday we began The Morality of Jesus with a prelection then homework assignment to read and fill out a worksheet outlining the Sermon, Mt 5-7. In class we watched the movie "Weapons of the Spirit."
February 12-14 (4 class days) Junior Retreat 13-14. Friday is off for Faculty Retreat. Tuesday was a snow day.
Monday we read and discussed the Sunday Gospel readings in light of C.S. Lewis's article "The Great Sin." Wednesday we watched "Weapons of the Spirit." Homework was O'Malley's "The Moral Practice of Jesus."
February 20-23 (4 class days) Monday off for Presidents Day. Friday a half day.
On Monday we read and mark chapters 6 and 7. Homework centereed aorund reading and marking the Catechism and filing out a worksheet. Then we had an open worksheet test on Monday, February 26.
February 26-March 2 (5 class days) Block Week.
Block Day was "the jury experience." Object, intent and circumstance made clear. We had a class to discuss the key ideas from Fr. Knapp's article. Two big assignments were due on Friday: Conscience as a Power and Process and One method of Moral Decision Making.
March 5-9 (5 class days)
On Monday, we watched Fr. Ralph Huse, SJ on the examen. Tuesday we had a section test and the rest of the week we watched a video Bonhoeffer: A Documentray by Martin Dobhler. Student homework was to prepare for the exam, using their past section tests and the review page to guide them.
March 12-13 (2 class days) Tuesday is a half day.

March 14-16 Third Quarter Exams.
March 19-23 Spring Break.
March 26-30
Returned exams and answered questions. Student question: List five choices/decisions made over Spring Break that have a moral implications. Read and mark chapters 8 & 9. RB Justice section pages 88-100, with a Justice test.
April 2-4 Easter Week
April 10-13 Library all week working on research project.
April 16-20 Block Week Diccussion of life asking the questions: the death of a classmates mom, Don Imus, Duke Lacrosse team. Chapter 12 & 13 in text. Video on medical ethics. Video: Dateline: Medical Ethics.
April 23-27 Earth Day/Stewardhip. Just War.
April 30 - May 4
